Ahlittia NorthHARVEY, LA – The body of a missing six-year-old girl has been found in a dumpster in the apartment complex where she lived.

The parents of Ahlittia North reported her missing after her stepfather woke up Saturday morning to find her missing, along with a queen-sized blanket, a toothbrush and toothpaste.

On Monday, police said they had a person of interest in North’s disappearance – the 20-year-old nephew of North’s stepfather. Matthew Flugence lived on the same block and has an outstanding warrant against him for an alleged sexual battery of an 11-year-old. According to JPSO Col. John Fortunato, police have been unable to locate him.

North’s body was found early this morning, inside a dumpster near the end of the apartment complex where she lived. The dumpster was removed at around 5 a.m., and FBI agents showed up a couple of hours later to help deputies with the case and to question other residents.

Fortunato said that the weekend search included garbage bins near the residence, including sifting through garbage collected from several cans and dumpsters. There’s been no official report that investigators had previously searched the dumpster where Ahlittia was found, but North’s stepfather said he was told that whoever had her “must have brought her back there.”

JPSO announced they will be holding a press conference at 3 p.m. today and will not be releasing any further information until then.

This reminds me of the case in Georgia a couple years back, where 20-year-old Ryan Brunn was accused of abducting 7-year-old Jorelys Rivera at an apartment complex. Rivera was sexually assaulted before her dead body was also found inside a dumpster at the apartment complex.

So did she run away, and then get kidnapped? I can’t see why she would have taken a tooth brush and tooth paste unless she was running away, or some one told her that they’d be gone for awhile. It seems like there’s more going on here.

  • Buffettgirl

Poor littlest Angel-butt… Damn people make me sick! I wish just once, some murderer/rapist/criminal could explain to me how they get past the concept that what they are doing, or are about to do, is wrong and will quite literally destroy lives, yet somehow they give themselves the permission to proceed. I don’t understand it at all. The thought of doing something that I knew from the start would end up destroying someone is repugnant to me…

  • Ugh

  • augh 🙁 I was really hoping they’d find her alive, RIP

  • MilfOf2

    People freaking suck!

  • BrittBrittRoss

Maybe that was part of the ruse to get her out off the house without a struggle. If it was a family member that took her, maybe he said he was taking her to another relatives house to stay, & she wanted to take her toothbrush so she can brush her teeth? Or maybe she wanted to stop to brush & he said “Just bring it with you, you can brush when we get there”? Ugh 🙁

  • sweekymom

Poor little sweetheart. I shudder to think what the last two days of her life were like. Fortunately, this was done in Louisiana, so whoever did this will probably have a date with a gurney and a needle coming up in his future.

  • :/

  • MilfOf2

Im guessing the kidnapper took those things to make it look like she ran away.

  • Evan

    also an interesting thought

  • Evan

at least they found her before the trash compactor did.

  • MilfOf2

I just dont understand why anyone would think a 6 yr old ran away.

  • EveryVillainIsLemons

Fuck. I was hoping she would be found alive. Here’s hoping they find the fuckface responsible for her death and nail him to the wall.

I think I read that stepdads nephew is in custody as a person of interest (w prior allegations, maybe convictions, for sex assault of an 11 yo). So, I imagine he fed her some bs, to get her to willingly walk out of house, quietly, and told her to bring stuff w her.

  • Damn it! I had a feeling this would be the outcome. 🙁

I was doing some major research into slavery (which ended up with sex trafficking research as well) for my class last semester. I was chatting to one of the librarians about my research and he echoed your question, Buffettgirl. He couldn’t understand why there were people capable of the worst atrocities. Here’s what I told him:

“To us, committing this [fill in the atrocity] is unthinkable because we were raised to think it to be unthinkable. It pains people like you to cause pain to anyone. Sadly, the people who commit these sort of atrocities are often raised to not think of their victims as living beings. They think of them as others and thus beneath their level of care.”

I hope people like this piece of work are the minority but sometimes I wonder

  • Flugence now wanted for murder:

A man earlier named as a ‘person of interest’ in the disappearance and death of a Harvey girl is now wanted for her murder.

Sheriff Newell Normand and other Parish officials today spoke about the discovery of the body of 6-year-old Ahlittia North overnight in a garbage bin near the family’s apartment.

Officials say there were “no obvious signs of sexual assault” on the girl.

Normand said at a news conference that following the report that the child was missing, officers found a pool of blood and spent shell casings near the apartment complex, about seven doors down. That blood was submitted for DNA testing, which Normand noted takes some time.

The Sheriff said witnesses told officials they heard gunshots on the Friday evening that the girl was reported missing.

During the investigation, the JPSO named Matthew Flugence as a ‘person of interest.’ Police say there was a warrant out for Flugence in connection with the alleged sexual battery of an 11-year-old.

Sunday night, the DNA results on the blood revealed that blood was that of the missing girl.

“We know Matthew Flugence was in and around those crime scenes” through the weekend, according to Normand.

After interviewing Flugence’s brother Russell Flugence, “We are satisfed that Russel had information about this particular crime,” Normand said, “and that he revealed to us some circumstances that may implicate Matthew in the murder of Ahlittia North. We are in the process of procuring arrests warrants for Matthew Flugence for murder.”

The brother is in jail on a charge of obstruction of justice, according to police.

Flugence, who is the nephew of Ahlittia North’s stepfather, had babysat for the victim before, according to Normand.

“This is the ultimate nightmare for any parent,” Normand said.

The coroner said an autopsy showed that North was stabbed twice in the neck and twice in the abdomen. He said there were no obvious signs of sexual assault. Sheriff said they’re still waiting on more tests to know for sure.

On the night North disappeared, a queen-sized blanket, toothbrush and toothpaste was also missing. When deputies found North’s body, she was wrapped in that same blanket, Normand said, and was still wearing the same clothing that she had on Friday night.

Jefferson Parish coroner Gerry Cvitanovich said Ahlittia had two very aggressive stab wounds to the neck, which were probably her fatal wounds. She had two stab wounds to her abdomen and bruising on her body. Cvitanovich said the girl had no immediate signs of sexual assault.

Cvitanovich said the fatal stab wounds went down to through cartilage in her spine to the bone. “That’s a very aggressive stab wound,” he said.

My head knows you’re right… It’s my heart that has trouble with all of this… 😉

  • Jessica Stewart

Right? That’s what I’m thinking. Just bizarre that they wouldn’t have warned her to stay well away from him.

  • Vesper B

I’m reading a book on the atrocities committed in Argentina during the Dirty War. I have to put the book down once in a while to contemplate the sheer devastation.

I understand where you are coming from.

  • Stepdaddys child molesting ass nephew, i still think stepdaddy he seems to like them real young

  • Stepdaddys child molesting ass nephew, i still think stepdaddy he seems to like them real young

  • How sad another child lost and thrown in the trash like garbage suffering a horrific fate at the hands of some selfish asshole shmuck trying to fill his own twisted desires..

What concerns me, and I am not placing blame exactly simply pointing out things that stick out to me. But, if stepdad (and I guess mom) knew right away to place blame on this particular relative of the stepfathers, not only did they suspect him but he had been charged of a crime involving children AND THEY LET HIM BABYSIT IN THE PAST!!? Did I read that correctly? Now I have to go back and see. Maybe this babysitting thing happen prior to their knowledge of his crime…
OH that was information I read in a still if they suspected this guy, they no longer trusted him around the girl and so when she vanished their minds went straight to him. (the parents)

  • Chinchillazilla

The phrase “very aggressive stab wounds” confuses me. Aren’t all stab wounds very aggressive by their very nature?

  • kimbev69

i am so suspicious of the stepdad for some reason, esp since you didn’t hear shit about this 20 yr old sometimes living in the home til days later…what is up with that…and when they did hear about it was it neighbors that told the cops or was it the mom and stepdad who let a child molester watch her daughter

  • Disc0rdia

Can I have the name of book?

  • Prickly Elevator Music

  • Vesper B

Of course. The book’s title is “A Lexicon of Terror : Argentina and the Legacies of Torture” by Marguerite Feitlowitz.
