drown dogSPRING, TX – The mother of an 11-year-old boy has been charged with child abandonment after she left her son home alone and he decided to kill some time by choking and drowning a neighbor’s dog.

On May 26, the dog’s owner noticed her dog was not in the yard and checked out her surveillance camera footage to see what may have happened. Video captured her neighbor’s son sneaking into her yard and snatching her dog, so she called police. When they arrived at the boy’s home, they found he was there alone. home alone.

The boy told them that his mother had been gone since earlier that morning and eventually confessed he’d taken the small dog, choked it unconscious and then drowned it in a hot tub at a nearby vacant house. He led police to the dead dog’s body and returned the corpse back to the extremely distraught owner.

Police called his mother several times before finally reaching her. Once they made contact, they informed her they were waiting for her at her home. She got there an hour later with the boys father, a truck driver whose truck had broke down in Buffalo, Texas. At first she said she had left the boy with her sister so she could go get her husband, but then admitted she had left the boy there alone because she was in a hurry.

The boy’s parents were reportedly shocked at what their son had done, but the neighbor said she had heard the mom say her son had fantasies about killing animals. The mother, 41-year-old Desiree Gillard, was charged for failing to provide her son with proper adult supervision in her absence. Her bail was set at $5,000. Her son’s case will be referred to juvenile court.

OMG!! Stop with the animal killing stories 🙁 I hope the boy gets some sort of mental help.

  • cielodrive

If you look into the background of most serial killers, animal torture/killing came first. Please keep him locked up!!!

  • okay.. would you rather come home and find your kid killed a neighbors pet…. or had sex with it…. damn thats a tough one

  • newstarshipsmell

    Or chip him, at least.

  • “The neighbor said she had heard the mom say her son had fantasies about killing animals.” Aside from that, what’s wrong with leaving an 11 year old alone during daylight for a few hours?

  • I hope that kid dies.

  • Damn,I would love to strangle and drown that little POS…that poor owner. I would move if I was her,in case she gets another animal.RIP sweet dog…:((.

  • next serial killer in the making. As for whats wrong with leaving an 11 year old alone while you travel out of town well alot of things can happen not just to the kid. What if the mom’s car would have broken down, been in an accident etc. It is obvious by her comments that she couldn’t be bothered to take him and knew he had problems so why not just leave him alone always the smart choice

  • John Douros

This little pos needs to be drowned. Nothing can be done to fix it. Just eradicate it.

  • newstarshipsmell

Maybe he thought the hot tub was a time machine that would let him go back in time and bring the dog back to life. Kids have strange ideas, sometimes.

  • JohnQknowitall

Even in over the top Islamic ruled countries people are not convicted in advance of their crimes.

  • JohnQknowitall

    The dog or the boy?

  • Horrible bitch

  • Texas Ranger

No, apparently Newstarshipsmell’s has some strange ideas. Or has been watching a Dr. Who marathon on BBC.

You know, I keep trying to get into the new Who. I just can’t. Not that I was a huge fan of the original run, but I at least enjoyed watching it.

  • ultracreep

I don’t think with some kids that 11 is too young to be left at home alone for awhile. I was home alone from 8 years old on, but in this kid’s case he should never be left alone, ever. Little psycho.

  • Kasie K

That is so true, but those closest to this behavior seem to have blinders on

  • Texas Ranger

Me too. His chick sidekick is awesome hott. Yes 2 ‘t’s hot. The very fact I know what SteamPunk is worries the shit outta this cowboy…need a good John Wayne movie right now I think…get things back to normal ya know?

  • 18th40

El Dorado, you can’t go wrong there.

  • i have left my 11 year old alone plenty of times, i think that this charge is because he killed the neighbors animal.

  • No,its because she left that worthless piece of flesh by himself. The little asshole has not been charged for cruelly killing that beautiful little dog.

  • My Mom worked part-time, when I was 11 I had my own house keys.

My son will be 11 next week. If he did this, I would know to lose all hope.
    This mother knew better.

  • Equality_Enforcer

The mother knew that he had fantasies about this sick shit before he did it?! I would have threw his crazy ass into therapy the minute he said that and I would have told him that if he ever hurt an animal he would get a severe punishment. Shit, tell him that any animal he hurts comes back as a demon that will attack him every day afterwards if that puts fear into him!

  • Pyncky

If you are in India out on a hike, and a cobra is in front of you. If the snake coils up and faces you. Are you going to shoot it or wait to see if it strikes?

  • techsupp0rt

If you know your kid is probably a psycho, you probably shouldn’t EVER leave them home alone.

  • newstarshipsmell

I would whip my cock out and shut my eyes tight, and thumb my nose at fate. But I’m fucking weird.

  • Slouchy

Sharia is for pussies. Just kidding, terrorists, but seriously — torturing animals is like the textbook warning sign. It kills me how every time some serial killer gets caught he’s trailing a lifetime of red flags behind him.

  • EveryVillainIsLemons

Glad they’re charging the mom, too. If she knew he was having fantasies about harming animals, more than that was probably going on. The kid needs consequences for killing the dog, but he also needs serious mental help NOW.

  • JohnQknowitall

I don’t know where you are, but I am I’m the United States. Here human life comes first. If I were in Maryland and came across an aggressive snake I would kill it in a heart beat.I don’t do guns. Is shooting the dog more acceptable to you?

  • Athena

Most serial killers have a history of torturing or killing animals. Most people with a history of torturing or killing animals do not become serial killers.

Yes, there is a documented correlation, but it’s not that strong.

  • I disagree.

  • Any child who fantasizes about killing animals is too far gone.

  • newstarshipsmell

Well I tortured animals when I was a kid – I came out okay.

  • newstarshipsmell
  • Jose Pinones

Animal Abusers should all be killed!!!! They should be broken up by one with an aluminum bat, and the other two with steel pipes. They should aim at everything except his head, if he/she passes out wake him/her, or wait till they wake up, and continue making sure not to miss the shin, knee, and arms. Don’t mess with the big shock absorbing body parts, just hit the extremities that break, but don’t let him/her die for a good while.

  • Slouchy

Everybody drowns a cat or two. But not a coot wittle smuffy puppy.

  • Jessica Stewart

    Says who?……….. 😉

  • Jessica Stewart

LMAO, but then I’m not a cat lover.

  • Jessica Stewart

Are you gau-run-teed to hit it in this scenario? or just piss it off?

  • Jessica Stewart

Would you be hoping that the cobra thought that YOUR “snake” just had a giant, man shaped hood attached? lol

  • Jessica Stewart

Fuck Yeah! He was amazing in IT crowd!

  • rpgmomma8404

By law in some states a child has to be 13 years old to be left home alone. Laws vary from state to state.

  • newstarshipsmell

My mind would probably already be focused entirely on some unrelated subject.

  • newstarshipsmell

He’s even better in Garth Marenghi’s Darkplace and Man to Man with Dean Learner.

  • Buffettgirl

It’s when they hit the trifecta of bed-wetting, fire starting and animal torture that you REALLY have to worry about things…

  • Buffettgirl

At least here in Oregon it’s legal to leave a child alone at the age of 10. They have to be at least 12 to be in charge of other children, but to be on their own it’s only 10.

  • Buffettgirl

I’m with you – how in the HELL do I know what SteamPunk is??? If it weren’t for Devon Monk and her Age of Steam series I wouldn’t have a clue. (If any of ya’ll like urban fantasy, steampunky, sci fi stuff with a serious sense of humor you ought to check Devon and her writing out! Yes, I know her, but only barely, her husband used to be my sister’s boss, I only met her at a book signing, I was hooked on her style long before I got to meet her.)

  • Buffettgirl

Can anyone say sociopath??? I believe the Mother to be totally responsible here. She knew before hand that her child had these fantasies, leaving her budding-killer child alone for such an extended period puts this on her. Not letting the junior psycho off the hook by any means, but he’s sick, she knew and ignored…

  • Athena

You honestly think that most people who torture/kill animals as children grow into serial killers? There wouldn’t be anyone left for them to prey upon! 😛 Children torturing/killing animals is a much more common practice than you seem to be aware of.

Please, read before you disagree. Yes, we need to be strongly concerned when children mistreat animals, but it doesn’t do anyone any good to blow the correlation between animal abuse and serial killing out of proportion.

  • JohnHousecat

This kid killed a small dog with his bare hands because he had fantasies about killing animals.

    Lock the little shit up.

  • JohnHousecat

Regardless of the whole serial killer thing, a child with that kind of regard for LIFE in general will likely grow up to be somethin’ “special”. There is something very wrong with this child; he’s already 11 years old and has had fantasies about killing animals.

  • Twisted1

The is a provision in some states that holds a parent responsible civilly if they have been put on notice. Say you know your 15 yr old kid breaks into cars, you leave him alone and he breaks into a neighbors car. You are responsible because you knew he had the propensity to do this but did not take additional precautions to prevent it.

  • Twisted1

Even better you let him die multiple times but revive him over and over. So every time he thinks he is done you bring him back to torture some more. Honestly though this punishment should not be used on animal killers. Only child killers!

  • Twisted1

Thank you! Killing animals is also a sign of abuse. I have a friend who was raped by a family member on a regular basis. She was terrified to tell and became an angry child because no one protected her. She started abusing animals as a cry for help. Unfortunately her family did not notice/care. She had to run away to get away from the abuse. Years of therapy and lots of trust issues later she is relatively sane….or at least she is not a serial killer……….that I know of?

  • sweekymom

And he was great as Saboo in The Mighty Boosh. He was the only reason I went to see The Watch, an otherwise godawful movie with absolutely nothing else to recommend itself.

Signed the petition. I have never been able to get into Dr. Who, but if he were in the role, I’d watch.

  • newstarshipsmell

Concurrence. I haven’t seen The Watch yet, and he’s the only reason I’d consider it. Ditto on Who; I keep trying to get into it – if he took the helm, I would watch raptly.

  • Buffettgirl

They should be held responsible! That was what put the fear of God in us with our Mom, the threat of what would happen to us if SHE ever had to pay the price for something WE’D done… she’s one of those feisty, tiny little things that can still scare the shit out of anyone if she so chooses. At 46 years old and older my brother’s friends from childhood are still a little scared of her! 😉

  • Carrie Krueger

This kid needs to be institutionalized. He is a sociopath, and there is no amount of rehabilitation that will help him.
His parents need to be charged with negligence. This kid was expressing fantasies about killing animals, and they did nothing.

  • Amber Angeldust

I used to stay at home alone starting when I was 10. Then again, I’m not a sociopath.

  • Desiree Gillard

First of all my son did not have fantasies about killing animals. That is a total fabrication on the part of the reporter. Secondly, NO ONE not even the neighbors would have ever imagined he was capable of something like that. HE actually spent more time at the neighbors’ house than he did at home. It wasn’t simply as if he took the dog w/the intent to torture or kill it. After wanting to play with the dog he took it into our home and probably being in an unfamiliar surrounding the dog bit him and he reacted. I am in no way justifying or condoning what my son did, but get the facts and get them correctly before judging anyone. Maybe u are the sociopath

  • Desiree Gillard

How the fucc do u know what I knew???

  • Buffettgirl

First of all, we are about the same age, grow up and speak like an adult and a Mother and not like some teen-aged asshat. That might solve some of your child’s issues. Secondly, I don’t converse with people that can’t begin a dialogue with a little decorum. If you want my well-educated opinion on the matter, ask nicely, or go away. Thanks for playing our game…

  • DeweyCheatam

Yeah, you really come across as sympathetic and believable. Scum.

  • Buffettgirl

Sure – it’s everyone else, and not the child you brought into this world. My Mother taught me a very valuable lesson as a child “When it’s everyone else, it’s NOT!” Your child did this, you raised the child that did this. Stop blaming, stop making excuses and stop trying to deflect the issue by being a snarky bitch. Look in the mirror and say to yourself “I love my child but he did an incredibly bad thing. We as a family need to focus on the cure, and not on the extraneous things outside of our four walls. We failed him in some way, small or significant and this is the result. How do we fix this?” Then get help. For all of you. Honestly, why are you even here on this site? You are only torturing yourself and that helps nothing. You don’t need anymore negativity regarding your child and honestly, most people here, due to experience, probably won’t buy your version of events, especially if you come out of the gate in a rage…
