hammer windshieldMESA, AZ – Brett Benavides, 42, has been charged after a hammer flew from his hand while vandalizing his girlfriends car, and  fatally struck a man in the forehead.

Court documents say Benavides was losing his shit in an apartment complex parking lot, using a hammer to smash in the windshield of his girlfriend’s car.

At some point during Benavides’ dumbassery, he lost his grip on the hammer and it went flying through the air, hitting Steven Melcher in the forehead as he stood on his porch just feet away.

Melcher was taken to the hospital for his head injury, but developed a brain bleed and fell into a coma. He was taken off life support two days later.

“It just really hurts, I feel empty,” said Melcher’s wife of 25 years. “All I know is I want justice,” she said.

Dunno if she will get it, but police have arrested Benavides and have charged him with manslaughter.

One of the reasons why I posted this article, aside from the ridiculous way Mr. Melcher was killed, was to post the following news report on the incident. It includes a reporter demonstrating how someone can use a hammer to smash a car windshield.

It’s pretty ridiculous.
