Rancho Cordova, CA – Alina Bukhantsov, a mother of three in her twenties, was discovered dead with two of her children, 3 and 4, in the family’s home by her husband, Denis Bukhantsov. A 6-month-old child who was also in the home at the time of the murders was unharmed.
The scene was described by police as “very violent” and gruesome. Officers leaving the home were visibly shaken and offered counseling by chaplains called to the scene, a rarity in a line of work where bloody crime scenes are not uncommon.
Denis Bukhantsov arrived home at about 3:30 PM yesterday to find his wife and children slain inside a single room. He rushed out of the house, not knowing if the murderers were still inside, and called the police from a neighbor’s phone. When deputies arrived, they found Mr. Bukhantsov “completely distraught.” Paramedics pronounced the three victims dead at the scene. Though there are no details on the manner of the murders as of this writing, police are indicating that the bodies had suffered “extreme trauma.”
Mr. Bukhantsov and the neighbor whose phone he used were questioned by police, but neither is considered a suspect.
Another neighbor seemed shocked by the events of yesterday afternoon, saying that she and the Bukhantsovs were not close friends, but that they always seemed amiable, offering casual greetings when she saw them. “I’ve never seen them angry,” she said. “We’ve seen them all the time in their church clothes.”
No motive for the crime has been officially released yet, but a comment in the first linked article indicates Alina’s sister was on the local news saying that the family, who are Eastern European, had been threatened many times.
Police have made some progress in the case, however. A white Chrysler Town & Country mini-van that was taken from the home was located at 2 AM this morning at a Rocklin Denny’s restaurant. The man investigators believe was driving the vehicle was detained and is being questioned, though he has not yet been identified.
Here is a wedding video from the Bukhantsovs’s 2008 marriage. Turn the sound down if you’re not appreciative of odious, sappy music, and don’t watch if excessive romanticism is not your thing. Personally, I couldn’t get through it because I’m a cold-hearted a-hole.Tags: Alina Bukhantsov, California, Child Murder, Denis Bukhantsov, Murder
