Chrystal HassellOCALA, FL – Police say 37-year-old Chrystal Hassell went on a crack binge inside a Florida motel before giving birth in the bathtub and then cutting the umbilical cord with her teeth.

Hassell was approximately six to seven months pregnant went she got a room at Vacation Host Inn and went and went on a 24 hour cocaine bender. She gave birth to her baby in the bathtub and chewed through the umbilical cord. To her credit, she called 911 when the baby started turning blue.

The baby is in critical condition on a ventilator at UF Heatlh Shands Hospital while Hassel is on suicide watch at the Marion County Jail facing a charge of child neglect.

Unfortunately, crack cocaine does not cause ovaries to wither on the vine. This is Hassel’s third child. She has a 16-year-old daughter who was born addicted to crack, and an 11-month old boy who was taken by the Florida Department of Children and Families after this recent incident.

The father of the baby and 11-month-old, 43-year-old Vincent Terry, was also arrested on a warrant out of El Pasco County, Colo., for domestic violence, attempted murder and drug possession.

Terry said in an interview that despite their problems, he is looking forward to a life with Hassel and his children. “Of course we’re going to stay together. My kids are here. She’s not a bad person. She just got a problem and, together, we’ll fight it,” he said.

I can fix one of their problem pretty simply. I just need a can of Drano, a funnel, and five minutes alone with Hassel.

    Sickening.

If chewing through an umbilical cord of a blue baby isn’t rock bottom I don’t know what is.

  • Vincents_Sin

    “Rock” bottom? >_> <_<

  • http://www.dreamindemon.com Count Rackula

Literally all I can think of right now is the birth scene in “Freddy Got Fingered,” where Tom Green savagely gnaws through the umbilical cord with his teeth and starts swinging the baby around the room to “wake it up.”

I give no fucks about what anyone thinks about my undying love for Tom Green. None.

  • Sara

*sigh* At least she called 911 rather than let the little one die and then toss its body in a dumpster. Or hide it in the garage. From what I’ve read, she sounds like a real dumbass. She’s already seen the damage that can be done to the child of a drug addicted mom and she goes and does it again. Only this time, the poor baby nearly died.
I think I’m being a tad judgmental because my son was born 3 months early and I did everything right. But it still wasn’t enough. (He’s doing great now, by the way. He’s 5 1/2 and playing in the backyard as I type this.) Her baby would probably have been born healthy and on time, but she chose crack over him. It seems so perverse to me.

  • Lena60

Ick * gag* @chewing through the umbilical cord.Theses druggies make me sick, they always seem to end up with drug addicted or mentally challenged children.SO fucking sad for the kids.

  • ShelbySP

Hold up, isn’t this a luxury birthing procedure in Florida? Why is she in jail?

  • Guest

OK crack doesn’t make you sterile but shouldn’t it have killed her by now? If she was addicted 17 years ago, when her first child was born, how is she still breathing??

  • Lance Larkin

So can anyone here read this article and think of a good reason not to have a national eugenics program; besides the fact that the Nazis did?

  • Buffettgirl

Just an all around WTF? I mean really, I’m happy that the little mite is surviving so far, I promise, but damn, the rest of ALL of it leaves me shaking my head in disbelief that this shit goes on in the world. My logical brain knows it, my emotional one refuses to accept it though…

  • Buffettgirl

Thanks for this… I needed something that made it funny-ish again…

  • tkaz

This triggered a memory. Evidently chewing through one would be difficult because my husband said cutting through one is like cutting a pencil. It’s hard!

  • Mejustmeagain

    Tom who?

  • Laura_RT

Made me think of all the times I watched cats give birth as a kid…

  • http://www.dreamindemon.com Count Rackula

    Yeah, yeah. No fucks given.

  • DeweyCheatam

And worse, it’s becoming more and more and more common.

  • Buffettgirl

    Amen Dewey, amen… smh…

  • mean birch

It was just a HASSEL to get the scissors.

  • mean birch

Its bad for the teeth to use them in such a mannet, oh wait…do methheads have teeth?

I know how you feel. When I miscarried my baby I wanted to murder every pos out there who hurt their kids. Here is was trying to have a baby doing everything right even before I got pregnant just in case I was. Then I get the wonderful news and tell everyone. A few months later my world crashed down around me. The rage I felt when I would hear stories of abuse of a child was insane (I think I too was slightly insane at the time). I honestly believe if I had witnessed any abuse myself at that time I would be serving time for murder. Here they had this gift from god and they hurt it. I never got meet my precious angel and my heart still breaks when I think about it. I had my youngest son a year later and he had heart issues (vsd) his first year and we almost lost him as well (once Again did everything right except I drank once before I knew I was pregnant as we had stopped trying). Even now it enrages me to hear of people hurting children. Just now I am more likely to maim instead of murder. Lol

  • Lena60

Hell, It makes me gag when I find an umbilical cord in my scrambled eggs. I try to get all them suckers out before I scramble my eggs.

  • Baroo

    FloriDuh says it all.

  • Texas Ranger

Nothing hotter than a prego crack whore from Florida. ..specially one with good strong sharp teeth.

  • ThatOneMom

Daddy would you like some sausage

  • Jessie

Ask Keith Richards how he is still fucntional. Drugs have a way of preserving some people, I think. Like formaldehyde preserves things.

  • Sara

I almost miscarried my son at 11 weeks, so I know the terror. And when I was in the hospital giving birth, the doctor told me my son had a 20% chance of living. I almost died, too. But I have never experienced the sorrow that comes from losing a child. Almost isn’t the same as actually experiencing it. I am so sorry you have had that experience. It’s something that no mother should ever have to endure.
I hope your son is doing better now, even with the heart issues (that must have been terrifying!) Mine is autistic–probably due more to genetics than to his prematurity, although that may have played a factor–and I love him with all my heart. As far as I’m concerned, he’s perfect. The thought of anyone harming him or any child provokes deep rage and a desire to protect.

  • Sara

I know…I read the headline and was thinking, “Please don’t be Florida, please don’t be Florida, please don’t be…DAMMIT!” *facepalm* I live in Florida. I’m one of the semi-intelligent minority. I hope. I’ve heard that stupid people don’t realize they’re stupid. So I may have already imbibed whatever’s in the water here and already be infected.

  • http://www.dreamindemon.com Count Rackula

Uh, it’s taped. It’s just for fun. I taped it there for fun.

  • Sacheverelle

That poor baby getting hit with in utero with crack cocaine. I don’t think she’ll be getting her kids back from child services.

  • ShelbySP

Keith Richards has been dead for about 25 years, idk how he’s still around.

  • LuvsHorror

I’ll send you the drano. If I can watch.

  • Defafan

Get your tubes tied you f*cking JUNKIE.

  • Baroo

I lived in Florida for a while after I graduated college. I had a job offer from Halifax Medical Center in Daytona Beach. I didn’t see the stupidity so much there. Then I moved to Leesburg and I thought everyone was on crack.

Then I moved to Rock Hill, SC and thought the Leesburg folk were all right after all.

  • Ann Stone

That poor fetus had to get the hell out of Dodge.

  • WarriorArtemis

At least she didn’t let the kid die… (in retrospect, I find it depressing that was my first thought when reading this)

  • MrClayton

  • VenusDoom3

Every time sausage is served within my vicinity, I sing that. EVERY time. No one knows what the hell I’m talking about.

  • VenusDoom3

Does it make me a bad parent to admit The Bum Bum Song has been on my daughter’s playlist on my iPod since she was about 4?

  • PaulyG4

Quite the contrary. It makes you an awesome parent.
