WYOMING, MI – Police have arrested a woman after they say she starved her infant to death as he sat strapped in a car seat inside her apartment.

On July 19, 22-year-old Lovily Johnson showed up at Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital with the corpse of her six-month-old son, Noah Johnson.

“Upon arrival, Noah was clearly deceased and had been for some time,” Wyoming Detective Robert Meredith wrote in a probable cause affidavit.

Meredith also wrote that Johnson admitted to intentionally depriving Noah of food and left him strapped in a car seat for several days on the upper floor of her apartment with no air conditioning.

Johnson was arrested several hours later and charged with felony murder and first-degree child abuse. Both charges carry a maximum sentence of life in prison. She is being held without bond until her probable cause hearing on Aug. 2.

Johnson also as a 2-year-old daughter who has been placed under the supervision of the state.

If an infant starving to death while strapped in a car seat sounds familiar, you may be thinking of a similar case we reported on back in 2008. In that incident, a couple killed their infant by leaving him unattended in a car seat for eight days.

Authorities would find five-month-old Benjamin dead in his car seat with his eyes open, fists clenched and dried bubbly foam caked onto his mouth. It would later be revealed in court that the infant’s diaper wasn’t changed for at least five days, he wasn’t bathed for nine days and he hadn’t eaten in three to four days.

The boy’s father, James Sargent, would eventually be found guilty of murder after a weeklong bench trial and sentenced to 100 years in prison. The boy’s mother, Tracy Hermann, played it a bit smarter and pleaded guilty to first-degree murder. She was sentenced to 50 years in prison.
