MAITLAND, Florida. – 60-year-old Diana May called 911 on Monday to report that her 18-year-old son had gone psychotic and had just stabbed her in the arm with a butter knife. While on the phone with 911, she informs them that they need to hurry as her son was looking for another weapon. At the urging of the dispatcher, Diana locks herself in the bathroom but can then be heard yelling “He’s here and he’s got a pitch fork. Don’t do it! Don’t do it! Don’t do it!” when Alex confronts her again with a two-pronged barbecue fork. The line then goes dead. Police arrive at the scene and find Alex in the bathroom. After refusing to drop the weapon, he is shot and killed by police.

It is not clear on why Officer Steve Mendez used a gun and not the Taser he is issued, but I am going to take a guess that when police respond to a home in which they were told an 18-year-old has gone psychotic, stabbed his mother before the line went dead – that they do not enter the home with Tasers drawn. Maitland police nor the Florida Department of Law Enforcement are answering this question yet, for obvious reasons. While a cop shooting a man who they found with a weapon who stabbed his mother is tragic, it isn’t beyond the realm of being a logical reaction in that situation. What isn’t, at least to me, is the actions of Alex. What in the hell happened?

No reports have came in showing Alex as having any history of violence, and even in the 911 call (you can listen to it here) the mother states she should have taken him to the hospital and this this is the “first” episode. I am not saying this is drug related, and I have not read anywhere in which that has been determined the cause, but it reminds me of a friend of mine whose brother had a nasty reaction to some pills he had been given by some friends. Don’t know what they were, or if they ever found out, but I remember him thinking we were talking about him (we were actually laughing at how fucked up he was) and coming into the kitchen with a rifle and kept pointing it at his older brother and shouting for us to quit talking about him behind his back.

Anyway, sucks for everyone involved with this one. Will remain curious as to the cause of the violent outburst as well as the statement in regards to the use of a non-lethal alternative.

EL DORADO HILLS, Calif. - Tylar Whit, 14, and her boyfriend Steven Colver, 19, eluding authorities today – both wanted for questioning in the stabbing death of Tylar’s 47-year-old mother, Joanne Witt. police found Joanne’s body in her home on Monday, and her daughter was missing. On Tuesday, arrest warrants for murder were issued for both Tylar and Steven who officials believe have dyed their hair black and are on the run in the Bay area. The possible motive for wanting to kill her mother? Joanne tried to file statutory rape charges against Steven Colver.

Police described the crime scene as “violent” and reports are leaking that a kitchen knife was the weapon. This based of a close friend of Colver telling KCRA 3 that Colver showed him a bloody knife he used to kill Witt. Neighbors state that this isn’t the first time police have been to the house, and another report has someone who knows the mother and daughter stating that Tylar could become scary when she was angry. Tylar Witt’s MySpace page has entries like:

“i feel like ur the only one who keeps me standing… and wen i brake down crying bcz im so lonely or i get in a fight with my mother… and theres no other comfort in the world i can turn to… no one i can hung and they tell me its alright… no one who sais they understand even if they dont… i dnt have any of those things… accept wen i get them from u… i need u in my life… everyday… to keep me from collapsing under tears… fainting from hypervenalating… or other things that will hurt others but set me free to dream forever…“

As for Colver, who goes by the name “Boston” (Myspace here), neighbors and friends are shocked and “astonished” that he is the boy accused of these crimes.  Paul Matloff is Colver’s next-door neighbor and stated that he seemed like a straight-up kid and “never given any indication of being any kind of trouble at all, to anybody.” Brooke Mercer, a friend of Colver’s who worked with him at a restaurant, stated “”Boston is not to blame here – there is something else in the works.” Ahem.

Officers have searched a Holiday Inn room in connection with the pair and have informed the public that they are considered armed and dangerous. A friend of Colver (I don’t know if it is the same one who got shown the knife) said Colver may surrender to police. Ah, young, spoiled, ignorant love. Colver, looking at Tylar’s pics – in a non-pedo way, mind you – she is a cutie. But not worth stabbing anyone to death over. You are really, really gonna regret this one. You both are.

Satsuma, Alabama–The body of Lawanda Kay Browning, 46, was found in her home on Monday. Based upon the appearance of the crime scene, Lawanda didn’t go without a fight. There were signs of a struggle throughout the home, blood all over the place, and Lawanda had numerous defensive wounds on her hands. The last face she saw before she died? The face of the coward who killed her, 26-year-old Joshua Browning…her son.

Joshua says it was an accident…he was on drugs and didn’t know what he was doing. He was certainly coherent enough to rip off his mother’s TVs and credit card after he killed her. He was found about 4 hours after the discovery of the body…driving her car, with the TVs in the back seat. Family members believe he was on his way to sell/pawn the TVs for drugs.

In February, Joshua was charged with second-degree theft of property after he was accused of stealing his mother’s 50″ plasma TV, worth $1,300. Lawanda posted his bail on April 9, and he returned to her home to live with her. And how does he repay his mother for her kindness and patience? He stabs her to death a month later. Happy Fucking Mother’s Day. Joshua Browning is being charged with murder. fraudulent use of a credit card, and theft. And because investigators found crack cocaine in the vehicle, he also faces a charge of possession of a controlled substance. He is being held without bond.

Johnson City, Tennessee–There are very few details being released on this case, but, I promise you, the few details that are known are nauseating. First, I was like, ‘huh?’ Then I was like, ‘whaaaa?’ And then, all I could say was, ‘Ewwww! That’s nasty!’ This is the story of Codey Wayne Miller and his accomplice, Christopher Johnson. Miller, 17, is being accused of strangling his mother, 36-year-old Sherry Cooper, and sexually assaulting the corpse.

Detectives believe Miller strangled his mother last Thursday, raped her dead body, threw her in a trash can, and placed her in the backyard. Cooper’s body had been in the trash can for two days before it was discovered.

Codey Wayne Miller is being charged with first-degree murder, felony murder and abuse of a corpse. He is being held at the Upper East Tennessee Juvenile Detention Center pending a June 5 status hearing. The District Attorney plans to petition to have Miller tried as an adult in the case. If convicted as an adult, Miller faces life in prison. If the case remains in juvenile court, Miller could only be held until he is 19 years old. That’s a comforting thought….

Police have also arrested 36-year-old Christopher Johnson in the case. It is believed that he watched Miller murder Cooper and failed to intervene or contact authorities. Court documents state that Johnson retrieved the trash can and instructed the teen to put Cooper’s body in it. One, or both of them, then placed the trash can outside. For his role, Johnson is facing charges of felony murder and abuse of a corpse. His bond has been set at $150,000. If convicted, he could spend life behind bars.

I’m hoping that more details will be released after the autopsy, which is scheduled for Tuesday.

Christian Taylor, 14, Killed His Mother

WELLS, Vt. – On August 2nd at 3:55 a.m., 911 operators received a call and heard the sounds of a woman screaming along with the unmistakable sound of an object hitting another object repeatedly before the screaming stops. State troopers are dispatched to the address the call originated from and Christian Taylor, 14, answered the door stating he was unaware of any problems and told the troopers he would go get his mother, 40-year-old Francine Morgan. When he returned to the troopers, he stated that there was blood in her room. When troopers went inside, they found Francine Morgan’s body on the floor, a bloody flashlight on the bed as well as blood splattered on the floor, ceiling and walls. An autopsy revealed that Francine Morgan died from blunt force trauma to the head and that she had also been shot in the cheek.

She adopted Antwan and his brothers and raised them as her own, teaching them the Golden Rule: “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.” Well, apparently Antwan Anderson wants someone to bludgeon him to death, because that’s what he did to his adoptive mother.  Anderson, 19, is charged with killing Jeanette Anderson, 71, with a hammer to the side of the head.  Her body was found on Tuesday.

Smock, PA – And she listens good. Angela Modispaw, 29, claims that she heard voices early on Friday morning, telling her to kill her mother. By 4:30 a.m., Theresa Modispaw, 58, was dead of brutal stab wounds and Angela’s brother Michael Modispaw had been stabbed in the back with scissors. Apparently those voices weren’t playing around. In March of this year, her attorney claimed she is mentally incapable of standing trial on a homicide charge.

Mary Beth Connolly Pushed Mom Too Far

Livonia, MI. - Mary Beth Connolly, 49, pushed her mother just a little bit too far during an argument March 9. By the end of the dispute, Betty Connolly, 82, lay dead at the bottom of a staircase in her Michigan home. Mary Beth Connolly was found in the living room, bleeding from a self-inflicted neck wound in an apparent suicide attempt. While Mary Beth was in the hospital, police monitored her phone calls.  Betty Connolly’s autopsy showed that Betty Connolly had died of head and neck trauma consistent with being violently pushed down the flight of stairs, and Mary Beth’s telephone conversations did not sound like her mother’s fall had been an accident at all. When Mary Beth Connolly was released from the hospital on Friday, she was arrested.

She later pled guilty to second-degree murder and will serve up to 40 years in prison – Morbid

Cindy Jo Coleman, 49, was found dead in the apartment she shared with her son just hours later. Her parents went to the home to check on Coleman after state police got a tip that Campbell was planning to kill her.

Officers found Elizabeth Skiratko, a 45-year-old mother of two, dead in her bedroom. She had been stabbed numerous times and the body had lain there since her murder on Monday. Although William confessed to killing his mother, the motive behind the murder hasn’t been revealed. According to neighbors, William had been staying out late recently and arguing with his mother about going to school.

Police arrested the teen on Tuesday on first-degree murder charges–he will be charged as an adult.

Nicole “Nikki” Taylor and Michael “Mike” Maltese

South Brunswick, NJ – Michael Maltese, 22, is one of those young men with big plans, no work ethic, and a sense of entitlement.  A high school dropout, he moved into his parents’ home in August with his 18-year-old girlfriend Nicole “Nikki” Taylor.   Mike’s parents did not approve of their son’s choices.   Uneducated, unemployed, and angry, Mike didn’t approve of his parents, either.

Earlier this month, Michael Maltese killed his parents, Michael J. Maltese, 58, and Kathleen Maltese, 53.  And it appears now that he had help from his girlfriend Nikki Taylor.

October 10, the younger Michael Maltese and Nikki Taylor went to New York for a weekend trip.  They took the elder Maltese’s credit cards – all the easier to use since both Maltese men had the same first name – and had a good time.  They got engaged, and Nicole, who had previously voiced annoyance at Michael’s inability to keep a job, seemed ready to start a new life with her man.

The following Friday, October 17, Michael Maltese and an unidentified relative (probably one of his sisters) went to report their parents missing. Mike Maltese owned and operated his own tractor-trailer rig and drove often, and he hadn’t shown up for at least one run.

When Michael Maltese talked to the police, he told conflicting stories about when and where he had last seen his parents.  Initially, Maltese said that he’d last seen them on October 10 – but within a day, that story was busted when the trip to New York showed up on credit cards.  On October 18, Michael Maltese was charged with swearing a false report and released without bail, because Jersey has some smart cops.  They knew that if they let him out and waited, something would break.

It didn’t take long.

Even early on, neighbors saw Nikki Taylor drinking outside the Maltese home.  And one neighbor overheard a confrontation in the yard when two of Michael’s sisters told him that they knew he knew something, and he’d better start talking.  While Michael’s sisters were in tears and sobbing, Michael was “walking around with a smile on his face”, neighbors noted.  The tension was getting thick in there.

On October 23, Michael Maltese posted a comment on his own Myspace page asking for information on his missing parents.  Pretty ballsy given that he knew where they were, I think.  And also too little, too late, since they’d been reported missing for almost a week (and dead for over two weeks) by that time.  No blog entry.  No nothing, except a missing persons flyer in Myspace comment form.  Nice.

On Friday, October 24, the South Brunswick police had Michael Maltese and Nicole Taylor go in to the station to for more questioning.  It didn’t take long – and although police haven’t released who said what, my bet is that Nikki rolled under the pressure.

According to the arrest affidavits, Michael Maltese killed his parents early on the morning of October 8 and then buried them in Beech Woods Park.  And while Nikki didn’t physically murder anyone, she knew what was going on and assisted Michael after the fact.  Both Michael Maltese and Nicole Taylor were arrested and charged with multiple counts, including murder and credit card theft, on Friday.

On Saturday, the bodies of Jack and Kathleen Maltese were found by homicide investigators.  The bodies were buried in shallow graves in a wooded area of the park.  Autopsy results and a cause of death are expected early this week.

Michael Maltese and Nicole Taylor are being held at the Middlesex County Adult Correction Center in North Brunswick, New Jersey.  Maltese is charged with murder, swearing a false statement, and theft, and is held on $2 million bail.  Taylor is charged with theft and conspiracy to commit murder.  Her bond is set at $1 million.

Hope that was one hell of a harvest festival.

Patricia Bynog’s daughter hadn’t been able to reach her mom for several days, so she reported Mrs. Bynog missing on Saturday.  Police went by the house, but find Patricia there, so they left. On Monday, investigators showed up at the house to search for Patricia Bynog.  Officers went around to the back yard and found a patch of dirt which had been recently disturbed, so they started digging.  At around 3:00 Monday afternoon, they found Mrs. Bynog buried in the shallow grave.

Jacob Bynog lived with his mother and had been arrested as recently as September 19 on a domestic violence charge involving her.  His previous arrest history is straight out of The Drug-Addled Violent Crazy Dude’s Handbook and includes numerous assault arrests, including assault on law enforcement.  I particularly like the “prisoner assault with bodily fluids” charge.

Jacob Bynog’s record also includes aggravated driving under the influence, shoplifting, disorderly conduct, criminal damage, indecent exposure, threatening, and the obligatory possession of drug paraphernalia / weed arrest.  Frankly, dude probably needed the weed to even out his Seriously Cranky Disorder. During an interview, Bynog said that he strangled his mother with his bare hands sometime last week.  Nothing like looking Mom in the face while you choke the life out of her, huh?  He then kept her in a bedroom for several days before deciding that he really was gonna have to bury her.

What is up with the keeping corpses lying around lately?  Is it laziness on the part of the killer? Do they suddenly get tired after murdering someone and decide to take a long weekend before disposing of the body?  It’s weird. Jacob Bynog has been charged with first-degree murder.  He is being held in the Pima County Jail on a million dollar bond.

Charlotte, NC - A 12-year-old girl caught a Charlotte city bus to go to school Wednesday. She then changed buses at the main transit located downtown. It was there, 28-year-old Marcus Maurice Kennedy boarded the bus with her and tried talking to her. The 12-year-old did not oblige. Marcus took this in stride and when the girl got off the bus to catch the school bus that takes her to her middle school, this fucking asshole followed her, dragged her into some bushes, and raped her.

Luckily, John Driggers heard the girl screaming and saw Marcus raping the girl, using a window squeegee against her neck. Several other witnesses began chasing Marcus when he ran off, capturing and him in a nearby yard where he was trying to change his clothes with some he had in a bag. These people then dragged his worthless ass back to the scene until cops showed up.

Oh, and since I know people will ask. It seems as if the girl used to live in that area, but had recently moved. She was taking the city buses BACK to her old neighborhood so that she could take her old school bus to school. My guess is wherever she lives, may be out of her current school’s district or something. Not that it matters one bit, of course, just trying to explain why she was bus hopping.

Anyway, here is hoping Marcus is not free to roam the streets again.

Gibbs, MO - Robert William Sapp, 18, wanted to get rid of his grandmother, but now he won’t have to.  On Friday, Sapp was arrested and charged with attempted murder for putting antifungal spray into the coffee of  74-year-old Wilma Kelsey back in early September.  Then Wilma Kelsey died in a car accident on September 17.  Careful what you wish for, Robert.

Mrs. Kelsey and her husband, James Smith, went to the Adair County Sheriff’s Office early in September to file a report claiming that Sapp had poisoned them.  According to the arrest affidavit, Sapp told one of his teachers that he was spraying antifungal spray in his grandparents’ coffee in order to poison them, saying that they were “rude” and “always told (him) what to do”.  In addition to the poisoning, Sapp made verbal threats on a child who also lived in the home with him and his grandparents.

The coffee was turned over to authorities for testing, and Smith said he and his wife suffered a few days of nausea and diarrhea, but  “we were fine after we quit using the coffee”.

Two weeks later, on September 17, Wilma Kelsey had been to the doctor that morning.  That afternoon, she was driving along U.S. Highway 63 when her car crossed the median and hit a truck head-on. Kelsey died, but no autopsy was immediately conducted.

Testing is pending on the coffee, but James Smith does not want his grandson charged with murder.  Smith says that in the twelve years Sapp lived with him and Kelsey, he was only violent that one time, and that Kelsey had blood work earlier in the day that did not show poison in her system.

Of course, Smith doesn’t say what kind of blood work was done, but I’m guessing it was not an in-depth chemical panel designed to detect poisons.  Furthermore, Smith says that he and the family have not approved an autopsy and do not plan to have one done.  The Adair County coroner confirmed this, saying that no autopsy is currently on his schedule.  He also said that blood drawn just after the accident didn’t show poison – but again, he doesn’t say what kind of toxicology was done.

Smith maintains that he believes Wilma Kelsey died of “natural causes”, but doesn’t know which natural cause it was that made her nod out at the wheel shortly after a doctor’s visit.  Could it be a coincidence?  Absolutely.  Could the poison have caused organ damage that went undetected?  Also yes.  Even without active poison in her system, it’s entirely possible that Kelsey died of aftereffects of the poisoning.

I smell something, and it’s not coffee.  Is it just me, or is this kind of weird?  It’s like the family – or at least Grandpa – would rather not know exactly what killed Wilma Kelsey than be sure.  They’d rather let Robert Sapp live under suspicion – or get away with murder.

I wonder why.

League City, TX – Erin Ashlyn Moffatt, 19, reported her mother missing the week of September 7 – just in time for Hurricane Ike to make its way to Galveston. No wonder, then, that in the flurry of preparations for the storm, Jana Moffatt, 47, didn’t turn up right away. On September 15, two days after Ike made landfall, Jana Moffatt’s body was found in a field.

When Erin Moffatt reported her mother missing, she told the League City police that Jana Moffatt had left their trailer without her car, wallet, purse or medicine. Shortly thereafter, Ike made landfall and League City, which is very near Galveston, was inundated.

On September 15, a woman’s body was found in a field near Texas state Highway 35. But the body wasn’t an Ike victim – she’d been dead about ten days. An autopsy found that the woman had been strangled. She didn’t fit the profile of anyone reported missing in the hurricane. But she did fit the description of Jana Moffatt.

Investigators started looking actively for the elder Moffatt, and got a tip that she had died and that her daughter Erin had left the area and gone to Louisiana shortly after reporting her mother missing. On Wednesday, Jana Moffatt’s body was identified through dental records – almost a month after her death.

A search of the Moffatt home turned up something, although Brazoria County is keeping the evidence under wraps. After the search, a warrant was issued for Erin Moffatt both in League City and in Lafayette Parish, Louisiana, where Erin was arrested on Thursday along with her boyfriend Michael Corey Lewis. Lewis’ involvement in Jana Moffatt’s death is uncertain, but at this point he is being charged with evidence tampering.

Erin Ashlyn Moffatt is being held at the Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office in Louisiana. She is awaiting extradition to Texas on a charge of murder. Her bond has been set at $250,000. Michael Corey Lewis is being held on a $100,000 bond. More details as we get ‘em.

FOUNTAIN, CO -Nikita Weis, 18, has to like big titties more than any person I have come across so far. He likes them so much, that he wanted his girlfriend, 21-year-old Sophia Nicole Alsept, to get implants. The only issue that kep this from becoming a reality was a lack of funds. So he came up with a great idea and decided him and his girlfriend would get jobs, make money and save up enough to have the procedure done. Oh no, sorry, that was another couple. Nikita hired two hitmen to kill his mother so he could sell her car and empty her bank account.

On Thursday night, on the 7100 block of Yampa River Heights in Fountain, Nikita was at his mom’s house where she was fixing him dinner. Suddenly, a man dressed in black entered and began beating 44-year-old Hyun Weis in the head with a small, wooden baseball bats. Weis was able to hit the panic button on her car, which scared of her attacker and allowed her to run to a neighbor’s and dial 911.

Turns out that the attackers was actually 18-year-old Juan Antonio Velez. He had been hired, along with Brandon Michael Soroka, 19, to kill Hyun Weis and dispose of her body. Nikita had offered them $7,000 to do the deed. They had actually attempted this same stunt on the previous night, but Weis wouldn’t answer the door. During the attack, Sophia Alsept was hiding with Brandon Soroko outside of the house. I assume they were there to help with disposal. But after the attack was botched, the foursome fled. Nikita and Sophia came back to the scene and told police that they had been held at gunpoint by the attacker, but the police weren’t buying their story and soon after, the plot, and everyone’s involvement, was revealed.

Hyun Weis spent a short time at the hospital but has been released. Nikita Weis, Sophia Alsept, Brandon Soroka and Juan Gonzales, are currently being held on $50,000 bond, each charged with conspiracy to commit first-degree murder.

UPDATE – Leslie Morales and Daniel Pataki were caught today in Bland, Virginia. The pair is currently in custody.  More updates will be posted as we get them.

Charlotte, NC – Alexandria Salem’s body was found in the trash.  At about 5:00 yesterday morning, a woman opened her Charlotte dry cleaners and noticed a large bag next to the dumpster.  Inside were the remains of the 46-year-old Salem.  She’d been brutally murdered and hastily dumped.  Now, police are looking for Salem’s daughter Leslie Michelle Morales, 21, and Morales’ boyfriend Daniel Francis Pataki, 22.

After going to Carolina Cleaners on South Boulevard to process the dump scene, Charlotte investigators headed to a Motel 6 on Red Roof Drive to investigate a possible murder site.  Room 317 at the motel had been vacated and all the sheets stolen – sheets that appeared to be wrapped around the body of Alexandria Salem.  Within a few hours, police believed that Alexandria Salem had been the victim of matricide, killed by her own daughter and her daughter’s boyfriend.

Leslie Michelle Morales doesn’t like her name or her mother.  Her Myspaces, linked above, use the names “Lisa” and “Lilly”.  In a blog entry, Morales airs her grievances at her family:

MY FAMILY HATES MY MAN AND I DONT EVEN KNONW WHY BUT I HAD TO JUST TELL THEM ALL OFF AND I HAD TO GET AWAY FROM THEM……..I LOVE MY MAN MORE THEN THEY WILL EVER KNOW AND I WILL NEVER LEAVE HIM NO MATTER WHAT……..I AM JUST SICK AND TIRED OF THESE DAMN PEOPLE TRYING TO BREAK US UP…….”

Alexandria Salem, for her part, seems to have been a caring, loving mother.  Looking at the Myspaces, Salem was on her daughter’s friends list, but also seemed to have a little talent for subtle guilt, like this comment:

well i guess u dont have time like i do to come online …..i guess there is no need to have a profile on here anymore….i hope to hear from ya soon on here too……i am very proud of u in ur acheivement at work….luv ya sweety…..

It seems clear that there’s been a little bit of tension in the mother-daughter relationship for awhile.  It appears that Salem was trying to be supportive and that Leslie was pulling away, making excuses not to contact her mother for weeks at a time.

At one point in 2007, it appears that Leslie Morales was pregnant with Daniel Pataki’s baby – or thought she was.  However, there’s no further mention of a child except in one of his Myspace photos, in which he is holding a newborn little sister last year.  The caption reads, “My little sister.  I wish it was my daughter though.”

In other Myspaces, Pataki and Morales refer to each other as husband and wife, although they never married.  There’s a sense of immaturity to the couple’s relationship, at least as it appears on Myspace – lots of unrealistic thinking, drama, and fantasy rather than reality.  Combined with a vocal sense of injustice about family reaction to their love affair, it’s easy to see how police zeroed in on Leslie and Daniel as suspects.  The biggest motives for murder are love and money, and I’m willing to bet that both are involved in this case.

By yesterday afternoon, the CMPD were staking out two apartment buildings near the crime scenes in southwest Charlotte.  So far, though, Morales and Pataki have not been found.  Alexandria Salem’s cause of death has not yet been released, and details remain sketchy as the CMPD continues to investigate.

Warrants for murder have been issued for Leslie Morales and Daniel Pataki. Police believe the couple is traveling in a red Chevrolet Cobalt with North Carolina tag number XKY-6459.   The pair is thought to be armed and dangerous.  Police are asking anyone who sees Morales, Pataki or the car not to approach them, but to call 911 immediately.

WELLS, Vermont. – On August 2nd at 3:55 a.m., 911 operators received a call and heard the sounds of a woman screaming along with the unmistakable sound of an object hitting another object repeatedly before the screaming stops. State troopers are dispatched to the address the call originated from and Christian Taylor, 14, answered the door stating he was unaware of any problems and told the troopers he would go get his mother, 40-year-old Francine Morgan. When he returned to the troopers, he stated that there was blood in her room. When troopers went inside, they found Francine Morgan’s body on the floor, a bloody flashlight on the bed as well as blood splattered on the floor, ceiling and walls. An autopsy revealed that Francine Morgan died from blunt force trauma to the head and that she had also been shot in the cheek.

Christian was the only one home with his mother at this time, and denied knowing anything about his mother’s death. He later changed this, admitting to seeing a “dark, shadowy figure” attacking his mother. Court documents go on to state that Christian told police he thought he was dreaming that his mother was screaming at him.

“He continued to say that he had a feeling of his mom in a frantic struggle with the shadowy figure. His mom was fighting, trying not to give up. He further stated that he felt that his mother was getting fatigued, she was pinned against the wall, and she was trying to break away … (Taylor) further advised that there was a lot of wrestling around until ‘he,’ the shadow, gets to a point where ‘he’ can finish her off”

Christian went on to say all of this started over an argument over something his mother was morally against. Christian Taylor has plead not guilty to the charges of murder and is being charged as an adult and is currently being held at a secure juvenile detention center. Warren, Rhode Island - James Soares, 60, and his wife Marian Soares, 53, had been missing since July 9. On Saturday, they were found – dead. They’d been bludgeoned to death with a grub hoe and dumped in the cesspool at their home. Now their son, James Soares Jr., 24, is being charged with murder. Way to treat the parents like shit, James. Literally.

The Soares home is a rural ranch style on Baltimore Avenue in Warren. Neighbors say that there were always six or seven people living in the home and lots of cars out front. The Soares were social, and liked to throw barbecues at their home on weekends. But James and Marian Soares had a few skeletons banging around in their closets, too.

Back in 1986, when James Jr. was just a toddler, the Soares home was raided. Inside, police found cocaine, marijuana, multiple prescription tranquilizers, drug paraphernalia, a .357 Magnum and $1,350 in cash which was seized as drug money. James Soares pleaded no contest to felony charges, was convicted, and ended up with a three year suspended sentence followed by five years’ probation. Ancient history, right? Except that in 2002, the house was raided again, this time for weapons.

This time, police found twelve long rifles, three handguns and some 30,000 rounds of ammunition. Which is not so good for a guy who’s a convicted felon and not legally allowed to have firearms. So James Sr. got a year on home confinement and another five years probation.

Marian, for her part, left over 27 types of medication. Neighbors said she had cancer and various other ailments, and that she hadn’t been healthy for awhile. One source called her a prescription drug addict, another a sweet, long-suffering woman who lived with a lot of pain. The truth is likely somewhere in the middle, but drugs have been a part of the Soares family for most of James Jr’s life.

In June of this year, Marian got mad at her son and his girlfriend and filed a restraining order against the girlfriend. She said that James Jr. and the young woman were stealing from her. And James Jr., called “Jimmy”, is known in the neighborhood for his hot temper. He’s been arrested a number of times for vandalism and disorderly conduct. In 2004, police found James Jr. angry, pacing, and holding a weapon. At that time, police found three tire irons and a baseball bat in his car.

Police believe James Soares Jr. bludgeoned his parents to death with the sledgehammer end of a grub hoe on Wednesday, July 9. On July 13, the couple missed a family party – unheard of for them. On July 14, Marian Soares’ sister called police to report the couple missing, and right away James Jr. was under suspicion. His stories didn’t add up. He had a rocky history with his parents, and as their only son, he was the prime suspect. James Jr.’s attitude seemed off, too – instead of searching for his parents, he lived in the family home and hung out like nothing was happening while his parents were missing. That was kind of weird.

On Thursday, July 24, police brought in a cadaver dog, who hit on the carpet in the home and right over the septic tank in the backyard. James Soares Jr. was arrested on Friday. On Saturday, police went into the home’s backyard, lifted the cover off the septic tank, and started looking. James Soares Sr. and Marian Soares had been dead for about 17 days, rotting in the cesspool, their skulls caved in by a gardening tool.

Yesterday, James Soares Jr. was charged with two counts of first-degree murder in the deaths of his parents. During a brief court appearance yesterday afternoon, Soares was ordered held without bond at the Adult Correctional Institution in Cranston. This morning, he will appear in Providence District Court for a formal arraignment. It’s the first murder in Warren, Rhode Island, in over thirty years.
