Casselberry, FL – Nioshka Bello is considered by neighbors to be an excellent and doting mother. That’s weird, because based on the fact that her mugshot and story are being featured here on the Dreamin’ Demon, you gotta figure that the chick is lacking in the most basic of parenting skills. Nioshka used to have a 2-year-old daughter named Janessa Sandoval, who, according to neighbors, was very well kept, doted upon, and happy. That happy little girl is dead – her mommy strangled her with a bra. Yes, Nioshka managed to rid this earth of one more toddler, but failed miserably when it came to taking her own life.

Nioshka later admitted to strangling the toddler with a bra and her own hands, but failed to explain why. She also failed to explain why it took 12 whole hours to report the child’s death to anyone. According to the arrest affidavit, after calling 911 to report the death of her child, Nioshka attempted to take her own life by downing 20 Benadryl tablets and some Tylenol. Nioshka was sent to the hospital in critical condition – Janessa was sent to the coroner.

Responding officers noted that Nioshka seemed to be detached and disinterested in the condition of her daughter. Neighbors, however, say that when she was taken from the apartment, she looked distraught. Neighbors think Nioshka OD’d because she was upset and not because she did anything wrong. Well of course she’s upset! She just ruined a perfectly good piece of lingerie with a toddler’s throat. Duh…

According to Nioshka’s mother, she has a history of (obviously failed) suicide attempts – the last time she tried to off herself was in high school. (You would think that after 2 or 3 tries you would be able to succeed). Instead of opting for 20 Benadryl tablets and some Tylenol, Nioshka should have opted to go the same route she chose for her daughter – death by bra. Or better yet, death by speeding semi-truck.

Dallas, TX – Most of us have been through it.  The end of a serious relationship or marriage.  You know, things didn’t work out and its time to cut your losses and split.  Some of us don’t part ways on good terms.  You know how it can be, your every waking minute is consumed with thoughts of revenge, plotting and scheming on how you can make them pay.  Wondering which cables belong to the brakes and exactly how much damage a brick to the back of the skull will actually cause.  Pondering exactly how tamper proof those pesky tamper proof seals are, and googling their drive from home to work every day.  You’ll show him that you don’t take these things lightly.  Besides, his taste in music and movies suck and he was lucky you ever gave him the time of day… Wait, what was I talking about?  Oh yeah, bad break-ups and thoughts of revenge.  Point is, we never do it.  As much as we want them to hurt, we once loved them and those pesky good memories always get in the way. Right?  Well, not for every one.  When Gary Green found out that his wife, Lovetta Armstead was seeking  divorce, he decided everyone had to die, including her innocent children.

Green and Armstead had been in a relationship and living together for 2 years.  She had three children from previous relationships, 12 and 9 year old boys and a 6 year old girl, Jazzman Montgomery.  they had recently married in June, but Armstead was not happy for one reason or another and decided to file for divorce.  Green’s MySpace has him listed as married and includes a slide show almost entirely made up of pictures of him and Armstead.  Armstead’s MySpace, which she logged into the day she died however, has herself listed as Single and other than Green being her #1 friend, has no signs of him anywhere else. Yeah, if my significant other lists themselves as single, you can pretty much take it that I am considering myself dumped.

Monday evening, Armstead dropped the two boys off at church and returned home with Jazzmen.  Green, who had a criminal past, thought he had moved out, convinced her to allow him to get back into the house because his parole officer was going to check on him.  When she arrived home that evening, Armstead found Green waiting for her.  Green attacked her and stabbed her to death and then went after the tiny 6 year old.  The thought of that baby watching her mother die and then having this huge psycho fuck come after her is heart wrenching.  The thought of the fear she must have felt is almost too much for me to bear.  Needless to say, Jazzmen was no match for the monster and was also stabbed to death.

After he was done at the house, he went to the church and picked up the two boys.  Once he got them into the house, he told the 12 year old to take a shower, more than likely to get him out of the way.  It isn’t unfair to assume that this cowardly bastard thought the 12 year old might be a threat.  Green then proceeded to attack the 9 year old, stabbing him in the stomach.  At some point, the 12 year old came back onto the scene, Green forced them into a back room to look at the dead bodies of ther mother and sister.   They were somehow able to convince him not to kill them.  Even though the 9 year old was seriously injured, the 12 year old did not suffer any physical harm.  When Green left, the 12 year old ran next door for help.

After fleeing the scene, in true pussy fashion, Green attempted to overdose and kill himself.  He didn’t try hard enough though, the asshole is still alive.  What a fuck up.  He called his mother and she convinced him to turn himself in.

Green has been charged with capital murder, with other charges pending and is being held on a $1 million bond.  Let him rot.

Westminster, CA – “Hi. I just stabbed my daughters and myself.” Those were the words spoken by 38-year-old Thuy Le, very calmly I might add, after getting all stabby on her two kiddos Wednesday morning. “It’s all bloody,” she said. The 911 dispatcher, a little taken aback by Le’s somewhat relaxed demeanor, asked Le why she was so calm. I guess that usually, after going completely off the deep end and poking at your spawn with sharp pointy things, most people are a little more freaked out. Le replied, somewhat snottily, “What? Oh my god. Are you coming?” Yep. They were coming. When police arrived on the scene, they found Le clutching her bloody 3-year-old daughter. Worse, they found Le’s other daughter, just 5-years-old, unconscious, covered in blood, and suffering a stab wound to the chest. 

Le’s cousin, Toan Pham, woke to the sound of screaming kiddos at about 6:30 that morning – Le and the two girls had spent the night on Pham’s living room floor. Pham first encountered the 5-year-old and asked her why she was bleeding and crying. The little girl, unable to speak, couldn’t give him an answer. He then found a bloodied Le holding her youngest daughter. It then became clear – Le stabbed the little ones and attempted to stab herself. “We don’t know why this happened,” Pham said. “My cousin really loves her children. There is no way I could have ever imagined this could happen.” (If you listen the the 911 call in it’s entirety, you can hear exactly when Pham and his wife appeared in the living room).

Le admitted to stabbing the children and scratching herself up a bit. The motive isn’t exactly clear right now – could be marital issues, could be financial issues, could be mental issues. Could be she’s just an attention whore and/or bitch. Le’s 5-year-old daughter suffered a deep wound directly to her heart. She is now in a medically induced coma. The 3-year-old child is in stable condition with numerous but superficial slash wounds, as is Le. When released from the hospital, she will be charged with attempted murder.

Quincy, Massachusetts – “City of Legends”and “Birthplace of the American Dream” are just a couple examples of nicknames for this historic community in the Southeastern part of the state. The city is divided up into many different established neighborhoods with individual histories and characteristics. Scrolling through the names and descriptions of these sections, one clearly gets a great sense of pride and community spirit. No where could I find the area that might house the uber rich or the extremely impoverished. I’m pretty sure they’re not closely mixed though. Where do the really twisted fuckers live in Quincy and what do they do to get their jollies off in such a stodgy town? The closest I could come to answering that question was the story of Joseph Beatty and his little experiment with necrophilia.

Oh yeah. I was excited to come across this sick fuck. We’ve got a little bit of everything encompassed here:  domestic violence, strangulation, blood, a knife, attempted suicide, and a body devoid of life that had been screwed.  Joseph Beatty is a plethora of unbelievable news.

Neighbors of his victim, 33 year-old Mary Beaton, state loud arguments were not an uncommon sound emitting from her apartment as it seemed as though she and Joseph must have had a lot to say to each other and subconsciously wanted witnesses. The arguments were loud and sounded violent. And per witness accounts, the neighbor’s fears were realized when Mary Beaton was found dead in her apartment.

Police received a call from Boston Medical Center where Joseph’s sister was sitting at his side as he was recovering from a suicide attempt. Police found and searched his vehicle and they recovered a bloody knife he is believed to have used to harm himself. He also allegedly told the tale of strangling his girlfriend in her apartment, laying her on the bed, removing all of her clothes and screwing her. Nice. Touching. He’s all remorseful now though. And despite his touch of mental issues, he’s really a nice guy and would do anything for anyone. Yes, they’re already saying it. But he’s a thoughtful psycho…after he was all finished, he removed two crucifixes and placed one on each side of her head.

Although the authorities are awaiting autopsy results, Joseph Beatty is being held in conjunction with her death. But he’s so nice. How sad.

Gary, IN - Have I mentioned lately how much I hate people? Really – I do. Especially people like Cordell Richardson. When the mother of his child mentioned that she would be moving out of state and taking the kiddo with her, Cordell came unhinged. Instead of taking it like a man, he threw a ginormous hissy fit – telling a friend that, “nobody is going to take my daughter away.” After spending a day with his daughter, 18-month-old Eboni Richardson, Cordell refused to give the child back to her mother. After much begging and pleading with the asshole to return the child, Cordell agreed to meet with his brother-in-law, Jamell Campbell, in the parking lot of a Bennigan’s restaurant Thursday evening, to transfer custody of Eboni. As Jamell approached Cordell’s vehicle, he saw a flash and heard two gunshots. Yep. One for Eboni and one for Cordell. Little Eboni was shot in the stomach and was later pronounced dead at the hospital. Cordell, unfortunately, survived the bullet to his head and remains hospitalized in intensive care. And honestly, I hope he fully recovers and continues to live a long life. I’d love to think that he will be haunted by the face of his dead baby girl every single hour of every single day for the next 50-60 years. Cordell Richardson, 22, if convicted on the murder charge, faces up to 65 years in prison.

St. Paul, Minnesota Unless you live under a rock with no television, radio, get no newspapers, etc. you’ve heard about the “King of Pop’s” timely demise. (oops, damn typos) The media’s coverage of crying/fainting hoards of people flocking to and fro to get a glimpse of the glitterati browsing for the appropriate clothing to wear, or perhaps the brothers shopping for one white sequined glove to carry his final chariot, has been enough to make me want to break my TV. The talk of a memorial service at the Neverland Ranch brought that 4 syllable location back into the forefront and young children asking their parents, “What’s Neverland?” And if any parents were like Patricia Becht, they tried to give a sense of peace while plotting the murder of their children at that very location.

Patricia Becht’s 16 year-old daughter attempted to phone her mother repeatedly to no avail but did make contact with Patricia’s niece and asked her to run by their home to check on her mother and 2 younger siblings. Upon arriving, the doors were locked and the niece gained entrance through an opened window. Even though Patricia had allegedly told her niece a few weeks prior that she was going to lock her children in the garage to kill them, I imagine her discovery left the next moments frozen in time. Michael, 10 and autistic was unconscious, Erica (11) was semiconscious, and their poor sick mommy Patricia was puking in the bathroom. And then the suicide note was found.

The suicide note, penned for her 16 year-old to discover along with the dead bodies of her mother, brother, and sister, said something to the order of, sorry – can’t take you with us…but we’ll be at peace and ‘happy to be gone’. Nice. I’m not real sure how Patricia thought this wouldn’t totally fuck her daughter up for life but at least she’s still around to think about that every day for the rest of hers…and I hope it eats her alive. She obviously failed the two children she promised to take with her as well. She had discussed the perfect place to die:  Neverland Ranch. She explained to them “Neverland was a place for kids to go – similar to heaven.” According to an interview conducted with Patricia, she discussed going to Neverland with her children as part of their suicide plan.

Little Michael was found dead in his home, Erica was rushed to the hospital where she is expected to recover. Neighbors witnessing the ugly turn of events said of Patricia, “They didn’t rush her off like they did the daughter.” According to the criminal complaint, Patricia gave each child 10 tablets of Seroquel, a medication used to treat bi-polar disorder and schizophrenia. She dosed herself with 25 tablets of mommy’s little helper. (According to the manufacturer’s literature, Seroquel fatal overdoses are very rare) It’s sweet Patricia assisted in making Michael another statistic.

After interviewing Patricia Becht via her hospital visit, enough evidence was gleaned from her personal account (and evidence of pill bottles through the house) that authorities planned a welcome home party upon her release. I love it when police protect and serve. She was charged Friday with first-degree premeditated murder for the death of her son and with the attempted first-degree murder of her daughter. The judge ordered a psychiatric evaluation for Becht and set bail at $1 million without conditions or $750,000 with conditions. The evaluation is suppose to take place within the next 60 days. Fuck. She’ll plead insanity and everyone will buy it cause who in their right mind would plan to take their children to Neverland Ranch?

Chandler, AZ – I’m assuming everyone has heard of the “Darwin Awards“.  The actual awards are given to those who have taken themselves out of the gene pool by ridiculous and more often than not, preventable accidents. In other words, idiots who remove all doubt.  ”Honorable mentions” are awarded to the survivors. Folks, we have ourselves a fine candidate for “honorable mention”. Nathan Ryan, obviously at wit’s end with his life, decided upon a well-laid suicide plan, McGyver style. Armed with a 24″ sword, a tee shirt and a motor vehicle, he set his plan in action.

Here’s where it gets technical.The handle of the sword was butted up against the instrument panel of his car with the rest running through the steering column. Ryan, (27) the Mesa MENSA, tied the blade in place utilizing his tee shirt and scouted a neighborhood for a solid target. His plan:  ram his car into a wall which would thrust him forward thus driving the sword through his body.

What he lacked:  brains.

The object he chose to hit was a blocked fence surrounding a backyard swimming pool. His car rammed through the wall, the airbag deployed and bent the shit out of the sword. What did he get out of the deal?  Wet…and a nick to his neck. He was taken to the hospital with injuries which are not life threatening.

Nathan, I’m hoping someone sets you before a computer and you end up here. I’m sure our readers may have a few suggestions for your next excellent adventure.

Jessica Marie Clyburn (Myspace)

Rock Hill, SC–Jessica Clyburn, 22, has some issues. In August of 2008, Jessica took a flying leap from five stories up. She landed on a canopy, a canvas awning,  four stories down. At the time, Jessica was 8-months pregnant. She survived the suicide attempt…the baby didn’t. Jessica jumped out of the window because she feared her live-in boyfriend, the baby’s father, was going to leave her.

Yes, Jessica has some issues. She is bi-polar and suffers from epilepsy. She seems almost desperate to find true love. I looked at her Myspace and my first thought was ‘attention whore.’ There is no shortage of pictures of Jessica and she even graces us with her ass, which bears a scar from her suicide attempt. But, is she a murderer?

Six months after Jessica’s leap, she is being charged with homicide by child abuse. It took six months to charge her because police were waiting on forensics evidence…the forensics report confirmed the baby died in the fall. Jessica is being held without bond at Moss Justice Center in York.

The S.C. Supreme Court ruled in 1997 that a fetus able to survive outside the womb is considered a person under child-abuse and neglect laws. That threshold is generally around 25 weeks. Knowing that, tell me, do you feel she is deserving of the charge? Or should charges be dropped?

Silvia Garcia

Deerfield Beach, FL–Sabrina Garcia, 6, holding her cut wrist, told authorities, ‘I was sleeping with my mom and then she cut me with a knife, but I know she didn’t mean to do it.’ Her mother, 40-year-old Silvia Garcia, in a fit of resentment and jealousy, slashed her child’s wrist and thigh in an attempt to kill the child before taking her own life. Silvia’s murder-suicide attempt failed and now she is being charged with attempted murder.

Ivin Garcia returned home from work in the early morning hours of February 9th, and found his daughter Sabrina lying in her bed, covered in blood. She had been slashed on the wrist and at the right femoral artery, located in her inner thigh. Silvia was found in another room, incoherent, with self-inflicted cuts to her wrist, groin, and neck area. Deputies found a blood-stained kitchen knife in the bathroom of the master bedroom where Silvia was found.

The Garcia’s were experiencing trouble in their marriage. The two had been discussing divorce. Silvia had threatened suicide in the past, but Ivin still planned to carry out the divorce and move on. Ivin had a new girlfriend and wanted to start a new life with her, so he moved out. Ivin returned to the home, 10 days prior to the incident, for the sake of his daughter. Things weren’t working out…he told Silvia that he planned to move out again. That was the trigger. Silvia, selfish cunt that she is, told investigators she tried to kill her child because ’she didn’t want the girl to come into contact with her husband’s new girlfriend’. Thankfully, she failed.

Silvia Garcia, who has no previous record for child abuse, is now being charged with attempted murder and aggravated child abuse. Sabrina is said to be recovering from her injuries.

Port St. Lucie, FL–Not only is 31-year-old Eryn Allegra a selfish bitch, she’s a cold-hearted bitch. She planned and carried out the murder of her 8-year-old son, Tristan Allegra. She took away his life in the early morning hours of Christmas day in what authorities are calling a botched murder-suicide.

Eryn was unemployed and broke. She lost her home last year to foreclosure. She’d been struggling financially for quite some time. She had been contemplating suicide for months. She just didn’t feel like living any more. The only problem was, she didn’t want to leave her son behind. So, she started to plan his death.

Eryn made a reservation at a local Holiday Inn a week prior to Christmas. She treated Tristan to one last dinner on Christmas Eve. She somehow managed to convince him to swallow eight Advil tablets. She wasn’t sure whether or not that dosage of pain reliever would kill her son, so she had a back-up plan in place.

A couple hours after Tristan fell asleep, Eryn smothered him. She took a pillow in her right hand, his head in her left hand, and she pushed that pillow into his face. For 15 minutes she had that pillow smashed into his face. Tristan didn’t sleep through the whole attack, survival instinct kicked in and he started to resist. She watched as her son struggled to breathe. She watched his legs kicking and his arms flailing. Eryn ‘wanted to make sure that Tristan was not going to wake up and have some type of disability due to the amount of medications she gave him.’ Oh, how fuckin’ considerate.

After making sure that Tristan was good and dead, Eryn says she made her way into the bathroom where she tried to slit her wrists. The razor blades were too dull. Well shit, so much for murder-suicide! She called 911. Eryn was taken to St. Lucie Medical Center, where she was treated for minor cuts to her wrists and arms. She didn’t put nearly as much energy into her own death as she did her child’s.

After her release from the hospital, Eryn Allegra was booked into St. Lucie County Jail and charged with first-degree murder.

There were many people who would have stepped up to care for Tristan. Eryn’s relatives wanted to spend time with Tristan…they begged her to allow them visits with him. Tristan’s father, Michael Allegra, was scheduled to be released from jail this week. He had been serving time for a probation violation on a  drug charge.

She had other avenues, other choices. And I don’t believe for one minute that she was going to commit suicide. If she had the balls to watch her son die, by her own hand, right in front of her eyes, she should have had the balls to keep working those razor blades. Bitch. Tristan didn’t deserve that.

Warren, MI – Tanya Laura Friedly, 32, tried to kill herself and her two children on Tuesday.  And if not for the quick action of Friedly’s 13-year-old son, she probably would have succeeded.   After pulling her kids out of school Tuesday morning, Friedly made the kids hot chocolate laced with prescription drugs.  She then left her son and ten-year-old daughter in the downstairs living room, went upstairs, and set the house on fire.

Tuesday morning was weird for Friedly’s two kids even before the fire.  They left for school as usual, but their mother showed up by around 10:00 a.m. to pick them up, saying that both children had doctor’s appointments.  But once they left school, Friedly said she just wanted to spend some time with the kids and took them home, where she made them hot chocolate and acted a little strangely, telling her son she was going to “go to Heaven”.

Friedly’s little girl drank her hot chocolate, but the young teenager didn’t finish his and put it down once his mother left the room.  I don’t know if it tasted funny or if his hinky meter got tripped by his mom’s odd behavior, or if he just got lucky.  But that move probably saved all their lives, as Tanya Friedly went upstairs and lit her bed on fire.  Then she waited for the flames to engulf her home, her children, and herself.

Smoke rises upwards, usually, but once it fills a room it will travel down halls and stairways.  Still, though, a fire started from above a person will kill them slower and more painfully than a fire started below them, because smoke inhalation hits from a fire set low.  I don’t know if Tanya Friedly knew she was dooming her children to an intensely painful, slow death that way, but more likely she was just an inept arsonist.

Friedly’s son smelled smoke, and then saw it.  He was pretty looped on the hot chocolate, but not too far gone to think.  This kid got himself and his sister, who was quite lethargic but till conscious, out of the home.  He then called 911 on his cell phone, and adult neighbors wouldn’t let the boy go back in to get his mother – instead, they went inside and got her out.  She’d already decided not to die and had made her way to the first floor of the home.

All three Friedlys were taken to hospitals.  Our young hero was evaluated and released, but his little sister was transferred to a Detroit hospital for further evaluation because she had ingested a pretty big dose of whatever it was in that hot chocolate and needed to be watched.  I don’t have information on whether she’s out yet.  The boy is now in the care of family members.

The motive seems to be that Friedly was depressed about losing her job and having financial problems. I can understand the desperation that can come in a financial crisis – but I cannot understand killing one’s children.  If she felt the need to off herself, she could have done that without ever going up to the school for those kids.  The selfishness of suicide is bad enough.  To try to take her kids with her, and by fire… wow.  I just don’t have the words for that level of wrong.

Tanya Laura Friedly was arrested on Tuesday night at a hospital, where she was kept briefly for observation.  She has been charged with two counts of assault with intent to murder and one count of arson and is being held on a million dollars bond.

Pomona, CA – Edgar Manuel Sanchez was five years old.  He’d done nothing wrong.  But that didn’t stop his mother, Josie Navarro, from drowning him in a hotel bathtub on Monday.   Police were called to the Pomona hotel by a desk clerk, who said that they had been notified that a woman in one of the rooms was trying to kill herself.

Police arrived to find Navarro being held down by a man in the room.  The man, whose name has not been released, apparently happened upon Navarro trying to overdose on over-the-counter sleeping pills in what has to be the most inept suicide attempt I’ve ever seen.  I don’t know if she left the door open to the room, or what, but trying to off yourself in view of passersby is hardly an effective way to exit the planet.

Unfortunately, the man was apparently unaware of little Edgar, who was in the bathroom, underwater.  Police clearing the room found the five year old submerged, pulled him out, and began CPR.  But it was too late – arriving paramedics ran a full code and took Edgar to the hospital anyway, but he was dead on arrival.  His mother had drowned him in the tub before staging her own lame suicide attempt.

Navarro was treated at a hospital for her ineffective overdose and then transferred to the Pomona Jail, where she told investigators that she was just really upset at the way her life was going, and decided to kill herself and take her son with her.  Nevermind that Edgar has a father who could have taken him – that didn’t seem a good alternative to Josie, so she held her little boy underwater for the minutes it takes to kill a child.

Drowning is a violent death.  It is painful and extremely scary – the brain has a panic button of sorts that kicks in during rapid oxygen deprivation.  No doubt Josie Navarro had to struggle with little Edgar to hold him down.  If she just had to kill him, why couldn’t she have OD’d him on the sleep meds she was trying to take?  Oh yeah.  Because she probably knew the over-the-counter drugs wouldn’t kill him.

Edgar’s father was not present when Josie Navarro killed his son, but he and his family have now been notified of Edgar’s murder.

I call shenanigans on attempted suicide.  I think she was tired of her kid and ready to move on without him – and this way, she can set up a mental impairment defense, get a free public defender, and walk out of jail.  I just hope that a jury is smarter than that.

Josie Navarro is being arraigned today in Pomona Superior Court on charges of murder and assault on a child resulting in death.  She is currently held without bond in the Pomona Jail.

The Pomona police are so affected by Edgar’s death that they have started a fund for his funeral and burial expenses.  Anyone wishing to donate can mail a donation to the Pomona Police Department, 490 W. Mission Blvd. Checks should be made out to “PPOA” with a notation on the bottom – “Edgar Sanchez fund.”

Paterson, NJ - I have no idea what Gloria Arroyo was thinking last night.  Neither, apparently, does anyone else.   Seven-month-old Jose Bell Jr., called “Baby 8″ or “Ocho”, was dead when police arrived at Arroyo’s home at about 10:30 last night.    Gloria Arroyo, 18, called “Pichy” (like “peachy”), had stabbed her son multiple times to the chest and turned the knife on herself.  She’s not dead, but her baby sure is. 

“Pichy” is a teenage mother living with her babydaddy’s family.  She and Jose Bell Sr., the babydaddy in question, had been having problems for awhile and had separated.  At 8:00 last night, Arroyo was on the porch of the family home, playing with her son like nothing was wrong.   Less than three hours later, baby Ocho was dead in a pool of blood on the couch, and Arroyo was covered in blood from multiple self-inflicted stab wounds to the chest and abdomen.

There were several family members in and around the home at the time of the stabbing, and it’s being described by family as what amounts to a temper tantrum.  Arroyo got into an argument with Jose Bell Sr., grabbed a knife, and stabbed their infant son Ocho repeatedly in the chest.  Then, as Bell grabbed his son and tried to stop the bleeding, Arroyo turned the knife on herself.

When help arrived, it was already too late for baby Ocho.   Gloria “Pichy” Arroyo was taken to St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center in Paterson under police custody.  When she is released, she will be charged with the murder of her infant son.

So what the HELL was she thinking?  Her Myspace, linked above, really doesn’t offer much in the way of clues – or in the way of pictures of her son.  Although she lists Phoenix, Arizona, as her location, she clearly wasn’t there, and all her top friends are from Paterson as well.  There’s no real hint as to her family – where they were, whether they knew she was mercurial and prone to violence.  Was she suffering from post-partum depression, or did she just lose her temper and kill her baby?   I don’t know, but I’m hoping some of her friends and family will come clue us in.

Edit:  The news reports today (8/1/08) are now saying that the family “awoke to hear her stabbing herself” around 11 p.m. and then they just found the baby, and that Jose Bell Sr. was not in the home at the time, but arrived shortly thereafter and tried to stop the baby’s bleeding at that time.  They also say Ocho was six months old, not seven months.  I don’t know which story is correct, so I thought I’d better publish both of them – but this new story sounds a bit revisionist to me, so I’m leaving up the one from hours after the stabbing.  As of today, Pichy remains in the hospital, and her son remains dead.

North Andover, Mass. - Diruhi Mattian was making a therapeutic house call last night when things went very wrong. A little after 6 p.m., someone from Thomas Belanger’s apartment called 911. Belanger, 18, had stabbed his psychotherapist in the torso and then attempted to slit his own throat. Mattian, 53, was pronounced dead a short time later. Belanger is in the hospital and is expected to survive.

Diruhi Mattian was director of the Lawrence FLEX program, which is funded by the state Department of Mental Health Child and Adolescent Services. Its website says that “The services are primarily aimed at keeping the children safely at home with their families, in their community, out of residential programs and away from hospital care.” Mattian, a licensed clinical social worker, also ran her own non-profit organization called Aved Therapy that dealt mainly with panic and anxiety-based disorders.

Investigators working the scene are focusing their attention in an area between the living room and kitchen of the small apartment, which is listed under the names Elaine and Cassandra Belanger. Cassandra Belanger, Thomas’ sister, was at home at the time of the killing and is the likely 911 caller. Police have also taken a computer from the home and towed two vehicles from the scene, a white Toyota Corolla and a white Chevrolet sedan with Jesus and pro-life stickers.

Belanger has been formally charged with murder and is expected to be arraigned sometime today.

This is a sad one, and kind of funny in a tragic way. 61-year-old Howard Koern was not a very happy man it seems. Living in a rented trailer with is sick dog, Pookie, Howard decided he had enough. So he ripped the gas line from his water heater and reportedly laid back and waited for a nice, peaceful death. Unfortunately, something sparked the gas that had filled the trailer and created and explosion that demolished the trailer and threw debris 50 to 100 feet.

“There are pieces of mini-blind hanging from a tree next to where a trailer used to be. It’s impressive.” Palisade Police Department Sgt. Bobby Fowler said.

Forunately or unfortunately, Howard and the dog walked away from the trailer, well, Howard did, the dog is too ill to walk. He carried the dog. Howard had no injuries aside from some singed hair. Neighbors say that Keown moved to Palisade from California about three years ago with his dog. The dog, a mixed breed described as a shepherd-type dog, had been ill for some time and Keown had been hand-feeding the dog and carrying her outside when she had to go to the bathroom.

Keown had his dog in his arms as he sat in a neighbor’s house waiting for police and firefighters to arrive, according to a neighbor who asked to not be identified. “He was sitting there crying about it,” the neighbor said. “He kept saying, ‘I’m sorry, girl. I’m sorry. You know I love you.’ ”

Keown was later booked into the Mesa County Jail on suspicion of first-degree arson, criminal mischief and reckless endangerment. Mesa County Animal Services picked up the dog around 10 a.m.

So, not only did he fail a suicide attempt, poor Howard is now homeless, in jail and without his dog.
