Florida Man Charged After Child Drinks Drano From Sippy Cup In Meth Lab

Florida - Jonathan Wayne Glass is behind bars after his child drank Drano from a sippy cup inside a Florida home meth lab.

The Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office said the incident happened on Feb 20th, when an unsupervised child found a sippy cup in the bathroom of an apartment where meth was being produced. Thinking it contained juice, the child drank the drain cleaner and the reaction was immediate.

Police say that the people inside the apartment waited 30 minutes before trying to get help for the child, who was eventually transported to the hospital for treatment and remains in critical condition.

The reason why the Drano was being stored in a child’s sippy cup inside an apartment where a child resides is because it’s a common component used in the manufacture of meth, and Florida.

Jonathan Wayne Glass is being held in the Santa Rosa County Jail without bond. He’s been charged with one count of cruelty towards a child, abuse that causes great bodily harm or disability, three counts of possession of a harmful drug without a prescription, four counts of drug possession without a prescription, one count of opium or derivative trafficking and one count of possessing or using drug equipment.

Debbie Anne Harris, 43; John Quincy Adams, 45; Justin Eric Godwin, 30; and Ronnie Eugene Olson, 39, are facing drug charges in connection to the alleged meth lab. As for the child’s mother, 25-year-old Victoria Lauren Cain, she was charged with child neglect.

I remember putting laundry detergent inside a empty water bottle because i took my boyfriends clothes to the laundry mat.. i used half the bottle then im driving home and not paying attention thinking its water i drank it… it burned so bad and tasted so disgusting! i cant imagine how drano musta been for that poor child they should give those people drano for their jail time drink and see how they like it! I hope that the mother gets her child taken away from her and as far as the other people go they should stay behind bars

Wow, a sippy cup. Were there no other containers in the trailer from which to hold such a strong chemical? Hell, I’m not even sure it would be safe to drink out of after being run through the dishwasher (if they even had one.) Poor baby. I wonder how they pegged Glass as the responsible party – was he the father of the kid or maybe everyone pointed their fingers at him?

EDIT: Ok I read the linked article. He was the dad. I’m just settling down to my coffee after all… lol

There might not be a need to take the child away…it’s quite possible he/she won’t survive. And, given the injuries that result from having Drano in your esophagus and stomach for more than 30 minutes, it might be better if the child doesn’t survive. I agree with your recommended punishment- wholeheartedly.

Even if you simply didn’t want to get caught with a lab, take the fucking kid to the hospital. Butt in line. Hand the child to the attendant and say the kid drank X amount of draino from this cup. Leave. Get in your car and disappear. They should all get extra time for the 30 minute cluster fuck conference which led to what they instinctively should have done in the first damn place. I hope the child is okay. Damn that pisses me off.

Agreed. More than likely, the child will die from his injuries. It’s a horrible, painful way to die.

Most of the damage is done when the person aspirates the drano which burns whatever is left of the esophagus, gets into the lungs and sinus cavity.

I did a 1:1 with a 15 y/o girl who drank 2 tablespoons of drano with water. I was with her for 4 days – the 4th day she died. The doctors had done everything they could do to try to save her, but knew she would die in the end.

It’s been 20+ years ago and I can still see her face as clear as day and the smell of her flesh.

I still cry.
