Steubenville, OH — A video was released today by the hacktivist outfit KnightSec, that shows Michael Nodianos, a former Steubenville High student and baseball player, laughing and cracking jokes about two Steubenville High football players allegedly raping a 16-year-old girl.
We have gotten a lot of emails on why we have not covered the rape case going on in Steubenville, Ohio. The reason is that shortly after Alex Goddard from prinniefied.com began posting about it, we spoke on the phone and she gave me the lowdown. The truth is that there was just way too much information, and way too many layers for me to tackle — especially since I was flying DD solo at that time.
So for those of you unaware of the shitstorm going on in Steubenville, here’s the short version:
On April 11, 2011, a 16-year-old girl got trashed at a party attended by other Steubenville High students and athletes. So trashed that witnesses describe her being topless in the street vomiting, and being carried from one party to the next by two Big Red football players, Trent Mays and Ma’lik Richmond. While headed to one of these parties a football player told the police he videotaped Mays in the car penetrating the girl with his fingers while she “was just sitting there, not really doing anything.” He deleted the recording later, but not before showing it to one other person.
Witnesses at another party say the girl could not walk on her own and vomited several times. They say Mays then tried to get the unresponsive girl to give him a blowjob. Two witnesses testified that eventually the girl was on the ground, naked, unmoving and silent, while Richmond was behind her with his hands between her legs, penetrating her with his fingers. “I tried to tell Trent to stop it,” said Mays’s best friend. “You know, I told him, ‘Just wait — wait till she wakes up if you’re going to do any of this stuff. Don’t do anything you’re going to regret.’”
This did not stop Mays’s best friend from taking some pictures of what they were doing to the girl and showing it to several other people. He told the court he took the pictures so that the girl would know what happened, but ended up deleting them from his phone. When the girl woke up the next morning, she didn’t know what happened to her until she and her family saw the flood of explicit pictures and comments that were circulating YouTube, text messages, and Twitter.
One of these YouTube videos was the one you are about to see of Nodianos laughing about the girl possibly being raped at that very moment. It was unavailable until KnightSec got their hands on it and made it public. Nodianos is also the one who made posts on Twitter on the night of the alleged rape that read: “Song of the night is definitely Rape Me by Nirvana,” and “Some people deserve to be peed on.”
In the video that was just released, you can hear Nodianos go into a cringe-worthy comedy routine in which he references the girl as “dead girl” and remarks that she is deader than Caylee Anthony, Trayvon Martin, and 50 other things. Instead of re-hashing it, watch it for yourself — but note that near the end of the video, a couple other people there do have an issue with what was happening… they just didn’t do anything about it.
The case has sharply divided the town of Steubenville, with many backing the accused and many backing the accuser. Allegations of favoritism from town leaders who seem very protective over their football players, and even a defamation lawsuit filed against Alex Goddard and some of her site’s anonymous commenters (which was recently thrown out, thank god).
Like I said, lots of info, rumors, etc. But the entire thing really does sound like a really bad ’80s flick or an episode of Law & Order: SVU.
