ORONO, MN – Police in Minnesota say a woman hanged herself and her 5-year-old son in the basement of her home.

Police were first called to the home of 47-year-old Gina Sommers after the father of her 5-year-old son was unable to get in touch with her.

The boy’s father, Jeffry Sandberg, was in the middle of a custody battle with Sommers and was scheduled to pick up his son at 4 p.m., but Sommers was not answering her phone or coming to the door.

When police arrived, they left shortly after stating there wasn’t much they could legally do at that time but to call them back if the situation remained the same.

Sandberg called back a few hours later stating the situation had not changed and that a family member was on their way to the home with a set of keys.

Police used the keys to gain entry into the home and found Sommers and her son hanged in the home’s basement.

“It wouldn’t have mattered if we would have [entered] at that 4 o’clock time or that 8 o’clock time,” Police Chief Correy Farniok said.…

BANGKOK – A man hanged himself and his 11-month-old daughter live on Facebook after getting into a fight with his wife.

According to police, 20-year-old Wuttisan Wongtalay threatened to kill his wife after he accused her of cheating on him. Jiranuch Trirat said she was scared so she ran from the house, leaving him alone with their daughter, Natalie.

After she left, Wongtalay ended up leaving the house with Natalie and climbed to the top of an abandoned hotel where he started a Facebook livestream.

He then broadcast himself tying a rope to his daughter’s neck and lowers the girl, dressed in a bright pink dress, from the side of the building.

“You can hear the girl crying and finally the crying stops. Then he pulls her up onto the roof top and unties the rope from her neck,” said Lt Col Sanit Nookhong.

Wongtalay does not livestream his own death, but when police arrived on the scene after getting phone calls about the video, they found both Wongtalay and Natalie hanged from the side of the building.…

MARQUETTE, MI – An 11-year-old boy hanged himself after his 13-year-old girlfriend faked her own suicide on social media.

When this story was first making the rounds, the mother of the boy was talking about her son’s suicide in hopes it would get other parents to talk to their kids about the dangers of social media.

Katrina Goss did not go into details regarding the motives behind her son deciding to end his own life, aside from saying it was because of a social media prank. Her original statement read:

My son Tysen Benz was an 11 year old student, athlete, comedian, friend, brother, charismatic and all around amazing child. On Tuesday March 14th he impulsively chose to end his own life as a result of a horrific act of a social media prank which is under investigation by authorities. He clung on with the help of life support until Tuesday April 4th. He has now been set free and can Rest In Peace. He was loved by everyone he knew and he will absolutely never be forgotten.

MIAMI, FL – Authorities say 14-year-old Nakia Venant was live-streaming when she hanged herself in her foster family’s bathroom.

The two hour live-stream happened Sunday night inside the bathroom as Venant made a noose from a scarf. She then attached the scarf to the shower door frame and hanged herself.

One of Venant’s friends saw the live-stream and contacted police, but police first showed up at the friend’s house. They were then provided the wrong address before finally finding the correct residence.

Once inside the home, they found Venant hanging in the bathroom as her foster parents slept. Despite efforts to save her, Venant would be pronounced dead at the hospital.

Administrators with the Florida Department of Children and Families aren’t saying much about the circumstances surrounding Venant’s suicide, only stating that police were investigating the death of a child in the care of a foster family.

“We are absolutely horrified and devastated by the news of this young girl’s death,” said DCF Secretary Mike Carroll. “We will do everything we can to support this family and all those who cared for her as they begin to heal from this tragedy.…

nataliia-kariaMINNEAPOLIS, MN – Police have charged a woman with attempted murder after the day-care provider tried hanging a 16-month-old toddler in the basement of her home daycare.

The incident happened last Friday as a man arrived at 42-year-old Nataliia Karia’s home daycare to drop of his 3-year-old child.

The man said he was greeted by Karia who said she “couldn’t take it anymore.” She said she had “done something bad” and wanted to show him.

The man said he ran past Karia when he heard a child’s cries coming from the basement and found Karia had made a noose out of children’s tights and had hanged a 16-month-old child by their neck from a pipe.

As the man got the baby down and called police, Karia fled the scene in her minivan. After she rear-ended a vehicle, she ran over a man who got out of his vehicle to inspect the damage. She then struck a bicyclist before parking her vehicle and tried jumping off a highway overpass.

Karia was stopped by several passersby and taken into custody.…

According to a Humane Society press release, the biker discovered the dog hanging from a tree on the Department of Natural Resources’ property. The dog had been asphyxiated by being hanged from a branch with her feet barely touching the ground. Further evidence showed she was severely sexually assaulted while being restrained.

The Humane Society is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to the conviction of whoever raped and killed the dog. This reward is double the usual amount offered by the organization because one of their board members chipped in some of their own money.

John SalersRAGLAND, AL – John Salers has been sentenced to 20 years in prison after the 18-year-old pleaded guilty to murdering his 9-year-old half-sister by hanging her from a tree in their yard.

We first reported on Salers back in 2012 after he was taken into custody following the discovery of his half-sister, Katelynn Arnold, hanging dead from a tree in her family’s backyard.

When Arnold did not return home from a bicycle ride in the neighborhood, her aunt went looking for her. She did not find her until she returned home and checked the backyard.

That’s where the 9-year-old was found hanging from a tree by her neck with an old tire swing rope.

The following day, police would take Salers into custody and charged him with capital murder. Only 14-years-old at the time, the teen admitted to police that he intentionally killed his half-sister by hanging her from the tree.

He reportedly gave police a possible motive for wanting to kill the girl, but it was not revealed at the time.…

nooseGRAND RAPIDS, MI – A 4-year-old girl died after she accidentally hanged herself with clothing while trying to reach for something in her room.

The girl was alone in her room when her mother and stepfather found her hanging by her neck from clothing that had been hanging on the back of a door. She was taken to Hackley Hospital in Muskegon but later air-lifted in critical condition to Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital in Grand Rapids.

Unfortunately, Capt. Mark Bennett of the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department said the girl died from her injuries on Tuesday.

“The investigation into this incident is ongoing,” Bennett said. “However, at this point, it does appear that the 4-year-old may have become entangled in clothing that was hanging from the back of a bedroom door. This may have occurred while the youngster was standing on a toy trying to reach an item up high.”

No charges have been filed at this time, but Bennett said detectives are still conducting interviews and analyzing evidence, and that a forensic autopsy will be performed within the next few days to find the exact cause of death.…

Cecelia WoodsGREENWOOD TOWNSHIP, MI – Police say James Jackson Sr. used a dog lead cable to strangle a woman and her two children before using it to hang himself.

Police say that on Saturday, the 39-year-old killed 24-year-old Cecelia Woods, 3-year-old Keyon Jackson and 2-year-old James Jackson Jr. Afterwards, he contacted people to confess what he had done and his plans to kill himself.

“Just prior to his own death, Jackson Sr. contacted numerous people, confessing that he had killed Woods and the children, and his intention to kill himself,” state police said in a statement. “He also posted a suicide note on the refrigerator door.”

He wasn’t lying, and he made good on his word. When police arrived at the mobile home, they found Jackson hanging by his neck from a dog-lead cable that was attached to a TV antenna just outside the front door.

Inside they would find Woods dead in one bedroom, and the two children dead on a mattress in another bedroom.

A medical examiner would conclude Woods and her two children had all been strangled to death with the same metal dog lead Jackson used to hang himself with.…

Victor SolanoDAVENPORT, FL –  Victor Solano has been arrested after Polk County deputies say he hanged his dog from a tree for making a mess in his trailer.

Solano had initially asked his neighbors to borrow a gun so he could shoot the 18-month-old pit-bull for making the mess. This, as we all know, being the standard method of disciplining animals when they misbehave.

When neighbors refused to let the Solano have a loaded firearm, he tied a rope around the dog’s neck and hanged it from a tree, killing it. Solano then tied the rope to an ATV and dragged the dog to a local pond where  he dumped the body.

Investigators were able to recover the dog’s body and delivered it to Polk County Animal Control. Solano was arrested and charged with felony animal cruelty and unlawful disposal of a dead domestic animal.

This isn’t Solano’s first brush with the law. He was released from prison in March 2013 and had been arrested on previous charges of burglary, larceny, carrying a concealed weapon, battery domestic violence, and violation of parole.…

Janna ThompsonFULTON COUNTY, GA – Janna Thompson has been indicted on second-degree murder and child cruelty charges after a 3-year-old boy in her daycare accidentally hanged himself while playing on a slide.

On July 9, Thomas Stephens was being watched at Janna’s Daycare, a daycare Thompson ran out of her home. According to the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office, Thompson took Stephens and two other toddlers outside to play, leaving two infants and another toddler inside her home.

At some point Janna went back inside to discipline another child.

“While the children were playing, one toddler began misbehaving,” court documents stated. “The Provider took this child inside leaving three children unsupervised on the playground. While inside, the Provider used the restroom, received a phone call and made a phone call.”

After an “undetermined amount of time,” Thompson went back outside and found Stephens laying flat on a slide with a piece of twine wrapped around his neck. The boy wasn’t breathing, so Thompson called 911 and attempted CPR. Unfortunately, Stephens would die in his mother’s arms at the hospital the following day.…

Jordan MorlanLOUISVILLE, KY – A 16-year-old died on Sunday after trying to pull a Halloween prank and accidentally hanged himself in his front yard.

Jordan Morlan had spent all day Sunday hanging up Halloween decorations, when he decided to scare his little sister by pretending to be hanging from a noose he’d put in a tree in the front yard. His stunt worked a little too well.

According to the coroner, Morlan became disoriented after the noose cut off oxygen to his brain within 20 to 30 seconds and, as he’d planned, his little sister found him hanging from the tree. She alerted their mother, who was rushed outside but was unable to cut her son down. What a friggin’ nightmare.

Morlan was rushed to the hospital in a coma and placed on a ventilator until his organs began failing. He died 12 hours later. LMPD homicide detectives have determined Morlan’s death was a tragic accident.

Morlan’s mother said her son, a sophomore honor student at Fern Creek High School, loved to play pranks and loved Halloween.…

open windowGonzales, LA – A three-year-old boy died on Sunday after he wandered away from his home and got his head trapped inside a partially open car window.

The boy’s family told investigators that the toddler wandered out of the house without any of the adults in the house knowing. After just a few minutes, the adults realized he was missing and started looking for him.

He was found hanging by the neck from the partially opened window of a Chevy Lumina parked outside. When responders arrived, the boy had already been removed from the window. He was rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead at 7:30 p.m.

The boy wasn’t tall enough to put his head through the opening and would have needed to climb on something to reach the window, deputies said. Sheriff’s Office detectives are still investigating the death.…

Joel MoralesNew York, NY – The family of Joel Morales, the 12-year-old boy who hanged himself last year over constant bullying, are now suing the boys that allegedly bullied him.

Morales’ mother, Lisbeth Babilonia, has filed suit against the city of New York, the Board of Education and the boys she says bullied her son to death – named in the suit as Kenneth, Stephen, Omar and Elijah ‘Doe’, along with the boys’ parents

According to the suit, Joel’s small size and fragile nature made him a perfect target for school bullies. “Joel was a small-framed fragile boy who sometimes stuttered and had problems with fine motor skills. He was extremely short and underweight for his age,” the suit says.

His family says they complained to the Department of Education multiple times a week to have something done about the constant harassment Joel was experiencing at Public School 102.

“He told me about it many times,” Babilonia said. “I went to school and spoke with the teacher, spoke with the assistant principal, with the principal.…

Katelyn ArnoldRAGLAND, AL – Last year I reported on John Salers, the 15-year-old charged with murder after he hanged 9-year-old Katelynn Arnold from a tree. On Wednesday, Salers was charged as an adult.

When Katelynn Arnold did not return home from a neighborhood bike ride, her aunt drove around looking for her for 45 minutes. She found the little girl when she returned home, hanging by her neck from a tree in the backyard.

Rescuers removed the girl from the tree but she was pronounced dead at the hospital. The next day, police would arrest Katelynn’s half-brother, John Salers, and charge him with murder.

Salers admitted to police that he hanged Katelynn, using the rope from a tire swing, with the intent of killing her. According to the sheriff, he has provided them with a possible motive behind wanting to kill Katelynn, but that information has yet to be revealed to the public.

Salers was initially charged as a minor, but District Attorney Richard Minor’s office sought to have him charged as an adult.…

MoondogsATLANTA, GA – A cleaning crew got a nasty surprise when they walked into an Atlanta bar this morning and found a dead man hanging from an outside security fence.

The crew arrived at Moondogs at around 7:30 when they found the unidentified man’s body. Atlanta police believe the man was attempting to rob the bar when he climbed over a fence.

There is only a clearance of six or seven inches between the top of the fence and the ceiling of the patio and it seems the man got stuck in a way that asphyxiated him.

“It appears that he got hung up on his neck. That’s why we’re saying possible asphyxiation. Exact cause of death is pending on the autopsy,” said Homicide Commander Paul Guerucci

This isn’t the first time we’ve featured a would-be burglar accidentally killing themselves while attempting to rob someone. In 2012, Robert Edward Powell died after he broke into a vacant home and proceeded to take a fatal header down the basement stairs.…

ClotheslineMINNEAPOLIS, MN — A 9-year-old boy was found hanging from a clothesline behind an abandoned home last Thursday. Minneapolis police are now calling the boy’s death suspicious and think the kids he was playing with that afternoon may know what happened.

Neighbors found the boy with a rope around his neck and hanging from a clothesline in the backyard of an abandoned home. His feet were dragging the ground, but he was already limp and unresponsive by time they were able to get him down and remove the clothesline that had been wrapped around his neck. Police and paramedics arrived on the scene within minutes, but the boy never regained consciousness and was pronounced dead Monday night.

Then next day, community activists were in the neighborhood talking to the kids. Police also interviewed people in the area, including other children they feel know what happened to the boy, who was visiting from Georgia with his family.

“It is my understanding is that he was playing with a group of kids that were 7 and 8 years old, possible some older kids.…
