Joann Goulet LePageMIDDLETOWN, CT – Joann LePage was arrested after getting her 14-year-old daughter drunk on margaritas while the pair dined at a Mexican restaurant.

On Feb 27, 51-year-old Joann LePage and her 14-year-old daughter were dining at Puerto Vallarta on Main Street in Middletown around 7:30 p.m. on Feb. 27.

The manager said that during the course of their meal, he served LePage three margaritas. He was later notified by customers sitting nearby that there was something going on with LePage and her daughter.

The manager kept an eye on them and noticed LePage sliding her margarita over to her daughter to drink. That’s when Puerto Vallarta Manager Margarito Rodriguez walked over to their table.  “I took the drink and told them they had to leave. And they’re not allowed to come back again.”

But when he noticed the girl was slurring and stumbling, he called police and an ambulance. When police arrived, they found the teen was highly intoxicated. She admitted to police that her mother had been giving her alcohol throughout dinner.

The teen was taken to the hospital for treatment and her father was called who took custody of the teenager. Joann LePage was arrested and charged with felony risk of injury to a minor. She will appear in court tomorrow.

“I’ve been working in restaurants since 1986,” Rodriguez said. “I mean you have kids trying to order drinks, but never anyone trying to give drinks to their own child and especially that young. I’ve never seen anything like that.”

Christ, every good mother knows you start them out slow – maybe with a few wine coolers and then you let them work their way up to hard liquor.

I was allowed to drink at that age, but not to the point of drunkenness, and never in public. Parentals had to let me drink some of my own wares if they planned on me still making THEIR drinks at that age.
In public though, and to high intoxication, is pretty fucked though. The brain isn’t even done developing, don’t pickle it yet!

3 margaritas? What was she trying to do, get in her daughter’s pants? Or perhaps she was hoping to trick her into doing the housework when she didn’t have the power to say no?

But seriously. Having drinking not be a taboo or an exciting ‘naughty’ thing for her child to do, fine. Teaching her to eat something as well as drinking to ‘soak’ up some of the alcohol, great. But FFS, woman – you don’t teach her to become a binge drinker! Gawd, at that age even half a lager shandy had me under the table.

Damn… if that’s what you’d do for a dollar, I’m afraid to ask what you’d do for a Klondike Bar.

Not too smart! Geez what a moron! I mean ya i drank at that age but not to the point of getting blasted poor kid hope she’s okay

I think at 14 I would have been creeped out if my Mom was giving me drinks – especially at a restaurant! I mean sure, I was stealing wine coolers and getting pissed with my friends (I had the BEST purse for that!) but I wouldn’t have done it in front of my Mom!

Boy, I tell you jailers have a wicked sense of humor – they could have let Joann keep her dentures in until after the mugshot was taken … but nooooooo.

Next time, stay home and make home made margaritas so that you and your 14 year old can drink without worry.

I am not sure why this is a big deal, this is legal in Wisconsin:

Can an underage person possess and consume alcohol beverages on licenses premises?

Yes. Persons under age 21 may possess and consume alcohol beverages if they are with their parents, guardians or spouses of legal drinking age; but this is at the discretion of the licensee. The licensed premise may choose to prohibit consumption and possession of alcohol beverages by underage persons.

Have you seen the price of a Klondike bar lately?

  • JGo555

Not even in Mexican culture is a 14 yo allowed to drink.

I remember my mom letting me try a sip of her drink at a restaurant when I was about that age. I was just honestly curious if the drink tasted the way it looked. It was some fancy-ass, candy-colored concoction. I thought it would be like liquid dessert. She let me take one sip (the place was empty). IIRC, it tasted about like pure cheap bourbon. Turned me off alcohol for another few years.
