Woman Who Cut Off Babys Arms Is Fired From Walmart Terrell, TX - A Texas woman who was hospitalized after cutting off her baby’s arms in 2004 has recently been fired from her job at Walmart after a news crew told her employers of her past.

Dena Schlosser made headlines in 2004 after she cut the arms off of her 10-month-old daughter. Her daughter would die soon after. Schlosser was reportedly found covered in blood and singing church hymns. Schlosser would eventually tell psychiatrists that God had told her to do it.

A jury found Schlosser not guilty by reason of insanity. She was hospitalized until 2008 when a judged ruled that she no longer required treatment. Should would return to hospitalization in 2010.

Sometime between 2010 and now, Schlosser went from being a hospitalized mental patient to being a Walmart associate. A Walmart spokewoman says Schlosser, who now uses the last name Laettner, was hired in June. Schlosser was fired Monday after news station WFAA-TV told the company about her past.

I know that you are as outraged as I. This woman paid her debt to society through extended… well… treatment in non-penal facilities of some kind. …and now, after finding a job in a place where I suspect she could truly fit in, her past comes back to haunt her. She had a stable job in this horrible economy. Many people would give an arm and a leg for a job like that these days.   …and it has been taken away.

We should also consider the circumstances of the original crime.  Perhaps she was being threatened by the infant. I have seen no analysis of the original event in this way – other than the frequent mention that the daughter was unarmed.

Hear me now! A Walmart without crazy associates is not a Walmart at all! I can’t help but to think that we are all witness to a great tragedy here.

I shouldn’t laugh but Kniption made me. It’s not my fault.

Walmart missed a trick here. They could have just moved her into the back and have her whip up an addition to the ‘baby back ribs’ line.

I hate you all. Why am I laughing?

My cousin lives in her town. I call BS on the news crew telling them about her past. Wal-Mart works with Terrell State Meantal Hospital to give jobs to their patients. The fired her because of the up cry of the town and the protesters.

Job vacancy – Terrell Walmart. Apply online – it’s faster…

Oh good grief you had to go there with the unarmed jokes. lol

  • EveryVillainIsLemons

She’s probably not going to reoffend, but still, she probably would have been better off living out the rest of her life in a mental health facility or group home.

“Many people would give an arm and a leg for a job like that these days. …and it has been taken away.” bahahaha, I see what you did there.

  • newstarshipsmell

I dunno, employment at Walmart seems like fitting punishment for a child-killer to me.

  • Andyman

“other than the frequent mention that the daughter was unarmed.” <— I saw what you did there Kniption! LMAO.

I miss the days when they would throw the criminally ill into a pit to fend for themselves. :(

…an arm and a leg eh? lol

  • http://www.facebook.com/timothymatthewmurphy brain_bomb

Ouch! “Unarmed” stung a little. I had to pick my jaw up from my desk after that…

  • ultracreep

The woman was trying to support herself, which is what we’re taught that we all should do. It’s really hard for people with criminal or mentally ill pasts to land a job in the first place, but they’re still living people and still need food, shelter, etc. It’s not like we can all toss them under a bridge to die, they have to make a living some way, so I kind of think it’s crappy that she was outed to the community and lost her job seeing as she’s probably extremely unlikely to be a problem to the public.

  • Ruebene

I think if you killed your own helpless baby by cutting off it’s little arms, crazy or not, you don’t belong in society anymore. Ever. Not even at Walmart.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Diane-Ferreira/100000721543293 Diane Ferreira

Now instead of earning her own income, she will need society to lend a hand or two to support her, because of her town being up in arms over this.

  • Cheeseburger Sanchez

I am of two minds about this. I mean what she did was beyond horrible, but I don’t think she was totally at fault. Like Andrea Yates before her, she was under the control of an asshole husband that felt he knew better than her doctors, and a snake oil salesmen type preacher, railing about fire and Brimstone to her.
They both knew that she was psychotic, but instead of helping her, they fed her stories about how she was not praying hard enough to get rid of the ‘Jezebel spirit’.
FWIW, if she has gotten treatment, and she is away from those two, I do think there is a chance she has been rehabbed. I mean, it is a job at Wal Mart, not a children’s hospital.

  • LuvsHorror

I think she should be tossed under a bridge to die. She brutally murdered an infant. How is it that she “is unlikely to be a problem to the public”? If she is crazy, that makes it even worse. She doesn’t deserve a life after what she did.

  • Vunderlak

You have to be kidding. At least I hope you are. Look, if you are so fucking batshit nuts that you let an asshole husband or a “fire and brimstone preacher” convince you that it’s cool to chop up your child, we have places for people like that. She should have never have been let out of it. God, what if she gets a message from the hershey bar wrapper while she is checking you out, and eats a baby or something.

  • http://www.facebook.com/maura.odonoghue1 Maura O’Donoghue

wow, ya poor andrea, poor everyone who makes a choice to kill their kids cause their husbands an asshole. No accountability in our society. Makes me sick how these POS plead insanity and get off…they murdered their own children they deserve nothing.

  • http://twitter.com/Bigcced Cedric

Man … my only thoughts on this is ” Fuck this child killing Bitch.” Someone should cut off this Bitches arms and let her ass bleed out – Ced likes the Old Testament.

  • Martin Huizing

Well at least she would have two good arms to defend herself… (I’m going to Hell for this)

  • tkaz

But here’s the question – how do we keep mental patients where they need to be & how do we assure they won’t use our tax dollars to survive because they can’t keep a job?
I don’t want her at WalMart…I don’t want her in the checkout lane next to me…I don’t want her anywhere. I’m pretty sure there’s lots of “former” mental patient homeless running around. Not good.

  • tkaz

Well geez. I’d like to know what other stores in this country work with mental hospitals because even though I beleive even crazy people (non-murdering ones anyway) should have equal opportunity……I don’t want to get maimed because I was wearing the wrong color or something.

  • tkaz

I totally get where you’re coming from & I agree to an extent. But what are we to do when someone was told by voices to kill an infant? I don’t beleive they’re ever cured. A trigger, stopping meds….this person is no longer trusted.
I don’t have an answer, I’m just saying that a crime as heinous as this one can’t be forgotten because a judge says so.

  • http://twitter.com/Bigcced Cedric

This story highlights why people should be cautious whenever they are out and about ’cause you never know exactly who that stranger next to you might be … and there are lots of crazy ass people like this lady out there – just wondering around waiting on whatever event sets them off on a murdering rampage.

  • http://twitter.com/Bigcced Cedric

    Absolutely agree.

Actually, this comes down to constitutionality. Civilized society has believed for centuries, now, that those who were not of right mind at the time of an offense should not be punished as severely as those who commit violence intentionally and of able mind.

You clearly have zero comprehension of mental illness.

Why are some people suggesting this woman is no longer a problem to society? She cut off her babies arms While the child was still alive might I add. What kinda sick bastard does something like that. Mental Illness or not, that is f–cked up. That woman should not be out of that mental institution. Who knows when the next time will be when she gets a command from GOD. How exactly do you rehabilitate someone like that. Okay Dena, you promise not to cut off any defenseless babies arms right? Dena replies ” Oh no, that was just a one time deal, I feel better now.” “Case solved, She’s Healed! Hallelujah. Send her over to Wal-mart to get a job.”
I know people who can’t work at Walmart because they smoked pot, so thank God that woman lost her job.

  • http://www.facebook.com/vinylink Fredrika Harrelson

AMEN Ruebene!. That crazy biatch needs to get the hell out of Wal-mart. Do you really want the woman who greets you at WAL-MART having dearmed a poor, defenseless, live baby. I think not. I say thank goodness she got fired. Who knows when GOD will call upon her again? I could be my baby she tries to take out. I don’t think so. Kick her to the curb.LOL

  • newstarshipsmell

I don’t really enjoy sticking my dick into a bible, but since you told me to…

  • http://www.facebook.com/timothymatthewmurphy brain_bomb

Look, it’s probably the most unpopular thing on the planet to empathize with a baby killer, but I co-sign @ultracreep:disqus for the fact that mental illness is a very real thing and the actions this woman carried out probably feel like another person did it after she obtained treatment. I do not feel sorry enough for her to go picket (or even do anything besides respond to this comment really), but if she has been cleared and declared able to function in society, she should be allowed the liberty to take care of herself instead of having to now collect unemployment and is now more than likely unable to afford her crazy meds. which fucks us all both ways.

  • newstarshipsmell

I think I would much rather have no one greet me at Walmart – on account of not shopping at Walmart.

  • http://www.facebook.com/timothymatthewmurphy brain_bomb

I think it should be mandatory to leave a full name and telephone number to explain why you “down’ed” a comment.

  • Wildheart

I have no idea whether she is not a danger to society because I’m not qualified to judge that kind of thing, but I think it was shitty of the news crew to out her like that. She did what she was ordered to do and was released. Granted nothing will ever make up for what she did, but if she is truly mentally ill, I don’t believe she should be in jail where she would get no help at all. I would bet my paycheck that there are people twice as crazy as her working at Walmarts all over the country right now. And you never know when someone you’ve thought of as “normal” may just snap and do something like that anyway.

  • Pyncky

I can’t make up my mind about this story. Mental illness is a terrible scary thing for everyone involved. It was horrible what was done to the child. No question there. But it was terrible for this woman when she realized what she had done. I know many people use insanity defenses, but there are people who are actually insane.

So, on one hand I feel bad for the child. It never deserved to be tortured and killed. On the other hand I feel bad for the woman. She had no motive to kill the child, other than the one she stated. ((I assume, since if there was another motive I’m sure the state would have said so))

If you are mentally ill and are on your meds and following your treatment, you should have a second chance. But, how can we be sure that there is no further danger to others around you?

So, as I said, I can’t decide what I think is right.

Hell, if there if a god, maybe he/she DID tell her to do it. Ask Abraham, god can be a real buttlick.

  • Vunderlak

I do, though, really. I put people into two catagories. Batshit nuts that chop the arms off of their own child, and needs to be put away forever, and not batshit nuts, who do not do things like that. I swear I love you Athena, but God. And if you want to go down the road of it was other people’s fault, why would you let her around other people who could influence her again?

  • Pyncky

Dick paper cuts. Even worse if it’s a bible.

Personal thought though: First test for insanity, do you believe in god and the bible?

    *ducks and runs*

  • newstarshipsmell

Gullibility, self-delusion, wishful-thinking, or child-indoctrination all tend to fall higher on my list of things indicated by belief in God than insanity does. But it sure is entertaining when the mentally insane act upon religious convictions.

  • https://twitter.com/#!/AngelsMom0806 Angels Mom

    Agree 100%

  • Pyncky

Just a question, Ced. Assuming that we never start the “eye for an eye” biblical punishment system, where would you be happy with her working? If she is left unemployed and on foodstamps and medicaid, then people will bitch about that. The law has already ruled out life in prison or death by boonga boonga, so where can she or anyone in her situation work?

Realistically, is she much more of a threat than someone with undiagnosed mental illness, who may not be on meds at all. I can just about guarantee you that you have worked with, been served by or been neighbors with someone with mental illness. Hopefully you won’t be the one around when they lose it.

Jared Lee Loughner never killed anyone, until he did that day on Colorado.

Like I said, I don’t know where I fall on this. It’s not black or white like a pedo or rapist.

  • https://twitter.com/#!/AngelsMom0806 Angels Mom

I still love you Pyncky. How are you feeling these days?

  • newstarshipsmell

Your friends/acquaintances chose to smoke pot, knowing full well that many employers drug test and deny employment based upon it (unless they’re complete idiots.) This woman didn’t choose to become mentally ill.

  • newstarshipsmell

If you really categorize the mentally ill into that black and white of a difference, then I’d have to disagree with @AthenaZ:disqus and say that your comprehension of mental illness is not zero, but rather infinitesimal instead.

  • newstarshipsmell

God is telling you to keep an eye out for that thumb drive He may have accidentally thrown in the trash last week, and please bring it back to Him if you find it, preferably without looking to see what’s on it.

  • Chinchillazilla

I fully agree. This is just sad all-around.

  • Eliza Berntsen

Well, actually, aren’t you more likely to encounter a jobless crazy at the movies/ grocery store than one who’s most time is spent at work?

  • Vunderlak

We are not talking about somebody with some mental issues. We are not talking about somebody who is afraid to leave their house for fear of aliens, or somebody who counts on their fingers as they chew, like my ex used to do. We are talking about somebody who amputates the arms of children. If that doesn’t get you into the batshit catagory, maybe you could explain what does.

  • pikeman

    Except in Yeti’s case.

  • pikeman

She chopped off her babies arms. If she would have lived, she would have been severely handicapped. This is atrocious!

FUCK THIS BITCH, IN ALL CAPS AND EXCLAMATIONS!!!!!

  • pikeman

I guess anyone covered in their own child’s blood after cutting their arms off, singing church hymns would have to be insane, right?

That raises the question, do you just let this person walk the streets, or do you lock them in a hospital or sanitorium the rest of their lives. In this case, I think this bitch should have been locked in the worst asylum that could be found, for the rest of her fucking miserable existence!

  • pikeman

I think they should have left her in that damn hospital, considering the horror of what she did.

I cannot help but feel sorrow and pity. This woman had post-partum psychosis, and instead of getting help for it, her husband and asswipe preacher attempted to convince her that if she prayed hard enough everything would be okay. When her aberrant brain chemistry overcame her rational mind, she suffered a psychotic break with reality and thought she heard the voice of God. Telling her to slice up her child.

That is the classic, legal, definition of insanity. No junk-food “Twinkie defense” bullshit, no “I saw X, lost my mind, and started killing people” bullshit, but old-school M’Naghten Rules legal insanity. Her attorney succeeded with a legal defense that is actually very seldom used, and even more rarely successful.

In Texas. With a jury. A jury that no doubt saw every gruesome autopsy and crime scene photo. And unanimously voted to acquit her because she was insane at the time of the act.

She received treatment, and like most women who had what she had, she recovered. Because post-partum psychosis is treatable and curable. And if it’s treated, nobody dies.

But she will never be whole again. Because she has to live, for the rest of her life, with the unfathomable horror of what she did. Every time she looks down at her hands, some part of her will shudder at what they did. Every time she looks at her face in the mirror, some part of her will think, “Murderer.”

She is no more a threat to other children than you or I. She is a sad, suffering human being permanently estranged from humanity by what she did during a time of literal madness.

I am as Old Testament as they get, but I feel pity in this case. Just a great sorrowing pity.

  • BlackHeywood

I just happen to find this site and I remember this story . The comments are hilarious, I agree mental illness is not curable that fast. IMO when she was found “sane” she should’ve been sent to prison for life. She is a danger to society, especially infants. I hope she doesn’t open a Day Care Center.

  • JGo555

But what if she was the “crazy” in walmart? I mean those prices… INSANE!

  • JohnQknowitall

    Was she actually convicted?

  • http://www.facebook.com/MissLynxie Shelly Matthews

Jared Lee Loughner didn’t shoot anyone in Colorado. It was Rep. Gabby Gifford in Tuscon, AZ. As for this batshit crazy nut, she has been proven to be so mentally crazy that she murdered her own baby. While I don’t think prison is the answer, I believe when someone is proven innocent by reason of insanity, they should serve whatever sentence they would have gotten in a mental asylum where they can be watched and monitored. This baby isn’t getting a 2nd chance at her life, why should the nutjob who killed her?

  • bethied

I used to work for a food manufacturing corporation who worked with local parole officers to find work for the parolees. It’s a tricky situation because I do believe that (most) people deserve second chances, and people really can be rehabilitated, yet, who wants to hire someone who is crazy or a criminal? I only knew of two guys who were parolees, and one I really respected because he was a hard worker, a good guy and was very committed to a positive lifestyle. The other one started slipping after finishing up his parole and I think he was into meth before he lost his job. He was a weirdo, but seemed relatively harmless.

It is kind of creepy to think that there are places that make an extra effort to hire such high-risk employees, but at the same time, I think that they probably make a huge positive differences in a lot of lives.

  • takurospirit

I agree, but she and many others are out. They need to house, feed, and clothe themselves. IMO, the criminal background check industry is just something in place to make sure private prisons continue to receive a steady flow of inmates (though it seems Walmart does not perform these?).

BTW, many companies employ prisoners at wages none of us, but the most desperate, would be willing to work for. So we have people kept from gainful employment, they then have to either obtain welfare of various sorts or turn to crime, they are eventually re-imprisoned, then “employed” in those jobs they couldn’t get when out at a much reduced wage. It’s bullshit.

This woman, apparently during some sort of psychotic episode, murdered her infant. I don’t think anyone can say she won’t ever have another episode. Prison isn’t the right place, but I doubt society is either. She should be confined for the remainder of her life in some sort of highly supervised mental institution. BUT shunning her and making sure she can’t support herself isn’t going to magically make that happen. It’s more likely to contribute to relapse due to stress.

  • velvetjoneslives

Do you have any clue about mental illness? If they’re truly sick, they often have no clue what they’re doing. That is the whole reason why they’re not held accountable. That said, the fact that she had to be re-institutionalized twice since her first release should be taken as a red flag.

  • Pyncky

I knew Loughner shot Gifford, I just wrote the wrong state. Had Colorado drummed into my ears so much recently it just stuck.

  • supreme321

I know that when you are behind your computer anonymously without having to take responsibility for what you post your finger tends to get loose. But even so a little of understanding is needed here. If she was mentally hill and didn’t know what she was doing she will leave with the fact that she murderer her baby girl for the rest of her life, so she does not need people like you or walmart to telling her she does not have a place in society. I’ve seen people eating the nails of their hands till reaching flesh, the pain doesn’t even make him finch. These are things one can not prevent. I hope she sues walmart and that a meteor fall on your mouth and crush it into thousand pieces. Or should I say hands…well whatever.

  • pikeman

Talk about loose fingers! Asshole! You’d be singing a different tune if someone cut off your arms, and we wouldn’t have to read your ignorant post!

  • supreme321

FuckYou piece of $hit. Ignorant bastard.

  • pikeman

Whatever dickwad! You want to come on here and bash a perfectly good post and actually go as far as to say that a meteor should fall into Ruebene’s mouth because that poster didn’t like the fact that some psycho bitch cut off her babies arms!? Well, expect some back. As far as I’m concerned, you’re the ignorant bastard, so if you want to keep this shit going, that’s fine by me!

  • RectumBOY_Heldman

    Git em Pikey !

  • supreme321

That psyco bitch as you said could be your mother. And I don’t give you enough $hit to spend my time here arguing with you, so FUCKOFF.

  • pikeman

Thanks, RectumBOY. I’d be pissed off, but I’m still laughing my ass off about that. Rectum? Damn near killed ‘em!

  • Abroad

PPD is not like a lot of mental illness. It is specifically tied in with the presence of the new baby, and without the baby it recedes fairly quickly again. I would not want her to have another baby; but I do not think she was any danger to the person queueing at her till.

  • Abroad

Actually, what impresses me the most about this entire story is that someone recognised her, at all. Someone needs to apply for a job with CIA, stat!

You miss the point, mental disease can happen to anyone. And if you’ve been hanging around long enough you should know how easily your comment can be censord . But I can’t bother explain this a 13 years old.

  • pikeman

Whatever. I might have been a little more understanding until I read the last two sentences of your original post. You’re going to defend her to the point of wishing harm to another poster because he finds it deplorable that she cut the arms off of her own child, crazy or not? Well, I find it deplorable too your stupid justification at this point holds no water with me. Who the fuck are you to give us shit about having “loose fingers” and saying a meteor should come down on someone who hates what she did because you’re going to sympathize and justify what this twat did to her own child? Fuck Off!

  • pikeman

My comment censored??? Why, did you flag it, asshole! I’ve hung out here plenty long enough to know better than that! Why don’t you go take a flying fucking leap right off this site! Comment censored, the fact that you came back and edited that in really pisses me off!!! I can say what I want to some douchebag like you, and Morbid or anyone else isn’t going to do a goddamn thing about it, so why don’t you take your pompous ass and fuck the right off!!!

  • RectumBOY_Heldman

Pikey ? I’m pregnant…. That hobo pulled out and came on my back though, what gives?

  • RectumBOY_Heldman

I’m glad you’re on my side… seems all that anger might come in handy come snake whacking time

  • pikeman

Yeah, I can handle RectumBoys and Yetis, but pompous assholes piss me off, especially when they start red flagging my comments and talking about getting them censored! What a douche!

  • RectumBOY_Heldman

    I’m flagging this

  • pikeman

Well, I’m flagging you for taking Heldman’s pic and naming yourself RectumBOY_Heldman. Well, not really, because I think it’s pretty damn funny and I can’t wait to see Heldman’s reaction.

  • RectumBOY_Heldman

Yeah well I’m telling everyone you were born with a tail.. and then I’m flagging that , and then I’m telling Heldman that you banged his brother. And then I’ll see if maybe Heldman’s innocent and it’s your soul I should be stealing . Hmmm Pikey ? Hmmm?

  • supreme321

Who flagged your comment and who edited anything? Are you high? Yeah I can totally see that. You really are a teenager aren’t you. Are you in one of those days ah? Is it your first time. Don’t worry it’s get better….NOT.

  • pikeman

Why are you saying my comment can get censored, then? I don’t care what you think of me. I checked you’re profile, anti-American pompous jerk. I’ve been on this site for a long time. You don’t know shit about me or this site. Why don’t you just go back to CNN and those other news channels where you belong? You suck.

  • pikeman

I’m not sure what you’re talking about as usual.

  • supreme321

Hahaha, I’m sorry. I didn’t know you called it first. Here kid all yours.

  • RectumBOY_Heldman

Maybe the burglarofturd321 is ordering waffles at your club… either way the cockblock has no right to any handjobs there

  • pikeman

BTW, they don’t generally censor comments on dd like they do on CNN and those other news channels. I can see that you are not for freedom by checking out your comments. Also, by your comment on the top, I can see that you are a total arrogant jerk-off to anyone that doesn’t agree with you, to the point of wishing violence upon them. This really rubs me the wrong way, considering this “mother” cut her own child’s arms off, crazy or not. Do you wish violence upon us Americans for the way you perceive us to think? Yes, I read some of your comments. Have fun over on CNN where they censor your comments, you fascist.

  • pikeman

You’re not just talking out your ass on that one, RectumBOY.

  • Guest

You really have a lot of spare time don’t you? I can see how you are 15 trillion dollar on dept. And no I don’t hate america at all. And who are you anyway Ruebene butler? Why don’t let him fend for himself(or her). Please just don’t reply anymore, you give me headache.

  • supreme321

I think it’s over. Thank God.

“she’s probably extremely unlikely to be a problem to the public. ”

The problem isn’t that she needs a job, the problem is that she is working in a store with small children that sometimes become ‘unattended’ as they get separated from their parents. Add to that her being repeatedly hospitalized for mental instability-and the fact that in her unstable state she was able to cut the arms off her own LIVING CHILD. SO while she may need a job, she is still a danger to her community-particularly to the small children she has a very good chance of running into working a retail store. I don’t feel a bit sorry for her-plenty of people with far more metal problems than her have jobs and go about their day. She shouldn’t be ANYWHERE near kids, period. There are hundreds of jobs she could have worked that DON’T INVOLVE WORKING AROUND KIDS-she got a job at walmart because its easy. They’re more worried about pot smokers than convicted murderers who cut off their own children’s arms? Good thing she is ‘not crazy’ right now, right? So much for background checks-she clearly knows she wouldn’t have been hired because she is going by a different name.

  • RectumBOY_Heldman

Git em Pikey …. Here I’ll hold him for you, you could probably use some help with the 90lb Mexican.

Where do we draw the line? Do we (as a society) believe that since the woman is now on medication that she needed before she murdered her infant, is safe to be free? From experience- She now gets a job and with that job she no longer is covered by the state insurance. Follow me now people- Now recently she is now unemployed. She no longer can pay for housing, transportation, OR MEDICINE. Since she has been declared safe, but now can no longer get access to medicine, does she AUTOMATICALLY get put back into the state insurance? NO IT TAKES MONTHS TO GET APPROVED FOR THE STATE INSURANCE. So now she can be a danger to society, AND THERE IS NOTHING SOCIETY CAN DO TO HER BECAUSE SHE WAS DETERMINED TO BE NOT GUILTY BY REASON OF INSANITY. LIKE THE THOUSANDS OF CRIMINALLY INSANE PEOPLE OUT THERE!

  • http://www.facebook.com/steve.p.davis.1 Steve Paige Davis

She lied on her application-was hired under a false or different name. you’re feeling judgmental over pot smokers but not a woman who lied about her name so no one would find out she cut off her own kids arms-killing them in the process-along with an apparently unrelated hospitalization SINCE her conviction? working in a store FULL of children? mental illness or not, she is far more a danger to society than someone who smokes pot. She didn’t chose to become mentally ill(I don’t know why people continue to use that alone as some sign everything is safe now) but she did chose to seek employment under a pseudonym working right alongside children. Hope none of the kids you know are around her NEXT time she has one of her ‘moments’.

  • newstarshipsmell

Are you fucking stoned? No where in my comment did I “judge” potsmokers, or suggest that they are more dangerous than a mental case with a violent past. I simply stated that Fredrika’s complaint that her pothead friends couldn’t get hired there while Schlosser did was moronic – I didn’t even mention that all those friends of hers have to do is refrain from smoking pot for a month, and BAM suddenly no bar to employment at Walmart for them. (Unless of course they’re complete morons and have earned themselves criminal records in relation to their habits.) And as others have pointed out, it seems more likely that Walmart hired her knowing about her past, only terminating her employment when local media “outed” her to management, probably scaring them into action to avoid negative PR. No one is suggestion that the involuntary nature of her illness means she is safe – that is a patently retarded assertion on your part – we are saying that if mental health professionals treated her and placed her on medication and deemed her fit to return to society, then trust their judgement and give her a chance to support herself instead of continuing to be a drain on society. She killed her child because she was mentally ill and those closest to her discouraged her from seeking professional help that could have prevented that tragedy, instead insisting she pray harder to God or whatever. If you can make any intelligent argument about how simply being around kids could actually induce postpartum depression in a non-recently-pregnant woman, by all means, share. But I am lucky enough to be free of the company of any kids in my life (thank god) so your last jab is even more meaningless to me than the preceding nonsense. Next time you want to reply to me, please, set the blunt down and let your head clear for a bit, then re-read whatever I said that infuriated you carefully, before responding.

  • velvetjoneslives

Again, you’re missing the point. No matter how heinous her crime was, it doesn’t really matter. The other poster can’t seem to grasp the concept that mentally ill people do things not out of evil or maliciousness, but because they’re totally f*cked in the head. I would be surprised if she even knows what she did. But as I said, I’m still not sure she should be out loose and unsupervised if she had already had multiple relapses. She may seem fine now, and probably is, but what happens a month from now if as you said, she goes off of her meds.

  • http://www.facebook.com/clayton.knudsen1 Clayton Knudsen

@velvetjoneslives:disqus I am not making a comment upon HER mental capacities, more along weather she could maintain her medication given the current insurance debacle. I know that medication that my wife and child needs, and cannot afford. She was given an antibiotic that was several thousand dollars for a single dosage. We had no insurance coverage at all. What do you do? you are already 3 payments behind on your morgage. You are down to a single vehicle. You both cannot take a single car to work. you do not live along any public transit routes.
I know that medication can change people completely. Having a mental illness is the same as cancer. One would never say to a person with cancer “Oh, just get up and smile and get over it. Life isn’t that bad.” But they say that to people with depression. “Look at what you have accomplished, you should not be so sad.”

  • http://www.facebook.com/clayton.knudsen1 Clayton Knudsen

I agree with you pikeman. Given the severity of her crime, she should be supervised, away from potential victims, the ability to monitor her psychosis and to make sure she take and stays on the meds. We cannot take the risks that I have detailed elsewhere.

  • http://www.facebook.com/clayton.knudsen1 Clayton Knudsen

GALLOWS HUMOR I THINK THEY CALL IT.

  • http://www.facebook.com/clayton.knudsen1 Clayton Knudsen

There is. Previous generations had the insane locked up in sanitariums. Because of terminal neglect, patients did not survive for decades. Because of better medications, better living conditions, more transparency within the facilities, people[read: criminally insane] are living longer, better lives than at anytime in the past. In the past we locked them up and literally forgot about them. Our “dirty” little secret. Other civilizations have done other things. Germany in the first quarter of the last century experimented on them, then executed them. Even further back people called them by other names: werewolves, witches, elven. They were called these and hunted down. They called them possessed. We need to make sure that people that have these diagnoses get the medications and the supervision they need. If they are released, then they are given the therapies and medications without cost. AND WITHOUT FAIL.

  • http://www.facebook.com/clayton.knudsen1 Clayton Knudsen

I once heard of a story that God told a man to kill his oldest son. That that son was a sacrifice that was necessary to appease God. He was to take his son up to the top of the mountain where they offered animal sacrifice, and to kill him there. anybody guess where this is headed?

“I’ve seen people eating the nails of their hands till reaching reaching flesh, the pain deosn’t even make him flinch.”
This statement right here tells me that it isn’t people you have seen but a singular person, most likely a loved one. Because of that I will try to be very kind. It is understandable that you would feel this way, but the rest of us do not feel safe or comfortable with anyone that mentally ill who has committed such a heinous crime being “free” in public.

  • LeaveMeBe

Mental health issues can happen to anyone. That doesn’t mean they should be allowed to roam around freely in society if they’ve committed a heinous crime.

  • LeaveMeBe

We used to be able to see who downed us but apparently some people asked to have it turned off because they felt uncomfortable having it known when they disagreed, especially with a well liked post. I don’t care either way, but here lately it seems certain people are being targeted and the knowing who downed you could be useful to know if it’s just a douche being a douche. Usually that’s all it is because most people on here, when they disagree, comment back with their perspective and rationale. I said most, not all.

  • LeaveMeBe

Yep. That town gives a whole new meaning to “the people of Walmart”.

  • LeaveMeBe

FFS, please tell me you were being punny. Because if not, I am way more demented than I gave myself credit for. (Sorry, I don’t “know” you well enough to assume one way or the other.)

  • http://www.facebook.com/HamsterNinjaofDOOM Alecia Hendricks

She killed an infant in a horrific fashion. If she is mentally ill to the point of doing something that heinous then I wouldn’t feel comfortable with her being around the general public. Especially considering it’s only been 8 years.

If she had something so wrong that she felt the need to do that, it could happen again. As you said, it something they may not have control over, if so then they don’t need to be around people.

  • midniteshadows

I can understand peoples revulsion to what this woman has done to her child.
That said, she has an illness, just like anyone else who has an illness. That’s the key word, “ILLNESS”.
A diabetic has an illness. Let’s say this diabetic decides to not take medication his/her medication that day, or consumes large amounts of sugar. Either way, it’s going to wreck havoc on his/her system.
That person decides to drive. Next thing you know, the person is going into a diabetic coma, crosses 2 lanes of traffic and kills a family of 4 and an elderly couple.
Do you throw that person in jail? Take away the license? Kill him/her?

It’s no different than a person with a mental illness nor should it be. As with an illness, there is a period of time to find the right medications and dosage to stabilize someone. Then maintenance and monitoring. Crisis intervention. Etc.

What Walmart did is against the law. They discriminated against a person with a disability.

And no where did I read that she lied about her last name. She used a different last name – she could have gotten married, changed back to her maiden name, had her name legally changed. She didn’t lie.

Just when I think that we as a society have come a long way in the treatment of mental illness, and the struggles to remove the stigma, I read comments that throw us back into the “stone age” where mentally ill people should be locked up, branded and hidden from society because we just don’t know what they are capable of doing.

And while we’re discriminating against the mentally ill, we should also lock up all those soldiers who have a diagnosis of PTSD – a mental illness – because we just don’t know what they are capable of doing – having killed people and all. We should also lock up the mentally retarded, the Down’s Syndrome, FAE & FAS, because, God forbid, we don’t know what they are capable of doing. All the people with a diagnosis of Dementia – a mental illness – should be locked up as well because they are violent.

Let’s not forget women with post partum depression – a mental illness – because we all know they are capable of killing or injuring their kids. Lock them up too. The schizophrenics, schizo-affective people because, hell, they’re squirrelier than all get out and we don’t know what they are capable of doing. Shit, some of them have been hospitalized several times.

Nope, we haven’t come very far in our perception of the mentally ill.

  • My_Mind_Speaks

    These comments are HILARIOUS!

  • midniteshadows

    Ditto

  • midniteshadows

    Agree

  • midniteshadows

There is no “getting over” a mental disorder. No more than getting over diabetes, or Hep C or aids, or Alzhemiers or PTSD. LIke any other illness, you maintain and control your illness. Just like a diabetic takes insulin or pills. Adjustments are made along the way. Increase in doseage, another type of medication etc. Plus, in order to get her medications, she needs to be seen by a psychiatrist and more than likely, given her history, she sees the psych doc either every month or every 3 months. Her 2 hospitalizations were probably her beginning to decompensate requiring hospitalization to stabilize her.

  • midniteshadows

    God bless you!!

  • supreme321

Ok I respect what you said I see your point too. I get that most people wouldn’t want to be around her. But rehabilitation is real and most of the times it works. And she is less likely to do same thing again, unlike those sex offenders that most of the time are released on parole.

  • supreme321

I know that but and that is most people. But this is Walmart that we are talking about. And what exactly you find fit for them? I for one believe in rehabilitation and second chance. And mental health is something that can be cured. The one people that I don’t believe there’s hope and should be locked forever are pedophiles.

  • Digited

I agree with you and everyone else. I don’t like crazy people working where I shop (so I don’t shop at Walmart) nut crazy people need money, too so that I don’t have to support them with my taxes. Apparently, I have 800 kids to feed and about 300 lazy adults that want food stamps. I find it very hard to believe that Walmart would terminate employment without good cause. If the cause was because people were picketing or something, it makes sense but those people should either not shop there or grow up. Batshit people are everywhere; it’s just the world we live in. Plus, that seems like the best place for her to work. If any voices told her to do something, there are plenty of people around to stop it. Just don’t let her work near the sporting goods.

I understand what you’re saying, this isn’t about a miscommunication, it’s about us having different opinions. I respect your right to your opinion, I didn’t down vote any of your comments and I empathized with where I thought you were coming from. Not all mental health issues can be cured, but they can be controlled, some more easily than others. I don’t think this woman should be loose in society. That’s my opinion, and for what it’s worth that’s not a knee jerk emotional reaction, I actually have education and work experience to back up my view point on this. I am not just trying to stir up shit and I was only referring to this case with what I had to say.

  • LeaveMeBe

It doesn’t. It’s referring to the comment you commented on or some such crap. Freaked me out at first too. I still don’t understand it all but that’s what it is.

  • newstarshipsmell

I hate to publicly correct you (use the alcohol excuse this time, we’ll accept it) but the Likes were anonymized long before Morbid rolled out the new Disqus format with the up/down voting – so the Downvotes have always been anonymous. And I doubt Morbid did that due to complaints – I suspect if users bitched to him about it beforehand, he’d probably just tell them to get stuffed. (He did state in one comment, after the up/down voting rolled out, that he wouldn’t restore Likes/votes to listing users because he didn’t want users to be afraid to take controversial positions and downvote popular comments, which may be what you’re recalling.) I don’t even know if it could be undone at this point, since after the first change, Disqus profiles still listed a user’s Comments and Likes in their Activity, but Disqus has since removed the Likes, so they may have made anonymizing the voting mandatory.

At any rate, I’m fine with them staying that way – I’d rather assume someone who downed me is just some idiotic lurker with nothing valuable or amusing to contribute, rather than find out it’s another user I like. I’ve caught enough negative replies recently from a handful of other commenters here that I like, or otherwise have no problem with (zman, Huizing and Prozac all come to mind) and I sort of wish they’d just downed me instead. Can’t make everyone laugh…

Crazy or not spending a couple years in the nuthouse is not paying her debt to society for the torture and murder of a baby. This thing needs to be in an institution along with the incompetents who set her free. Since it’s Texas though i’m not surprised. I imagine there is no money for incarcerating criminals due to the 65 – 75 million dollar price tag spent on building a new high school football stadium. Glad to see their priorities are in order.

  • LeaveMeBe

Nah. I don’t like that little button. BUT I was thinking of you and this post on the way to work this morning and it popped into my head that you aren’t correct either. Wayyyyyy before, we didn’t have down votes, tis true, but we did have “likes” and at one point they were enabled to show who liked a comment. Then, suddenly one day you couldn’t see who had “liked” the comments. That’s when we were told they had been disabled because there were members who wanted to remain anonymous and were afraid to “like” certain comments because they were controversial and didn’t want to be outed. If I’m wrong, and that’s not the way it went down either, I’ll eat my flip-flops.

So, we were both wrong. :*

It seems this woman suffered from post-part depression, which is real, and can make a new mom do horrible things they would never do when not suffering from PPD. What’s worse is that she was probably showing signs of odd behavior and no one did anything about it. She may have even asked for help and was ignored. This is a very serious issue that people need to be educated on, not cursing at each other over.

That being said, she committed a crime. If she received treatment and became mentally stable, then she should be punished with the rest of the mentally stable criminals – in jail. But, as someone mentioned, if she is now stable, she is aware of what she has done and hates herself more than any poster on this site ever will. in fact, i bet most of you won’t think of her past next week or month. She will live with this horrific (and uncontrollable) action every single day for the rest of her life.

And, she’s in Texas, which is a right-to-work state. Businesses don’t need a reason to fire anyone. Yee-haw!

A decade or so, I believed in understanding and rehabilitation. After seeing, hearing and reading about so much perversion whether on the local news or sites such as dreamin demon, i have come to believe there is just pure evil in this world. Call it mental illness, psychopathic behaviour, whatever psycho babble you want to use to ease your mind… It’s just depravity. No amount of psychology, rehab, meds will ever “cure” them.

  • http://www.facebook.com/steve.p.davis.1 Steve Paige Davis

put the blunt down? coming from someone who thinks pot metabolizes out of your system in one month? I’m not going to discuss something you clearly know little about-so most of the self important barking you did after doesn’t mean much to me either. She had been hospitalized again years AFTER the post partum episode which lead to her killing her child, a non related incident. I’m not against her having a job but having her around young children seems unrealistically optimistic–there are a hundred other entry level jobs which DON’T involve her being around young children.

  • newstarshipsmell

I said if they don’t smoke for a month, they’ll pass (assuming a piss test.) You’re twisting my words claiming that I stated it takes a month to metabolize out of the body. Unless Walmart are dicks and use a hair test, what I said was accurate. Got any other retarded arguments to make?

  • Ruebene

Sounds like you have a few mental health issues of your own.

  • http://www.facebook.com/steve.p.davis.1 Steve Paige Davis

“I said if they don’t smoke for a month, they’ll pass” fine-now I am quoting you-and this is not true. pot can easily be detected up to 4-6 months in urine. Hair is only more definitive. A close friend works for a state run drug testing lab in So Cal(they test for everything) and we’ve talked about this for years. Simply ceasing smoking for one month will not clear your urine. not even close.

  • Ruebene

Sounds like you have some mental health issues of your own.

  • Ruebene

Walmart has the right to hire and fire whomever they want. Having a babykiller on staff is bad for business.
