Man Arrested After Botching Tattoo Of Stillborn Baby On Woman’s Arm

UNION COUNTY, SC – A man in South Carolina has been arrested after botching an illegal tattoo for a woman who wanted a tattoo of her stillborn baby on her arm.

Leshannon McBeth has a few tattoos already, but decided she wanted to get another on her upper arm of her stillborn baby. She went to Jody Rector, a friend of her cousin, who said he was a licensed tattoo artist and would give her what she wanted for $150. After paying, McBeth says that the work he was doing did not look anything like her stillborn infant and asked that he make it look like her older son instead.

Rector agreed, but what McBeth ended up with is a tattoo that she says looks like Frankenstein’s monster. I think it looks like Betty Boop, but either way, it was a mess. Rector refused to refund McBeth her money, and she found out Rector wasn’t even licensed to tattoo in South Carolina. On top of that, the tattoo became infected and would not stop bleeding. McBeth ended up going to the doctor and was prescribed a round of antibiotics. Jody Rector? He damn near killed her!

Rector was arrested Thursday morning and charged with illegal tattooing. But he isn’t the only one who found themselves in some legal trouble over the tattoo. I’m guessing that after his arrest, Rector was released later that same night. I say this because McBeth got herself charged after she called 911 to report she was chasing after a car Rector was in, at speeds of more than 100 miles per hour. Police were able to pull over McBeth and she told them she had lost the car but gave them the car’s license plate number.

Police traced the plate to Robert Grant, a friend of Rector’s who said he had picked Rector up at a gas station and noticed a woman following him. His attempts to ditch her is what led to the high speed chase. Police determined Grant was driving on a suspended license and charged him. McBeth was charged with reckless driving.

Personally if I want something well done, I’m willing to pay top dollar.

This is why I hate my tile work in the bathroom; I went with the guy that did it for the cheapest and I’m gonna have to pay for that bathroom AGAIN in the next 5yrs instead of getting something that will last me until at least 15.

Looks like Betty Boop…The situation is horrible, considering it was her stillborn child she wanted tattooed but come on, who in their right mind lets a man off the street tattoo them? If I were getting a tattoo of my stillborn child I would be paying top dollar to someone.

NOPE I agree. What? Did she take a picture of the corpse into the parlor with her? What made her think the botched fetus tattoo could be salvaged by the same artist to look like her live child? I also wonder if the money for the tattoo might have made a better set of books or educational computer programs for the boy.

wow, I’d say you get what you pay for. My tattoo artist is $180 an hour and she’s booked months in advance. This woman sounds like a nightmare client anyway-the article says her stillborn child but then she keeps holding up a photo in a frame of a 5 or 6 year old boy who is clearly NOT a stillborn child to her arm. so what the fuck? frankly if that is the picture she provided she is lucky it didn’t look like Karl Rove.

A stillborn baby is a viable baby that is born dead. It probably looked just like any other baby. And yes, sometimes parents are allowed to take pictures of a stillborn baby, just as they would a living newborn.

I still think is it creepy – not so much that parents want a memory, but that she would put her living child as second choice for a tattoo AND only because the first tattoo of her dead child was botched.

They have free photography services for just such a thing. My friend had some done of her baby whom died within hours of birth. You can’t tell its a dead baby.

PP’s are right, a stillborn baby is usually full term, and honestly just looks like a sleeping baby in most cases. I don’t think there’s anything creepy about it at all. However, personally, I’m not fond of tattoos that are pictures of people, and find that most of them turn out looking creepy, and nothing like the actual baby or grown person, so that’s what makes the tattoo form creepy to me.

I dont blame her for wanting to memorialize her stillborn at all but maybe for the same money she paid for a face she should have just gotten the name and date with R.I.P and that would have sufficed instead she thatught she was gonna get a 350.00-600.00 tatto for 150.00 …shes crazy for that…

I don’t get it, it looks like Betty Boop. I don’t see a problem with her getting her child’s picture on her. Just because it was still born doesn’t mean that it wasn’t full term and didn’t look like a normal baby. And yes I’m sure she probably did take a picture of her baby after it was born. Wouldn’t you have done the same? It was her child. Just because he passed away at birth doesn’t mean that he was any less important to her. I can totally understand her wanting to honor the baby with a tattoo so she never forgets his little face. Sad really and now her entire arm is covered in that mess.
