Mother Accused Of Pouring Boiling Water On Child Because Of Crying

JACKSONVILLE, N.C. – I missed this story and to be honest, I doubt I would have posted it had I seen it when it was first being reported.

But since I suffer for you guys (some say just like Jesus), I will write another child abuse story today, a subject I like least of all. (*hears waaay too many tiny violins playing*)

A woman in North Carolina has been charged with felony child abuse inflicting serious bodily injury and mental emotional injury after she became so enraged over her 9-month-old daughter’s crying, that she poured boiling water on her.

Police say that 33-year-old Michelle Julia Woodhouse-Deboyes became angry with her daughter’s crying that she flipped the girl’s bouncy seat over with the baby still in it.

The resulting bruise to her daughter’s face did not her crying, so Woodhouse-Deboyes switched tactics. She went into the kitchen and filled a coffee mug with boiling water then poured the boiling water on top of her crying daughter. Still not getting the result she was looking for, Woodhouse-Deboyes flipped her daughter over and held her down in the hot water that had puddled on the floor.

This resulted in the child being sent to Chapel Hill Burn Center suffering from second-degree burns to over 12 percent of her body. She has been there for 10 days now and, sadly, will require skin grafting.

So while that little girl goes through that nightmare of a procedure, her mother has been released from jail on a $200,000 unsecured bond and is free to return home and enjoy the fruits of her labor.

My kid had colic, it seems liked she cried (crying is an understatement it was more blood curdling screaming) for 8 months straight only stopping when she was sucking on my tit. The sling worked until she got too heavy for me to do housework with her strapped to my back. I don’t know how the migrant workers do it. That shit was fucking hard. I remember calling my neighbor more than a few times, just so i could take a walk around the block. It will drive you absolutely insane. Babies are made that way for a reason. We aren’t supposed to be able to “handle the crying”, we are supposed to figure out whats wrong with them.

You’re trying to apply logic to an illogical action. Odds are, she was so enraged by the child’s crying, it wasn’t about getting the child to stop crying. It was about lashing out at the child.

I think those of us with children (and probably more than a few of us without) have experienced that moment when smacking the kid or snatching them up roughly to make a point has crossed our mind. It won’t stop their crying or even their behavior, necessarily, but we can get flustered and think (or even act) counter-intuitively.

This woman’s behavior is simply an exaggeration of that mechanism.

She didn’t feel remorse after tossing her daughter, or immediate regret after dousing her. She kept on her rampage and held her down in the water? My first son cried a lot. I got frustrated to the point I would be pacing at night, nursing him and thumping him on the butt (it calmed him down Lol). It never occurred to me to hurt him EVER. I would just pace and cry and cry and cry. I would be so tired I would just bawl. My husband and parents were immensely helpful, but my husband worked a LOT of hours to take care of us, so it was mostly on me. Babies cry. You deal. Stupid fucking bitch.

That’s hysterical! I used to volunteer at a nursing home when I was 12 & 13. I just hung out with them, and passed ice, and played cards. Did some feeding… I have always liked old people better than folks my own age, especially the teen years. Stupidity is an equal opportunity disorder. It doesn’t discriminate. I’ve known wonderful teen mothers who would NEVER hurt their child. As evidenced by multiple stories on this site, there are plenty of “old ass bitches” (I’m assuming this means anyone over the age of 20) who do this and worse to their children. Other than that, I’m down with everything you said.
