Madison, NC – Friday night, Rockingham County sheriff’s deputies were called to the home shared by William Holden Ellis, 19, Kathy Owens Robinson, 41, and their 11-month-old child. (Yeah, I caught that, too. Robinson is old enough to be Ellis’s mother. At least he’s legal.)
The call came after Ellis assaulted and threatened to kill Robinson. As Robinson told police, Ellis became upset–over what, we do not know–and hit her. He strangled her. Tucson, AZ – It’s a relatively common phenomenon–someone signs an agreement for a rental storage unit, gets assigned a space, stows his stuff…and then doesn’t keep up with the payments. It happened in Tucson at a rental facility called the U-Store-It, and in February 2007, the unit in question got cleaned out.
Among other items, employees found a plastic tub. A plastic tub that smelled horrible. The tub and the unit’s other contents went into the trash dumpster. Apparently at least one employee worried over that tub overnight, because the next day, police were called to investigate.…

UPDATE 8/24/08 – Police have issued a warrant for Luis Gonzalez, 22, on a charge of leaving the scene of a vehicle accident involving a fatality. He has not been charged with murder in Tia Poklemba’s death but was seen leaving the bar with her on the night of her death. Gonzalez also owned the tan Cadillac CTS that is believed to have hit Poklemba. That vehicle has been towed from Gonzalez’ address and taken for forensic analysis. Gonzalez is believed to have fled the area.

Once upon a time, Melinda Denise Hinson lived in Henderson, Kentucky, where she attended North Middle School. But about six months ago, Melinda moved with her mother Rhonda McNallin and older brother Cody to Panama City, Florida, to be with Rhonda’s boyfriend. I imagine moving from Henderson (which doesn’t exactly come across as cosmopolitan and trendy, no offense meant, Hendersonites) to Panama City would seem awesome to a 13-year-old girl. Sun and beaches and spring break, oh my. And from what we know, Melinda was in many ways an ordinary 13-year-old. According to her mother, Melinda had a broken cell phone on which she pretended to have conversations, which is exactly the kind of sweet naiveté you’d expect from a girl her age. Brother Cody (age 15) reported that “She liked to primp a lot” and when talking with people would often look past them to check out her reflection in a window. Livingston Parish, LA – On the surface, Couty Lamar Alexander looked like such a nice young man. Definitely a church-going young man. Back in 2004, he was part of team of youngsters who traveled to Jamaica to conduct Vacation Bible Schools. Afterward, he said, “It was a wonderful mission field experience. The kids we worked with were great. I can’t wait to go back and see the kids again.†Don’t know if he got to return to Jamaica to see the kids again, but as of last week, he had a special child to think about—his own. Married at the beginning of March, he and Christa Ann (nee Baker) were expecting a baby in December. Looking at the pictures of Christa on Couty’s MySpace, it’s easy to imagine a dark-haired, fair-skinned baby with her mother’s sweet face and smile. It’s also easy to imagine that baby growing up to conduct Vacation Bible Schools in another country just like Daddy did, since both Christa and Couty grew up in God-fearing homes and were active in their Missionary Baptist church.…
