Benton, IL – Police have arrested the drummer for The Core of Your Nightmares, a death metal band you’ve probably never heard of until now, accusing him of producing child pornography to share on the Internet.
Martin Evanick aka Vlad Evanick (Facebook), was arrested on Oct 19 and charged with the production of child pornography after prosecutors say the 31-year-old took photographs of himself engaged in sexual acts with a minor, including close-up pictures of the minor’s genitalia.
These photos were taken between April 1, 2012 and April 21, 2012, but the federal indictment states Evanick has been creating child porn for more than two years.
Evanick is being held without bond pending trial as investigators feel he is a flight risk and a danger to the community. They also fear he might threaten, injure or intimidate a victim.
If convicted, Evanick faces between 15 and 30 years in prison, a $250,000 fine and term of supervised release between five years and life. Someone from the band commented on their Facebook page that they had absolutely no idea and are just as appalled as the rest of us.
This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a Department of Justice initiative that launched in 2006 that aims to combat the proliferation of technology-facilitated sexual exploitation crimes against children. Basically, they monitor child pornography circulating online, and use federal, state and local agencies to identify the victims and their predators.
