New York McDonald’s Back In News After Customer Slashes Gay Man With Razor

Greenwich Village, NY — Last October we reported on the McDonald’s employee caught on camera as he used a metal bar to beat the crap out of two women who had jumped the counter and tried to attack him. That same McDonald’s is back in the news today after a customer got into an argument with a gay couple, then used a razor to slash one of them in the face and neck.
The attack happened on Wednesday after 24-year-old Jamar McLeod and his transgender girlfriend, Jalisa “JoJo” Griffen, stopped in the McDonald’s so Griffen could use the bathroom. The couple were holding hands and talking about their freinds being attacked for being gay when a man waiting on a cheeseburger confronted them.
He began making anti-gay statements and threatened to beat up Griffen after she went to use the ladies restroom instead of the men’s. McLeod stood up for his girlfriend and told the man that he wasn’t laying a hand on Griffen and that he would have to fight him instead. When the man said he would take McLeod up on his offer, he just needed to get his cheeseburger first, McLeod and Griffen figured this was a good time to leave.
But the man left his food at the counter and followed the couple outside where he attacked them. After McLeod dodged a punch from the man, McLeod says he kneed the man in the groin, sending him to the ground. But when he stood back up he had produced a razor that he used to make several swipes at McLeod. The first slash got McLeod’s elbow, but the other two got his face and neck. McLeod ended up with some stitches to close up the wounds, but as of today he is reportedly ok.
Police say their hate crimes task force is investigating the incident and need help identifying the suspect. He’s described as a black male approximately 5’9 and weighs more than 300 pounds. You can see images of him in the video below.
New York City Council Speaker Christine Quinn said this particular McDonald’s, seemingly a magnet for crime, has made some progress cleaning up its act since the spring after employing a six-point safety plan that included security at night. She said that since then, 911 calls from that location are down 25 percent. But nearby business owners say that the issue is the two subway stops, one on the corner and one at the restaurant, that are the cause of all the fights and robberies reported from that location.
“So many come in and buy some things and hang around too much, bothering other customers too. They are wasting too much time inside and other people are uncomfortable going in,” said the owner of nearby nearby Friends Cafe. The owner of Bleeker Bob’s Records agrees, adding, “We have people coming in, I wouldn’t say quite frequently but now and then, that act out who are really angry people.”
Quinn stated that the best way to stop this recent attack from happening again is to make sure the suspect is apprehended quickly and “prosecuted aggressively.” She also stated she plans on having a community meeting to discuss what other measures may be taken to curb violence in that area.
McLeod, who recently finished a four year stint for robbery, says he is helping to combat this kind of crime by speaking out against it publicly, even though some of his family isn’t aware that he is gay and dating a transgender. “I love her. And it is the right thing to do.”
The only way would ever support bashing JoJo, transgender or not, would be if she wore these pants inside a restaurant.
