CHICAGO, IL – A woman has been charged with murder after she allegedly used her SUV to repeatedly ram another woman into a tree before running over her multiple times.

Chynna Stapleton, 24, was charged with first-degree murder following the death of 18-year-old Tatyanna Lewis on Friday night. The two women knew each other and had apparently been having a Facebook argument over a man.

“The victim and her boyfriend was visiting and I guess the other girl, out of jealousy and envy, followed them over here and it escalated over Facebook from my understanding,” said a friend of the victim.

According to witnesses, Stapleton drove her SUV onto the sidewalk and rammed Lewis, who was on foot, into a tree. She then rammed her into the tree a couple more times before running over her body.

“She backed up and hit her again, and then she did it again, and then she just took off, she drove off,” said a witness. “It was very heartbreaking to see that, and then just to see her laying on the ground helpless.”

After hitting Lewis, Stapleton struck several vehicles as she drove away while a young child was in the backseat of her vehicle.

A friend of Lewis said he immediately ran to check her pulse, but she was unresponsive. Lewis, the daughter of a Chicago police officer, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Stapleton’s vehicle was found her SUV one and a half miles away from where Lewis was hit, and she was taken into custody. Police are asking anyone who witnessed the attack, or who took video of the incident, to contact authorities.
