Orange Park, Florida – On Monday afternoon, Somer Thompson, 7, was walking home from Grove Park Elementary with a group of kids that included her twin brother and 10-year-old sister. After getting into an argument with some of the group, she began running home. She has not been seen since. An Amber Alert has since been issued. Thompson is white, 3 feet 5 inches tall and weighs 65 pounds. She has brown hair that was in a pony tail and was wearing a cranberry colored jumpsuit with pink stripes and a black T-shirt underneath. Her backpack is black with pink and white skulls and crossbones. “This is an all-out search,” Sgt. Dan Mahla, of the Clay County Sheriff’s Department said at a news conference Tuesday afternoon. “We are going to keep trying and trying and trying. We have all these resources and we are maximizing them to the max. “She is an endangered missing child. We do suspect foul play.””

To make matters even worse, one week ago there was a failed abduction attempt in this area. A 5-year-old-girl was approached by a Hispanic woman driving a blue sedan with two Hispanic males. She told the little girl that her mother had instructed her to get in the car. The little girl refused and got upset, attracting the attention of a neighbor who intervened.

Here is a mini  time-line from what I have gleaned from the online reports:

Monday 2:45 p.m – Walking the mile walk home ahead of other kids
Monday 3:05 p.m – Siblings arrive home to find sister not there. Somer’s mother’s boyfriend begins walking the neighborhood
Monday 4:00 p.m. – Mother calls home to check on kids, immediately calls authorities
Tuesday 9 a.m. – Amber Alert
Tuesday All Day- 100 Clay County deputies, law enforcement officers from neighboring counties, the FBI and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement scoured a residential Orange Park neighborhood began scouring the area using helicopters, horses and dogs. 57 sex offenders have been interviewed within a 3-mile radius, and their homes and yards have been searched. The search was expanded Tuesday to a 5-mile radius, and officials say they will interview 30 more registered sex offenders.
Tuesday 7:30 p.m. – Candlelight Vigil held

Here is some heart-breaking video from showing Somer’s mother as she relays the last time she saw Somer – and laments on whether she told Somer she loved her or not.

Also, here is the walk they took. I took a Google Streets Stroll down that path and it is VERY residential with a lot of places for her to go off the path if she were mad at her sister. There is the possibility that she was never ahead of them for long, maybe even hiding and letting them get in front of her. She also had to walk past a ball park of some type where strangers to the neighborhood could go unnoticed.

Update
Like a lot of people had already been thinking, this missing person story will not end well. The body of a small child has been found in the Chesser Island Road Landfill in Flokstin, Ga. This particular landfill is the end of the route for trucks collecting trash in Somer’s hometown of Orange Park, FL. Police have not confirmed that the body is Somer’s, but what would be the odds of it being another child?

Update 10/22 – Clay County Sheriff Rick Beseler states that investigators have identified the body of Somer Thompson. An autopsy, scheduled to be performed today at the Medical Examiner’s office in Savannah, should help determine a cause of death.

Dallas, Texas–Hinky meters were going off like crazy when the story of Daisja Weaver hit the forums last Wednesday. Daisja’s mother, Tamaira Creagh, had quite a frightening tale to tell. Last Tuesday evening, while Tamaira was preparing to move items to a new apartment, a Hispanic male, dressed in red and black, entered her apartment and attempted to sexually assault her…she managed to fight him off. Thwarted, the man grabbed her infant daughter, Daisja, car seat and all, jumped from a second-story balcony, and disappeared into the night. Scary shit, huh? Almost as scary as the real story behind little Daisja’s disappearance.

About 12 hours after the initial call to police, an Amber Alert was issued. (The alert was delayed because Tamiria could not provide a description of the suspect, and because she and the baby’s father, Alandus Weaver, told conflcting stories). Hours were spent searching the apartment complex and the surrounding area…nothing was found. Tamaira pleaded for the return of her child. “Bring us our child. Please. Daisja, I need you mama. I need you so bad,” she cried. “Whoever has my little girl, bring her back. She needs her mom. She needs her dad. She needs us.” Saturday morning, Tamaira dropped the bullshit act and recanted her story. Daisja hadn’t been kidnapped at all…in fact, she was dead. Here’s the real story…

On June 8, Alandus picked her up from work, but Daisja wasn’t with him. Tamaira asked him where the baby was, and he said he had bathed the child and left her home alone.  When they arrived back at their apartment, Tamaira found the Daisja’s lifeless body wrapped in a towel on the floor. When she asked Alandus what happened, he grew violent. When she attempted to call police, he stopped her and told her they had to “stick together.” They would just tell everyone Daisja had been kidnapped. With that plan in place, Alandus picked Tamaira up from work the following day, drove to Lewisville Lake, stopped on a bridge, tied a sandbag to the baby’s body, and tossed it in. Tamaira, who is 6 months pregnant, told police she went along with the plan because she feared Alandus. The arrest affidavit does not mention the cause of death and little Daisja’s body still hasn’t been recovered.

Alandus Weaver, 21, and Tamaira Creagh, 19, are both being held on charges of tampering with evidence. Police say more charges are likely, pending the outcome of the search and investigation.

Philadelphia, PA–It started with a call to 911…Bonnie Sweeten informed a dispatcher that the SUV she and her daughter were in had been rear-ended by a Cadillac. Following the accident, two black men exited their vehicle, grabbed Sweeten and her daughter, shoved them in the Caddie’s trunk, and sped off…and that’s where she was calling from. An Amber Alert was issued for Sweeten’s 9-year-old daughter, Julia Rakoczy, and the troops were called out to begin the search. Scary shit, huh?

Well, it would be scary…if it weren’t bullshit. From the very beginning, the whole thing just smelled bad. It started with the discovery of Sweeten’s vehicle, which was found just five blocks from where police first traced the frantic phone call. Her SUV had a parking ticket on the windshield that had been stamped at 2:20 p.m., 20 minutes after the first call to 911. Not only that, the vehicle was undamaged. Authorities confirmed that the 911 call was not made from the Philadelphia suburb where she lived, but 25 miles away, in Center City. That 20 minutes between the initial 911 call and the time stamp on the ticket would make for an incredibly tight time frame to get from the suburban town to the middle of the city.

More cracks started to appear…it was discovered that Sweeten may have been experiencing some financial issues. In the last week, she has withdrawn about $12,000 from various banks. Sweeten’s former employer, Debbie Carlitz, a personal injury lawyer who runs a charitable fund for autistic research, is missing some cash from that fund, the amount missing is said to be in the six-figure range. Curious. Oh, and did I mention that about an hour after the alleged kidnapping occurred, airport surveillance video shows Sweeten using another woman’s identity to buy a couple of one-way tickets to Florida? One for her, and one for her daughter.

That’s where authorities caught up with her, about 30 hours after the hoax was set into motion. Bonnie Sweeten, 38, was taken into custody at the Grand Floridian Hotel on the grounds of the Walt Disney World Resort. She was booked as a fugitive and is being held without bail in the Orange County Jail in Florida. She will be sent back to Philadelphia to face misdemeanor charges of making false reports, identity theft, and whatever other charges they can throw at her. When Sweeten fled with her daughter, she left behind a husband, a 15-year-old daughter and an 8-month-old daughter. Julia has been returned, safe and sound, to her father.

San Bernardino, California–According to authorities, 3-year-old Briant Rodriguez was kidnapped after two gunmen broke into his family’s home Sunday afternoon. Briant is described as being Hispanic, 3-feet tall, and weighing 40 pounds, with brown eyes and long, curly brown hair. He was wearing a yellow shirt, blue-striped shorts and black sandals when he was taken.

The armed men entered the home through the front door at about 2:30 p.m., tied up Briant’s mother and his four siblings, and ransacked the home. After taking some cash and other property, one of the gunmen grabbed Briant and told the family, ‘Don’t call the police.’ An Amber Alert was issued about 9 hours later. Briant’s father was not home at the time, and his mother told authorities she didn’t know either of the gunmen.

The first suspect was described as approximately 18-years-old, thin and 5′ 10″. He was wearing a black ball cap, blue jeans and a green t-shirt. The second suspect was described as a skinny male, 24-years-old, also 5′ 10″. He was wearing all black, with the exception of a white bandana. Both were described as light-skinned. There is no vehicle description. Anyone with information is asked to contact the San Bernardino Sheriff’s Office at (866) 346-7632. This is eerily similar to the Cole Puffinburger case.

Passaic, New Jersey–Police and family members blame it on crack–friends blame it on mental instability–whatever the excuse, Juan Mendez, 21, lost his friggin’ mind Saturday morning. In a rage, he grabbed his neice, 3-year-old Janiya Rivas, stormed out of the house, and with a cryptic farewell, he was gone. ‘Watch the 6:00 news tonight, you’ll see what’s going on,’ he told his family before he sped off with the child in his car. Just hours later, little Janiya’s body was found floating in the Passaic River.

Eileen Mendez, Janiya’s mother, was out looking for her child when she happened across Juan’s car. It had been abandoned, with both doors wide open, on the Gregory Avenue bridge…Juan and Janiya were nowhere in sight. An Amber Alert was issued and a search of the river was conducted. The alert was canceled at 9:00 a.m. Janiya’s body had been found downriver. Authorities believe Juan tossed the child off the bridge and either jumped in behind her, or fled on foot.

The search for Juan intensified. Police water-rescue teams dragged the river looking for Juan’s body. At about 1:30 p.m., after more than a mile of the river was dragged, the search was called off. The search boats were back in the water later that evening, watching for a body to surface. ‘There’s a good possibility he’s still in the water, and we’ll have people checking the shorelines over the next couple of days,’ said Bill Maer, a spokes­man for the Passaic County Sheriff’s Department. ‘Of course, we’re working with Passaic and other city departments, looking for him in all the places he may have gone, but it looks like he possibly drowned in the river,’ he said. I will continue to update this story as more details are revealed.

CANCELED – Je-ni Cushondra Scott told her father that she managed to escape from a home on the south end of Grandville Street, and he picked her up near Warren and Evergreen at about 11:50 a.m. today, Detroit Police Det. Sgt. James Graham said.

Detroit - An Amber Alert has been issued for 13-year-old Je-ni Cushondra Scott from Detroit. Her father states he dropped her off at a bus stop near Grand River Ave. and Greenfield Rd. at 7:30 a.m. Monday. He later received a text message from her in which she texted she was locked in a basement of a house on Grandville Road. He then received nine text messages from her in a two hour time span that included her texting that her battery was dying.

Anyone with information should call Detroit Police at 313-596-5640 or 911 immediately. She was last seen wearing an Academy of Westland uniform yellow shirt and a brown and white plaid skirt with blue jeans underneath. Of course, there are already people speculating, including the possibility that the teen is lying to get out of some sort of trouble. Others are pissed that the name of the road the house is supposedly located was reported by the press. Either way, if she is locked in a basement or not, this girl is in some trouble and needs to be located.

BRADENTON, Florida – On Monday, migrant worker Rosa Sirilo-Francisco was at the Hillsborough County Health Department with her 2-month-old daughter Sandra Cruz-Francisco for a routine checkup. She was approached by a woman, 43-year-old Amalia Tabata Pereira, who informed her that she was an immigration official and that they were at their home waiting to deport them to Mexico. If Sandra was handed over, Amalia told Sirilo-Francisco, she could stay in the United States.

Sirilo-Francisco left the clinic with Amalia and they rode to a nearby Sweetbay Supermarket, where Amalia informed the mother that she would help her avoid deportation. This would involve Amalia taking Sanda to Miami and then giving the girl back at 8 a.m. Thursday. Siril0-Francisco believed Amalia and handed her baby over to a stranger. When Sirilo-Francisco told a relative in Georgia what had happened, that person informed her that while our government may be a bit fucked up in some areas, it isn’t THAT fucked up. Sandra was then reported missing and an Amber Alert issued.

10 hours later, Amalia turned the baby over to Manatee County Sheriff’s Department, unharmed. She met officials at a strip mall in Bradenton after calling a tip line anonymously. She is now in jail on a 75,000 bond facing child custody, kidnapping, false imprisonment and child abuse charges. Her husband is Jose Tabata, 20, a top Pittsburgh Pirates prospect acquired from the New York Yankees’ organization in last year’s Xavier Nady/Damaso Marte trade. While his wife has invoked the right to remain silent, Jose released the following statement on Wednesday: “I was shocked to be told today that my wife has been arrested for kidnapping. I am hurt, frustrated, and confused by her actions. I have and will continue to cooperate with law enforcement officials in any way that I can. Until I have all of the facts, I cannot comment any further.”

The baby has since been reunited with her parents, and ICE has launched an investigation into Sirilo-Francisco’s immigration status as well as the baby’s father, Andres Cruz, 29. In 1999 Amalia Tabata Pereira was arrested for grand theft, forgery, arson, filing a false report and using an alias. Court records show she created fake accounts while working at Paycheck Advance, where she stole $20,000. She then staged a fire to hide her activities.

Esme Kenney

Cincinnati, OH–The lovely young lady you see above is 13-year-old Esme Kenney. Esme, the baby of the family, was a seventh-grader who attended the School for Creative & Performing Arts. A gifted child, she was a vocal music major and an instrumental music major. She sang in the choir and played the cello in the junior high orchestra. She loved talking on the phone, playing cello, and doing homework.

Esme went out for a jog on Saturday…she never made it back home.

Esme was last seen jogging Saturday afternoon at 3:45 p.m., when she failed to return, her frantic parents called police. The police issued a missing person’s report at 10:00 p.m. A search party was organized. Police didn’t suspect foul play until they came across a man in the woods. That man was 40-year-old Anthony Kirkland. He immediately became a person of interest in Esme’s disappearance. After an initial interview with Kirkland, officials immediately feared for Esme’s safety…an Amber Alert was issued at 1:00 a.m.

At around 3:30 a.m. Sunday morning, a K9 unit discovered Esme’s lifeless body. Details surrounding her death are not being released.

Kirkland went from being a person of interest to being charged in connection with the death of Esme. No stranger to law enforcement, Kirkland had an open warrant for his arrest for threatening a woman with steak knives on March 5. In 2007, Kirkland was found guilty of putting a knife to the throat of an 18-month-old child…that same year, he was accused of exposing himself and soliciting sex from a 13-year-old girl. He was convicted of the latter charge in March of 2008 and was jailed until October 2008. Kirkland was considered a Level I sex offender. Since 2005, he has been charged but acquitted of public indecency, inducing panic, endangering children, rape and aggravated burglary. Nice to know this guy was allowed to walk freely…..

Add another charge to that laundry list of bad deeds…murder. I hope you fry, Anthony Kirkland.

Allison Corrales & Luis F. Corrales

Authorities have described Luis Corrales as a person of interest in the “homicide/abduction” investigation of Allyson’s mother,  Katia Lainez, 27. Lainez late last year was granted an order of protection against Corrales in Jackson County. She alleged that Corrales threatened her after she told him she was ending their relationship. She said he also had threatened to take the girl and kill himself if she left him. Along with granting the protection order, a judge ordered Corrales to make monthly child support payments.

Lainez had sole custody of Allyson Corrales. Lainez’s family said she feared Luis Corrales and that he was a very jealous person. He had been visiting a relative and working in San Antonio, but came back to Kansas City to visit his daughter on Sunday.

Orlando Melgar, Lainez’s brother-in-law, discovered Lainez’s body Friday morning. Melgar said his wife had last talked to Lainez on Wednesday night. Lainez told her in the phone conversation that Corrales knocked on her apartment door and she let him in. Melgar said his wife talked to Lainez while Corrales was in the apartment.

As Thursday wore on, Melgar’s wife grew more concerned. She drove that night to Lainez’s apartment and noticed that her sister’s vehicle was gone and the lights to her apartment were off. When Melgar’s wife failed to reach Lainez again Friday morning, she sent him to the apartment to check on her. Melgar said he told the apartment manager of their concerns and the manager allowed them into the unit. Melgar saw Lainez lying in bed, as if she were asleep. The bed covers were pulled partly over her body and completely covered her face. Melgar touched his sister-in-law and her flesh was cold. He didn’t see any obvious wounds on her body. “I didn’t see blood or anything too,” Melgar said. “I don’t know how. I don’t know how.”

Police said Corrales reportedly has relatives in Houston and Manassa, Va. Anyone with information is asked to call the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS (8477).

Yreka, CA–A parent’s worst nightmare became reality for Ryan Collins and his wife, April Smith. At around 4:30 Monday morning, the couple awoke to the sound of their 3-year-old daughter, Francis, screaming. They ran to the child’s room and found her bed empty.  The sound of a car starting could be heard…Collins ran outside and saw a man pulling out of the driveway, with Francis in the back seat of his car.

That man was 22-year-old Kody Kaplon. The parents say Kaplon is a family acquaintance and they’ve known him for years. They said he was staying at their apartment after having an argument with his wife. They never believed he could do something like this. After all, he is a parent himself. An Amber Alert was issued.

Kaplon had seen the alert and at about 2:00 p.m Monday, he called Yreka police through the Amber Alert line and asked why they were looking for him. Authorities located him in Hornbook and arrested him on suspicion of kidnapping.

A short time later, in the same general area, a group of friends found Francis walking down a service road about 15 miles out of Yreka. She was wearing nothing but a soaked T-shirt. As they were driving her out, they ran across a California Highway Patrol officer and the child was handed over to him. The girl was taken to Fairchild Medical Center in Yreka for treatment. After the child was treated and interviewed, it was discovered that she had been molested.

Kody Kaplon is now charged with kidnapping, attempted murder, false imprisonment, taking or holding a child without right of custody, willful cruelty to a child, committing a sexual crime against a child, burglary, and violation of probation. He is currently being held in the Siskiyou County Jail on $1 million bail.

CHP says the car Kaplon was driving got stuck in the mountains. He left the little girl alone, to fend for herself. Had she not been found, chances are, she wouldn’t have made it through the night.

Putnam County, FL - I usually deal with fear and disgust by hiding behind humour, it works well for me most of the time. As I read about missing Florida girl, Haleigh Cummings, I feel a chill that no humour can mask. This makes writing far more difficult for me, no emotional buffers. At approximately 3:30 am yesterday morning, 5 year old Haleigh Cummings of Hermit’s Cove, FL was not in her bed when her father’s girlfriend checked on her shortly before her father arrived home from work.  In fact, she was nowhere to be found at all.  By 11:00 am an Amber Alert had been issued by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.

I want to say that something feels incredibly wrong here, but that what could possibly feel right? Still, things don’t add up in my head, I feel as though I am being fed a maggot infested diseased shit sandwich disguised as a simple cow patty. What makes it worse is that the facts seem to be different depending on the time and the news source.

While Haleigh’s father was at work, his 17-year-old girlfriend, Misty Croslin, was watching Haleigh and her little brother. Croslin put Haleigh to bed at around 8 p.m. Croslin, who went to bed at around 10 p.pm, states she woke up at 3 a.m. to use the bathroom and discovered Haleigh was not in her bed, but her brother was. She could not find the girl in the double-wide trailer, and then called 911. During this phone call, Haleigh’s father returns home from work. Here is a partial transcript of the phone call:

CALLER: I just woke up and my back door was all open and I can’t find my daughter.
DISPATCH: Can’t find what?
CALLER: My daughter.
DISPATCH:Ok. When did you last see her?
CALLER: Um, we just like, you know, it was about 10 o’clock. She was sleeping (inaudible).
DISPATCH: Ok. How old is your daughter?
CALLER: She’s 5.
DISPATCH: OK. What was she last seen wearing, Ma’am?
CALLER: She was in her pajamas. We were sleeping.
DISPATCH: OK. Alright, you said your back door was wide open?
CALLER: Yes, with a brick. Like, there was a brick on the floor. Like, when I went to sleep the door was not like that.
DISPATCH: Was your back door locked do you know?
CALLER: Yes. The back door always stays locked.
FATHER: I just got home from work, my 5-year-old daughter is gone. I need someone to be here now. I’m telling you. If I find whoever has my daughter before you all do, I’m killing him. I don’t care. I’ll spend the rest of my life in prison.
DISPATCH: It’s OK sir, we got them on the way. Can you give me a description of the pajamas she was wearing?
FATHER: I don’t (expletive) know I was at work.

Police are treating everyone as suspects, investigating those closest to Haleigh, as well as the 45 registered sexual offenders listed as living within a 5 mile radius. (Perhaps its past time to move?) Haleigh Cummings, nicknamed Doodlebug, is 5 years and 5 months old, she is white with dirty blonde hair, she has brown eyes, weighs 39 lbs, is 3 feet tall and was last seen in her bedroom with her 2 year old brother, wearing a pink shirt and underwear. I’d also like to point out that she has the sweetest smile.

Putnam County deputies, officers from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the Volusia, Marion and Flagler Sheriff’s Offices are searching the local area with helicopters, boats and search dogs, the case is currently considered an abduction and at this point Texas Equusearch has also joined the hunt. Police have also spoken with Haleigh’s mother, 23 year old Crystal Sheffield who was at home in MacClenny, FL at the time of the abduction. She is not considered a suspect, and as all family members in this case has been co-operative with investigators.

Update - There was some confusion, or at least some inconsistencies, with the different news reports coming out yesterday. Especially in regards to where the three were sleeping, if the brick was propping the door open or just on the ground and if Croslin was awakened by Ronald when he returned home. But as of this morning, it seems as if these new details are correct:

• The 17-year-old was sleeping in the same room as Haleigh and her 2-year-old brother, Ronald Cummings Jr.
• It was a cinder block that was being used to prop open the back door.
• When Ronald returned home, Croslin was already awake and on the phone with 911

Seminole County, FL–Julinia Moreno’s nomination for Mother of the Year has just been ripped to pieces, set on fire, stomped on, and flushed down the toilet. So, don’t be looking for her at the award ceremony.

Moreno, 24, wanted to party Saturday night but couldn’t find a sitter. No problem. She placed her 1-year-old son, Jamir Worgs, into his car seat, went to the party, left the car running, and left him alone in the car. He sat out there alone, for hours…while she partied. That’s only the beginning of this twisted tale of tardism.

At about 3:00 a.m., while Moreno was in the house gettin’ her groove on, a friend of hers asked if he could borrow her car. Joshua Barnes, 24, needed to make a drug run. ‘Suuuure, you can borrow my car. It’s even warmed up!’ Barnes hopped into the car, and with Jamir still sitting in the back, drove a few blocks to a known drug house. Thinking he was gonna be quick about it, Barnes left the car running in the street. Enter 36-year-old David Carver.

Carver, a convicted thief and burglar, came across an opportunity he just couldn’t pass up. Sitting right there in the street is a 2006 Nissan Altima, engine running and rarin’ to go! So, he hopped in and took off. He eventually realized he had a little passenger in the back seat. Being the class act that he is, Carver grabbed the seat and the child and dumped them both in someone’s front yard in Longwood. He went on his merry little way.

I don’t know when Moreno finally figured out her car, and her child, weren’t coming back…but at about 6:45 a.m., an Amber Alert was issued. Deputies found the Altima at a Wal-Mart in Sanford at 7 a.m. There was no baby. After tracking down the occupants of the car, deputies learned that Carver had traded the Altima for drugs. The occupants of the car also told deputies where they could find Carver. But where was the baby?

At 7:45 a.m., Lupita Jimenez was getting ready to go to church. Heading out to start her car, she noticed an empty car seat and heard a child crying. It was Jamir. ‘He was just sitting there and when he saw me he just got up and walked toward me,’ she says. ‘He just gave me his arms, and I was like, ‘where’s your mommy?’ If that boy could talk, I’m sure he would’ve had a wonderful tale to tell about his fucktard mother.

Jamir had been crawling around in the wet grass, in the dark, for hours. The temp that night hovered around 40-degrees. He hadn’t had a diaper change since his mother forgot about him. He was cold and cranky. Jiminez called 911 to report that she had found the child. Thank you Lupita Jiminez for not being a psychopathic baby killer/rapist. Little Jamir was rushed to South Seminole Hospital and was thoroughly checked out. He is in state custody while authorities determine if Moreno is fit to keep her son.

The trio of tards was rounded up and arrested. Julinia Moreno is faced with felony child neglect and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. Her bond is a whoppin’ $500. Joshua Barnes is being charged with child neglect without great harm. For some reason, his bail is set much higher, $2,000. And David Carver is looking at grand theft auto, and neglect of a child without great harm. His bail is $1,100? WTF? Additional charges of aggravated child neglect are still possible for Moreno and Barnes. A charge of kidnapping is still possible for Carver. Hope that was a helluva party Julinia…stupid.

UPDATE 10/26/08 – Paige and Levi have been found and their parents are en route to pick them up in Council Bluffs, Iowa, where they were spotted under an overpass. The car Levi had stolen from his parents was abandoned in Omaha, Nebraska, and the pair had only sleeping bags for shelter.  They have been taken to juvie, where they are awaiting their parents.  I’m guessing that somebody’s gonna get grounded.  We at the Demon are always happy for a happy ending – and a safe recovery is very happy indeed.   Score another one for the D’D Amber Alert tradition, and good lookin’ out to the person who spotted them.  Yay!

Lathrop, MO - Christina Paige Alley, 14, and Levi Samuel Carlson, 16, are missing.  They were last seen at a high school football game in Lathrop, Missouri nearly a week ago.   The pair was seen at the football game, and Paige Alley got permission to go home after the band performed at halftime.  Paige and Levi have not been seen since, and the credit cards they each had have not been used in the five days since they disappeared. 

The teenagers were last seen between 7:00 and 8:00 p.m. last Friday night.  They were in a maroon 1996 Toyota Avalon with Missouri license PD0 A5U.   Both sets of parents called police when neither teen got home on Friday night.  And Paige, who “always calls”… hasn’t.  Neither teen has a driver’s license or much experience driving a car.  And Levi is bipolar – and off his meds.  Great.

At first, police felt that the pair had run off together  after what they call “an altercation with parents” – perhaps to Colorado or California or even to Arkansas.  But five days have now passed with no sign of the pair.  Five days with no calls home, no credit cards, and nobody who’s spotted the car. One alleged sighting in Missouri today turned out to be a false alarm.

Major John Farmer of the Clinton County Sheriff’s Department says that the Missouri Highway Patrol was asked twice to issue an Amber Alert for the couple, beginning as early as Friday night.  The Alerts were denied the first two times because they didn’t meet Amber Alert criteria to prove an abduction had taken place. The Amber Alert finally was issued because of new information that Levi had threatened suicide before taking Paige from the game.  She is now considered a victim of kidnapping, and authorities are concerned for her safety.

Christina “Paige” Alley is 5′2″ and 130 pounds with brown hair and blue eyes.  She was last seen wearing a blue shirt with black pants and sandals and has a round birth mark on her hip.

Levi Samuel Carlson is 5′10″ and 225 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes.  He took his guitar with him, which he may have pawned for cash.  He may be headed towards Arkansas, Colorado or California.

I know, I know, it’s runaway teenagers, right?  Well, kind of.  But when we post an Amber Alert, the missing child is usually found safe and unharmed within hours or, at most, days.  It’s a public service, just one of many we offer here at the Dreamin’ Demon.  Here’s hoping for Paige and Levi’s safe return.

UPDATE 10/19/08 -Cole Puffinburger has been found SAFE in Las Vegas.

At about 11:30 EST last night, a citizen called police about a little boy walking the streets in Las Vegas. When police arrived to get the child, they found that he was Cole Puffinburger. Cole was taken to a hospital to be checked out but appears to be relatively unharmed, at least physically. Details at the bottom of this article.

Las Vegas, NV - Early Wednesday morning, six-year-old Cole Puffinburger was kidnapped from his Las Vegas home by two or three armed Hispanic men posing as police officers. At least, that’s the story police got when they were called yesterday by Cole’s mother.

She reported that three men had knocked on the door of the family home at about 7:15 a.m. and identified themselves as police. When she let the men into the home, they demanded money from Cole’s grandfather, who hasn’t lived in the home since 2007. When told that the grandfather did not live at the home, the men tied up Cole, his mother, and her boyfriend, and ransacked the house. When they didn’t find money, the mother reported, the men took her son at gunpoint.

Um.. what?

Thing is, this crime happened in a well populated area. As Steve Huff pointed out at his blog, that neighborhood is not exactly rural. And we’re expected to believe that nobody saw three Hispanic guys rolling around with a towhead-blond six year old little boy? Something’s rotten in Vegas, kids.  Particularly since nobody has been able to describe a getaway vehicle, or even determine for sure whether there were two guys, or three.

Only one suspect was even been described last night. He’s said to be in his thirties, 5′7″, 150 pounds, Hispanic with slicked-back shoulder-length dark hair and brown eyes, wearing jeans and a white t-shirt, and speaks with a Mexican accent. Just this morning, a vague description of the second abductor was released: early thirties, 5′9″, with a thin build, wearing a tan, red and brown shirt with vertical stripes. It’s not known what role, if any, the third guy played in Cole’s kidnapping. At this point he is described only as Hispanic or Latino.

An Amber Alert took several hours to issue because there wasn’t even a marginal suspect description until noon yesterday. The Alert now encompasses southern Nevada and parts of California and New Mexico. And Cole Puffinburger has vanished into the desert air, it seems. With no vehicle description, it’s like this little boy has dropped off the face of the earth.

Is it possible that armed men showed up at the house, demanded money, and kidnapped a child at gunpoint? Sure, it’s possible, if someone owed enough money to the wrong people, or if the child had been spotted from a distance some time before. Is it likely? My Imp-sense says there’s more to this story than we’ve heard.

Cole Puffinburger is six years old. He’s 3 feet, 11 inches tall and weighs about 48 pounds. His mother says he was last seen wearing a black John Cena t-shirt under a black hoodie sweatshirt with skulls on it, dark jeans, and black Vans tennis shoes. He also had on his silver-rimmed glasses. Cole has blond hair and blue eyes. If you see him, call 911.

UPDATE 10/17/08 - Police now say that there is a “significant drug link” between the family of Cole Puffinburger and the alleged kidnappers. Steve broke it before the press did, but police say that they are looking for Clemens F. Tinnemeyer, Jr. – Cole’s grandfather – in connection with Cole’s abduction. Apparently Grandpa Tinnemeyer owes a drug cartel somewhere between $8 million and $20 million dollars. Well, there’s your motive, denizens.  As of this afternoon, Cole has not been located.

UPDATE 10/18/08 – Clemens F. Tinnemeyer, Jr. has been arrested in Riverside, California. Tinnemeyer has been called a “person of interest” in Cole’s abduction, which is believed to be a “message” sent to Tinnemeyer by the cartel. Cole remains missing. Federal agents say they are hopeful that Cole is still alive.

Now that Cole is safe, the investigation into his kidnapping will continue, along with the investigation into the drug ring and extortion that sparked Cole’s abduction. Jesus Gastelum remains a person of interest in the case. No word yet on what will happen to Cole’s grandfather, Clemens Tinnemeyer. He is not a suspect in his grandson’s kidnapping but was being held as a material witness due to his theft of millions of dollars from the drug dealers that took the boy.

Detroit, MI – Two-year-old Tangena Hussain of Hamtramck, Michigan, was last seen at 8:45 on Thursday evening at the Marathon Gas Station in Detroit. Or was she? Her mother’s boyfriend (but not Tangena’s father) Jamrul Hussain, 27, says that Tangena was in the back seat of his car when he stopped at the gas station to buy candy and juice for the child. They were on their way to pick up Tangena’s mother, Nilufa Begum, from work at Northland Mall.

When Jamrul Hussain got back to his car, he said, Tangena was gone. But rather than call police or alert the store personnel, Hussain went to pick up Begum as scheduled, telling her that he would “take her to her daughter”. Instead, he took Begum back to the place where he said he lost her baby girl. Sound familiar, anyone?

Nilufa Begum did was innocent mothers do when their babies disappear. She freaked out and insisted on calling the police.

“I was asking, ‘Where’s my daughter; tell me where’s my daughter?’ and he couldn’t even say anything,” Nilufa Begum told a television reporter. “He said, ‘I will tell you; just come with me,’ and he took me to the gas station.”

When they got to the station, Nilufa Begum said that her boyfriend told her he had left Tangena strapped into his red Geo Prizm while he went inside earlier that evening. When he came out, he said, she was just gone. Begum asked Hussain why he hadn’t called police, and he answered that he was afraid and wanted to get her from work first. Which sounds patently like bullshit to me, and I don’t think anyone else is buying it, either.

The mother was distraught, but the guy just didn’t really seem, well, his face was blank. It was more like an everyday occurrence to him,” said one witness, Frederick Panell. I wouldn’t have thought that something was wrong if the mother wasn’t as hysterical and crying as she was.”

Unfortunately, there was a “technical glitch” with the surveillance tapes, and the elder Hussain managed to park in the one area where the cameras weren’t working. There’s no evidence of any abduction – but there’s no evidence disputing Hussain’s claim, either. Nobody saw Tangena at the Marathon on Thursday night. If Hussain went inside to buy candy as he claims, was he indulging a toddler, or establishing an alibi?

Police held Jamrul Hussain for questioning after Tangena’s disappearance, but have so far developed no leads – at least, not any that they’re sharing. But once Jamrul Hussain hit the news, Detroit got a call that identified Hussain as the attacker in a February sexual assault case with a young victim. That case had been reported, but the perpetrator had not been caught. His victim saw him on television and identified him after Tangena’s disappearance.

Jamrul Hussain has now been arrested for sexual assault case against a minor. He is currently being questioned at the Hamtramck Police Department and will likely be charged in that case. And if you ask me, I think he’s good for Tangena’s disappearance, too. I hope that she will be found, but it doesn’t look good, does it?

An Amber Alert has been issued for Tangena Hussain in Michigan. Tangena, 2, has short brown hair and big brown eyes and is of East Indian descent. She was last seen wearing white cargo pants and a long sleeved brown knit t-shirt with a cartoon character on it and gold sandals. Tangena is around 3 feet, 2 inches tall and weighs 34 pounds. She has a scar from a burn on her upper lip and chin. Anyone with information should call Detroit police
