Derek Stilson Accused Of Spiking His Baby To Stop It From Crying

HANAHAN, SC – Court documents state 23-year-old Derek Stilson fractured his infant’s skull when he angrily threw the baby on the ground when he wouldn’t quit crying.

On February 21, Stilson called 911 to report his son wasn’t acting normal after telling the child’s mother that the infant rolled over and began having stroke-like symptoms.

“I don’t know how this…I’ve never seen this before,” Stilson says to a 911 dispatcher. “Are they going to take him to the hospital or something?”

EMS workers did just that, and doctors at Medical University of South Carolina discovered the baby’s skull was fractured and there was bleeding and swelling on his brain.

While being interviewed, Stilson would admit to Hanahan Police Department investigators that, two days prior, he threw his baby son on the floor because he could not stop him from crying.

Here’s a Morbid tip for those of you who think spiking an infant will stop them from crying: If it does, you’ve probably killed it.

At that age, it’s a lot simpler to just thump the soft spot. It’s like a light switch. I did that with my son all the time when he was a baby, with no ill side effects aside from a year of him screaming “Das Leben ist nur ein Traum, und wir sind der Phantasie von uns!” whenever we gave him a bath.

Anyway, Stilson was charged with inflicting great bodily harm upon a child and is being held in the Hill-Finklea Detention Center under a $250,000 bond. His son has since been removed from the ICU but remains in critical condition and in protective custody.

Future baby spikers, let me school you. My last baby went through a full six months of colic. Place noob in crib, safely. Throwing, pinching, punching, even screaming doesn’t work. Run a damn shower. Sitting on the floor of the shower and crying for 20 minutes is optional. Good now you should be calm, maybe baby cried itself to sleep. Good. If not, bring out the vacuum cleaner, let it run while you sit next to it. That damn vacuum cleaner saved me every night at 7:45pm to 9pm.

Daughter had colic. Neighbors called the police one night when I had the windows open (forgot to shut them). They thought my daughter was home alone or something because she would not stop crying. I swear I was ready to pull my hair out. No matter how bad it got I never thought of hurting her. Now myself that is another story. I really thought about banging my head into a wall just to get a little sleep.

My youngest had colic for 5 months. I had never experienced that before so it was so stressful. I put the baby in a crib and ran around my yard till I calmed down. I will never understand why people don’t put the baby in the crib and WALK AWAY.

My parents said I had colic when I was a baby and I use to scream day and night. They ended up resorting to putting my crib in the pantry room every night so I would cry myself to sleep.

Damn,.. All I did was lay my colicky kid on my chest while sleeping in the easy chair. Worked like a fricken charm. We we’re lucky though. My wife worked 3rd shift and I worked 1st,.. so we always had an adult ready to sleep. However, the kid basically spent the 1st 5 months of life stuck to an adult’s chest.

And just to note: The only thing that get’s spiked in my house,.. is my drink.

Please DD “Accused of spiking his baby to stop it from crying” first off it’s not an “it” it’s a baby. Never heard the term spiking to mean throwing an infant down.

Update: Both parents have now been charged after the hospital found a previously broken leg that was in the stages of healing so that’s the good news. The bad news is the infant is still in critical condition at only five months old in God’s hands now. Derek’s step father Joel an ordained minister doesn’t believe his step son inflicted the injuries to his infant claims the police coerced his confession. Believe it Pastor Joel everyone knows the worse ones are the minister’s kids or in your case your step kid!
