Neglecting in the Name of God

“Faith healing.” A goddamn oxymoron, if you ask me. Over the last couple of decades, it is estimated that hundreds of children have met their demise due to such practices. Despite this, as many as 30 states have legislation exempting parents who neglect their children by failing to seek medical treatment for them on religious grounds. This legislation, much of which was instituted back in the 1970s, has been tested in recent years, resulting in a handful of states repealing the laws and others yet scaling it back in cases of criminal mistreatment and manslaughter. But these are empty gestures if recent sentencing in faith healing cases is any measure. [Read more...]

Posting To You Live…From The Gulag

Here at Dreamin’ Demon, we’ve been known to use some pretty harsh language when it comes to the business of exposing and shaming some of society’s more pathetic and depraved individuals. Some might even qualify the articles our authors compose as “intimidating,” or intending to “cause substantial emotional distress to a person.” Oh, if only we could know for sure that we were causing substantial emotional distress to the criminals featured on our front page… But I digress. In light of the notorious Megan Meier suicide, brought on by the harassment she received via MySpaceMySpaceMySpace at the hands of a group of catty chicks, Rep. Linda Sanchez of Los Angeles has introduced a bill that would make this practice illegal. [Read more...]

There’s An App For That

There’s An App For That

I am increasingly amazed by the variety of applications the people over at Apple have made available for their Iphone. Do you want to identify a bird? There’s an app for that. Search for sex offenders in your area? There’s an app for that. Shake a baby to death? There’s an app for that, too – or at least, there was. [Read more...]

Play Doctor, Go To Jail?

About a month ago, a story emerged about an 11 year old girl being charged with three counts of rape for sexual contact she made with three children – two boys and one girl – under the age of 10. Officials in Ohio believe she is the youngest perpetrator they’ve ever had. Rhonda Hinkle of Muskingum County Children’s Services says they’re seeing an increase in the number of children who are committing sex crimes. Like you’d expect, it’s being termed “an alarming trend”. Hinkle blames “technology” (surprise, surprise) and “blended families” – whatever that’s supposed to mean – for exposing children to behaviors and values they wouldn’t have held otherwise.

But it begs the question: Is the alarming trend the behavior of the children, or how it’s regarded by adults?

Who Needs Gun Control?

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

We are approaching the 10-year anniversary of Columbine and the two-year anniversary of the Virginia Tech shootings. On top of that, within the last few weeks, we have had a shooter kill 13 people in New York, Six people were shot dead in an apparent murder-suicide at a home in Silicon Valley neighborhood, Pittsburgh lost 3 police officers responding to a domestic dispute, and a shooter shot and killed eight people in a NC nursing home. As is usually the case with these types of stories, the issue of gun ownership will always come up, and the debate – between people calling for stricter gun laws and the people who feel gun ownership is a right granted by our forefathers – rages on.

Sexting Laws: Forward Or Delete?

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

I was talking with a friend of mine about the realization of not having many old photos of any of us as teenagers to put up on our FacebookFacebookFacebook page that we, like a lot of other people approaching middle-aged, have begun to invade. But then we decided that this was actually a blessing as we would not want pictures of some of the shit we did out there for the world to see. Because you know what? Had we had cameras around at our fingertips the way kids do today, we probably WOULD have snapped some unsavory pictures that could one day, come back to bite us in the ass.

Teenage Girls Are Stupid

Rihanna on dreamindemon.com

We didn’t report on the Chris BrownChris Brown reviewsChris Brown reviews, Rhianna incident that I am sure you have heard about by now. You know, the one in which Chris “punched her in the left eye with his right hand. He then drove away in the vehicle and continued to punch her in the face with his right hand while steering the vehicle with his left hand. ” We did not cover it because at the time, we did not officially cover celebrity stories. But this post isn’t about the crime itself as much as it is the ramifications of the incident, and the actions of the participants afterward. “She probably made him mad for him to react like that,” said a 9th grade girl at a Bronx high school, a comment that appears to mark a widespread sentiment. “So he shouldn’t get into trouble if she doesn’t feel that way,” another said in response to the fact that Rihanna quickly took back her abuser, Chris Brown, after the savage beating he delivered the night before the Grammys. Little abused wives in the making? I think so.

Florida to Preggers: “Roll to the Right”

fetussuckingthumb2 Florida to Preggers: Roll to the Right

A Florida House Committee is trying to get a bill passed that would require women to take mug shots of the offending tyke before having them vacuumed out.  The idea is that it is unfair to the pictorial process that other capital punishment victims go through to allow these fetuses to ’skirt’ the ordeal. However, I could be reading the story incorrectly.  This may also be a ploy by right-to-lifers who think that seeing the salamander growing in her tummy will avert the slaughter being waged by pre-teens and rape victims across our country.  If that is the idea, much good could come of this.
