NEW YORK, NY – A woman was arrested after she allegedly dumped a container of popcorn on a 2-year-old in a movie theater then hitting the toddler in the head with the container

According to police,  25-year-old Keri Karman was with her father watching a showing of “Star Wars: The Last Jedi.” Sitting beside her was Celia Riggs, who was watching the movie with her husband and three children.

There haven’t been any reports on what may have happened before Karman snapped, but according to Riggs, her 2-year-old daughter had simply asked for some popcorn when Karman told the girl to shut up.

When Riggs told Karman not to talk to her daughter, she says Karman responded by screaming and cursing at her before covering the 2-year-old girl’s mouth with her hand. She then dumped popcorn over the little girl’s head before hitting her in the head with the empty container.

Karman left the theater with her father left the theater as the girl started crying. It took police two months, but they finally identified Karman and arrested her and her father. They have both been charged with endangering the welfare of a child.

According to someone who knows Karman, the events being reported are not detailing the other side of the story.

“Too bad you didn’t hear the real story!! When asked to quiet the kid, the mother pushed Keri and the popcorn went flying,” Karman’s friend wrote on Facebook. “Keri never raised a hand in any way .?.?. there is not an aggressive bone in Keri’s body.”

Riggs responded to this post by stating she never laid a hand on Karman and that her kid was not misbehaving in the theater.

“No one else complained about her. If she was this screaming monster child, someone else might have said something, and between the adults she was with, someone would have taken her out,” she said.

Of course, I have no idea what happened as I wasn’t there. But Lord knows I have wanted to do something similar while watching a movie. Not that I wanted to dump popcorn on a talking child’s head, but I definitely wanted to punch out their parent who wasn’t stopping it.

As a parent myself, I am absolutely amazed and the absolute lack of consideration some parents have when it comes to these types of situations. It’s why I have no issue whatsoever with establishments choosing not to allow kids.
