Saginaw, TX - Police say 24-year-old Jeffrey Hansana senselessly murdered 33-year-old Dr. Deidra Blackmon after one of Blackmon’s friends threw up near his car in a convenience store parking lot.
Last Saturday night, Blackmon and two female friends were out celebrating one of the women getting married this week. Shortly before midnight, Blackmon pulled her Lexus over at a convenience store.
Surveillance footage captures Blackmon walking into the store, followed by 22-year-old Heather Rene Thompson, whose boyfriend, Jeffery Hansna, was waiting outside in his car.
When Blackmon walked back out, followed by Thompson, they found one of Blackmon’s friends had thrown up in the parking lot, some of it hitting Hansana’s car. According to police, a few words were exchanged between Blackmon’s friends and Thompson. They do not believe Hansana said a word during the exchange between the women.
Hansana and Thompson drove away, and Blackmon left a few seconds later. Within a mile, Hansana drove up to Blackmon’s Lexus and fired three to five times, hitting the Lexus once. But that’s all it took, as that one round went through the rear passenger window and struck Blackmon in the head.
After hearing the shots, Blackmon’s friends thought she had driven her Lexus into a field as an evasive maneuver, until one of them saw that Blackmon was unresponsive and bleeding.
As Hansana fled the scene, a passerby heard the women screaming and called for help. Blackmon, a veterinarian who graduated from Texas A&M University in 2010, was rushed to the hospital but was pronounced dead a short time later.
Hansana and Thompson were arrested on Monday after police released a photograph of Thompson taken from the surveillance camera inside the convenience store, and someone called in with a tip.
Hansana is facing a murder charge and is being held on $250,000 bail. Thompson will be charged with failure to report a felony and is being held on $10,000 bail.
Blackmon was the designated driver that night, according Dr. Bruce Nixon, chief of staff at Animal Emergency Hospital of North Texas, where Blackmon worked. She normally worked Saturday nights at the hospital, but had taken off to celebrate her friend’s upcoming wedding.
Saginaw police are still baffled as to what could have been said between the women that would lead to Hansana committing murder. “We are at a loss about what sparked all this,” said Saginaw Police Chief Roger Macon.
I have an idea why. When I was a teenager, I got into a minor wreck with my girlfriend while trying to show off in my car. My friends ragged me about this for years, claiming that my girlfriend had egged me on. She didn’t, but whenever the subject came up, someone would undoubtedly mimic a girl’s voice while exclaiming, “Get a wheel, Morbid! Get a wheel!”
This lead to our own in-joke whenever a guy gets into trouble while showing off in front of his girl. For example, in this case, I’m guessing Hansana got a wheel.
