Houston, TX – I am not a fan of PETA and their tactics, but every now and then they do something I like. Things like placing naked women in cages, and helping get people indicted for making and distributing videos depicting animals being tortured and killed.
There are a few type of videos that I absolutely abhor; child rape or abuse videos, flash mob videos, and animal crush videos. I’m sure most know what the first two videos consist of, but for those of you unaware of crush videos, let me ruin your day a bit. Crush videos are videos that usually depict small animals purposely being stepped on.
Back in August, PETA was alerted to some animal torture videos being sold online showing puppies, kittens, rabbits, mice, and other animals being tortured and killed. PETA determined that the alleged producers of the videos lived in Houston, Texas, and turned their evidence over to police.
Two days later, the Houston Police Department arrested Brent Justice, 51, and Ashley Richards, 22, charging them both with cruelty to non-livestock animals.
They were only facing a maximum of two years in prison until the other day when they were indicted by a federal grand jury for creating and distributing animal crush videos, making this the first federal indictment of a crush video case in the United States. This also means Justice and Richards are now looking at 45 years in federal prison and up to $1.75 million in fines.
Richards admitted to killing up to two animals a day for years, but investigators would only seize around 27 videos of animal torture with names like puppy 1, whitechick, and crushblackluvsample. These videos showed Justice and Richards torturing a puppy, kittens, a rabbit, mice, a pigeon, fish, lobsters, crabs, and other animals. The pair used high heeled shoes, a meat cleaver, knives, screwdrivers, pliers, and other devices.
When they were initially arrested in August, a Harris County magistrate halted the reading of the allegations against the pair “because they were too gruesome.” This included the description of one 2010 video in which Richards binds and gags a kitten with masking tape before stomping on the cat, including putting her high-heeled shoe through the kitten’s eye. Another video allegedly showed Richards using a meat cleaver to hack off a pit bull puppy’s leg and tail before using the meat cleaver to behead the struggling animal.
I’ve seen a few crush videos in my time, and they can really wreck your day. They’re the type of videos that can have you kicking yourself for letting your curiosity get the better of you while leaving your brain permanently imprinted with images you’d rather forget.
I feel that if you derive any form of pleasure from watching animals being tortured, kids being raped, or participating in flash mobs, you really should do the world a solid and just hang yourself. Now.
