FAIRFAX, VA – A 22-year-old woman was killed after a 12-year-old boy jumped from an interstate overpass in a suicide attempt.

According to reports, Marisa Harris was traveling east on I-66 in her 2005 Ford Escape when the boy jumped from an overpass and, I assume, hit her windshield.

Harris was immediately incapacitated and her boyfriend, who was a passenger in the vehicle, took control of the car and steered it off of the interstate.

Harris was pronounced dead at the scene while the boy was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

To make the story even worse, Harris was studying mental health counseling at Marymount University to eventually help children just like the one who killed her.

Her family said Harris had a passion for working with children with severe behavioral problems.

“That’s the irony that we’re … looking at right now,” said her father.

Towson University, where Harris graduated, released a statement that described Harris as “a caring, giving person who intended to devote her life to helping children in crisis.”

Fairfax County Public Schools sent parents an email on Monday advising them to be aware of signs of mental illness in their children. Anyone having a crisis can call 911 or text NEEDHELP to 85511.

I was always little paranoid driving under overpasses… but after writing up a couple stories involving rocks being thrown from overpasses, I always look up as I’m driving underneath them.
