OCOEE, Fla. – At the same time Jose Baez was convincing a Florida jury that Casey Anthony did not murder her child, another defense attorney was in the same building trying to convince a jury that Billy Bob Thorton’s estranged daughter was not responsible for the death of her best friend’s 1-year-old daughter.
Back in October 2008, 32-year-old Amanda Brumfield was charged with murder after her best friend’s baby, Olivia Madison Garcia, died in her care. Garcia died after suffering a 3.5-inch fracture of her skull and bleeding on the brain.
Brumfield would tell investigators that the injury was caused by the girl falling out of her crib, but that after the fall the child seemed fine and even ate a banana. She explained the little girl’s lack of distress was the reason why she did not call for help until nearly two hours after the alleged fall, even sending her mother a text saying “Olivia can climb out of her playpen but has learned … she has perfected the landing.”
During the trial, the prosecution would argue there was no way Garcia would have suffered such a massive head injury from the short fall distance Brumfield described, and that it had to come from some other method.…

Scranton, PA — Lori Gardner, 26, and Brian Sleboda, 31, are behind bars after neighbors discovered Gardner’s diaper-clad 7-year-old son locked in a dark, bug-infested basement late last month.
Police responded to the couple’s home on Sept. 26 after neighbors reportedly found the crying boy in a basement doorway – he was wearing nothing but a t-shirt and a diaper.
“Are you here to help me?” he asked when officers arrived.
According to the criminal complaint, the child told officers that his stepfather ordered him to the basement and locked him in the homemade coffin after he came home from school that afternoon. Police say Sleboda propped a chair against the coffin door to prevent it from being opened, but he was able to push the lid off and escape. The child said Sleboda had used duct tape to keep it closed in the past. 
The child went on to say that his parents “often” punished him by forcing him into the dimly lit basement right after telling him that ghosts live there.…

NORTH HOLLYWOOD, Calif. – A California woman is facing some legal issues after police say she drunkenly flipped her vehicle with her 4-year-old inside and then tried to flee the scene without her kid.
Reports are that early Wednesday morning, the woman crashed her car into some parked cars causing her to roll her vehicle on its roof.
Neighbors say that when they heard the crash they came out and helped pull the woman’s unrestrained child out of the car as her drunk mother was running around asking where her other children where.
Neighbors then began searching underneath cars and around the general area fearing that there may be possible victims who were ejected from the vehicle, but would not find anyone.
I’m guessing it was during this time that the woman tried to leave the scene through a neighboring field without her child. Police would catch her a block away and arrest her on suspicion of drunk driving and child endangerment. Neither she nor her child suffered any life-threatening injuries.
Oh, and the ghost children the woman was looking for after the crash?…

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Police have arrested a man, charging him with punching his girlfriend’s 3-year-old son in the face, breaking his jaw.
I’m posting about 21-year-old Troy Woods, the “man” accused of breaking the kid’s face, not only because of what he did, but also to commend the kid’s grandparents for what they did afterwards.
When the boy’s grandparents first noticed the boy was lethargic and drooling blood, they rushed him to the hospital and then went to Woods’ apartment, where he had been babysitting the boy, in an attempt to gather evidence. They allegedly discovered a trash bag inside the dumpster that contained: a white belt with feces on it, a children’s undershirt with what appeared to be saliva-diluted blood stains, and several blood-stained napkins.
A case worker from the Indiana Department of Child Services was contacted by hospital staff after the boy was found to be suffering from bruising and scratches to the buttocks and hips, swelling to the face, bruising to the forearm and abrasions to the wrist.…

Winnipeg, CA — Back in 2009, Jaded brought you the original story of Nikita Eaglestick, 21. I encourage you to read it, but I will summarize here.
On Aug. 31, 2009, Eaglestick had been out of jail just three days after having been charged with charged with assault with a weapon, assault causing bodily harm, and 12 other charges related to an attack she had allegedly perpetrated on a woman using a screwdriver. Eagletrick was under court order to abstain from alcohol.
After admittedly drinking on that day, she headed to a Winnipeg house party where more alcohol would be served. It was… and she drank it.
According to court documents, at around 4:30AM, Eaglelick picked up 13-month-old Vanessa Houle – who was asleep on the couch – and took her outside. There, she started smashing the baby’s face against the sidewalk. She did not stop.
Thankfully, not long after a neighbor, Tyler Bilsborrow, stepped outside his family’s home for a cigarette when he heard what he described as “weird sounds, like screaming sounds.” Bilsborrow followed the sounds around the corner and saw Eaglehick beating a child.…

San Leandro, CA — A man previously investigated for abusing his young son was arrested Friday after police say he immersed the boy’s hand in boiling water.
Police say that during a scheduled monthly visit with his 2-year-old son Thursday, Dante Roberson, for some insane reason, held the child’s hand in boiling water for what is believed to be about five seconds.
Needless to say, the child lost some skin and has already undergone two reconstructive plastic surgeries to repair the damage to his hand.
“He [Roberson] said that the child put his hand in the hot water,” said San Leandro police Sgt. Mike Sobek. “But as the doctor noted, if you touch hot water, you pull your hand back pretty quickly.”
Back in 2009, the child’s mother accused Roberson of abusing the same child, who was about 9 months old at the time, but there was not enough evidence to charge him. And though she has custody of the toddler, she was not present at the home when the most recent incident occurred.…

MARYSVILLE, Wash. – Prosecutors have filed criminal charges against the teenage son of a Washington day care operator after three young girls say they were sexually assaulted at the all night day care.
Charging documents state that in April, a 4-year-old and a 10-year-old girl both told their families that 18-year-old Dakota Wilson had molested them while they slept. The older girl said it happened about 10 times prior, but she was afraid to report it because she thought she would get in trouble.
Then in May, another 5-year-old girl told her family that Wilson sexually assaulted her when she was in the bathroom and she was still suffering pain from the assault.
When questioned by police, Wilson initially denied the accusations, but would admit this wasn’t the first time he’d been accused of inappropriately touching young girls. He told them he had touched young girls sexually at his mother’s day care a year prior, when they lived in Idaho. He said he was able to curtail his urges to rape children by hanging out with friends and playing video games.…

NORTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. – I swear I thought we posted about this woman on our front page, but a search only shows a forum post by Dakota Valkyrie. Anyway, opening statements began on Friday for Kimberly Fry, the 38-year-old woman accused of murdering her 8-year-old daughter for not taking a bath.
Camden Fry was last seen alive by her father as he left for a hockey game back in August 2009 as she sat on the couch watching television with her mother. Later that evening, he would get a call from Fry stating that she was having problems getting their daughter to take a bath.
The next morning, Camden’s father would find her dead body in her bed and call 911. When officers arrived at the home, Fry told them that her daughter had fallen in the shower and that she had pulled her out and placed her in bed. Hours later, Fry was admitted to the intensive care unit.
While at the hospital, she admitted to an employee that she had killed her daughter.…

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK – Police have arrested a man they say was kicking his son in the stomach for making spelling mistakes at school.
Jacob Parnell has been charged with two counts of child abuse after a someone called police claiming that they had seen Parnell kicking the boy in the stomach or punching him in the sides whenever he made mistakes at school.
“(He) gets very mad at me when I do bad at school or if I talk too much at home,” the boy told police.
The witness also told police Parnell kicked his 3-year-old son in the back, knocking him to the ground and causing him to cut his lip.

COTTONWOOD, AZ – A woman has been arrested after she was caught wrapping packing tape around her son’s head and mouth in an act of frustration.
A man asked a deputy to check out a Suburban parked at a Circle K as he had seen a woman “duct taping” the mouth and hands of a small child.
The deputy walked over to the vehicle and calmly stood behind 42-year-old Samantha Lyons who was outside the rear passenger door of the vehicle wrapping a crying 7-year-old’s head with clear packing tape.
The child’s mouth was completely taped shut and another female in the front seat of the vehicle was reportedly yelling at Lyons to stop what she was doing.
When Lyons finished and shut the door, she turned around and saw the officer standing there and immediately began crying. She told the deputy that she was trying to quiet her kid and that she had just gotten frustrated.
With the help of another child in the vehicle, the tape was removed from the boy and he was checked for injuries.…

AURORA, Ind. – A homeless man has been charged with molesting the 3-year-old daughter of a family that had let him stay the night.
Police were called by a mother who claimed 42-year-old Eric White had inappropriately touched her toddler.
Police would determine that White, who is homeless, had stayed with the family overnight several times before and used those occasions to molest the girl at least five times.
White has been charged with attempted child molestation, as well as class A and class C felonies of child molestation.

Portland, OR — Olan Ladd was arrested late last week after police say he intentionally scalded his girlfriend’s toddler daughter.
The incident reportedly occurred early Wednesday morning. Ladd, who was caring for the child at the time, initially told police he “accidentally” spilled boiling water on the child’s feet. When mom arrived home that morning, she discovered the kid’s boiled tootsies and rushed her to the emergency room. The girl, just three months shy of her second birthday, was admitted with second-degree burns to both feet.
Questioned further, Ladd reportedly accepted responsibility for the child’s injuries, telling police he “messed up.”
According to police, the girl woke up at about 3:00 that morning. She wasn’t fussy, wasn’t crying, hadn’t wet the bed…she was just up. Ladd, apparently “frustrated with life,” decided to take that frustration out on the kid. He told police he “picked her up, turned on the water faucet and held her feet under the running hot water.” Court documents say Ladd told police the child was screaming in pain, trying to get away.…

The victim also described her burning his penis with a lighter and sodomizing him repeatedly with his own toothbrush. Police reports described another incident when the mother repeatedly burned the victim’s penis with a curling iron before tying a necklace around it causing it to bleed. The abuse was reported to have occurred between May of 2010 and August 22 of this year.
Are these the claims of an unhappy adopted child? It doesn’t sound like it. It was discovered during a forensic physical examination that the child had large scars on his pelvic area and legs, consistent with healed burns.…

Dallas, TX — Elizabeth Escalona was booked on child abuse charges Thursday after police say she brutally beat and tortured her 2-year-old daughter, Joselyn Cedillo, as punishment for a potty training accident.
Authorities claim Escalona grabbed Joselyn by her feet and dragged her from one room in the apartment to another. She then reportedly applied glue to the child’s hands and stuck them to the wall, leaving them there until they bled. Joselyn’s siblings told police they witnessed their mother hit the girl in the stomach with a jug of milk, kick her in the gut and beat her with a shoe and a belt.
When it was all over, Escalona called her mother in tears, saying something was wrong with Joselyn. By the time grandma arrived at the apartment, Joselyn was unconscious.
At the hospital, Joselyn was found to have glue and paint stuck to her palms. The skin on her hands had been torn away in places. She was beaten, bruised and broken. An aunt told News 8 that aside from the bruising, Joselyn had a concussion, broken ribs and a broken leg.…

LOUISVILLE, KY – A judge surprised everyone during the sentencing phase of a woman accused of killing her 8-month-old son by rejecting a plea deal the defense and prosecution had agreed upon.
First, here’s a little background. Back in 2010, police arrested Geneva Walters, accusing her being responsible for the drowning death of her son, Michael Cowherd. Police say Walters had given the boy adult-strength Tylenol before leaving him in the bathtub while she prepared formula, stopping short of placing a cinder block on the boy’s chest to keep him occupied.
She would be initially be charged with wanton endangerment and manslaughter, but earlier this year, Walters plead guilty to reckless homicide in a pretty sweet plea deal.
Both her defense and the prosecution had reached a plea agreement that would have Walters serving 60 days in jail and being placed on probation for five years. Not too bad for being an idiot who killed their kid.
Typically, judges will rule in favor of plea agreements, but Judge Stevens surprised everyone Thursday during sentencing when he bitch-slapped that plea deal into oblivion and then sentenced Walters to the maximum sentence of five years behind bars.…

DUBLIN, Ohio — Let me apologize upfront for the obscene visual of a mother performing sexual acts on her 10-month-old son that I just now put in your head, but that’s exactly what the news is reporting one Ohio woman did — in front of a camera.
Police say that on August 30, 24-year-old Ashley Jessup recorded herself performing sexual acts on her baby, then sent the video to her boyfriend in Michigan.
That man’s former girlfriend found the video and contacted police who arrested Jessup the next day. Police say she did admit to the crime.
She’s now facing life in prison if convicted on two counts of rape, one count of endangering children and one count of pandering sexually oriented matter involving a minor.
Spontaneous applause from strangers broke out in the courtroom after the charges against her were read.
She’ll be back in court on Monday for her arraignment so I’m sure we will have more details then.
Police are also reviewing the information to see if there will be any charges filed against the boyfriend, who already has had some equipment seized from his home.…

Speedway, IN — Latoya Price’s inability to STFU earned her a shiny new wardrobe accessory Monday night after she was seen beating her 7-year-old daughter with a belt at a bus stop.
Several witnesses reportedly witnessed the beating, which, according to Price, was dealt because the child had taken a pack of gum from a nearby gas station.
When police arrived, the kid was in tears and 28-year-old Price was livid. She was screaming at the child, and though she was continually asked to lower her voice, she kept on ranting and raving at the responding officers.
Price admitted to hitting the child with the belt, and when an officer suggested that the bus stop may not be the best location to discipline her child, she reportedly poked the kid in the forehead and said, “Fine, I’ll beat you when we get home.”

Arvada, CO - Angela Martin, a Colorado mother, has been charged for allegedly handcuffing her 14-year-old daughter after an early morning fight last Sunday about Facebook.
The dispute reportedly began after the teen’s parents arrived home at about 2AM. Police reports document Martin’s claim that her daughter posted the words “vagina, vagina, vagina” as her Facebook status. When her daughter’s status displayed in her news feed – presumably, on her phone – she asked her daughter to remove the status.
Martin claims her daughter refused to delete the status or hand over her account password. Judging on this alone, Martin’s daughter’s position in the teenager’s union appears secure.
“I tried to take her computer, we got in a scuffle. I realized that there was no way that I was going to be able to control her. I handcuffed her and I came back upstairs to call the police. And when I went downstairs she was gone, she had ran to a neighbors in her handcuffs. But no, I don’t beat my children, so hopefully that doesn’t come out that way,” Martin reportedly said.…

Not to be upstaged by the Arizona dad who refereed an unfair fight between his sons and another teen while threatening the crowd with a handgun, 35-year-old Gary Johnson has been charged with refereeing a fight between his son and another teen, then beating the teen after his son loses the fight.
Police say Johnson’s son and a 16-year-old were involved in a dispute and he had agreed to referee a fight between the two to make sure it was a fair fight. Video shows Johnson’s son eventually quitting the fight and walking away.
Johnson and the winning teen then go face-to-face with Johnson asking the boy if he wants to get knocked the f*ck out. The teen doesn’t back down and tells Johnson he would like to see that, right before Johnson punches him in the face and knocks him to the ground.
While the teen lies in the fetal position and covers his head, Johnson moves the boy’s hands and rains down a series of hammer blows to the teen’s face.…

Flint, MI – The mother of 4-year-old Dominick Calhoun, the boy who was tortured to death over the course of four days, will spend the next 13 to 30 years in prison after she pleads guilty to second-degree murder.

Last April, 4-year-old Dominick was sitting on a couch eating cereal when he accidentally wet his pants. His mother’s boyfriend, 24-year old Brandon Hayes, became enraged and began beating the boy. Over the course of four days Hayes would punch, kick, and burn Dominick. He would even stick his thumbs in the little boy’s eyes.
Dominick’s mother, Corrine Baker, would also become the recipient of some of Hayes’ abuse, but at no time did she ever alert anyone that Dominick was being severely beaten even though she had multiple chances to do so and her friends were urging her to call police.…
