Merrimack, NH — Jodi Ecklund is facing a heap of charges after barricading herself in her apartment last Saturday, holding police at bay for several hours with threats of violence and death.

All this, police say, because of her boyfriend’s lackluster comment about the spaghetti dinner she dished up for him.

Jason Martin told police Ecklund made him a spaghetti dinner, asking him afterward what he thought about it. “It was OK,” he replied. It was then, he said, she went all kinds of bipolar on him.

Martin claims Ecklund punched him in the face and arm and scratched his hand. After he left the apartment, he said, Ecklund locked the door.

When police arrived on scene, they were informed by Martin that there were guns in the home — a Glock 9mm and a M4 rifle.

Police could hear Ecklund yelling inside of the apartment, screaming at them to “get the (bleep) out of there!” She threatened to kill the officers if they entered, and/or harm herself.

When police attempted to gain entrance, Ecklund told them to go right ahead…. she had the safety off.

Ecklund then started destroying the boyfriend’s shit and throwing it out the window. A speaker that went flying apparently hit another residence, damaging a window.

Ecklund was eventually taken into custody. She’s now facing two counts of criminal mischief, two counts of criminal threatening and two counts of reckless conduct… all felonies. She’s also been charged with three misdemeanor counts of domestic violence.

She was placed on $25,000 cash bail, which could be converted to personal recognizance if accepted into the Hampstead Hospital for inpatient mental health and substance abuse treatment, or a similar program that consists of a minimum of 28-days. The bail would revert back to cash once she was discharged or completed the program.

  • Lots of food related crimes. First the cold taco and now so so spaghetti. People are coo coo.

  • I kinda get this lol. I wouldn’t do it but I get the sentiment. U do something nice for someone and they’re not really appreciative … add being hangry into the mix… could be bad lol

I’m going to go out on a limb here, and diagnose this girl over the internet. Gluten intolerance…. Her face and shoulders alone, show hallmarks of the puffy/fat that comes with inflammation (water weight), created by the body’s attempt at fighting off the invader (gluten). I’ve spent a couple of years on a gluten free diet, after being diagnosed with a gluten (and dairy) intolerance, that left me looking much like this girl does, and with the bipolar rage + mood swings to boot. I’d always thought my wild mood swings were due to my Italian heritage (my father is also a major rage-y hothead) .. but I swear to God, after a couple of weeks of no gluten and no dairy .. my rage-y up and down mood swings miraculously disappeared, along with my fibromyalgia (all over arthritis and stiffness, caused by inflammation), that I suffered with for years… Gone. I woke up one morning, absolutely pain free, and could not believe it As long I don’t relapse on the gluten .. it does not come back. It’s been miraculous to have been able to heal myself by cutting specific foods out of my diet. This girl needs to get tested for food intolerances, I’ll bet she comes back with a gluten positive.

  • Amy Conti why everyone “LOVES” my spaghetti lol

  • Edward Hopkins, you might want to think twice before saying “ok” when I ask you how dinner is from now on. 😛

  • DreaminMan5

Ah, just one more reason why I prefer being single.

  • Robyn

you know she just boiled some pasta and then opened a jar of sauce, not that there is anything wrong with that, but she didnt have to take it so personal, lol…she didnt “cook” anything really

I’m going to guess, I know how dare I, but I think there’s more to this than spaghetti. Maybe he turned down “dessert?”

  • I laughed way too hard at this before I’ve had coffee ????

this is what happens when you give kids a trophy for everything. They turn into adults that expect lavish praise for everything they do. If they don’t get it out comes the tantrums

  • jansav

Or…maybe she is just a needy self absorbed cow.

You might be onto something…I was going to go with bipolar and/or borderline personality disorder. My mother-in-law has both and this sounds like something she’d do. When my husband was a kid, it was normal for her to chase his dad around the house with various weapons. She’d get furiously enraged at the tiniest little things. For instance, she’d want to go clubbing and my father-in-law would say no, because they had three kids, no sitter to watch them, he’d worked all day and needed to sleep and, oh yeah, they needed to use what little money they had to pay rent. She’d go ballistic, screaming, throwing things at him, threatening to kill herself while holding a knife to her throat, threatening to burn the house down with the kids inside….really crazy shit.

Anyway, whatever makes this chick behave this unhinged, I hope it gets identified and treated for her sake and the sake of those around her. That likely won’t happen, but the sentiment is there all the same.

  • WTFOMGLOL

that could be too. I’m just throwing the gluten thing out there.

  • Antonio Valor

No. see I’m going the other direction. She saw some bs recipe online or in a magazine or whateverthefuck or got motivated by some daytime tv segment.
Anyway, she’s rarin’ to make this awesome dinner – only, she’s incompetent at cooking and it’s an ordeal and she’s forgetting steps but she somehow pulls together a “from scratch” sauce (prolly using a bottle sauce as “base” lol). Boom, she just knows her man is going to take one taste and fall down oto a knee, rip out his prince albert and propose.

But er, she added too much oregano, and not enough garlic, and maybe she let the sauce scorch. And the shit is basic af son. Like, boyardee would legit kick her ass. But dude knows she’s loons, so he tries to get away with the “ok” dodge rather than be real and say “nice try but that’s a fail.”

    That’s when the fight started.

  • WTFOMGLOL

    NH “It’s OK”

  • So true Robin Doyle. 100% truth!!

  • lighten up dude

  • Josh

If this guy is smart, he will dump her and find a new crazy bitch with a new set of problems to deal with.

  • Josh

That’s like telling Jaded bacon is just ok.

  • Elizabeth McCarthy

I can relate. I’ve worked on my sauce for years to get it right. Many years ago, I get a new husband. I make-a the spaghetti, dish it up even. He doesn’t even take a bite, not one damn bite, before he’s dumping SALSA all over it. WTF? How DARE he?? My plate went into the sink and all over the wall. I stormed out and he sat there with his mouth open. My sister was at the table eating like nothing happened. Between bites she said, “Shouldn’t have put the salsa on the sauce, man.” It’s been decades and he asks me now if he can use salsa. SMH.

But that gluten thing could absolutely be what this is about. I may have to try this. This sounds like me, and I have the fibro, too. Thanks, WTFOMGLOL.

OMG, what is she…12? Suck it up, buttercup.

  • She should try boiling the spaghetti next time. It says so on the package.

Oh gawd!! We have the same husband!!

  • melb1970

My hubby and I cook together alot because ..he is a meat and carbs guy.
I’m a bit on the creative side.. fresh veggies and herbs…blah blah blah ya know pinterest crap. that can on occasion make ya look brilliant.
He also fixes meals like we have ten kids to feed. There is just us and two dogs. In his defense, he was raised in home that took in foster children his whole life. He eats last, always and his dishes tend to be a little bland because there were so many palates to please in his youth.
He doesn’t know seasonings exist outside salt, pepper and hot sauce. Which wouldn’t be a bad thing if he wasn’t so chintzy with any of the above. I won’t complain he tries…and that is sweet but when he even says.. Do ya think the dogs will like it?
I’ll say something sweet like.. “want to freeze the leftovers?”.. translation the dogs will get it eventually.
This boy needs to learn code..and quick if he keeps this psycho.
And she needs to learn how to cook .. or get used to freezing leftovers and receiving false praise.

Gluten has been unnaturally introduced into the human diet since man started planting wheat. We didn’t want or need it before that. Throw in industrial processing and you have the current state of the human body with all its suffering from modern problems.

Stick to just fruit and vegetables in the morning. The fruit will clean toxins as well as the bread “paste” from your system (gut in particular), and you’d be amazed at the increase in energy from getting the vitamins provided direct from the source. I’m going through the process myself at the moment and the difference in energy level is stunning.

  • Sejanus

This reminded me of how the GOP is repealing Obama’s restriction of firearm sales to mental cases.
    Aaaahhhh good times ahead!

In fairness though no one in NH can make decent pasta.
It is all store bought dried crud.

  • Buffettgirl

Ah, you know I luvs you Sejanus, but your first statement is factually inaccurate… According to the Washington Post this is what is really happening, despite the medias’ hysteria and made up facts:

“Under the rule, which the Obama administration made permanent on its way out the door, Social Security beneficiaries with psychiatric disabilities who are assigned a money manager for their disability benefits would be reported to the FBI’s background check database as people ineligible to purchase firearms. House Republicans voted last week to eliminate the rule, and their counterparts in the Senate are expected to follow suit.

The gun restriction rule is a well-meaning policy that gets some things right, notably its support of federal efforts to improve detection of risky people who should not have legal access to guns. But despite its good intentions, what the policy actually does is take away the gun rights of a large category of individuals without any evidence that they pose a risk of harm to self or others, and without legal due process protections commensurate with abridging a constitutional right.”

The rule unfairly targets people that might not be able to do the math regarding their finances anymore, like Veterans on SSD/SSI, but are perfectly capable of shooting a pistol or rifle with accuracy and while being aware of the rights and wrongs of gun-ownership. A former soldier dealing with TBI shouldn’t automatically be penalized just because he can no longer manage his money. The provision was too restrictive in it’s nature.

OK – I’m done now. It’s an issue close to my heart as I have a brother that is Paranoid Schizophrenic and my ex is a Vet on SSD/SSI. <3 <3 <3

Can we not say she “went all bipolar”? I know lots of bipolar people who would never do anything like that, especially not over spaghetti. Say she “went ballistic” and leave it at that; the bipolar people have a hard enough time without this.
