Anitra BraxtonPHOENIX, AZ – Anitra Braxton is facing murder charges after admitting she killed a woman because she didn’t believe in God, then kept her body for three days as a shrine.

Police were called to Braxton’s apartment where they would find a dead woman on Braxton’s couch. The victim was covered with a towel and had been shot in the head.

Braxton, 39, told investigators that the she had shot the woman in the eye two or three days ago for not believing in God, and that she kept the body on the couch as a “shrine from God.”

While she was cooperative with investigators, Phoenix police spokesman Sgt. Trent Crump said some of her statements where “somewhat delusional.” He also said that Braxton will not tell them who the victim is.

“When we ask for the victim’s name, she gives her own name,” Crump said. “At this point, we’re not sure what her thought process is or what type of mental illness she may be suffering from.”

He described the victim as a heavyset black woman in her 30s or 40s who may have been pregnant.

Braxton was arrested and charged with first-degree murder. If the victim was pregnant, Trump said she will be facing a second charge of murder. She was booked into a Maricopa County jail in lieu of $750,000 bail.
