Port Deposit, MD – Police in Maryland say they have a person of interest in custody in connection to the death of 10-year-old Kami Ring.
On Monday, 10-year-old Kami Ring was reported missing. The straight-A student had been last seen on June 9 inside the home she lived with her grandparents. When she was unable to be located the following morning, 911 was called.
That evening, police found Kami’s body 60 yards away beside a shed in a field across the street. How Kami died has not been released, but MSP spokeswoman Elena Russo says it appears foul play was involved.
On Tuesday, police arrested Kami’s uncle, 29-year-old Richard Madden Jr, who also lived in the home. While searching the home, Maryland State Police homicide detectives found cocaine and marijuana pipes that belonged to Madden. He has a criminal history dating back to 2004, including a recent conviction for theft that had him sentenced to five years in prison.
He was released last October, but these latest charges violate the terms of his probation. Madden admitted to deputies he is currently on parole and stated he would fail a urine test for drugs. Police have not named Madden as a suspect in Kami’s murder, but have said they have a person of interest in custody. They have decided not to release his mugshot at this time.
This may be because they do not want people automatically assuming that his arrest means he is guilty of murdering Kami. Keep in mind, it was revealed that the window in the room Ring was believed to have been sleeping was found open by investigators and that the screen was popped out.
Kami used to live in Charlestown with her mother, stepfather and two younger half-siblings. But for reasons currently unknown, she was living with the couple n Port Deposit she considered her grandparents, and her two siblings are in the care of social services.
Life can truly be unfair. Kami was delivered some hard knocks at a young age, but seemed to be rolling with the punches and making the best of things, only to wind up dead in a field at 10-years-old.
