Tampa, FL – What the hell is it with all the fire here on the Dreamin’ Demon lately? It seems like Morbid just posted a story about a cowardly asshole setting fire to his significant other and here we are with yet another one. Demonites, meet Christopher Hanney. Authorities report that on November 17, after the two argued, Hanney allegedly attacked his estranged wife, Audrey Mabrey – first clubbing her in the head with a hammer before dousing her with lighter fluid and lighting a match. Witnesses report seeing Audrey run from her home, engulfed in flames, to the safety of a neighbor’s house. Audrey, a 26-year-old mother of two very young children, is now hospitalized in critical condition with burns to over 80% of her body. When police arrived on scene, Hanney, 44, was found in the backyard, suffering from burn wounds as well. He was released from the hospital the following day and taken into custody. Hanney, a former New York police officer, is being held without bail on charges of attempted murder in the first-degree.

This isn’t the first instance of domestic violence in the couple’s marriage – a domestic violence report was filed on the 20th of October and a warrant was issued. In that incident, Audrey reported that Hanney had gotten violent with her and had tried to rape her. The case was never prosecuted because Audrey gave conflicting reports about the incident. She told friends and family that she was scared of Hanney, but stated that she couldn’t afford to leave him. The two continued to live in the same home, but shared separate bedrooms.

Audrey’s parents are doing what they can to raise enough money to travel from Texas to Florida to be with their daughter and care for their grandchildren. A trust fund has been set up for the Audrey and her kids – those interested can go to any Bank of America and tell them you want to donate to the Audrey Mabrey and Children fund.

Tulsa, OK - Having spent time in prison for sex crimes against children, Johnnie Joe Hobbs had no desire to revisit the Gray Bar Hotel. As a matter of fact, when the convicted sex offender discovered his parole was about to be revoked, he got a little hot under the collar. Tulsa County sheriff’s deputies paid a visit to Johnnie Joe Thursday afternoon to serve three protective orders – tagging along were officers from the state parole board who were there to haul Johnnie Joe back to the slammer on a parole violation. Officers spotted him sitting in a cargo van parked in his cluttered yard – as they approached the vehicle, Johnnie Joe slammed the door, doused the inside of the van with gasoline and lit it up.

“There are a lot of people that will do a lot of things to keep from going back to jail,” Capt. John Bowman said. “To use a flammable liquid to ignite where they are, I have not seen that before.” And see it, they did. There were concerns that Johnnie Joe may have been armed and because of the danger imposed on rescue workers, the fire department didn’t immediately extinguish the blaze. After about 30 minutes, the fire was put out and authorities entered the van to discover Johnnie Joe’s flambéed body in the cab. No weapons were found.

Johnnie Joe Hobbs, 47, is no more. According to the DOC website, Johnnie Joe was convicted for lewd molestation of a child, showing obscene material to a child, and lewd or indecent proposals to a child. Self-immolation – get’s ‘em every time.

Huron Township – This is one of the most horrifyingly callous stories I have written about in a while. I have read through about 15 different articles and got sicker the entire time. Sharon Hinojosa, 29, lived in a mobile home with her boyfriend Justin Whisler. Early Friday morning, the mobile home caught fire. Hinojosa was able to escape the blaze with the 1-year-old she shared with Whisler. Sadly,her two other children she had with another man, 4-year-old Anthony, and 3-year-old Alayna, perished in the flames — despite attempts by neighbors to rescue them. Now police have charged Hinojosa with setting the fire and purposely leaving her two children to burn alive. It is a heinous accusation and now that some details have come to light, coupled with the fact that she is now in the hospital after drinking rubbing alcohol, seem to have a lot of merit

Neighbor Joe Dickes said he saw the front porch ablaze about 3:15 a.m. Friday and ran to talk to Hinojosa, who stood outside by a car where her 1-year-old was inside. Dickes said Hinojosa did not call for help until the fire was well under way. “It seemed to me that fire was pretty well going before she started screaming,” he said. He added that she didn’t mention her two other kids were still in the trailer until he asked where they were. Him and a neighbor began trying to get to the kids by busting out windows, as Hinojosa never told them specifically where the two kids were inside the trailer. “I said, ‘Come on kids, it’s Uncle Jo-Jo; jump into my arms.’ Then the flames blew out and singed my hair,” he said. “I heard the babies screaming for a minute, minute and a half, then they just stopped.” Let that last line sink in a second.

During this time, Hinojosa did place a call to 911. You can listen to it here. In it you can here a very frantic Hinojosa completely unable to clearly articulate where she lived in the Huron Estates Mobile Home Park. Police allege she was not unable, simply unwilling. Neighbors also state that while the rescue attempt was underway, she ran up and down the street screaming while telling everyone that the reason why she left her two children in the trailer was because “she could not wake them up.”

Looks like the motive may have been the “keep the penis” scenario we hear of a lot. Neighbors and relatives told the Free Press that Hinojosa and Whisler were in the process of breaking up. The couple had dated about three years and Hinojosa was supposed to move out of the mobile home. Neighbors said Hinojosa and Whisler had lived in the area for about six months and were often heard arguing. In July, police responded to a domestic violence call after Hinojosa claimed she was pushed to the ground by Whisler. Hinojosa refused to press charges.

Hinojosa has been charged with arson, second-degree murder and felony murder, which is murder committed during another crime. The maximum penalty is life in prison. Hinojosa’s arraignment was not immediately set because currently she is suffering non life-threatening injuries after drinking rubbing alcohol while in custody over the weekend. Funeral donations also can be sent to the Alayna and Anthony Hinojosa Fund at any Bank of America branch.

Not much I can add to this. words could not possibly convey the contempt I have for this woman if she is guilty of what she is being accused of doing. If it is true, I can only hope the screams of those two kids burning alive are seared in her brain. I hope she never has one minute of peace until the day she dies. For the people who tried to save those kids, specifically Joe Dickes, I hope that you know you did absolutely everything you could have done to try and save those kids.

Clermont, FL – Writing a story about some asshole setting his current/ex girlfriend on fire is nothing new – sadly enough, it happens more than one might think it would. What is shocking about this particular story is not only the violence of the act, but the ages of the parties involved – just 14 and 15-years-old. Calva Haskell, 15, is accused of stabbing 14-year-old Taylor Mack several times before squirting some kind of flammable liquid on her and setting her on fire. At about 5:30 Wednesday morning, Taylor snuck out of her house to meet and talk with Calva, who is believed to be her ex-boyfriend. The topic of the conversation is unknown, but, shortly after the two met, Taylor was running to a neighbor’s home screaming for help. After the attack, Calva returned home, where he was later arrested and charged with attempted first-degree murder. Calva has no previous criminal history, is said to be a popular kid, and is active in school and sports. What the fuck happened in this kid’s brain to set him off like that? Authorities don’t have a motive as of yet, but, friends of both kids seem to think it’s because Calva had moved on after the relationship, had already hooked up with another girl, and was upset that Taylor still had feelings for him. Officials report that Taylor is listed in serious condition – the details and extent of her injuries are unknown. I’ll update this story as more details become available.

Athens, GA – Back in September of 2001, Phillip Scruggs got all pissed off and stabby with his girlfriend, Elisa Davenport. He kidnapped her, stabbed her a few times, and left her for dead. Elisa had luck on her side and managed to survive the attack. Scruggs was arrested, charged with kidnapping, kidnapping with bodily injury, aggravated assault, and violating the state Family Violence Act. As part of a plea agreement, he pleaded guilty to kidnapping, false imprisonment and battery. Scruggs received a slap on the wrist for the violent assault and was sentenced to three years in prison and seven years of probation. While he did his time, Elisa recovered and got on with her life. And, according to her family, she was doing very well without the stabby bastard. I guess the stabbing wasn’t enough to derail the relationship – the couple picked up where they left off when Scruggs was released from prison in 2004. Now, five rocky and tumultuous years later, Scruggs upped the ante. This time around, his weapon of choice was kerosene. This time around, Elisa may not be so lucky.

When firefighters and paramedics responded to the apartment complex where Elisa lived early Tuesday morning, smoke was pouring from the building – the fire had quickly spread to other apartment homes. Right outside of her ground floor apartment lay Elisa – she was suffering from burns to her legs, torso, and head. Before she passed out, she managed to say, “He poured kerosene on me.” Police soon caught up with Scruggs and noted that he smelled of smoke and looked as if he had been in some type of altercation, with a split lip and blood on his hands. I hope to hell Elisa got in a good punch or two before she went up in flames. Scruggs, ever the caring and loving boyfriend, was kind enough to ask about Elisa on his way to the pokey.

Elisa Davenport, 42, is now breathing and eating through a tube. With burns covering nearly 60% of her body, her prognosis isn’t very good. Phillip Scruggs, 49, is now facing charges of aggravated assault and first-degree arson. This time, if they’re gonna slap him on the wrist, I hope they do it with a fucking machete. Asshole.

Toronto, Canada- On the night of July 31, 56-year old Helen Soady was drinking with her step-son, Shannon Soady, 36, and a 40-year old man who had been staying with her in recent weeks named, James Thorpe. The trio ended up getting in an argument over money which turned physical and Soady ended up getting hit in the head with “several objects”. The men then tried to cut Soady’s head off and attempted to set the apartment on fire before they fled. A neighbor, Diana Hasse, who lives across the hall from Soady’s apartment, said she was awakened around 4 a.m. the next morning by police knocking on Soady’s door.

The police told her they were responding to a domestic disturbance call and asked if she had seen anything. The officers kept knocking on the door occasionally for about three more hours and then left when nobody answered or came home. Over the weekend, Hasse watched for her neighbor and began having difficulty sleeping as her concern grew. On Sunday night, Hasse became convinced something was wrong. She called police insisting they kick down Soady’s door which she claims they only agreed to do so on Monday after Hasse said she would take responsibility for the damage.

“At that point I just didn’t care,” Hasse said. “I had this gut feeling that something was wrong.” Her gut instinct was correct, because police found Helen Soady in a pool of blood clinging to life. For almost three days, Soady lay helpless on the verge of death. She was badly beaten and unable to scream for help because her throat was deeply cut from the attempted decapitation. Police found evidence that someone had tried to burn the place down as a way to cover up the grisly deed. Helen Soady is now in critical condition at a hospital, but she is expected to survive. Those who know her describe her as “a nice lady” whose husband committed suicide about three years ago.

Shannon Soady and James Thorpe were arrested two days later and charged with attempted murder, attempted arson and disregard for human life. Thorpe was also charged with threatening death and Soady is additionally charged with failing to comply with probation. Soady, who describes himself on Facebook as “a Christian person, honest and fun loving”, made an entry on the site after his step-mother was found. It said, “I’m so worried about my step-mom. Someone hurt her bad,” he wrote. “I don’t know everything yet. The cops can’t say much.”

Portland, OR - Break-ups, most of the time, suck ass. Though sometimes a break-up could be considered cause for celebration, there is usually one ‘injured’ party in the situation -  the ass who is the most ass hurt in the whole thing. The ass in this story is Cory Vaughn. Wednesday evening, Cory allegedly got a little rough with his girlfriend’s puppy. When his girlfriend stepped up to protect her critter, Cory turned his anger on her. The girlfriend told authorities that Cory slapped her, pushed her down, and tried to choke her. Cory eventually fled the apartment, and the girlfriend, knowing that Cory had a key to her home and may return to finish the job, left to spend the night with a friend. A short time later, a neighbor called to inform her that her apartment was on fire. Right before she called 911, she scrolled through her text messages and soon discovered who the culprit was and the lengths he would go to to hurt her.

“He he he fire” said one text. “Smoky in here. … Damn, I’m destructive. … Really shouldn’t leave someone who hates YOU alone with stuff. … Don’t worry it’s just stuff. … It’s wet, burned and ripped, but it’s just stuff. … Yeah, fire trucks and police.” Hehhh…talk about incriminating yourself. After she read those messages, she called Cory. He continued his butt hurty rant over the phone. “Hope nothing important is in your bag ’cause your table is on fire. It’s pretty,” he allegedly told her. “The Bible you’ve been using? It’s a little singed.” When fire crews showed up to put out the flames, they found three separate piles of the woman’s belongings that had been torched – one pile on the coffee table, one pile on the kitchen table, and a pile in the bedroom. Luckily, the fire didn’t spread throughout the entire apartment or to her neighbor’s apartments.

Cory, the little genius, was arrested when he was seen driving past the complex – to survey the damage, no doubt. At first, he denied even having a girlfriend – under questioning, he admitted to being in the apartment, but said the fire was already burning when he got there. Good thing the retard is a texting freak with the inability to keep his pie hole closed. Cory Vaughn, 35, is being held on two counts of first-degree arson, second-degree criminal mischief, strangulation and harassment. Bail has been set at $512,500. Dumbass.

Tulsa, OK – Just like the old saying, “play with  fire and you’re bound to get burned,” 33-year old Nicole Partridge learned a horrific lesson on just how bad being involved with meth can be. Around 2 p.m. this last Friday, police received a 911 call from Partridge after a domestic dispute with her 23-year old boyfriend, Kenneth McCurley. They found Partridge outside a residence critically burned, from the neck down. Partridge told firefighters who responded to the scene that after dousing her with gasoline, McCurley threw a cigarette on her to ignite a fire.

Police initially believed McCurley had barricaded himself inside the home after Patridge told them that McCurley was inside cooking meth, but they did not find him. What police did find were some components of a meth lab. It was not until early Saturday morning when McCurley was found. He was charged with first degree arson and assault with a deadly weapon with his bond set at $20,000. McCurley had a warrant relating to charges from 2006, including unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, obstructing an officer, and forcible entry.

When interviewed by investigators, McCurley said that he accidentally splashed Coleman fuel on his girlfriend and he ran because she told him to. Partridge told a physician a different story. Prior to being sedated, she said that her burns were not an accident. “He will try to say it was an accident but don’t believe him,” she said. Partridge remains in very critical condition as of Sunday morning. She received second and third degree burns over 80 percent of her body. She is not expected to survive.

Schenectady, NY- From the very beginning the police suspected arson. Around 4:30 a.m. on June 13, firefighters responded to call of a burning apartment building. The brave firefighters risked their lives as they fought through the smoke and the flames inside the burning structure searching for helpless victims. It was on the second floor in a bedroom where they found 10-year old Avion Bell lying on the floor. Once outside, the firefighters had to resuscitate Avion twice before she was taken to the hospital. From there she was flown to Westchester Medical Center to be treated for smoke inhalation and listed in critical condition. The three firefighters who rescued Avion were also injured. Out of the three, Capt. Douglas Faulisi, 38, suffered the worst and may be off the job for up to a year due to a seriously injured hand.

It wasn’t until 7 a.m. that her mother, 34-year old Tamira Bell, finally returned home and learned what had happened. She had left Avion home alone in her bedroom and went out partying with some friends the previous evening. Because of her absence, police charged her with child endangerment. After the fire, for four days Avion remained on life support until she eventually died. Neighbors were heartbroken to learn of her death. They said she was a tough little girl, a tomboy who often played football with the boys and could often be seen zipping down the street on her pink motor scooter.

After almost three weeks of investigation, police finally were able to arrest the person whom they believe started the fire. Sarah Moore, 25, has been charged with first-degree arson and second-degree murder. It’s believed that on the night before the fire, Moore had been drinking and doing drugs with a group of people, including Tamira Bell, and she had become angry over a disagreement. A source familiar with the ongoing investigation said Moore apparently got jealous because Bell had smoked crack with her boyfriend. So in retaliation, Moore went to Bell’s home and intentionally set the fire that killed little Avion. The County District Attorney said Moore was aware of Avion being in the home, but they do not believe she intended to purposely kill her. If convicted, Moore faces 25-years-to-life in prison. She is being held without bail. R.I.P. Little Avion. It breaks my heart to know that the only people who seemed to care about your life were, ironically, the ones who tried to save it.

Axton, Virginia It’s after midnight on a Saturday, a time for all good college kids to be hitting their drinking prime or making their way back to their dorm room looking for the perfect opportunity to sneak their love for the evening into the comfort of their room. But for Timothy Carter, activities after midnight on Saturday were a bit more adventurous. Guided by the loving hand of his father, Timothy was lured home only to find daddy had flipped and that his basic survival instincts would be put to the test after his father turned the gun on him. 

Saturday evening Timothy Carter received a phone call from his father asking him to drive the 90 miles home from Radford University, simply stating his mother really needed to speak with him. Upon arriving at his parent’s house, William Carter lured his son into the basement of their ranch-style home where his mother, Bonnie (56), and his brother William Carter Jr. (28), lay dead on the floor. Seems like dad wasn’t so good at keeping his secret for his plans for Timothy as he quickly opened fire on him as well, shooting him in the back. Of course, the natural reaction would be an attempt to flee from the insanity, which he tried but his father was insistent he stay and shot him a second time. I can’t even begin to imagine the thoughts running through one’s mind in this situation and I’m sure Timothy had plenty, the best one being to play dead…which he did.

When William retreated away from the basement and into another portion of the house, Timothy was able to escape to safety at a neighbors where a call was placed to 911. The surviving son explained how his father had used trickery to lure him into the horrifying scene. As authorities arrived, the house was ablaze. The bodies of Bonnie and William Jr. were recovered, as well as William Sr. who had shot himself after attempting to create the family funeral pyre. The firearms were also recovered from the crime scene along with evidence of the premeditated murder-suicide in the form of a “putting final affairs in order” letter. Timothy is still hospitalized and listed in fair condition.

Kissimmee, Florida–Rachelee Soto was pissed off at her boyfriend. So, she did what any vindictive cunt would do…she set fire to his puppy. Soto’s boyfriend was at work when he received a phone call from his son telling him that his psycho girlfriend went and set the dog on fire. When deputies arrived, they found Haze, a 4-month-old pit bull pup with burns to his paws, stomach, face, and ears. The boyfriend told deputies that Soto was pissed off at him, and was taking it out on the puppy and the house.

Soto says it was all just a misunderstanding. See…she was outside in the garage, smoking a cigarette, and there might have been motor oil on the ground, which could have sparked a fire. Uh-huh. Deputies searched the garage and reported they were unable to locate any cigarettes. Based on that, and witness accounts, Rachelee Soto, 31, was arrested and charged with animal cruelty. She didn’t go quietly, so she also faces a charge of resisting arrest without violence. Haze, was taken to an animal hospital for treatment, but his injuries were so severe that he had to be put to sleep.

Boston, Massachusetts–Christopher Mundell’s girlfriend made a late night food run, leaving her 2 1/2 year old daughter in his care. How long she was away from the apartment is unknown, but it was long enough to forever change the life of her little girl.

When the child’s mother returned to the apartment, she found Mundell asleep on the couch, covered in blood. She checked on the child and found her to be suffering from a stab wound to her upper thigh. That wasn’t the worst of it…while being examined and treated for the knife wound, doctors discovered the child had been raped. It was later discovered that Mundell had also lit the child’s blanket on fire.

Mundell, said to be highly intoxicated at the time of his arrest, pitched a fit in the middle of the booking process and relayed to officers that he was ‘going to find a gun and kill them all.’ Take it like a man, Mundell…you putrid little bitch. Christopher Mundell, 22, is charged with aggravated rape of a child, indecent assault and battery of a child, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, resisting arrest, marijuana possession, and attempt to commit arson, among other charges. Bail was set at $250,000.

Euclid, Ohio – Sammy Hunter, likes to smoke PCP laced marijuana, also known as “wet.”  And like regular pot, wet will give you the munchies.  But unlike regular pot, Hunter got the munchies for the weirdest thing.  Fresh.  Roasted. Newborn.

After smoking some PCP laced blunts with a friend, Hunter came home, turned on the oven, emptied a diaper bag, placed his 4 week old son in the bag and then tried to put him in the oven.  Hunter’s girlfriend, the baby’s mother, stopped him.  She turned off the oven and put the baby in a makeshift bassinet made out of a Rubbermaid container (WTF?)  Hunter then turned the oven back on and watched television while it preheated.  Then the persistent nutjob tried to put the baby in the oven again and was stopped by the baby’s mother… again.

Still determined, Hunter tried to set a fire using the natural gas piped into the kitchen.  Firefighters responded to the neighbor’s reports of a gas leak.  When they arrived, firefighters tried to force their way in only to be assaulted by Hunter.  Police arrived, arrested him and transported him to a hospital were he repeatedly said, “I need to kill him. I don’t want him to go through what I did.”  According to social workers, Hunter was abused as a child.  However, I am sure that didn’t have as much to do with as the fact that he was literally stoned out of his mind. Hunter was charged with attempted murder, attempted aggravated arson, kidnapping, assault on two firefighters, assault on a firefighter captain, domestic violence, child endangering and obstructing official business.

Kids, please, just say no.  Babies are supposed to be loved, not baked.  If you are going to indulge in mind altering substances, stay away from people until you have your shit together.  Don’t be like Sammy Hunter.

Hancock, MD–Clarence Meyers, 38, was faced with a dilemma. He and his girlfriend, Melissa Lindeman, had lost their jobs at an auto-parts factory. Meyers went on unemployment and Lindeman worked at a burger joint to provide for the family. Recently, Meyers’ unemployment checks came to a halt…he was desperate. He needed a plan and he needed it quick.

His plan was this–he would burn his house down, right? Yeah! Then everyone in the community would feel sorry for him and the donations would just come rolling in. Fucking brilliant! Except for one thing, Lindeman’s two daughters died in that fire.

The blaze began just before 11:00 p.m. last Monday. Meyers and Lindeman managed to escape the home through a broken window. Lindeman ran next door to call 911. Meyers attempted to re-enter the home, thinking he could save the girls and come out of this mess smelling like a rose and looking like a hero. It didn’t happen that way. The heat and the smoke were too intense. When the fire was extinguished, there were two casualties: Nicole Gross, 15, and her sister, Mary Gross, 12.

An autopsy shows that both girls died from smoke inhalation with burns. High levels of carbon monoxide were found in both girls’ blood. Their bodies were found in the second floor bedroom, but investigators aren’t saying whether they died in their sleep or if they made any attempt to get out. Melissa Lindeman was hospitalized for the injuries she sustained when she jumped through a first floor window to escape the fire.

Arson investigators say they went over the house very carefully, ruling out every possible accidental cause for the fire, and were able to uncover evidence of arson. When questioned, Meyers confessed.

While his family slept, Meyers walked down to the basement and sprayed lighter fluid on an electrical panel and a bed that was adjacent to the furnace…he then lit a piece of paper and let it drop. He claimed that he tried to extinguish the fire by using clothes to stamp it out. When that didn’t work, he high-tailed it out of the basement through an exterior door. I can’t find a single news article that states Meyers attempted to warn Lindeman or her daughters of the fire.

When asked why the hell he would do such a thing, Meyers told investigators ‘he was planning to win sympathy by setting fire to the house he shared with the family.’ He wanted donations from the community. Worthless tard.

Clarence Meyers was arrested Friday and is being held in the Washington County Detention Center without bond. He is being charged with two counts of murder, two counts of child abuse, and three counts of arson. A preliminary hearing was set for March 19…the state’s attorney could seek the death penalty.

While Meyers blamed financial hardship, sources close to the investigation are calling bullshit…they believe the crime was committed out of spite because of ongoing domestic problems in the home. One neighbor said he heard a man scream, ‘I am going to kill you, I am going to kill you,’ moments before the fire broke out.

Either way, two innocent children are dead because Clarence Meyers is a selfish asshole.

Stephany’s Myspace

Gloversville, NY–We all need a little comic relief now and then, especially here at the D’D. Recently, UnamusedCat posted Stephany’s story in the forums and our members have been having a little fun with the whole thing. The story itself isn’t especially entertaining, but Stephany, her Myspace blogs, and her photo albums are. Please, read on….

The story is about Stephany Hayes, an 18-year-old beauty queen who likes to set fires. On January 15, she set fire to some cardboard and garbage in the hallway of her apartment building…she then returned to her apartment. Once the blaze was good and hot, Stephany raced out of her apartment and began alerting the neighbors to the fire. Awwww…what a good little neighbor. Give that girl a medal for her heroism in the face of danger! The neighbors were able to get the fire extinguished before the FD even showed up. Thankfully, there was minimal damage and no injuries.

While investigating the fire on Prospect, it was found that Stephany was suspected of having set fire to her previous residence, 118 Spring Street, in October. It is believed that she intentionally lit a notebook on fire and placed it under a pile of clothing. That fire was a little more damaging. The building was destroyed and six people had to find a new place to live. Thanks Stephany! She has no less than three pages of pictures depicting that fire in her photo albums.

Stephany Hayes now sits in a cage, with no access to matches, lighters, or cameras…thank gawd. She is being charged with two counts of felony fourth-degree arson and two counts of misdemeanor second-degree reckless endangerment. Her bond has been set at $10,000.
