Click here to listen to the fake 911 call placed by Melissa Farris. Pretty elaborate. I mean she even made up the fact that she was a cattle truck driver. But investigators say was near the  Canyon County Paramedic Building at the time she made this call. The plan to get the two employees she knew out of the building so that she could then get in the building worked pretty good. Sucks about the timing, though. Or maybe it wasn’t a timing issue. Maybe she was not  aware that the safety sensors on the door are higher than a home garage door. Either way, I can only imagine there had to come a time when Melissa was fully aware that the gig was up and that her plan, whatever it was,  just went to total shit.

No word on why she was no longer employed as a paramedic, and no one is reporting on what her possible motive for entering the building could be. Any guesses? Sure, robbery is the first thing that comes to mind – but of what?  We have some EMT people here – if this wasn’t just some sort of personal thing, is there anything worth taking out of one of these places if the crew had left with the ambulance?

Willie Franklin

First responders were dispatched to the apartment of Willie Ervin Franklin III after he reported an unresponsive child. When they arrived, a neighbor was performing CPR on 4 month-old, Willie Ervin Franklin IV. While the responders were working on the child, the momma called and Willie told her lie #1, he woke up and the baby wasn’t breathing. Willie IV was pronounced dead at the hospital.

I mentioned lie #1. There were many more. Let’s run through the list and everyone take note of how many original excuses there are. He said he was feeding the baby and the baby went unconscious, he was taking the baby to the day care and tripped as the baby flew out of his hands and hit his head on the floor so he went back into the apartment, stripped the baby of his clothes and buried them out of fear, and finally – the baby hit his head as he rolled off the couch onto the carpeted floor. I’m not sure if it was the looks the cops were giving Willie or what it was that made him start crying. He finally stated the baby just wouldn’t shut up so he threw the baby bottle at his head which made him cry harder. Doh. Who would have imagined that?

After he allegedly chucked the bottle, wrapped the baby up in a quilt from head to toe, he rolled his son onto his belly on a pillow on the couch and marched into his bedroom to conduct a couple relaxation techniques. I thought smoking pot made people a bit paranoid but what the hell…Willie #3 smoked it up, got on the phone and called for help. Sort of. Help for himself cause obviously he couldn’t pull his pud without a little help from some sex line. There he is, high as hell, beating his meat to some fat dude with a high pitched voice. (I’m just making the dude up to fulfill a sick wish on my part)

Willie Ervin Franklin III (23) has been charged with second-degree manslaughter. And don’t worry, he’ll have plenty of opportunities masturbating to sex talk in the pen, I’m sure.

Prosecutors allege that the couple had been torturing and abusing poor Rene for at least a month, since July 18th. The horrible parents are being held on a one million dollar bail on suspicion of murder. Police spokeswoman Janet Pope Givens said, “Evidence was found that pointed to foul play,” and “Whether it was intentional or not, the child still died and it is being investigated as a homicide.” Diaz has prior convictions for possession of a switchblade knife, driving without a license, and driving at an unsafe speed. This article will of course be updated as new facts become available.

Juan Melendez-Reynoso

On May 24, Yvette’s mother decided to have a night out and went dancing. She left her Yvette and her two older brothers, a 3-year old and a 4-year old, with their long-time babysitter, Natalia Pineda. Sometime that evening, little Yvette soiled her diaper and began to cry. Pineda’s boyfriend, Juan Melendez-Reynoso, got pissed off , removed the soiled diaper from the child, and suffocated her with it. Instead of telling the truth, Pineda first told the police that Yvette bad been jumping on her bed, fell off and hit her head, but there was no evidence of a fatal fall. She also said that Melendez-Reynoso had helped her try to revive the girl in the shower.

At first, authorities believed there was strong evidence that a badly bruised girl was raped before she was killed, but autopsy results revealed no conclusive signs of sexual abuse. Juan Melendez-Reynoso was charged with first-degree murder and because he is an illegal resident from Mexico, which makes him a flight risk, his bail was denied. The DCFS has taken Melendez-Reynoso’s child into care. Oh, and that bitch of a babysitter, Pineda? She has not been charged with anything, yet.

Timothy Danielson

O’Fallon, MO–Wow…Timothy looks really scared in that mug shot, doesn’t he? Looks like he might bust out bawling at any second. And for good reason. He killed his 5-month-old son, Ayden Harley.

On January 15, Timothy Danielson, 24, called 911 to report that his son wasn’t breathing. Little Ayden was rushed to Children’s Hospital in St. Louis, where he was pronounced dead early Friday morning. Doctors noticed injuries consistent with physical abuse and the authorities were brought in.

In an interview with police, Danielson admitted to purposely harming Ayden by ‘restricting his breathing’. A nice way of saying the asshole smothered his child. He admitted to previous abuse of the child as well. In fact, a couple of witnesses came forward and stated that they had witnessed Danielson punching the child in the stomach in the past couple of months. They also said that Danielson would squeeze the baby tightly in anger. Police said that two of the baby’s relatives were present when the baby was injured.

Now…let’s back the fuck up for a minute. It’s bad enough that the child’s father abused and smothered him, no doubt. But, there were witnesses to previous abuse and nobody said a word until now? Nobody did anything after watching Ayden get punched in the gut by his father? Nobody? And these asswipes were related to the baby? Where was Ayden’s mother? Was she one of the witnesses? I do believe that there should be two more mug shots up there with Danielson’s.

Timothy Danielson did say he was sorry though. He realizes that he shouldn’t have taken his anger out on his son. Oooh, well in that case, all is forgiven, right? Wrong! Danielson is being held on $500,000 bond and is facing charges of second-degree murder. The charge doesn’t seem to fit the crime and I’m hoping that they slap a first-degree murder charge on him.

Danielson just completed nearly a year of probation in December, after being arrested for violation of an order of protection. He was arrested on that charge in May of 2007, entered a guilty plea in March of 2008, and placed on probation. There are no other details. On another note, those ears of his are gonna make mighty fine handles in the big house. Enjoy your stay Timothy.

Kimberly Kelley (Myspace) and her son, Nathan Eric Wisniewski

Hobart, IN  - Kimberly Kelley, 30, is charged with murdering her three-month-old son, Nathan Wisniewski, on November 13.   And there is suspicion that Nathan may not be the first of Kelley’s babies to be killed.  Baby Nathan was pronounced dead at 5:30 a.m. last Thursday, after Kelley’s new boyfriend, Kent Kreisher, called police to their home to report that Nathan wasn’t breathing. 

When emergency responders arrived, they found that little Nathan hadn’t been breathing for quite some time.  His tiny body was stiff with rigor.  Nathan Wisniewski had been dead for at least four hours.

Earlier that morning, Kimberly Kelley had drunk-dialed Nathan’s father, Keith Wisniewski.  Keith, a local gym owner and MMA fighter, had evicted Kimberly in early November and had been granted temporary custody of Nathan, who was born July 28.   Kelley had picked up Nathan on Wednesday morning for a visit.  She’d had the baby with her all day.

Kelley reportedly put baby Nathan down in his bassinet to sleep about 7:30 Wednesday evening.  She then began drinking with Kreisher and their roommate David Kish.  The three drank steadily until about 8:30, when the guys went to a bar.  They left Kelley and her baby son at home until around 11:00 that night, when Kreisher and Kish got home.

At about 4:00 in the morning, a very drunk Kimberly Kelley dialed up Keith Wisniewski.  She told him that four years ago, she’d had a baby girl.  Alexis was born prematurely, Kelley said, and had died of a ruptured intestine.  When the doctors realized they couldn’t save Alexis, Kelley withdrew life support.  Her baby girl had died in her arms.  She told Keith that he didn’t know what it was like to lose a child.  She was distraught over the custody ruling, and said, “With no fault of mine, if Nathan died tonight, you don’t know what it would feel like.”  I think that’s drunkspeak for “you’re about to find out.”

Keith Wisniewski said that he talked Kimberly Kelley down and got her to agree to bring Nathan the few blocks back to his place.  An hour later, Kelley hadn’t shown up.  Instead, she woke up Kent Kreishner.  By that time, Nathan was dead.  In fact, the baby was almost certainly dead well before Kimberly Kelley made that phone call to Keith.

An autopsy showed that little Nathan had been in his bassinet, face down.  He’d been pushed into his mattress so hard that it first appeared the baby boy had been squeezed to death.  An embroidered logo on his sleeper imprinted in his tiny chest from the pressure, and left a bruise in the exact shape of the embroidery.  Cause of death was ruled homicide by intentional asphyxiation.  Kimberly Kelley had suffocated her baby.

Authorities are now planning to reopen the case files in the death of Kelley’s daughter Alexis.  After all, a ruptured intestine could very easily have been caused by the same type of pressure that killed Nathan Wisniewski.  I haven’t seen Alexis’ medical reports, so I won’t accuse Kimberly Kelley of murdering her daughter just yet.  But I will be following this case.  It seems quite possible that Kelley may have gotten away with infanticide once – and decided to try it again.

Investigators arrested Kimberly Kelley and have charged her with murder, neglect of a dependent and battery.  She is being held without bond at the Lake County Jail.  Nathan Eric Wisniewski was buried on Monday.  Rest in peace, little guy.

Bedtime with a 2-year-old. It can be a real nightmare for caregivers as the little bastards just don’t want to stay in their beds sometimes. This seemed to be an issue Jessie Rodriguez, 27, was having with the child of his girlfriend, Tisa Hawes, 27. Her 2-year-old boy, Brian Hawes, was having problems falling asleep. So genius decided that he would simply tie the boy down to the bed with the boy’s fire engine blanket. On Sept 21st, after multiple times of the boy wriggling out of his restraints, Rodriguez tied the boy down real good. So good, in fact, that the next morning Brian Hawes was dead.

When found, the knot that Rodriquez had used to tie the boy up “the tightest he’s ever did it” was at the little boy’s chest. He had died from mechanical asphyxiation. In other words, that little boy tried to wriggle himself out the restraints again, only to have the restraints cut off his airway. He laid there and suffocated in his own bed. The image of that is heinous.

What’s even worse is the the fact that the mother was aware of this and allowed it. Not only did she allow the restraining, she allowed the beating and often participated herself. Brian Hawes had bruises on his head, legs and feet. These came from beatings that Rodriguez admitted to doing using a belt and coat hanger on Brian and his 7-year-old brother, ever since he began dating Hawes. Tina was aware of this as well, and even used combs and coat hangers to hit the children’s feet herself.

Rodriguez has been charge with one count of second-degree reckless homicide and two counts of physical abuse of a child. Tisa Hawes will be charged with failure to act to prevent bodily harm to a child. The 7-year-old is in protective custody. If you have a strong stomach, and wanna read the dirty details not usually found in the articles we publish, I have included the main portion of the criminal complaint for you to read in anger:

On September 22, 2008, at 9:25 am, Racine Police Department officers responded to 3421 – 17th Street, in the City and County of Racine, in reference to a 911 call reporting the possible death of a two year old child.

Officer Cera was first to arrive and along with rescue made entry into the home. Inside the upstairs middle bedroom, they found the body of a child, later identified as B.E.H., dob 12/4/05. Officer Cera observed signs of what was believed to be head trauma and bruising on the child’s forehead, as well as other less significant bruising to other parts of the child’s body including his feet, ankles, and back. Rescue determined that the child was dead and the medical examiner was contacted. The child was covered with a blue sheet that had clouds on it and no other bedding was on the bed when police arrived.

The child’s mother, Tisa Hawes, dob 7/25/81, was present when officers found the child. She advised that she lived in the home along with her two sons, B.E.H. and P.R., dob 5/26/01, and her boyfriend, Jessie Rodriguez, dob 5/22/81. Ms. Hawes told police that the night before, on 9/21/08, she had taken her son, P.R., to St. Luke’s Hospital for mental health treatment and that his doctor had admitted him to the hospital overnight. P.R. subsequently spent the night at St. Luke’s and was still there the morning his brother was found. Ms. Hawes described how she and Jessie had put B.E.H. to bed the night before at approximately 9:30 pm, but that B.E.H. was very difficult at bed time and that it normally took him some time to calm down before he would go to sleep. Ms. Hawes said that at approximately 2:00 am, B.E.H. was still awake and in her words, agitated and tired. Ms. Hawes went to bed because B.E.H. was quiet. When she woke up at 7:40 am, she assumed B.E.H. was still sleeping and she went to work without checking on B.E.H., leaving him in Jessie’s care. It was not until Jessie’s father called her at work and told her to come home immediately that she became aware that there was something wrong with B.E.H..

B.E.H.’s brother, P.R., was interviewed at the Child Advocacy Center on September 22, 2008. P.R. described to the forensic interviewer that since his mom’s new boyfriend Jessie moved in, he was getting hit a lot more. P.R. described being hit by Jessie with a belt and a hanger, and that his mom sometimes hit him with the hanger as well. P.R. described being grounded a lot and having to spend time in his room. P.R. said that B.E.H. was also hit by Jessie with Jessie’s hand, a belt and the coat hanger. P.R. said B.E.H. got hit more than him because B.E.H. cried more and that B.E.H. always cried when it was time to go to bed. P.R. said B.E.H. was also grounded to his room for being bad. P.R. said that his mom told him that Jessie was tying B.E.H. up with his fireman blanket at night, because B.E.H. would not stay in bed when he was supposed to. This interview was videotaped and witnessed by Inv. Warmington of the Racine Police Department.

Later that same day, after P.R. was told that his brother B.E.H. had died, he said to Inv. Kurt Meyer of the Racine Police Department, that he thought he knew how his brother died. P.R. said that Jessie must have tied the fireman blanket too tight around B.E.H. and he died.

On September 23, 2008, Inv. Jepson returned to the home and located in a hallway closet outside of B.E.H.’s room, a red fleece blanket with fire trucks and firemen on it. The ends of the blanket was still tied in a knot with a small space in the middle.

On September 22, 2008, Inv. Warren Jepson and Inv. Jim Prioletta began a series of three separate interviews with Jessie Rodriguez. Initially, Rodriguez told the investigators that he had put B.E.H. to bed on 9/21/08 around 9:00 pm, but that B.E.H. did not go to bed easily and was still awake at 2:30 am. At 9:00 pm, when he put B.E.H. to bed, B.E.H. was using a fitted sheet as a pillow and had a red fuzzy blanket on him. Rodriguez stated that he went into B.E.H.’s room alone at 2:30 am to try and get him to go to sleep, and that B.E.H.’s mother Tisa was already in bed herself as she had to go to work the next day. Rodriguez said that at 2:30 am, B.E.H. was fine. Rodriguez stated that the next time he saw B.E.H. was that morning at 9:00 am when he went in to get B.E.H. up for breakfast. Rodriguez said that when he went into the room and found B.E.H. lying face down on the bed and that he could see B.E.H.’s leg and it was purple. Rodriguez said B.E.H.’s face was in the balled up fitted sheet and that the red blanket was covering his head and body so all he could see was B.E.H.’s right leg. Rodriguez denied ever striking B.E.H. in any way and that he had no idea how B.E.H. died.

In subsequent interviews, Rodriguez later admitted that in an effort to get B.E.H. to stay in bed, he was tying the red blanket around B.E.H.’s waist. Rodriguez described how on the night before B.E.H. died, B.E.H. was refusing to go to bed. Rodriguez at around 9:00 pm had attempted to put B.E.H. to bed and when he would not stop yelling, he punished B.E.H. by hitting his feet with a hanger many times. Rodriguez then tied the red blanket around B.E.H., with his arms inside the blanket. According to Rodriguez, he had been using this method of tying B.E.H. with the blanket for the last three nights, but that B.E.H. would somehow wiggle out of the blanket and get out of bed. Rodriguez also admitted that he had been hitting both B.E.H. and P.R. with a belt and a coat hanger since he started dating their mother, but that Tisa Hawes was aware of his form of discipline and did nothing to stop him. He described how he and Tisa both used combs and coat hangers to hit the children’s feet when they were acting up as a friend of Tisa’s had suggested this to her. Rodriguez also stated that Tisa knew he was tying B.E.H. up in the red blanket at night and also did nothing to stop him.

Rodriguez told the investigators that the autopsy would likely show that B.E.H. had suffocated and that he was not beaten as initially suspected based on the bruises to B.E.H.’s head. Rodriguez said that B.E.H. had some minor bruises on his forehead and that while in his room that night, Tisa asked Rodriguez to get B.E.H. a sheet for his head because they could hear B.E.H. hitting his head against the wall and kicking his dresser, while he was avoiding going to sleep. Rodriguez stated that the dark bruises found on B.E.H. in the morning were not there the night before when he last saw B.E.H. at 2:30 am.

On September 24, 2008, Rodriguez again agreed to speak with Investigators Prioletta and Jepson. Rodriguez again stated that he did not know how B.E.H. got the bruises to his head. Rodriguez stated that B.E.H. should have had bruises on his legs, thighs and feet from his discipline with the belt and hanger. Rodriguez stated that Tisa was aware of the welts on B.E.H. and in fact there were times when Tisa was present and ordered the discipline and Rodriguez would hit B.E.H.. Rodriguez said he used a black leather belt with rhinestones on it in the shape of a heart. He also used a plain brown belt and the belt he was using at the time of his arrest.

Rodriguez described how on the night before his death he had swatted B.E.H.’s feet with a plastic hanger at around 11:00pm or 12:00am in B.E.H.’s room. He again hit B.E.H.’s feet with the coat hanger at around 2:30am, as he was still awake. Rodriguez described how B.E.H. was squirming as he hit him and he had restrained him by holding onto his feet while B.E.H. was laying on the bed. That night, Rodriguez had tried spanking B.E.H. with his hand but when that did not work he began to use the hanger to hit B.E.H.’s feet.

Rodriguez then began to describe how he had tied B.E.H. up that night in the blanket. At Around 9:00 pm, he tied B.E.H. in the blanket with his arms at his side, but claimed that B.E.H. could still move his arms inside the blanket. He tied the blanket like a sack to keep B.E.H.’s feet inside. When he first started tying B.E.H. up on the two nights before this he fussed for awhile but seemed to go to sleep faster. On 9/21/08, Rodriguez went back into B.E.H.’s room at around midnight and B.E.H. was out of the blanket. This angered Rodriguez and he disciplined B.E.H. on his feet with the hanger and retied the blanket. At 2:30 am, Rodriguez went back in the bedroom and B.E.H. was out of the blanket again. He again disciplined B.E.H. with the hanger and retied the blanket, around B.E.H.’s waist, perhaps the tightest he had ever tied it. Rodriguez then described finding B.E.H. in the morning with the knot he had tied in the blanket up around B.E.H.’s chest with his arms bent and his hands inside the blanket and up near his face. Rodriguez had to yank the blanket up over B.E.H.’s head when he found him in the morning to check to see if B.E.H. was alive.

Dr. Linda Biedrzycki, Waukesha County Medical Examiner, performed the autopsy on B.E.H. Dr. Biedrzycki’s findings indicated that what appeared to be significant bruising to B.E.H.’s forehead was actually superficial wounds that darkened post mortem, due to lividity. B.E.H. had additional bruising on other parts of his body, however, none of the bruising anywhere was the cause of his death. Additionally, toxicology and other tests showed no other physiological abnormality that caused the child’s death. Dr. Biedrzycki herself interviewed Rodriguez and based on his statements regarding the manner in which the red blanket was tied and the examination of the red fireman blanket, ruled the cause of death as mechanical asphyxiation caused by the blanket preventing the child from breathing.

10/10/08 – Update – Minerva Lopez and Porfirio Olivas-Lopez waived their rights to preliminary hearings during a court appearance on 10/9/08.   They stood mute on the collective charges against them, prompting the court to enter “not guilty” pleas on their behalf.  Additional charges may be filed.

Porfirio Olivas-Lopez and Minerva Lopez:  75 counts of child abuse pending

Madison, WI – Minerva Lopez, 32, and Porfirio Olivas-Lopez, 38, lived in an apartment on Pheasant Ridge Trail with their 5 children, including a newborn.    Neighbors describe them as “some sweet people,” and say, “We would sit and talk. She was nice.  They seemed happy.”   Apparently, looks can be deceiving.

It all started when a diligent worker from Dane County’s Joining Forces for Families program notified the Department of Human Services of suspected abuse.  On Thursday, September 25th, police officers visited the family to investigate those allegations, and found a child with “very serious” injuries: injuries they claimed would be life-threatening if not treated.   Officers transported the child to the hospital, took the other children into protective care, and arrested Porfirio Olivas-Lopez.  The next day, they came back for Minerva.

The neighbors (yep, the ones who thought these were nice folks), say that the couple’s oldest daughter was quiet and more withdrawn than the rest of the family.  They say she’s in middle-school or high-school, and that she’s the one who was taken to the hospital for her injuries.  Police will not confirm the names or ages of any of the children yet, but promise that more information on the case will be forthcoming.

While specific details of the abuse have not been released, but we can gather quite a bit from the list of charges.  To whit:

Porfirio is facing charges on 42 (yes, 42) counts, including 36 counts of physical abuse of a child with the intent to cause bodily harm, one count of physical abuse of a child with the intent to cause great bodily harm, three counts of strangulation, one count of causing mental harm to a child and one count of failure to act to prevent bodily harm to a child.

Mamma Minerva, meanwhile, is only facing 33 counts, including five counts of reckless child abuse causing bodily harm, six counts of reckless child abuse causing bodily harm, two counts of physical abuse of a child with the intent to cause great bodily harm, nine counts of physical abuse of a child with the intent to cause bodily harm, five counts of strangulation and six counts of failure to act to prevent bodily harm to a child.

The italics are mine, folks.  Strangulation.   And not just once, apparently.  I know some folks think it’s ok to spank your child.  I guess I didn’t realize that strangulation was a viable disciplinary measure, as well.  I must have missed that in parenting class.  Oh, wait, it’s NOT okay, you cretins!   Strangling your child will NOT make them respect you, it will NOT make them love you, and it will NOT even make them listen and behave.  It will make them hate you and fear you, and it might just make them DEAD.   Lay off the strangulation, and I mean it.

In the meantime, Minerva Lopez had a bail hearing on Tuesday, and is being held in the Dane County Jail on $25,000 cash bail.   Porfirio Olivas-Lopez has not yet had bail set, and is also being held on an immigration detainer.

Herrin, IL - Bianca Nicole Starr celebrated her third birthday just weeks ago.  Thanks to her mother, 18-year-old Karrae Starr, little Bianca will never see four.  On Saturday, September 27, police were called to Karrae and Bianca’s apartment.  Bianca was unresponsive.  A few hours later, Bianca was dead.   The only person at home with the toddler on Saturday was her mother, Karrae.

Karrae Starr never had it easy growing up, and she grew up too fast. She spent time in foster care as a child, and she got pregnant at fourteen. At fifteen, she had Bianca.   Still, though, Karrae had managed to go to high school at Carbondale High School from 2005 to 2007.  She also got into the nursing program at  John A. Logan College.  While Karrae went to school, Bianca went to the campus daycare, where she was known as a bright, sociable preschooler.

Karrae’s friends are in shock.  No way could she have killed her child, they say.  And Karrae’s Myspace and Bebo pages seem to bear that out.  Multiple proud pictures of Bianca grace Karrae’s internet presence.  There’s not a lot of “O I Luv Mii Boiifrenn” in Karrae’s blogs, either.  In fact, Karrae described herself as bi, or possibly gay.  She wasn’t totally sure yet where she was in terms of sexual orientation, but she was pretty sure that the stuff she’d already tried wasn’t working for her.

Overall, I found Karrae’s internet presence to be caring toward her child, a little pseudo-tough-cool, and….young.  For example, her Myspace headline reads: “If you really want to know I am the REAL CRAZY BITCH! and dont forget it.”

At eighteen, many teenagers can’t keep their bedrooms clean, much less provide for a child. Karrae seemed to be getting her shit together, and trying to keep it there.  But, like Karrae’s mother Dierdre Gibbs said at Steve’s site, “People say alot of stuff on myspace , it doesn’t mean its tru. You can be anyone you want to be on the internet as I am sure you know.”

Yeah, we know, Deirdre.  We totally know.

Karrae’s neighbors described Bianca as a child who would ask them for ice cream or other treats, and they would happily oblige the pretty toddler.  One neighbor told police that she saw Bianca huddled underneath a table the day before her death.  The neighbor remarked that it seemed odd for such a small child to look so depressed.  Other neighbors noted that Karrae had begun drinking heavily, even though she was three years too young to drink legally.  And Karrae herself noted in a blog entry that she had lost custody of Bianca for a time in 2007.

Karrae’s family blames “the system” for Bianca’s death.  I’m not sure why.  The system didn’t place its hand over Bianca’s nose and mouth until the baby died, spewing blood and foam from her burst lung tissue all over the system.  Nope, that was Karrae Starr who suffocated her daughter for entire minutes at a time, getting her baby’s blood all over herself.

Some will say Karrae snapped from the pressure of single, young parenthood and its attendant poverty.  Others will say that Bianca was quite verbal and may have thrown a temper tantrum or mouthed off to her mother until Karrae snapped.  Still others (*coughkarrae’sgrandmacough*) will call Bianca’s death a “drunken accident”.   I have never been so drunk that I could hurt my child.  I have never been so angry that I could clamp my hand over a baby’s face and wait the two to four minutes it takes to kill a toddler who is struggling to breathe, looking into her face, watching the pain as her lung tissue blows, the panic as her body tries desperately to get air, the messiness and horror of a murderous death as the life leaves the face of a child.  Nope, I just don’t have it in me.

But Karrae Starr did.

Karrae Starr is being held at the Williamson County Jail, where she is charged with two counts of first-degree murder.  She was in court Monday for arraignment, and her bond was set at $500,000 or $50,000 cash.  She’ll be back in court on October 6 for another hearing.

Rest in peace, baby girl.  I’m sorry your family failed you.  I’m sorry your mother killed you.

Dreamin’ Demon Home Office, Akron, Ohio – It’s Labor Day, a time when most of us celebrate the ending of summer with parties and barbecues.  Some of us get all teary about the plight of the American Worker, others get in a last swim at the public pool.  Here at the Dreamin’ Demon Home Office in Akron, Ohio, this Labor Day reminded us of… labor.

Sometimes we cover cases where a mother undergoes nine months of pregnancy, grits her teeth through hours or days of labor, and produces a beautiful little bundle of joy – only to kill it or abandon it to death within hours, days, or weeks.  Today, I present to you my top five Dreamin’ Demon Labor Day babykillers:  mothers all, with infants three months or younger.  

5.  Genny Granados, Houston, Texas

Genny Granados, 29, was already a mother of two when she found out she was pregnant with her third child.  The problem?  The child didn’t belong to her long-term man.  Granados appeared at a Houston emergency room in February complaining of stomach pain.  But before she could be seen, she left – at least, it was thought that she left.   Instead, Granados hid in a restroom in the hospital, gave birth, cleaned herself up and ditched her newborn son in a trash can.   The infant was discovered later, but not soon enough.   Granados’ baby was brain-dead.  After several days in the hospital, he was removed from life support.    Granados even had the cojones to petition the court to attend her son’s funeral, but was denied.   She is awaiting trial on charges of felony injury to a child.

4. Efernia McClendon, Opelika, Alabama

Efernia McClendon was just 18 years old when she gave birth in February.  She didn’t abort.  She didn’t choose adoption for her unborn child.   No, Efernia waited until she’d gone nine months without prenatal care, gave birth in her home, and then threw her baby girl out into a ditch behind her apartment complex.  Efernia’s baby girl was born alive and then killed.  She had no name, not even a dumpster for a coffin.   A police investigator raised money for a funeral and named the tiny girl Noelani, because nobody came to claim her.   Three months later, after DNA and other forensic evidence was processed, Efernia McClendon was arrested and charged with manslaughter.  She’s awaiting trial.

3. Kristina Fuelling, Granite Bay, California

Kristina Fuelling, 27, had problems giving her eight-day-old baby girl a bath.  Faith Evelyn Fuelling was born on January 12, 2008, and was killed by her mother on January 20.  Kristina Fuelling drowned baby Faith in a sink, then woke up her husband to tell him what she’d done.  Fuelling was not a single mother.  She had Faith’s father in the home – she chose not to wake him, chose not to tell him she was overwhelmed.  She chose not to call someone for help or leave the baby alone in a crib.  Hell, she chose not to kill herself.  Instead, she drowned her baby, went to jail, and told police exactly what she’d done.

Fuelling is now awaiting trial on charges of murder and assault on a child. Her defense is claiming postpartum depression and financial problems.  Note to Kristina:  abortion would have been cheaper.  Birth control, cheaper still. Adoption would have gotten you paid.  Murder is expensive.

2. Morgan Hite, Wasilla, Alaska and Grand Junction, Colorado

Morgan Hite 22, left the corpse of her murdered newborn son at her father and stepmother’s Colorado home after a visit in April.  She apparently gave birth in a neighbor’s bathroom, which she then cleaned up after killing her baby.  She wrapped the child in plastic, carted him home to her parents’ house, and left his body to rot in their guest closet.   Even worse?  Hite slept in the room with the rotting infant for over a month before taking her older child and going home to Alaska.  Um, say what?

Hite’s stepmother found the dead baby in her guest room closet, stuffed into a bag.  She’d been cleaning house trying to find what she thought was a dead rodent.  Nobody had known Morgan was still pregnant – she told her family she’d given birth in Alaska and given the baby up for adoption. While she was in Colorado, Morgan went snowboarding, took in tourist attractions with her daughter, and ignored the dead baby in her closet.   Morgan Hite is awaiting trial on charges of murder and child abuse resulting in death.

1. Caren Kohberger, Alvin and Galveston, Texas

That’s right, denizens.  My number one Labor Day babykiller isn’t even charged with murder – but maybe she should be.  On January 29, 2998, three-month old Alijah Mullis was stomped to death by his father, Travis “TJ” Mullis.  His body and carseat were abandoned on the side of the road in Galveston – nothing like death with a beach view.   Clearly Alijah’s mother, Caren Kohberger, didn’t actually kill her child – so why the ranking?   Because the more I think about this bitch, the madder I get.

Caren whined throughout her pregnancy, begging for help from friends on Fubar, a social networking site where she spent most of her time.  She knew her babydaddy Mullis had problems.  But Caren wouldn’t work.  Caren wouldn’t do anything.   Caren left her baby to his troubled father, well aware of his issues.   Why?  Because Caren was a lazy bitch who couldn’t be bothered.  And I defended her, said she didn’t kill her son, she shouldn’t be charged.  I was wrong, wrong, wrong.

On the morning of Alijah’s death, he was barely three months old.  Travis Mullis went to Caren and said that he was having flashbacks to sexual abuse he had suffered as a child.  He told Caren that he had to get out of the house or he would hurt his son, hurt her, or hurt himself.  Her response?  “Take the baby with you.”

Four hours later, Alijah Mullis was dead.  It wasn’t like Caren Kohberger had anywhere to be that day, anything to do.  She knew her son was in danger.  Mullis told her he would likely hurt the child. And she told Mullis to take him anyway.   That, my friends, is almost as good as a curb-stomp to me.  And while Travis Mullis  now faces the death penalty (as well he should), Caren Kohberger is out on bond, awaiting trial on a charge of child endangerment – a charge that will net her less than two years, if convicted.

People of the Internet, take heed and listen.  If you do not want a baby, do not go through labor only to kill your child.  There’s no need.  Birth control is readily available.  Adoption is often profitable for birth mothers, and some open adoptions will allow you to keep track of your baby without the responsibility or expense of raising her.  Even abortion is a better option than killing your child once it’s born and leaving the body for someone else to find.   This Labor Day, make it your goal :  no unplanned pregnancy.   Save Labor Day for barbecues, workers, and people who plan for, want, and love their children.  Please?

Las Vegas, NV - Nichole Elizabeth Yegge, called “Nikki”,  would have turned 18 on August 8, this coming Friday.  But she won’t have a birthday party or a night out with friends this weekend, because she’s dead.  Nichole’s body was found in a shallow grave in the desert outside Las Vegas last week, her teeth knocked out, her tattoos sliced off.  On Sunday, Anne Osburn, 21, and Gabriel Yates, 31, were arrested for Nichole’s kidnapping and murder.

Nichole’s life wasn’t all sunshine and roses in any event.  At just 17, she was being pimped out by Yates and Osburn via Craigslist ads and little black book contacts.  Her relationship with her charismatic pimp and his pretty young wife was rocky.  Anne Osburn had just given birth on July 6 to Gabriel Yates’ baby daughter, and there were undercurrents of jealousy in the apartment where Nichole was living with the pair. Police say that both Nichole and Anne were involved in romantic relationships with Yates.

Nichole’s own family had reported her missing in June from her Henderson home.  Her last Myspace update was on June 11, and it appears that before that time her life had been more normal.  Teen angst, no doubt, and a fantasy of independence likely played into her decision to run away.  Nichole was a Juggalette, an Insane Clown Posse devotee who painted her face in the Dark Carnival style made popular by the band.   She wanted to be free, I’m sure, of parental restrictions.  Whether she knew Osburn and Yates before she ran away is unclear.  It’s certain that she had no clue what life on the run with the couple would bring.

On July 23, tensions in the pimpin’ apartment took a violent turn.  During an argument, Yates hit Nichole, and she started to cry, but then got mad. Nichole told the couple that she was going to turn them in to the police for “pimping out an underage girl”.  As she started for the door, Yates hit Nichole again and knocked her down.  And then Anne Osburn choked the girl to death.

The couple then broke out all Nichole’s teeth, sliced off her tattoos, and shoved her body into a hockey bag.  They took Nichole in her makeshift body bag to the desert, where Yates buried the runaway teenager in a shallow grave.  Afterward, they took the teeth and tattooed skin pieces to a lake for disposal.  Just like that, Nichole Elizabeth Yegge was gone.

A tip from a friend of the couple’s was called in on July 28, and FBI investigators from as far away as Alabama spoke with people who knew Yates and Osburn. On Saturday, August 2, police followed Yates into the desert and found Nichole’s gravesite.  The next day, Gabriel Yates and Anne Osburn were arrested.

Gabriel Wayne Yates and Anne Marie Osburn are each being held without bond at the Clark County Detention Center.  They are each charged with first-degree kidnapping and first-degree murder, and are scheduled to appear in court for arraignment on Wednesday morning. No word on where their baby daughter is now.  Here’s hoping her life turns out better than Nichole Yegge’s.

Greenville, SC - On Monday, 8-year-old Dymia Woody did not return home after dusk like she normally did, so her parents started canvasing the neighborhood looking for her. At 10:30 p.m., they called police. Her body was found Tuesday morning in the closet of an abandoned mobile home that was within site of her home. She had been sexually assaulted and died from asphyxia. Police have now arrested a 14-year-old neighbor and charged him with the death of Dymia

He was one of the last people seen with the girl, and he had already garnered suspicion from investigators as well as Dymia’s mother. On Tuesday, after her daughter was found, she said, “The last time I remember seeing her, like I said, she was playing on the trampoline and then she left with those children and they — like in between two children — and there’s a huge wooded area. I don’t know if she ever made it to a friend’s house. The mother said she didn’t. The son says she did. And he offered to walk her home. So I’m getting two stories, so I don’t know who to believe.”

The Greenville County Coroner’s office said that Dymia was killed sometime Monday between 8:30 p.m. and midnight. The 14-year-old was charged with first-degree criminal sexual conduct and kidnapping and is currently being held in the juvenile area of the Law Enforcement Center in Greenville.
