WINTER GARDEN, Florida – One lucky family, I think. 48-year-old Rubens Morais and 27-year-old Marcela Borges were home with their 5-year-old son on Sunday when four masked intruders took them hostage. They were all tied up and blindfolded and taken to Apopka. The next day, Borges was forced to withdraw $23,600 from the bank. They were then taken back to their home. Sometime Tuesday, Borges removed her bindings as well as the mask of one of her young, female captors. Not liking that, she reportedly stated “She saw my face and knows who I am. You have to kill her!” Borges, not liking that, jumped from a second-story window. As she ran to a neighbor’s house, one of the captors opened fire on her, hitting her in the side. All four captors then fled the scene. Victor Manuel Sanchez, 20, and Miguel Diaz-Santiz, 25, and Oscar Diaz-Hernandez, 19 have been arrested. The female suspect is still at large.

Dallas, Texas – Women in the Turtle Creek and Oak Lawn area are being told to keep your eyes peeled for any suspicious behavior as a very brazen robber has now been linked to five attacks on females. Their concern is that the guy is getting bolder with every consecutive attack. Police say that the man cases parking lots surprising his targets as they are distracted. Using a gun, he makes the victim take him to ATM’s. In two cases, he has broken into the victims’ homes. An accomplice held one victim at the home while he took the other to an ATM. He made one victim strip naked and get in her closet as he went through her apartment, stealing small electronics and jewelry. So ladies, keep your eyes peeled. It is very important that while you are carrying that bag of shoes while talking on the cell phone about Alicia’s ugly new hairstyle that you are constantly aware of your surroundings!

BTW, just out of curiosity, any readers here familiar with this area? As usual I am just curious about its demographics. You gotta have a set of balls to pull some home robbery shit like this in Texas. A robber there could be seen running out of one of these women’s home with a toaster oven and have a neighbor shoot him in the back with a shotgun. And it would be legal! God Bless Texas.

MONT VERNON, New Hampshire – Residents of the small, hilly town of Mont Vernon are in a state of shock after four teens entered a home to rob it, and attacked a 41-year-old mother and her 11-year-old daughter. Using a machete and a knife, Kimberly Cates was attacked while she lay in her bed and killed by multiple sharp injuries to the head, torso, left arm, and left leg. Her daughter survived the attack although she suffered severe stabbing injuries and spent hours in surgery. The attack was a completely random one, Cate’s home chosen simply because it was isolated. “They picked the house at random because it was in an isolated area,” prosecutor N. William Delker said today during the teens’ arraignments in Milford District Court. “Before they entered the home, all four defendants were aware that the intent was to kill the occupants.”

At around 4 a.m. Sunday, Steven Spader, 17; Christopher Gribble, 19; William Marks, 18; and Quinn Glover, 17 have all been arrested for their part in the crimes. Spader and Gribble were charged with first degree murder, attempted murder, and conspiracy to commit first degree murder. Marks and Glover were charged with burglary, conspiracy to commit burglary, and armed robbery – although prosecutors claim that Glover and Marks were both armed with a deadly weapon, and Glover was fully aware that the occupants of the home would be killed.

Cate’s husband was away on business but flew back to be with his daughter in the hospital. She is expected to survive, but she will obviously have some major issues because of this. What a pity that these idiots could not have broken into a tweaker couple’s house or something. By all reports, Kimberly was an awesome lady. John Quinlan, a Mont Vernon selectman, and friend of the Cates family for five years described 42-year-old mother and nurse Kimberly Cates as an unusually friendly, happy woman devoted to her daughter.

“She was very much the extrovert,” Quinlan said. “The mother and daughter were inseparable. They were almost best friends as well. That’s what I think makes this worse because you can’t imagine anyone having a bad thought about her or a gripe with her.”

Some information on the teens have come to light as friends all report the same thing. Four kids who all fell into a downward spiral over recent years. Spader was a longtime Boy Scout who in recent months grew increasingly distant and depressed. He has a lengthy criminal record including threatening teens with a tire iron after ramming their car, charges of possessing stolen stereo equipment, disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, and marijuana possession charges. Most of these within recent months.

Gribble was a home-schooled Mormon who was planning to become a church missionary. Like a lot of kids raised in that environment (not all, people) he ended up rebelling X10 becoming a dark and brooding figure itching to lash out and become very fond of knives. It is reported that Marks is insecure and angst-ridden teen, and took a turn for the worse after meeting Spader. The same goes for Glover, a musician who performed in coffee shops, sang in the chorus, and starred in a school production of Cabaret.

While New Hampshire does have a death penalty, these boys are not eligible for it. According to the New Hampshire attorney general’s office, the crime does not fit within the state’s definition of a capital murder. The death penalty is only on the table when a law enforcement or judicial officer is killed in the line of duty, in the case of murder-for-hire, if the accused is currently serving a life sentence or when the murder occurs in connection with a kidnapping, drug crime or sexual assault.

Whatever. I am sure that this case will continue to get more heinous as some of these teens turn on each other (my bet is on Marks) and the details on exactly what transpired in that home is revealed. To be able to attack a defenseless woman in her home while she slept in her bed is one thing, but to be able to do the same to an 11-year-old girl? Seriously, fuck ‘em. Fuck their childhoods.

VENTURA, California – I don’t normally like to cover these types of stories because they are getting enough press already, but the fact that they still do not even have a suspect got my interest and I figured I would go ahead and get this one posted. I’m sure everyone has heard by now, on Wednesday, an intruder walked into a beach front home and stabbed a pregnant woman to death, along with her husband, while their two children were in the home.

Ventura County Chief Deputy Larry Carpenter said that the killer entered the house through a sliding glass door at around 10:30 that evening. He was wearing a black jumpsuit and a motorcycle helmet and attacked the 5-month pregnant Davina Husted first, while she was in the kitchen. The couple’s 9-year-old son was watching American Idol and immediately ran to get his older sister who was sleeping in another room. Brock Husted then ran out of his bedroom when he heard his wife screaming. Both children discovered the bodies of their parents, and ran to a neighbor for help. The couple had both been stabbed about 10 times in the torso.

Nothing was stolen and the murder weapon was left at the scene. Police initially began focusing on the transient population that populates nearby, but no arrests have been made. “There’s no answers as to why this happened,” said Scott Husted, Brock’s brother. “It’s a horrible situation and there’s a killer out there that killed a man and his wife – his pregnant wife – with two small children in the home.” Brock owned a successful wrought iron business and described as a family man with no enemies, his wife was described as a role model to her children and active in their school activities.

I understand the police targeting the homeless community, as the house is in a gated community with easy access from the beach. It makes sense to start there first. But the motorcycle helmet thing gets me and smacks a bit of a targeted murder, although as of right now there is absolutely no proof of that. In some ways, I just kind of want it to be anything but a random attack carried out for no particular reason. Seems as if he didn’t want to be identified or even possibly recognized, you know? But with the stories we report on here, I wouldn’t be too shocked if it did turn out to be some crazy asshole who thought they were killing Satan or something.

Update: 10-29-09 6 months later and still no arrests, although there has been an update. New clues are leading investigators to believe that it wasn’t a random killing and that the couple was specifically targeted. “They didn’t lead very simple, basic lives. It was a very complex set of circumstances, but other than that, I can’t say anything,” said Capt. Ron Bonfiglio of the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department.

Orlando, FL- Mauricio DeJesus Reyes, 44, is another vile and sneaky bastard who spends his time playing the boogeyman. Just like SoJaded’s previous story about Carlos Garcia, Mauricio Reyes snuck into a home with plans on kidnapping a little girl.

In the early hours of May 14′th, Reyes broke in through the rear sliding door of a home and slithered into a sleeping 4-year old girl’s bedroom. After Reyes took the child’s blanket and a pair of shorts from her dresser, he carried the child to the garage where he laid her down on the blanket and bound and gagged her with duct tape. Reyes then removed two pairs of the girl’s mother’s high-heeled shoes from a closet near the garage and put them next to the girl. After he locked the garage door, Reyes went back into the home to look for more items. Thankfully, thankfully, thankfully, after Reyes left the garage, the girl was able to remove her binds and scream for her parents. Her parents found Reyes in a hallway, the father chased after him, and Reyes was able to get away. But not for long…

The second best thing to the girl’s escape is that Reyes is a stupid criminal. Reyes must of needed some liquid courage before his attempted abduction, because he left a pile of empty Natural Ice beer cans behind the house. Police were able to get his DNA and fingerprints from the cans, but a check of the statewide database came up empty. So the investigators decided to follow the trail of beer cans to the nearest store, a Publix, where they looked up sales of Natural Ice. Publix pulled up all the names with matching videotape to all the sales. Surveillance footage from a home in the neighborhood showed a 2007 Jeep Patriot roaming the streets around the time of the break-in, so detectives compared owners of that vehicle to Publix surveillance footage and driver’s license photos. Detectives found a match with Reyes, and lab results showed it was Reyes’ DNA on the beer cans and his fingerprints on the window of the home. After he was caught, Reyes admitted to breaking into the home, but denied any intentions to assault the girl. Bull. Fucking. Shit.

Reyes, who is not on the sexual offender or predator database, has a history. Reyes had been charged with loitering and prowling four times in the past 20 years for standing outside people’s windows and masturbating. Court records show he was arrested in 1998, for loitering and prowling, but prosecutors dropped that case because of insufficient evidence. In 2007, a man broke into the bathroom window of a home and gagged an 8-year-old girl. The intruder was chased off by the girl’s mother and police never found the man. Reyes denied involvement in the 2007 incident, but detectives said they have DNA evidence. Reyes will now be charged with that 2007 incident. For this latest attempt, Reyes is charged with kidnapping of a child under 12 and with burglary of an occupied residence. He is being held on no bond.

COLLEGE PARK, Georgia -23-year-old Calvin Lavant and Jamal Hill decided to perform a home invasion on an apartment where 10 people where attending a birthday party. Upon entering through a patio door, they demanded money and cell phones, while putting the men in one room and the women in another. The apartment owner, Christopher Bailey,  said the gunmen started counting bullets. “The other guy asked how many (bullets) he had. He said he had enough,” said Bailey. That’s not a real good sign. But luckily the two gunmen were unaware of the fact that the captives had something to even the playing field a bit. A gun of their own.

The gun was in a backpack, and after Lavant went to the bedroom where the women were being held, leaving Jamal to watch the men, a college student sprung into action and retrieved the firearm and began shooting at Jamal. Having the tables turned and finding himself facing the business end of a pistol, Jamal ran from the apartment. The student then went to the room where Lavant was holding the women and broke in.

“Apparently the guy was getting ready to rape his girlfriend. So he told the girls to get down and he started shooting ,” said Bailey.

Gunfire was exchanged, one of the women being hit multiple times (she’s gonna live) and Lavant escaped through a window. But he didn’t get far. Even though it turns out Lavant lived in the building next door, he never made it. He died from bullet wounds to the arm and face, saving taxpayers some money and society from suffering from any further trouble out of him. Bailey and the rest of the people that were terrorized by the two gunmen are thankful that the one student took action. “I think all of us are really cognizant of the fact that we could have all been killed,” said Bailey.  Police state they are close to arresting the second asshole who should also feel pretty lucky to be alive.

I am aware that the shooting actually happened Sunday morning, but names of the subjects have just recently been released and I figured we need a bit of good news for a change.

Carlos Fernandez and Luis Reyes, Jr.

New Port Richey, FL–Carlos Fernandez, 15, and Luis Reyes, Jr., 14, are a couple of real bad-ass little boys. Not only are they thieving little fuckers, robbing homes and businesses in their neighborhood, they are also rapists. These little assholes beat, raped, and robbed an 89-year-old woman.

Authorities believe Fernandez, Reyes, and their 16-year-old partner in crime, Sean Michael Maus, broke into the woman’s home on April 2nd. Maus had done some odd jobs for the woman in the past, and may have considered her an easy victim. The terrible trio ripped off $84, a flashlight, some snack food, and the woman’s car. The car was later recovered.

Fernandez and Reyes weren’t done with the woman yet. They returned to her home early Wednesday morning, this time wearing masks. They beat the woman as she laid in her bed, raped her, and tried to smother her with a pillow. When she tried to fight back by kicking one of the assailants in the nuts, they beat her even harder. They ransacked her house and took off. The victim was later treated for her injuries at a local hospital and released.

Maus gave up the names of his partners after being interrogated for three hours. Detectives are still trying to determine if Maus was involved in the assault and rape of the woman. He was arrested Wednesday and charged with grand theft auto and burglary.

Carlos Fernandez and Luis Reyes, Jr., confessed to the crimes and both are facing charges of attempted first degree murder, sexual battery, grand theft auto and burglary. They are both being charged as adults. The two have also been charged in connection to recent burglaries at Georgia’s Smoke Shop and Jasmine Discount Beverage in Port Richey. Nice kids…your mommas must be so proud!

UPDATE – Suspect identified as Chiew Chan Saevang, a suspected opium smuggler . Washington County Utah it is being reported police were involved in a car chase with the suspect early this morning, who was with is girlfriend, Yer Yang. Catawba County Sheriff’s Office tells NewsChannel 36 the suspect shot Yer Yang as they were being followed by Utah authorities and then turned the gun on himself as the vehicle ran off the roadway. Drugs seem to be the motive.

CATAWBA COUNTY, N.C. – I don’t normally like to report on cases like this as they will usually get enough major press anyway. But this one is local to me, the story quite tragic, and someone out there killed four people on Thursday morning and has not been caught yet. The picture above is a sketch of the person they are looking for. On Thursday morning, a friend of 18-year-old Pauline Chao arrived at her home to take her to Bunker Hill High School. She observed a man run to the back of the house as they were driving off and informed Pauline what she had seen. Pauline asked to be taken back to the home, and as her friend watched in horror, a man from inside drug Pauline through the front door and begin attacking her. The teen ran off calling 911. By time police arrived 18 minutes later, Pauline, her mother, Lisa Saephan, her sister, 20-year-old Melanie Saephan, and her brother, 3-year-old Cody Saechao were all dead of stab and gunshot wounds.

The husband was at work in Statesville at the time of the murders, and since receiving news of his family’s death, he has not eaten and has stated he no longer has anything to live for. And I can sympathize with the guy. Investigators have stated that the women attempted to fight off their attacker. They also found a gun behind the house as well as two stolen cars near the residence. The suspect is described as a Hispanic or Asian man in his late 30s or early 40s, and about 5 feet 4 inches tall. He was wearing a blue hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans or sweatpants believed to be in a black or dark blue newer model Toyota Camry with the partial license plate P24.

“My personal opinion is that this was a selected situation. It was not random,” Sheriff David Huffman. said. “They did not arbitrarily pick that house. They knew who lived there and what the situation was because the father had gone to work in another county, apparently. The person apparently knew the pattern, if you will, that the three women and the little child would be there.” “It appears at this point in the investigation he knew where he was going, and he came to do what he wanted to,” Major Coy Reid said.

UPDATE – More details to come, but just heard on the news that at 2 a.m., police released an APB on the suspect in this case. Then in Washington County Utah it is being reported police were involved in a high speed chase with the suspect early this morning, who also had a female passenger. Catawba County Sheriff’s Office tells NewsChannel 36 the suspect shot his girlfriend as they were being followed by Utah authorities and then turned the gun on himself as the vehicle ran off the roadway. News conference at 9 a.m.

Mary Parnell and Larry Whitfield

Raleigh, NC - Larry Whitfield was a 20-year-old man with no prior criminal record until this week.  Now, due to a string of very bad decisions that led to his scaring 79-year-old Mary Parnell to death, he stands accused of first degree murder.   I’ll tell you what: that’s one hell of a bad week.

I wonder what happened in Larry’s life to make him turn to desperate acts; for desperate is the only way to categorize his behavior.   Larry Whitfield and another man decided to rob a credit union in Gastonia.  Apparently, they didn’t hide their intentions very well, because as they approached the bank with semiautomatic weapons,  someone saw them and the bank’s staff locked the security doors!   FAIL!

So now, the police were on the way, and these two are on the street with weapons.  What did they do?  They jumped into their get-away car, and promptly crashed it.  D’oh!

Whitfield ran, and broke into Mary Parnell’s house.   Mrs. Parnell was so frightened that she went into cardiac arrest and died.   Now Larry Whitfield is facing a first degree murder charge.

There’s no evidence that Mr. Whitfield touched Mrs. Parnell, and he told police that he even assured her that he wasn’t there to hurt her.   Further, her autopsy report revealed that she had an enlarged heart, was overweight and had advanced liver disease, kidney disease, hypertension, heart disease and was a diabetic, all of which were deemed “secondary factors.”   The doctor officially listed her cause of death as “a heart attack due to stress during home invasion.”

So, what do you think?  Clearly, Larry Whitfield was up to no good, and his illegal activity caused Mary Parnell to die.  But he did not do anything deliberate to harm her.  In fact, I’d say that he did nothing that a reasonable person would have reasonable expectation would cause harm, which I believe is the normal standard for manslaughter.

He needs to be prosecuted, but is murder one an appropriate or provable charge??   I’d be inclined to go with manslaughter.  Or maybe 2nd-degree murder.  I’m having a hard time buying a 1st-degree murder charge.

Larry Whitfield, whatever it is you were doing for the first 20 years of your life, you should have stuck with it.  Because now an innocent grandmother of five is dead and it’s on you.

Upper Darby, PA - Amber Jackson was a beautiful 20-year-old student at Delaware County Community College, and a part-time dispatcher for the Pennsylvania State Police.   She had her whole life in front of her, until Freddie Cleveland stole it.

Freddie, 23, and Amber had been high school sweethearts.  But things hadn’t been very sweet of late, and Amber recently broke up with Freddie.  It seems he didn’t take that very well, because Amber was in the process of getting an order of protection executed.  Sadly, it wasn’t done on time.

On Tuesday around 6:00 PM, Amber returned to her parents’ home in Drexel Hill to find Freddie waiting on the porch.  It’s obvious that she was afraid of him, because her response was to run into the house, lock the door, and tell her 13-year-old sister to hide.  She probably saved her sister’s life.

Not being one to notice when he’s unwelcome, Freddie broke into the house, retrieved a knife from the kitchen and came after Amber.  After a brutal struggle which took place in many rooms of the house, Freddie Cleveland succeeded in killing Amber Jackson.  He stabbed her repeatedly — especially in the face — and with such force that the police characterized it as mutilation.

At that point, police say he plunged the knife into his own chest, and police found him on the kitchen floor, bleeding badly from the chest.  He is in critical condition at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, but he is expected to recover.   He will then be arraigned on one count of murder.

Freddie Cleveland:  just one more murdering asshat who proves that we need to do more for the threatened in our society before they wind up as victims.   Enjoy your life in prison, Mr. Cleveland.  Does that prospect honestly make you feel better than the prospect of a woman leaving you?

Heather Mason Calderon

Erwin, NC – While Linda Mason was in a Chapel Hill hospital for cancer treatment, someone broke into her Erwin home.  The thief stole food, bed linens, decorations… even the Christmas tree!  Now, stealing Christmas from a cancer patient is bad enough – but when the thief is the patient’s daughter, it’s even worse.    Heather Mason Calderon, 35, was arrested Monday and charged with the crime.

Whatever possessed Calderon to break into her mother’s home and steal everything?  Food I can kind of understand.  Many’s the time I’ve popped in on my loving parents’ kitchen for a meal or three.  But sheets?  Decorations?  The Christmas tree?

Did she slither and slink with a smile most unpleasant?  Did she go ’round the room and steal every present?  Because clearly she didn’t stop until she stole her mom’s feast.  She stole her mom’s pudding!  She stole her roast beast!  She took all the food and the linens with glee.  “And now,” grinned the daughter, “I’ll stuff up the tree!”

I know.  Dr. Seuss is appalled.  So am I.

Heather Mason Calderon is charged with felony breaking and entering to commit larceny.  Unfortunately, there’s not an additional Grinch charge for stealing her cancer patient mother’s Christmas decorations.  And get this, denizens – when Calderon was arrested, police served an outstanding warrant for… you guessed it!  More breaking and entering!

Yeah, this one’s a real winner.  I’m sorry your daughter is a complete loser, Mrs. Mason.  I hope you get well soon, and have a little bit of a merry Christmas anyway.  Heather Calderon is being held in the Harnett County Jail on $12,000 bond.

Rancho Cucamonga, CA – Is David Mitchell Clark your electrician?  Did he ever install electrical outlets in your house?  If you live in Anaheim, Fontana, Corona, or the San Bernardino Mountains in California, you might wanna have a look at your bathroom walls.  David Mitchell Clark may have been watching you.

So far, six victims have been identified, but investigators say that there are definitely more.  Clark, 34, got caught red-handed (red-tooled?) in August when he left a power tool next to a toilet while he was working in a client’s home.  Problem was, the tool had a camera attached to the end.

When confronted, Clark said that he had to use the camera attachment so he could lower the tool into the walls and view footage while he works – kind of like microsurgery, only with walls and peeping.  He conveniently didn’t mention that he left the cameras inside the walls.  Or the downloaded video he was obtaining.  Because David Mitchell Clark is a perv like that.In September, a female resident of the home where the tool was discovered (pun intended) still felt uneasy.  So she called police, who came out to search her house.  To everyone’s surprise, officers found a video recorder with an audio receiver installed in the woman’s attic.  There was footage on the camera hard drive of a woman changing clothes in her bathroom in a totally different house.  When police went to the bathroom to check it out, they found a wireless camera installed and hidden in the plate of an electrical socket.

Turns out that Clark, working under the name DMC Electrical Services, was putting the cameras in the homes of women who hired him.  He’d then drive by the homes later and wirelessly download the video and images off the cameras.  When police searched Clark’s home, they found footage of at least six victims.

Clark was arrested and taken in for questioning, where he admitted to the counts they could prove – but also said he’d done this to many women.  His reason?  He thought “they were hot”.  Clark told investigators, “It was an opportunity that I should have never considered, but I did it, and it’s going to ruin my life.”

And your victims will never change clothes, shower, pee or do anything without wondering who’s watching. Thanks for that, David Clark, you heartless bastard.

Police believe there may be at least twenty other victims in the San Bernardino area.  If you have used DMC Electrical or know someone who has, please call authorities at 909-477-2859.

David Mitchell Clark is charged with two counts of first-degree residential burglary and two counts of disorderly conduct.  He pleaded not guilty last week, and remains in custody at West Valley Detention Center on bonds totaling $285,000.  Clark is scheduled to be in court today.  I think a few years without privacy is a very good idea.

Farwell, Mich - Justin Gaskill, 27, cut the screen window of a home in the town of Farwell, slipped inside and forced an 11-year-old, who at first thought it was a prank, out of her bed at knifepoint. He then made the girl walk with him almost two miles to his home where he sexually assaulted her. He then let the girl go the next morning, warning her not to tell anyone what had happened. By time the girl made her way back home, the mother had already reported her missing and was outside talking with police. The little girl ran to her mother and told them what had happened. Based on her descriptions, Gaskill was located and arrested.

He was subsequently charged with two counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct, one count of kidnapping, one count of home invasion, and one count of felonious assault. He was also put on a second-offense habitual offender notice which means he has fucked himself as well as the little girl, as a previous arson conviction will mean that he could very well receive one-and-a-half times the maximum penalty of these charges. That is, if he doesn’t reach another plea.

The fact that this was a random abduction, that the family did not know this man is scary enough. The family did not know this man. But if you read here, the comments include people understandably upset with the fact that the man prosecuting Gaskill is the same man responsible for the reason why he was out of jail in the first place. You will also see a comment from the mother of the victim explaining why she decided to go public with her name, as well as people who know Gaskill.

No defenders, thankfully, but some of these comments echo what we hear a lot in these stories at D’D, the fact that Gaskill may have had a mental illness, and that in school, he was a nice guy. But a couple of them stood out for me in particular, and those are the comments relating to him having a boy about the same age as this girl, and another commenter stating this isn’t the first time he has been accused of sexual misconduct with a minor. Now of course, these have not been confirmed, but I am sure they will be proven or disproved soon enough.

Anyway, I hope Gaskill enjoys his time in prison, where inmates may not look at raping an 11-year-old girl the same light as someone who commited arson.

Chicago – For every time I’ve snarled “Fuck!” while fighting to get the ironing board out of the closet, for every “Shit!” I’ve uttered after running the iron into the edge of my hand, for the many sneers I’ve tossed in the direction of the Sunbeam while opting to just wear the damn crumpled shirt…I apologize. Were it not for one woman’s commitment to having her family’s clothing items neat and unwrinkled, Carmelo Rodriguez might’ve gotten away with some serious shit.

Back on October 16th, early in the morning, the woman in question (let’s call her WiQ) was in her apartment with her 11-month-old baby when Carmelo Rodriguez, 42, began pounding on her door and yelling for “Rosa.” Alas, “Rosa” lived elsewhere, and so WiQ told him to go upstairs, after which she heard him in that vicinity, banging on a door. Now, we can only guess as to what it was that “Rosa” promised Rodriguez, but whatever it was, when he was unable to locate Rosa, he returned to the downstairs apartment and proceeded to kick the door down and force his way into the apartment.

WiQ did her best: she used her cell phone to try to call her husband, but Rodriguez took the phone from her. She tried to escape out a back door, but he caught her and dragged her to a bedroom, where he tried to rape her. However, his attempts failed when she placed a hot clothing iron on his face, leaving him with blisters and the outline of the iron. Apparently, Rodriguez also was burned on the arm by the victim as he tried to take the iron from her.

A neighbor heard WiQ screaming and rushed to WiQ’s apartment and pulled Rodriguez off her. She also recognized Rodriguez as one of her husband’s acquaintances before he fled.

It took a few days, but Rodriguez was captured with the assistance of the U.S. Marshals Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Force. Thursday, a Cook County judge set bond at $450,000 for Carmelo Rodriguez. His criminal history includes four felony convictions for burglary, attempted residential burglary, and aggravated discharge of a firearm.

UPDATE 11/27/2008 – Curtis Lavelle Vance, 28, has been charged with murder in the death of Anne Pressly. More details at end of article

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Anne Pressly, 26, is a KATV anchor woman who recently had a small part in the Oliver Stone film, “W“. She is currently in critical condition after being severely beaten. Her mother found her unresponsive in her bed at around 4 a.m., bleeding from her head, 30 minutes before she was to be on the set of “Daybreak“.

Police have stated her injuries are from blunt force trauma to the head. Police are not sure if this was a robbery gone wrong, but have stated that it is possible that it is something else entirely. They have not released if she had been sexually assaulted or not. But I would be surprised if this was just a simple robbery that turned violent. Like the rest of you are probably thinking, the viciousness of this seems pretty personal. Police have begun questioning co-workers to see if they can get any insight.

Just added the video in which they reveal that there was no stabbing, no forced entry but that there is an item missing.

UPDATE 10/25/08 – KATV Daybreak anchorwoman Anne Pressly has died as a result of injuries sustained in a violent attack at her home earlier this week. Anne was 26 years old.  Her family’s statement can be found here.  We will continue to update this story as the investigation into Anne’s murder continues.

UPDATE 11/27/08 – Curtis Thomas has been arrested in connection to the beating death of Anne Pressly. No motive has been given yet, but in a press conference yesterday, Little Rock Police Chief Stuart Thomas said that the arrest was based on “a very, very solid case due to solid detective work.”Curtis Lavelle Vance, 28, from Marianna was aware that police were about to arrest him and had tried to flee his home with a 25-year-old woman and three small children.
