ASHLAND, OR – Police in Ashland say a 12-year-old boy stabbed his mother to death and seriously injured his older sister.

On Tuesday morning, police responded to a home after family members inside called 911 to report an assault.

When police arrived they found 52-year-old Pamela Wolosz dead inside the home, and her 16-year-old daughter seriously injured.

Police say the 12-year-old son and brother of the victims had stabbed them both multiple times with a chef’s knife that he had taken from the kitchen.

Ashland police Chief Tighe O’Meara said the 12-year-old cooperated with police and that the situation was “contained immediately and there was no threat as soon as officers got on scene.”

The boy’s sister was rushed to the hospital and is expected to survive. The boy was arrested on allegations of homicide and assault and is currently being held at a juvenile detention facility in Medford.

Although a 12-year-old can be charged as an adult, an attorney with the Jackson County District Attorney’s Office said they haven’t decided what will happen in this case.

“Every homicide is tough, and to watch this unfold and see a 12-year-old taken into custody for murdering his mother, it’s been a rough day and it’s going to be a rough patch for the community to work through,” O’Meara said. “This is really especially tragic.”

As for a motive, there isn’t one at this time. O’Meara said the boy doesn’t have a criminal history and are still figuring out what prompted the attacks.

“It’s going to take a while,” O’Meara said. “I would imagine detectives would be working on this for several days to maybe a couple weeks.”

I find the facebook notification of tragedy rather eerie. He hadn’t even been home yet and his post seems so detached. Everyone mourns differently I guess.

I agree. I can’t really say how I would be in his shoes but I would think that I would be throwing up I a corner from grief….a total lunatic that would have to be tranquilized if something like this happened in my home. Facebook wouldn’t be on my radar and I have a huge Facebook addiction going on.

    He’s probably numb as hell.

  • jansav

the dads FB post creeped me out for some reason.

  • The dad her husband seems to calm, and he goes in to say she was a great mom blah blah blah and how good she was to the animals and kind of insinuates that she was better to the animals, I wonder if he put the little shit up to killing his mom … or at least planted the seed

sounds like he’s just a thoughtful writer. i see he’s in communications- that doesn’t come without skills. i thought it was sincere.

  • And I thought I had gotten pretty jaded reading DD, but you are clearly much further along than me. I didn’t get all that from his Facebook post.

  • Alan Gloss I think I watch too much investigation discovery ????

  • myself

Sad they don’t even have a pic of there kids on facebook

  • I thought the same thing. “No easy way to say but my wife is dead”. Umm….

  • I must be jaded too because I had the same thought process, minus the conspiracy part at the end. He does seem detached and empty to me. Maybe he wasn’t as close to his family, like estranged perhaps, and that’s the reason for his cold sounding words? I know I’d be a psychotic mess throwing up all over myself and 100% inconsolable if I were in his shoes, but who knows. Some people cope in weird ways. And this just happened, so maybe he’s in shock. Or maybe he just hated his wife.

  • Tonya Kiebler great minds think alike

  • Laura Bratwurst I know I would be a mess too , let’s just pray for that family to get threw this

I noticed that, too. Plenty of the cats on mom’s, none of the kids. Dad seems to be gone on business (?) most of the time.

I liked it the first time when it was called Halloween

  • Wow!

There are about 800 articles listing reasons one shouldn’t post their children’s pictures on social media (most of the reasons boil down to safety).
