ESCONDIDO, CA - A child care center in Escondido has been shut down after the center’s owner threw a metal chair at a 6-year-old girl, hitting the child in the face.
The incident happened in August at the Wahaha Child Care Center when the center’s owner, Xiao Yan Hu, allegedly threw a metal folding chair at 6-year-old Imani. The chair struck Imani in the face, leaving her with a bruised and scarred cheek.
According to Imani, Hu tried bribing her into not telling her mother of the incident, which was also witnessed by Imani’s 10-year-old brother, by offering her a bag of lollipops. The ploy didn’t work and Imani told her mother what happened. The California Department of Social Services eventually got involved and went to the center on Sept. 12 to interview staff and children. After they were done, they ordered the center to close its doors immediately.
“The licensee threw a chair at a child in care, causing injury to the child. The Department believes that, as a consequence, the licensee, and the continued operation of this facility, pose a risk to the health and safety of day care children,” CDSS stated in their report.
Regardless, Imani’s mother is still (rightfully) pissed. “I haven’t gotten ‘I’m sorry, is she OK’ … nothing,” said Keilana. “All I got from her was a bag of lollipops, 80 lollipops for my daughter to chew on and mess up her teeth so she wouldn’t tell me what happened, so I was very upset about that.”
When one of the center’s teachers was asked about the incident, she said she did not witness it, but was not surprised. She said Hu was only in the business for the money and didn’t care much for the children. “We all say you have to have a heart to be in this business, and we saw that she didn’t,” she said.Tags: Assault, California, chair, Child Abuse, Crime, day care, Xia Yan Hu
