Man Accused Of Shooting His Son For Singing Kenny Chesney Karaoke Song SHINGLETOWN, Calif. - A Northern California man is facing trial for allegedly shooting his son because he didn’t like his karaoke singing.

William Oller Sr., 70, has been ordered to stand trial for the January shooting his 50-year-old son, William Oller Jr., after getting aggravated at his son’s karaoke signing of a Kenny Chesney song.

Oller Sr. was visiting his son when he became angry over the music and the two got into an argument. Oller Sr. was heard saying, “I’m going to shut you up” multiple times before going out to his vehicle and retrieving a handgun.

His son followed him outside and the two got into a struggle over the firearm, resulting in Oller Jr. being shot multiple times and Oller Sr. suffering a gunshot to the leg. According to officials, Oller Sr. told police that his son hit him first and in response, he “shot the shit out of him.”

Oller Sr. was arrested and charged with attempted murder and assault, both of which he pleaded not guilty to in February. His lawyer says his client acknowledges that he shot his son, but that it may have been an accident during the struggle, or was in self defense.

His son says he doesn’t even want to see his father charged because at the time of the shooting his father was recovering from two strokes and didn’t know what he was doing.

If he was recovering from two strokes and didn’t know wtf he was doing, why was he still in possession of a firearm? Smh

I’ve got a friend whose Alzheimer’s afflicted Dad is living with her in her home. He’s been getting a little combative lately. Makes me nervous.

The title of this story sounds like a country song itself.

…and if you play it backwards, you get your truck back, your dog and wife come home,…and the bullets fly back into the gun?

  • brain_bomb

Throw in an affair with your stepdaughter somewhere in between all of that and I think it’s a done deal.

  • AssWho?

Strokes are really odd things. It is like an ocean wave of blood wipes out a portion of the brain. Some people are fine in couple of weeks and others are invalids for the rest of their lives. It takes a lot of analysis and a year to determine the true extent of damage. The also haven’t forgotten anything. They simply don’t know the things they knew before. For instance holding a telephone to your ear makes sense to you and the stroke victim, but he will hold the phone behind his ear and have a fit that all phones are broken. This shooting is surprising because it doesn’t happen often, but it isn’t surprising when you think of the trauma before it happened.

He probably loves Kenny Chesney; that’s why he thought the bad karaoke was such a travesty.

  • Wolf_of_Mars

Mea Culpa. I stand corrected. Too bad I’m past the point of giving a rat’s ass.

Off topic, but including closure, Teressa Iovanna, my girl friend, died Wednesday. Her obit will be in the Baltimore Sun tomorrow.

Diagnosed with cirrhosis of the liver, she was admitted to Good Sam one more time to detox. Unfortunately, on Tuesday, she suffered a blood vessel break in her brain and was legally declared brain dead Wednesday at 6:10 pm.

I’m sad and at a loss and may be off the grid for a while.

    She was 37 years old.

Isn’t shotting someone for singing/liking country music the logical thing to do?

Sincere condolences for your loss. Sometimes reading posts (especially on a website like this one) it is easy to get caught up in the tragic horror stories that happen to strangers; I lose sight of the fact that those who write up these articles, and those who take the time to provide insightful (and often hysterically funny) commentary are “real” people too.

That being said, even though I don’t know very much about you, I appreciate the thoughts you have shared and all the times you have made me laugh. And I am sorry that you have lost someone dear to your heart. I hope that, in time, you can find some solace in good memories of happier times.

I am so sorry for your loss.

  • tinalib13

I’m not a fan of country music either, but the shooting may have been excessive. All kidding aside, kudos to the son for not wanting to press charges. Obviously there is something wrong, and he realizes that.

  • kwumey

IM shocked – judging only from this guys ugly mug..I was thinking kiddie raper

  • captaingrumpy

Why would a stroke stop you knowing right from wrong. It doesn’t.

  • captaingrumpy

My thoughts are with you mate.

  • Heather_Habilatory

    Yeah, actually, it can.

I am not sure if I would have shot any of my kids for singing Kenny Chesney, however, I might have brained them with a baseball bat. If it were for self defense, of course.

  • onlyme356

Can having a stroke make you aggressive, or is the son’s logic that his dad’s brain isn’t all right after having had one? I’m sure there’s legitimacy to brain trauma but how much infomraiton is out there about this kind of situation?

  • Kwumey

ahhh another good ole boy sat nite at the trailer park.. yee haw

The Sacramento area man charged with attempted murder for allegedly shooting his 50-year-old Shingletown son because he did not like his country music karaoke singing pleaded no contest today in Shasta County Superior Court to assault with a firearm.

In exchange, William Henry Oller Sr. was sentenced to time served in jail and placed on informal probation for three years, Redding defense attorney Aaron Williams said. Unlike formal probation, those placed on informal probation are not required to report to a probation officer.
    [...]

Although confident his client would have been exonerated at trial, Williams said Oller was tired of waiting in jail for his trial to start.

“This (the plea deal) got him out the (jail) door today,” he said.

He had been housed in jail since his arrest in lieu of $750,000 bail.
