Atlanta, Georgia – When John Michalik observed a group of Atlanta Department of Public Works employees doing a bit of JackJack reviews and Shit while blocking a road – he pulled out his camera and began filming them. The workers were not pleased by being on camera and one of them let Michalik know it with threats and racial slurs. “You keep putting that camera in my face, I’ll tell you what I’ll do. I’ll take that motherfucking camera and whoop your ass,” yelled a DPW employee on the tape. What was the worker doing? reading a tabloid that he displayed to the camera saying he was, “Reading about y’alls crazy ass white folks.” While his fellow employees tried to calm the their fellow worker down, he wasn’t finished. Belleville, Illinois – Two of the students involved in the beating of a 17-year-old classmate while riding on a Belleville school bus will be charged with felonies for their part. The altercation was captured on video (watch it after the jump), and shows a 17-year-old get beat by two different students within moments of each other. The race issue was thrown around when the story first broke, as the victim is white and his attackers are black, but more information has come out since these reports and it doesn’t look like race was a motivating factor. And chivalry is damn near unheard of now as the old timers die off and their mannerisms lost. Boulder, CO - Luke Barrett is a mess – not only is he sportin’ a couple of retarded tats, but check out that half ’stache! WTF is going on there? A preliminary hearing was underway at the Schuylkill County courthouse on Monday. Outside, a group of protesters, made up of immigrant workers’ and immigrants’ rights groups, had become so loud, the hearing had to be stopped so that authorities could get the group to quiet down. The hearing dealt with the beating death of 24-year-old Luis Ramirez, an immigrant who entered the US illegally 6 years ago, and currently resided in Shenandoah, a coal mining town in northeast PA. He lived there along with his fiancee, a Shenandoah native, and worked at a local factory and a farm hand. He died from injuries he suffered during a racially charged, late-night altercation in a park on July 12th. His attackers? Three teenagers from Shenandoah. All-American boys who were current and former members of the Shenandoah Valley High School football team. The hearing was to see if prosecutors had enough evidence to charge the three teens with 1st and 2nd degree murder.. Read on for the details.

Illinois - Felipe Rivera, 43, and another man were both at a basement party when “Mr. Rivera got upset apparently because he believed the victim, No. 1, didn’t respond to a female and then, No. 2, somehow winked at him — made what he perceived as a sexual advance,” said Cicero police spokesman Dan Proft. Rivera then punched the man in the face and was then asked to leave the party. Rivera waited outside of the party waiting for the man he punched to leave. He then followed the man home. Update 4/24/08 – Nakita McDaniels, 15, has been sentenced to juvie for her role in the attack on Sarah Kreager.  Two teens had charges dropped, and the other kids involved have received lesser sentences.  Update at the bottom of the article.

BALTIMORE – Sarah Kreager, 26, suffered broken facial bones as well as serious cuts to her head and neck after she was punched, kicked and dragged off a Maryland Transit bus by a group of youths Tuesday afternoon. Kreager’s companion, Troy Ellis, was also attacked when he tried to intervene. The reason this is making news, aside from the fact that someone got their ass beat on a public bus, is the fact that Sarah is white, and the 9 (yes, NINE) teenagers were black.

The six boys and three girls, all 14 and 15 years old, were are also accused of menacing an elderly white passenger and assaulting the bus operator, a black male who defended his passenger. They all attend Robert Poole Middle School in Hampden.Their side of the story is that they were making fun of Keager because she had a black eye. Keager supposedly got mad and spit at one of the girls, then all hell broke loose. They claim there was nothing racial about the acttack and their parents are backing them up with statements made to the press like this one:

“It wasn’t a hate crime,” said one of the girl’s mother, Monalisa Carter. “That’s so untrue. I did not raise her that way. Britny is not a racial person. She has white friends, black friends; she gets along with everybody.”

In a written report, MTA police said the beating took place after one of the boys kept jumping in front of Kreager, claiming that the open seats on the bus were reserved. When Kreager finally found a seat, the teens began throwing punches at her and her boyfriend. Kreager stated that she never spit, and she never said anything racial. Kreager feels the attack was racial, but that it spiraled out of control when the youths started getting caught up in what was happening. They did not stop beating her until a woman came out of a corner house to intervene. All of the teens were charged as juveniles and released to their parents custody.

I am interested how this will pan out and if this will be considered a hate crime or not. SpeakSpeak reviews your mind, but don’t be ignorant.

UPDATE 4/24/08:  Nakita McDaniels, 15, the ringleader of Sarah Kreager’s beating, has been sentenced to juvenile detention until she is released by a judge or turns 21.  Two of the other nine teenage defendants had their charges dismissed.  One girl was ordered to complete her ordered community service, and the remaining four teens were ordered to complete 50 hours of community service, 30 days of community detention, and violence prevention/mental health treatment.
