Sarasota County, FL - Shannon Calvin Pike, 20, fractured a 3-year-old girl’s skull while she was in his care last last month. The toddler had two skull fractures and bleeding in her skull. Pike told police that the girl fell and hit a dresser while jumping on the bed, and that she “also slipped in the tub”. The medical report said that the child’s injuries were inconsistent with Pike’s story. One skull fracture was on the side of the girl’s head behind her ear, which didn’t jive with his statement of how the girl fell. The child also began vomiting prior to her bath, a clear sign that she had already sustained head trauma before getting into the tub. The toddler told investigators that Pike beat her because she had wet the bed, and that he later hit her in the head again.…

UPDATE 10/08/08 - Sharon Twocrows and Chasity Kubie were each sentenced to seven years in prison for their roles in the abuse of Twocrows’ four-year-old grandson. The seven-year sentences were the maximum allowed under Missouri law for a single count of felony child abuse. Twocrows and Kubie pled guilty in June. Paul Kubie will face a jury trial on December 18. He is being tried on four charges of endangering the welfare of a child and one count of child abuse, all Class C felony charges punishable by up to seven years in prison per count.
It’s not justice, but it’s something.
Joplin, MO - Sharon Twocrows, 50, is a nurse and a grandmother. Her son Paul Kubie, 27, is a Navy recruiter. Paul’s wife Chasity Kubie, 26, is a stay-at-home mother and aunt. Belanger, 18, had stabbed his psychotherapist in the torso and then attempted to slit his own throat. Mattian, 53, was pronounced dead a short time later. Huntington, West Virginia - Teresa Lynn Baker, 51, called 911 at 7:57 p.m. on Monday night. Baker’s daughter, who lived next door, was in the midst of a loud fight with her boyfriend Jeffrey Sadler, 29. An hour later, police had yet to respond and the disturbance was still going on. Tampa, FL - The spokesman for Florida’s Department of Children and Families was charged Friday with eight counts of using a child in a sexual performance. Al Zimmerman, 40, is accused of abusing two teenage boys, ages 16 and 17, and authorities believe there may be more teenaged victims. One victim met Zimmerman through the DCF, and the agency admits that the boy was in foster care under their supervision at the time of the abuse.
