BANGKOK – A man hanged himself and his 11-month-old daughter live on Facebook after getting into a fight with his wife.

According to police, 20-year-old Wuttisan Wongtalay threatened to kill his wife after he accused her of cheating on him. Jiranuch Trirat said she was scared so she ran from the house, leaving him alone with their daughter, Natalie.

After she left, Wongtalay ended up leaving the house with Natalie and climbed to the top of an abandoned hotel where he started a Facebook livestream.

He then broadcast himself tying a rope to his daughter’s neck and lowers the girl, dressed in a bright pink dress, from the side of the building.

“You can hear the girl crying and finally the crying stops. Then he pulls her up onto the roof top and unties the rope from her neck,” said Lt Col Sanit Nookhong.

Wongtalay does not livestream his own death, but when police arrived on the scene after getting phone calls about the video, they found both Wongtalay and Natalie hanged from the side of the building.

The video reportedly remained on Facebook for nearly 24 hours before it was removed.

“This is an appalling incident and our hearts go out to the family of the victim,” said a Singapore-based Facebook spokesman. “There is absolutely no place for content of this kind on Facebook and it has now been removed.”

Facebook already suffered some backlash after the livestream of an elderly man’s murder remained on the site for a couple of hours, prompting Overlord Zuckerberg to publicly address the issue and promise to do better about monitoring violent footage and other objectionable material on his platform.
