Who Murdered Sierra Newbold?

West Jordan, UT – Early Tuesday morning, Kathy and Brad Newbold awoke to find that their six-year-old daughter, Sierra, was missing. She wasn’t in her bed at the family’s suburban Salt Lake City home. She wasn’t anywhere.  Kathy Newbold called police to report her daughter missing, and within a half hour, Sierra’s body was located in a canal a block from her house. Yesterday, an autopsy found that Sierra was sexually assaulted and murdered while her parents slept.

That’s the story, so far. Cute little girl allegedly abducted from her bed, apparently murdered, dumped in a canal. It’s already national news. The parents are not, at this time, considered suspects. West Jordan is on high predator alert. It’s a tragedy. So far, it appears to be that rarest of crimes – a stranger abduction.  Not unheard of in Utah (see Elizabeth Smart), but uncommon anywhere.

I dunno, though. Maybe I’m cynical, jaded by years of stories that start out this way and end with a parent or weird relative or family friend on trial.…

Jose Baez Thinks Casey Anthony Is A Wackjob, Nobody Is Shocked

Orlando, FL -   Yeah, we knew that was coming.  Defense attorney Jose Baez has written a new book, Presumed Guilty: Casey Anthony: The Inside Story, in which he posits that (surprise!) Casey Anthony is a nutjob. Can I get a “well, DUH,” up in here?

In case you’ve been living in an Amish family (or a cave), Casey Anthony is the mother of Caylee Marie Anthony, the adorable toddler who was reported missing on July 15, 2008. Caylee had actually been missing since June 9 of the same year, and was found dead several months later, duct tape wrapped around her skull, a creepy heart sticker over what remained of her mouth.

Casey was charged and acquitted of first-degree murder in one of the great travesties and tragedies of the Florida judicial system last year. The case broke our servers and doubled our membership, and there may have been a pizza incident that landed us on Fox News, so, y’know, it’s close to my heart.

Now, Casey’s defense attorney is just gonna keep on defending his client, yammering on about how no sane person does the things that Casey did.…

Jury Recommends Death Penalty For Collings In Rowan Ford Case

Rolla, MO -   Well, praise the Lord and pass the ammunition. A Phelps County jury has recommended the death penalty for Christopher Collings, who killed nine-year-old Rowan Ford in 2007.  Yesterday at 6:17 p.m., the jury returned the verdict after forty-eight minutes of deliberation.  Can I get an amen up in here?

Rowan Damia Ford was a sweet nine-year-old who made As and Bs in school even though sometimes her teachers had to make sure she ate. She helped with the Angel Food ministry at her church, and often arrived there hours early on Sunday, even though nobody else in her house went.  She was happy on her bike, riding around town. She liked Disney princesses, spaghetti and the color purple. Rowan was 3’11″ tall and weighed 62 pounds, with long, wavy brown hair, big brown eyes, and freckles across her nose. Rowan did not need to die.

It won’t help us to go over the details of the brutal rape and the strangulation that ended Rowan’s life.  It’s enough to know that she would likely have bled to death, but instead she got a cord around her neck and a horrific end in a dirty trailer.  Rowan was found dumped into a hole that led to a cave, half naked, because Collings and Rowan’s own stepfather, David Spears, are the worst kind of pedophile baby-killers imaginable.…

Has Hailey Dunn Been Found?

Big Spring, TX - Hailey Dunn, the missing thirteen-year-old from Colorado City, Texas, may have been found.  Fifteen months after her December 2010 disappearance, a body was located on Tuesday afternoon near an air park in Big Spring. UPDATE 12:07 PM 3/23/12 – Apparently not. The body, on autopsy, appears male and is not Hailey Dunn.  So that’s that – and Hailey is still missing. (imp)

Hailey’s case captured the nation’s attention at the time of her disappearance because Nancy Freakin’ Grace put up Hailey’s eighth grade cheerleader picture and called her “Missing Texas Cheerleader” in one of the more egregious cases of Missing White Girl Syndrome we’ve ever seen.

Within weeks, though, even the ol’ NG was off the case when it became clear that Hailey’s family life was more jacked up than a vintage Chevy in a redneck’s front yard.

From early on, it was clear to many of Hailey’s supporters that the bright, funny teenager was probably dead. Both her mother, Billie Dunn, and her mother’s boyfriend, Shawn Adkins, reportedly failed polygraphs regarding the circumstances of Hailey’s disappearance.…

Christopher Collings Convicted of First-Degree Murder of Rowan Ford

Rolla, MO – Remember Rowan Ford? If you don’t, maybe you haven’t been here in awhile. Or maybe it’s been so long since the nine-year-old’s murder in 2007 that you forgot. I’d forgive you if you blocked it out from trauma – Rowan’s murder was heinous.

Long story short, Chris Collings (who is 6’6″) and Rowan’s stepdad David Spears (who’s six feet wide, give or take) thought it would be really fun to pull a train on a nine year old girl. Then one or both of the men garroted Rowan with a cord and dumped her body down a cave entrance, where she laid half-clothed and decomposing for nearly a week. Nice, huh? NO.

Collings has admitted to abducting Rowan from her bed and taking her to a trailer, where he raped and killed the child. Spears has also admitted to raping and killing Rowan, which is a slick strategy if you like defense maneuvers for later appeals.

This week, a Phelps County jury finally convicted Christopher Collings of first-degree murder for killing Rowan during the commission of statutory rape.…

Father, Stepmother Charged With Murdering Boy Forced To Live In Dog Cage

Gary, Indiana – Thirteen-year-old Christian Choate was murdered in April of 2009, but it wasn’t until this week that anyone outside his immediate family knew about it.  Now, Christian’s body has been discovered, and his father and stepmother have been charged with murder in connection with his death.

In 2005, Riley Choate got custody of his kids. I don’t know how or why, but apparently he stopped allowing visits with the childrens’ mother, Aimee Estrada.  He then moved in with Kimberly Kubina.  Almost immediately, Christian was accused of molesting a male relative – probably because Kubina and Choate are liars as well as sadists.  Christian was tied to a bed and slapped, and soon became the targeted child, the “bad kid” who was abused while the other children were treated fairly well.  I mean, if treating the other kids well means making them beat their brother and record it on video.

Over the next several years, Christian was bound to a bed frame, gagged, starved, locked in a dog cage, beaten with metal pipes, and who knows what else.  Eventually the abuse escalated until Christian was called “the dog” and left in a dog crate full time.  The crate was kept in the front bedroom of the family trailer – they’d just gag the kid with a sock and some duct tape and throw a blanket over it if Grandma came over.   Christian’s older sister Christina, now 17, was put in charge of Christian’s “care” and taught to beat him if he disobeyed.  By 2009, Christian’s wardrobe was a diaper and a gag and he could barely stand.…

Chris Collings Gets Mistrial in Rowan Ford Rape and Murder Case. WTF.

Phelps County, Missouri - The rape and murder trial of Chris Collings, 35, was set to start on Monday. Instead, Phelps County Judge Mary Sheffield declared a mistrial this morning because Collings’ prosecution and defense were unable to come up with a jury, even on a change of venue from Barry County and a two-year delay.  Join me in a chorus of ” THIS FRIGGING SUCKS” by Imp and the Dammit Dammits, won’t you?

We first reported on Rowan Ford over three years ago. Rowan Ford was nine years old in November 2007.  She was an elfin little girl, sweet-natured despite her repeated bouts of head lice and general air of neglect.  Rowan often slept in the back of her mother’s car while Colleen Spears worked the overnight shift at Wal-Mart.  Rowan slept there when the weather was good because  she was afraid of her stepfather, David Spears.  The extent of Rowan’s fear was sadly proven correct when her battered, raped body was found  bloody and strangled in a small cave a week after her disappearance.…

Sex Offender Lonnie Johnson Gets Out Of Jail Free

Provo, UT – Leave it to the state who came up with Warren Jeffs to pull this one.  Lonnie Hyrum Johnson, a 38-year-old convicted child rapist, is walking around free after only a year and a half in the Utah State Hospital.  To make things even more fun, Johnson is currently facing 21 more counts of rape, sodomy and aggravated sexual abuse of a child for being a nasty pedo perv with his step-daughter and her cousin.   Nice goin’, Judge James Taylor.

What happened is that Johnson was convicted of the third-degree rape of a teenage girl in Washington state in 2006. He served less than a year. He then got out, started raping on his stepdaughter and her cousin in Utah, and got caught again. This time, his defense said he was too stupid to assist in his own defense – and Judge Taylor bought it.

Taylor found that Johnson had a cognitive disorder and was incompetent to stand trial, so off to the state hospital Johnson went, grinning all the way.  Now, doctors say that Johnson is still unable to assist in his defense, but no longer qualifies for involuntary commitment because – get this – he’s not dangerous.…

Troy Colt Griffin Lost His Cell Phone, Gained Child Sexual Assault Charge

Alvarado, TX - On Tuesday, Troy “Colt” Griffin, 27, was probably wondering where he’d left his cell phone.  Fortunately, a helpful citizen found the lost phone – and the pictures of Griffin having sex with a seven-year-old.  The grossed-out phone-finder took the phone to the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office, where deputies marveled at Griffin’s idiocy and pervitude on their way to get arrest and search warrants.

Griffin and his girlfriend, Elizabeth Hambrecht, 28, did not take kindly to warrants being served. Hambrecht apparently had a bit of a freak-out when law enforcement started going through stuff and telling her how her man is a pedophile child molester.  I’m not sure what Hambrecht did, but she is now facing a charge of interfering with public duties. Which I guess means temper fit or protect-the-penis behavior.  Too bad, really, because she is clearly way too hot for Colt Griffin if you feel like searching for her on Facebook.

Griffin, who says he’s a father of four on Facebook, was arrested and charged with aggravated sexual assault on a child.  Several pieces of digital media were seized during the search of Griffin’s residence, so further charges are likely forthcoming.  Which is what happens when you rape a kid and record it for posterity.  He’s being held in the Johnson County Jail on $250,000 bond.…

Reverend Eddie Prince Charged With Downloading Child Porn At Public Library

Colorado Cop Busted For Nude Pics Of Runaway Teen

Aurora, CO  - Aurora Police Officer Michael Mangino has a lot of explaining to do.  The resource officer for several Aurora schools gets to tell a judge why he took butt shots of a girl in his elementary school DARE class, why he had videos of himself doing the nasty in his patrol car, and why he made underage girls he arrested take naughty pictures of themselves with his cell phone.

Officer Mangino, 50, was busted this week after a fifteen-year-old runaway from California filed a complaint alleging “inappropriate conduct”.   Mangino apparently arrested the girl, and then coerced her into sending him naked pictures of herself – some of which he apparently stored on his cell phone.  Um, really, Officer Mangino?   You make girls put underage porn on your cell phone?  That’s just… not intelligent.

Mangino allegedly told the runaway teen that he “has all the girls he arrests take photos for him”, according to police affidavit reports.  Probably also not the brightest move in the world.  But since Mangino is the second Aurora school resource officer to be arrested since December, I’m guessing they’re scraping the bottom of the barrel for cops already.…

Daytona Beach Shores, FL - Deeanna M. Murray, 24, is an idiot.  She’s an idiot for a number of reasons.  Let me count the ways, denizens:

Reason One: Murray, who is not unattractive, chose a  registered sex offender who was convicted of lewd and lascivious behavior with a child as the man of her dreams.  Meet Phillip Perry Heidt.

(Is it me, or is 20-year-old Heidt an early starter at the pedo game? His conviction is dated 2008, but the arrest is dated 2006. Last I looked, 20 – 5 = 15. So I do wanna know what Phillip Heidt did that got him charged as an adult and a ticket to Registrationville, just in case of extenuating circumstances.  Anyway…)

Reason Two: Murray has two toddlers, ages 3 and 2. She has been living in apartment with the kids and Heidt, who was  just arrested in January for being around children, so hello probation violation.

Man Accidentally Shoots, Kills Himself During Gun Training Class

Mountain Grove, Missouri  – The 911 call came in on Saturday afternoon, March 6.  The Shootin’ Iron gun facility stated that a man had dropped his weapon during a concealed-carry class. The gun had accidentally discharged, hitting the man in the chest.  Which sounded okay, until someone did geometry and realized that a gun on the floor isn’t gonna hit the chest of a guy who’s standing.   Somewhere in Missouri, somebody done screwed up.

Glenn Seymour, 63, was a part-time emergency dispatcher who was familiar with revolvers but had recently switched to a Browning 9 mm semiautomatic. He was taking his concealed-carry class to help him get familiar with the new gun.

During the class, instructor Paul Richard Williams gave students an exercise:  using their non-dominant hand, students were to unholster their weapons, take the safety off, aim, and shoot the pretend threat in front of them.  Apparently this exercise was in case someone got shot in the shootin’ arm.  Also apparently, this exercise was being done with loaded weapons.  Which was kind of the problem, when you consider that flipping a safety with the wrong hand usually requires practice.…

Clayton and Elizabeth Cherry Like Kids, So Does Their Nanny

Cochise County, AZ - I don’t know how you screen nannies in your house, but one would think a nanny who loves children would be an asset, right?  That’s what Clayton and Elizabeth Cherry thought.  After all, they love children too.  They love kids so much police allege they just wanna snuggle right up, take off their clothes, show ‘em some porn and get busy.  And who better to help with that enterprise than a nanny who’s already got one kid in CPS custody?

Mr. and Mrs. Cherry, both age 28 and victims of the ugly stick, hired Rachel Danea Robison, 26, to come on in and help out with their own kids.  Which, since she clearly already had parenting issues with one child, seemed like a great idea. Travis Mullis Totally Got The Death Penalty

Galveston, Texas - I told you this would happen.  There, I’ve said it, we can move on.  Travis James “TJ” Mullis, 24, was sentenced to death today for the murder of his three-month-old son, Alijah James Mullis.

On January 29, 2008, Alijah’s tiny body was found lying face up on a berm just above Galveston Beach. His head had been stomped, his skull crushed.  Alijah’s body was found by a man who was birdwatching in the area. He thought he saw a doll, and moved in to see Alijah, dead, eyes open, wearing one sock.  Although Alijah had been dead only a few hours, ants were already crawling on his skin.  The man was ill, police were called, and within a few hours a call came in from a hospital – police needed to call Caren Kohberger.  Her boyfriend had left with their baby, and hadn’t come back.  Alijah was never coming back.

Caren and Travis lived in a trailer with another couple and their children – one of whom, an eight-year-old girl, had been the recipient of Travis’s desire to play with children – not in a nice way.  As it turns out, so had her brothers – Mullis had attempted to get all of the kids to take off their clothes in the days and weeks leading up to Alijah’s death.…

Shawn Adkins and Billie Dunn Lose the Child, Keep the Child Porn

Colorado City, TX  – It’s about to get real in CCity, denizens.  Hailey Dunn, 13, has been missing for two months – and now child porn has been found in Billie Dunn’s dresser drawer.  According to Mitchell County Sheriff Patrick Toombs, child porn, bestiality, and “deviant pornographic images and videos” were found on a memory stick in the master bedroom of Billie Dunn’s home early in January.  Another 108,498 files were found on the computer Shawn Adkins used at his mother’s home in Big Spring.  That’s almost ONE HUNDRED NINE THOOOUUUUSAND files.  Which is, like, a metric shit ton of porn, no matter what kind it is.

According to the affidavit for search of digital media, the memory stick in Billie Jean Dunn’s dresser (bottom right drawer, if you care) was taken on or about January 5 – a week after Hailey was reported missing.  The computer was taken from Big Spring on December 30 and entered into evidence around January 5 – about five minutes after Shawn’s mom called the cops and told them she was coming to get her computer.…

Colorado City, Texas - Hailey Dunn, 13, has been missing since December 27. We’ve covered the case here and in our forums, with the usual “oh, Mom’s boyfriend” response. I mean, really. You see a few hundred of these and it plays out like variations on a damned theme every time, right? Mom was high, Dad was also kinda high, mom Billie Dunn met 25-year-old Shawn Adkins online, moved him in, Hailey went missing, and now everyone’s all shocked like this shit never happens and Nancy Grace acts like she’s won the lottery. Again.  But now we have affidavits and search warrants and new case data, and the case appears to be breaking.  Hailey, at this writing, remains missing, and no one has been arrested or charged in her disappearance. Shawn Adkins is a person of interest.

Now, some Myspace pics have come up that show Shawn Adkins flashing the Evil Devil Sign, and one affidavit lists multiple true crime documents printed by Billie Dunn involving serial killers.…

Brooke Watts Is An Unholy Mess

St. Bernard, Ohio – Brooke Watts has been in a hell of a mess.   Unfortunately, Brooke’s kids were living in it with her.   Watts, 27, was arrested on Tuesday night after police officers found her and her three children, ages1, 4, and 7, living in filth.  Bonus, there were meth ingredients lying around.  Double plus bonus, the kids all had head lice and bugs were everywhere – even in the food in the refrigerator.  Well, that’ll put me right back on my diet.    Fortunately for the kids, a social worker did her job and alerted the cops after she showed up to visit the family and found that despite repeated warnings, the place was an unlivable nightmare of ewww.   I know, right?  A repeat visit, and the place still had masses of messes all up in it?  But of course, my darling denizens.  Because cleaning the house before Child Protective Services drops by just feels wrong, somehow, y’know? …

Everett Abney Coaches Kids

Edison, New Jersey – Everett Abney has been out of work for awhile, but he’s been keeping busy nonetheless.  Abney, 41, has apparently spent his extra time downloading thousands of images of child pornography.  Which would make him your basic garden-variety kiddie perv, except that he’s also been coaching at Edison’s Midtown National Little League for at least three years.  Batter up, indeed.  Now that Abney’s been arrested by federal agents, the league is having an emergency board meeting*  next Tuesday, probably to discuss why the board let a guy who’s been under federal investigation since February coach their kids.…
