Mentally Disabled Woman Raped On Public Bus For Over 10 MinutesCulver City, CA – Police in California are looking for a man they say raped a mentally disabled woman on a public bus for over 10 minutes.

According to police, the 18-year-old woman has the mental capacities of a 10-year-old. After she boarded Bus Line 217 on Wednesday afternoon, a man who got on at the same time begin sexually assaulting her at the back of the bus.

“The suspect followed her to the rear of the bus where she sat down,” sheriff’s officials said. “The suspect, without any warning or provocation, stood and faced her while positioning himself between her legs and sexually assaulted her.”

The bus was nearly empty, and only one passenger noticed what was going on. ”During the rape, an unknown witness, the only passenger on the bus, attempted to get the driver’s attention,” the department said in a statement.

I don’t know how hard it is to get a bus driver’s attention, but the passenger was unable to do so and the victim was too scared to scream out. So the victim was raped for 10 minutes, in broad daylight, as the bus cruised around Culver City. It wasn’t until the suspect got off the bus at Sepulveda Boulevard near Slauson Avenue, that the victim reported the rape to the driver.

Police say they’d really like to get this guy off the street. “We believe, based on the proximity of the crime being in such a public place and in broad daylight, that there’s a high likelihood he may have done this before,” Sgt. Dan Scott with LA County Sheriff’s Department.

Police say the suspect is a black male between 18 and 20 years old. He’s 5-feet 8 inches to 5 feet 10 inches tall with short-cropped hair and was wearing jeans with a hooded sweatshirt with narrow horizontal stripes. Anyone with information is asked to call authorities at (866) 247-5877. Anonymous tipsters call call (800) 222-8477.

Wow, he was only five feet tall huh?

  • Andyman

I’d say only in California but we all know Floriduh holds the record for stories like this. How awful. Hope she didn’t get pregnant. Sounds like old boy doesn’t last very long! lol

  • EveryVillainIsLemons

Why in the hell do so many people choose to sit in the back of the bus? When I ride a bus, I like to sit towards the front so that I’m less likely to miss my stop. I don’t get it.

ETA: Before anyone gets offended, I am NOT blaming the victim whatsoever. I just see a lot of people go to the back of the bus, even if the bus is completely empty, and I really don’t get the logic behind it.

  • EveryVillainIsLemons

Either he was small in more ways than one, or the spaces between seats on LA area buses are a lot more roomy than the ones around here.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=736546181 Michael Heldman

He stood in front of her, doesn’t say what part of her body was assaulted. The victim didn’t scream out, she might have been muffled?

  • EveryVillainIsLemons

    That’s a possibility.

  • http://www.facebook.com/valerie.stumph.1 Valerie Stumph

Does the victim possibly know him from somewhere? I hope they catch this dirty bastard and shame on the driver for not paying enough attention to the passenger trying to get his attention.

  • Valerie

Wow, signing in with facebook puts out an incorrect last name for me. That’s strange.

  • CT

I never go to the back of the bus. The bus I used to ride was a mix of folks and the rowdy ones always sat in the back. I just didn’t need the hassle.

  • Evan Oswald

omg i know that guy! that’s bushwick bill!

  • Pipsmom06

Is it possible that this guy is also mentally disabled?

  • Evan Oswald

how did he know she was ‘tarded? Are we sure this wasn’t the SHORT BUS – because the other rider AND the driver both seem ‘tarded as well.

  • JGo555

    What in the fuck!?
This is beyond disgusting. No fucking 911 call, no grabbing anything and slamming that shit on his head, no fucking shaking the driver to get his attention!? apparently Culver City doesn’t have stop signs OR traffic lights.

  • JGo555

The High School mentality that nerds & goody two shoes sit in the front & the cool kids in the back. I’d sit up front simply because the back of the bus got hot as fuck.

  • JGo555

It’s the only way that I wish this had gone down. Mitigating circumstances and less horrible.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=736546181 Michael Heldman

Oh yeah it did, wink wink.

  • daMonBrooks

I tried to ride in the middle. That way both the nerdy kids and the hardasses would leave me the fuck alone. The back of my school buses were always portals to hell.

  • Rachel Ann

I hope whoever ID’s the nasty fuck kills the bastard and dumps his ass outside the police station. I’m feeling kinda mean today.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=736546181 Michael Heldman

    I’m stumphed

  • newstarshipsmell

I never rode the bus to school, growing up. We lived on the same block or across the street from my elementary/jr. high schools, and too close to the high school to be on a bus route (two campuses, actually, both exactly half a mile away.) I feel like I’ve missed out on an integral component of childhood.

  • Evan Oswald

it sure did get hot on bus around Culver City. oooooooo wwwweeeeeeeeee

  • http://www.facebook.com/HamsterNinjaofDOOM Alecia Hendricks

But if it’s legitimate rape her body will get rid of that by itself :D

  • Valerie

My last name is Mexican lmao not German. I’ll be sure to never ever sign in with Facebook again lol

  • Andyman

Me and my friend Ryan rode the bus in the back. One day he decided he was going to moon the cars behind us. And I, of course, wrote the sign on a piece of paper that said, “Hey! Like this moon?” Well obviously the car pulled the bus over and we both got kicked off the bus for a whole week. My parents made me walk to school (I think I was in the 7th or 8th grade) that whole week. So I guess I was more on the rowdy end of the bus! LOL.

  • Andyman

Yeah you said that yesterday. We get it.

  • newstarshipsmell

Hahaha. The worst thing I ever did on the bus was shout “Vacuum!” at truck drivers.

  • Athena

    ???

  • newstarshipsmell

Lipreading it from another vehicle, it looks like a bunch of kids shouting “Fuck you!” To the bus driver, it sounds like a bunch of kids shouting “Vacuum!” – unlikely to prompt him/her to tell the kids to knock it off.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=736546181 Michael Heldman

It needs repeating. Those that have uttered it, still have yet to learn from it.

  • Andyman

Nah. It was a moronic comment made by an idiot. It isn’t at all like forgetting 9/11 or something most people would agree is worth repeating. I think there is a substantial difference.

  • Evan Oswald

RIGHT! hahah, but seriously. we should be so lucky.

  • Evan Oswald

truth. Me thinks 90% if people still don’t know the lesson 9/11 should have taught this country.

  • newstarshipsmell

    But it’s still funny.

  • Andyman

    Funny? No. Irritating? Yes.

  • newstarshipsmell

To you, perhaps. Sorry you can’t laugh with the rest of us over this one.

  • Andyman

Maybe next time. …that I hear one.

  • Athena

It’s a sentiment that has been espoused by more than one conservative leader. For as long as the GOP keeps attacking reproductive freedom… We’ll keep making fun of them.

  • Pyncky

If he got on the same stop as she did and apparently was confident enough that she wouldn’t scream or gouge his freaking eyes out to do this, I would say he was acquainted with her and knew she was disabled. By looking at him I can see why he has to rape someone. Hell, he’s so ugly his own hands would ball into a fist if he tried to jack-off, let alone get any from an able and willing partner.

  • Heather_Habilatory

You missed out on a buncha bullshit, from what I comprehend.

  • come_and_see

Bang bus… sorry had to let that immature comment out.

  • Eliza Berntsen

    Castrate him.

  • slavesher
  • Corinne

    ….it’s a wonderful world….

  • JohnQknowitall

The witness didn’t have a cell phone? The bus driver is a zombie? If I saw something like that I would have gone in to full yelling mode or poke the bus driver at least mode.

  • Corinne

oh, one more thing: do any of those people, whose comments in reaction to this awful story were mostly about where THEY like to sit on a bus and what Their opinion is, of anyone sitting in the back, realize that this issue is NOT about them or their sitting-preferences on city buses????

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=736546181 Michael Heldman

As Athena stated. There were several Republicans that echoed that sentiment. All of which have been voted out on election day. THAT’S the lesson the rest of the group needs to learn. http://andrewvachss.tumblr.com/post/35008852589/no-woman-should-be-forced-to-bear-a-child-because

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=736546181 Michael Heldman

Not to mention the fumes those buses let out. Oy Vey, don’t even get me started on the smell of the bus and the sticky floors with uncomfortable seats. Potato.

  • Evan Oswald

mmmmmmm i tend to disagree. these stories, only exist to me, so i can further prevent myself or anyone I love to be put in these situations. If this lady was sitting in the middle of the bus – surely, surely she would not have been raped. :p

  • Evan Oswald

The bus driver, Ricky George, was placed on paid administrative leave while detectives investigate his role in reporting the case, Littman said.

Bus drivers are trained to call transit dispatchers when they become aware of a possible crime, Littman said. If a crime is in progress, there is a silent alarm on board that can be tripped, he said.

  • Evan Oswald
  • Cat_Lady

I was asking myself those questions as well. If the witness was a man he could have grabbed this sick fuck and beat the shit out of him. If the witness was a woman she could have hit up side his head with her purse or just scream at the top of her lungs to get the driver’s attention. I hope the sick fuck is caught real soon and thrown into general population so the inmates can show him how it feels to be a defenseless victim.

  • newstarshipsmell

    *yawn*

  • Corinne

and, finally, to the Valeries and Michaels of this world: THANKS for SHARING your “log-in via FB” complaints with us all. you must have really been traumatized by seeing them get your names wrong! hope you’ll get over it and find some relief and, then, when you have regained your inner peace, some closure!

  • Corinne

it’s ok, go back to sleep, i know that acting like a real human being is too much for u….

  • Athena

This site boasts an active community of regulars. Key word being “community”. You will occasionally encounter the same kind of friendly and trivial banter you would expect anywhere. You can either be a part of that, or berate them from the outside looking like an asshole. Your choice.

  • newstarshipsmell

Not tired at all, just bored with your boring commentary.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=736546181 Michael Heldman

I actually had no issues with “log-in via FB”. “If you can’t keep up with the conversation we’re going to have to sit you at the kiddie’s table.”

  • Athena

Do you know how many people will physically endanger themselves on behalf of a stranger? It’s estimated to be less than 5%. It’s easy to say what you believe you would have done had you been in that situation, but you don’t know if you’re part of that 95% or not until you’ve been in a similar situation.

  • Corinne

so, what you are saying to me is, shut up, kiss a.s, and let us continue our friendly little meaning-less banter underneath the story of what happened to this young woman, who found herself on a bus with the likes of you? no problem…..you all just go back to lala-land and have a great time!

  • newstarshipsmell

It’s kind of meta-pathetic how this twit shows up out of the blue to complain about people going off-topic, never mind that her complaints themselves are equally off-topic and fail to “add” anything to the “conversation,” making her comically hypocritical. Well, not sure about “comically” since I don’t feel particularly entertained.

  • Corinne

    ur word in god’s ear!

  • newstarshipsmell

Feel free to leave and not come back. Don’t let the door hit you in the ass.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=736546181 Michael Heldman

“I ain’t afraid of no ghosts”

  • Athena

You’ve made one comment about the story and SEVERAL about other people’s comments. I’m saying, you can be off-topic and included, or you can be off topic and acting like a self-righteous twit. You’re being off-topic either way… a little piece of irony that is clearly lost on you.

As for “the likes of [me]“… I don’t know who or what you think I am, but I’m definitely not a young, rapey black man.

  • newstarshipsmell

I think you might be yelling at the door. (I hope so.)

  • lizard_spock

And Athena gets the internet prize today for using the word ‘rape’ as an adjective LOL!

  • Patr1ckBateman

Another sign of depressing times. People’s apathy. Seeing someone in trouble and really not giving much of a shit. Too many people have the attitude of “I’m OK, who cares about you.”
To be completely honest, from a strictly self preserving standpoint I can see how it would be very hard to risk your life for someone you don’t even know. Your reptilian brain would be screaming at you to just leave it alone and preserve your own safety.
But damn it aren’t we better than that? Shouldn’t we be noble enough to perhaps risk injury or death to help someone who needs it? I mean, shit, I don’t wanna die and leave my family behind, but how could you just let it go?
I realise that sounds laughably idealistic and weepy but I mean it. Underneath my pragmatic, Darwinist misanthropia I may just be a *gasp* liberal. Oh shit.

  • abbys_mom

I agree Athena…I don’t think it’s so much apathy as it is not knowing just how dangerous the man is. It sounds more like self preservation than apathy. The witness tried to get the bus driver’s attention, possibly so as not to be alone confronting the man who could have been extremely dangerous. If this had happened on the bus in front of me, the sheer daring of the man to do such a thing in public would be more than enough to make me fearful of confronting him alone, preferring rather to find someone to help, or the authorities.

  • Athena

I try to push the envelope. :P

  • Athena

Indeed. Even beyond that, people simply underestimate the effects of adrenaline. It’s called the “fight or flight” response, but that’s kind of misleading. Yes, it’s designed to assist those options, but it can just as easily overwhelm your senses and shut you down. Lots of women report “freezing” when being attacked sexually. Some of that can certainly be attributed to adrenaline, which can fog your ability to think, numb your limbs, etc. You can be the bravest lion in your heart but get sabotaged by adrenaline if you don’t have a lot of experience dealing with it.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1106642961 Alice Hennen

How does the bus driver not pull over if someone is screaming at them that a woman is being raped? The driver can lock the doors to prevent him escaping and radio for police. My respect for bus drivers just went down even more, since some don’t even stop at your stop when you’re desperately flagging them down, or drive away laughing when they see you running for the bus.

  • http://www.facebook.com/Leashaness Alicia Lynee’

I’d have done something because I practice the right to bear arms. No bus rape on my watch :p

  • http://www.dreamindemon.com Morbid

No one was screaming at him that anyone was being raped. the person who tried alerting the bus driver didn’t do so until the guy was getting off. And if this was an older female driver who was somehow alerted before the man ran out, I wouldn’t blame her for not trapping herself inside an empty bus with an alleged rapist.

  • newstarshipsmell

Do you actually ride the bus anywhere? I would assume that anyone who (legally) owns guns drives a pickup truck or something.

  • Heather_Habilatory

Did the witness KNOW this lady was handicapped? It may have just looked like sex to her.

  • Pyncky

Well, I have done it twice in my life. Once when I was only 15 and was walking past a bar near my house and some asshat was slapping a woman around. I yelled at him to stop and he just gave me the finger. The curb was broken and I picked up a sizable piece of it and threw it at him. It him in the chest and he went down, rolling around and holding his stomach. Imagine my surprise when the woman started picking up rocks and throwing them at me. I beat feet. I understand it now but it messed with my head back then. Second time, well I deny everything and demand proof.

  • Pyncky
  • EveryVillainIsLemons

In a bus full of people NO ONE said anything? I mean wtf? This whole thing of ignoring bad things happening to others is getting out of hand.

  • Freckled_Toad

Woah thats’s really close to home, I’ve taken the bus by my self through Culver City since I was 13. I feel terrible for the girl, I just can’t imagine not saying something if I saw this happening.

  • Heather4877

I always sit in the back of any room/bus/etc. that I’m in. I have a panic disorder that makes me extremely nervous, sweaty and red when I’m in an enclosed public place. It’s extremely irritating and makes no sense (I’ve been to multiple therapists and have tried Xanax as well as other antidepressants and anti-anxiety meds and they don’t seem to touch it) but for some reason I feel like I’ll be less likely to be noticed if I’m in the back. Of course, that lends to the problem of being LESS LIKELY TO BE NOTICED in the back…

  • Heather_Habilatory

    Shut. up.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1106642961 Alice Hennen

Well good on you for at least showing that asswipe that beating on a woman is not tolerated. As for the woman, she was probably suffering from battered woman syndrome. These women will stay with the abusive man, even if they fear for their lives. They will refuse to press charges when the cops show up and in your case, they will even defend their “man” if someone attacks him. I have heard of law overhauls both in the US and Australia, where the police will press charges against the perp even if the victim denies anything happened, despite evidence of violence. It’s just one step closer to putting these scum in with the lifers to be shanked.

  • http://www.facebook.com/JennyLane1031 Jennifer N Ryan Lane

THIS SICKENS ME! HOW COULD THE BUS DRIVER NOT NOTICE? I’m 6 months pregnant and my always drunk neighbor was choking his ol’ lady and she was honking the horn, I heard her screaming “HELP ME” before she was being choked and honking and ran outside and my husband ran out after me and he pulled the guy off her, which ended up in a physical fight, my hubby gave him a good whooping and I called the police, unfortunately they didn’t arrest him for domestic violence cause we didn’t witness the beating and she wouldn’t admit to the DV, but at least he got a good ass kicking and EMTs were called to stitch his face, my other neighbors just stood around watching, pathetic losers, whats crazy was during the fight he kept trying to attack me and claw me like a bitch, me being pregnant didn’t stop me from helping, to this day he won’t make eye contact and we haven’t heard any fighting upstairs, but I had to help no matter what condition I was in, if my hubby wasn’t home I would have had a bat in my hand. His name is Ted Schneider lives in sacramento CA and a drunk and only 23, real loser!!

  • Wolf_of_Mars

Both my wife & I hold Concealed Carry Permits. No, we never ride a bus, but, neither of us drive pickups. We do, however, drive Lincolns with loaded, LEM-type (no safeties), .380 & .40 cal. semi-autos in the consoles & glove boxes. Carjacking us isn’t an option for a long & healthy life, either. We live in the country, and, we object to your characterization of all legal gun-owners being rednecks(the pickup truck line, as your obvious intent).

  • newstarshipsmell

Objection noted. But did you really take that remark seriously? I thought it was obviously over-the-top sarcasm.

I was just calling her out on the fact that her statement struck me as blatantly empty posturing. Consider some of the other outcomes, besides successful apprehension of the suspect, than could result from drawing (and possibly firing) a loaded weapon on a moving, bouncing bus in traffic, filled with innocent bystanders and a perp who’s already displayed a profound lack of impulse-control.

Trust me, if you tell us a story someday about how you reduced the carjacking population of the planet by one or more, you would hear nothing but praise from my corner.

  • Male_DV_Victim

I can honestly say that the other passenger was not a US Marine.

Please let something like this happen when I am around.

  • wastintime

It’s not hard to walk up to the bus driver and say “hey, I think that chick is being raped”.

  • Reen B

OK, she obviously couldn’t scream because this weasel had his junk stuffed in her mouth…and the witness might have tried to be…well, subtle about catching the driver’s attention because maybe he thought this was just a horny couple? I don’t know. A lot of details are still missing. I hope she will be okay and I’m glad he was eventually caught.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=529168773 Toy Thompson

I was thinking the exact same thing. The reason she didn’t try harder in contacting the bus driver was that maybe she thought the two were just engaged in a sex act and not a rape.

  • Heather_Habilatory

A lot of mental handicaps, and even physical ones, aren’t obvious. People wouldn’t think I have a disability just looking at me (hence why I’m not “disabled enough” to go on disability.)

  • Sugarglider1

Dislike! Asshole! Everything about the story is disturbing. As for the rapist, I hope he fucking trips over his own feet, like right now, and breaks his neck. Worthless loser shit.

  • http://www.facebook.com/idremhd Brad Mulcahy

I respectfully disagree. He wasn’t giving her a hard time about her shoes, he was raping her. You think 5 out of every 100 Americans would step in on that one? And she was mentally disabled? No way, so disgusting, so far beyond the limits of anything a human would do, I would have beat the living be-Jesus out of he guy.

  • Clyde The Dog

I hear you loud and clear, man, but I’m gonna step out on a limb and say that coward motherfuckers like this only rape women when other men aren’t in the position to knock the shit out of his pathetic ass.
