Steamboat Springs, CO – An idiot is facing some serious charges after she left her 3-year-old son home alone for 20 hours and returned home to find him dead.
Megan McKeon, 24, was in the habit of leaving her young son, Austin Davis, home alone inside her small cabin at a local campground while she went to work. According to police, she admitted having done this at least 20 times before with no issues.
But on March 26, she left Austin home alone while she went to work her job at a grocery store. She figured he would be fine as she’d left him with food, juice and a movie playing. Instead of returning home after her shift was over, she returned home the following morning after spending the night at her boyfriend’s house.
She returned home to find Austin dead, lying face up with his eyes wide open. An official cause of death for the boy has not been revealed at this point, but a doctor who tried to save Austin’s life believes the boy may have accidentally poisoned himself with prescription medication or other substances.
McKeon was initially tried to plead guilty to three misdemeanor counts of child abuse, but the district attorney didn’t feel the 42 months in jail she may receive was enough punishment for someone this goddamn dumb, so he dropped the charges. He now plans on charging McKeon with felony child abuse resulting in death.
Austin’s grandmother is pleased with the new charges and hopes that McKeon gets what she deserves.
“All she had to do was call me. There’s no if, ands or buts to what happened, it’s her fault no matter what happened. She is accountable for that baby,” said Charity O’Konski. “Nothing is ever going to be enough, because he will never come back to us but she took his life away and the only way to take her life away is to let her sit behind those bars and let her think about what she did.”
This Austin kid didn’t have much of a chance, to be honest. His mother is dumber than a season of The Walking Dead, and his father is currently serving time in prison for not registering as a sex offender after he allegedly tried soliciting sex from multiple underage teen girls.
He’d been better off had they cut his umbilical cord then set him in front of the hospital with some cab fare and directions to a local NAMBLA member.Austin Davis, Child Abuse, Child Neglect, Colorado, Crime, Megan McKeon
