Washington Man Charged With Shooting His Wife And Daughter To Death

SPANAWAY, WA — A man turned himself into police after his wife and 11-year-old daughter were found shot to death in their home.

Dean Holmes, 40, has been charged with two counts of aggravated first-degree murder after he walked into a police station and admitted to killing his wife, 41-year-old Kristi Holmes, and daughter, 11-year-old Violet Holmes.

After confessing, police were dispatched to his home and could see that Dean was telling the truth when they looked through the window of the master bedroom and saw the lifeless bodies of Kristi and Violet.

Dean told police that at around 6:00 a.m. Tuesday morning, he shot Kristi as she was sleeping. He then woke up Violet and a friend of hers who had spent the night. They got into a car and Dean dropped off Violet’s friend at her house. He then drove around with Violet for a bit before pulling over and shooting her as she slept in the backseat. Then, with his dead daughter still in the backseat, he went to McDonald’s to get some food because, you know, nothing gets you hankerin’ for an Egg McMuffin like a bit of familicide.

Dean then went home and placed Violet’s body beside his wife’s and then cleaned up the house for a few hours before getting back into his car and driving around for a few hours. He eventually decided he should turn himself in to authorities.

The motive? Simply put, Dean is a coward. He was having financial problems and had been lying to his wife over just how dire things had become financially. In fact, he had even convinced Kristi they were about to move into a new home — which was a lie. Instead of being a man and owning up to what he had done and risk losing his wife when she eventually found out the truth, he killed her. As for Violet, he says he killed her because he didn’t think she would e able to live without her mother.

Oh yeah, Dean says he tried killing himself, but surprise, surprise — the man who could shoot a sleeping woman and child — was not able to pull the trigger. Pathetic.

Wow. Just… wow. All because he was afraid his wife would leave him. Of course, there is way more to it than that, but for him to confess to that being the reason is just unimaginable. And then to say he killed his daughter because she couldn’t live without her mother. You mean the mother you stole from her? Yeah. Makes total sense. He could have just offed himself. Surely you realize that, often, there is an ocean of difference between “want to” and “should”. I want to leave early today. I should work until 3:30.

In this case, I want to rip at this man’s face with a blade, but he should be offered a fair trial and spend the rest of his life behind bars.

And just thinking about his daughter falling asleep in the back of the car, having had a good day with her friend and not knowing she’d never wake up again–that hurts my heart.
