DALLAS, TX – Elizabeth Escalona has pleaded guilty to gluing her 2-year-old daughter’s hands to a wall before beating her into a coma.
The 23-year-old was arrested back in 2011 after calling her mother and telling her something was wrong with her daughter, Jocelyn Cedillo. When the grandmother arrived at the home, she found the little girl unresponsive.
Jocelyn was rushed to the hospital where she remained in a coma for two days suffering from broken bones, brain swelling, swollen intestines, bruised lungs and an injured liver. Paint was also stuck to the girl’s palms, with skin torn away in places.
Police records show that the toddler’s siblings told investigators that Escalona was upset with her daughter for soiling herself and glued her hands to a wall. She also repeatedly kicked young Jocelyn in the stomach and beat her with a jug of milk, a belt and a shoe.
“In the almost six years that I’ve been in child abuse, this is one of the most horrific child abuse cases that I’ve been witness to, and I’ve seen a lot,” Sgt. Brenda Nichols, supervisor of the child abuse squad, said after Elizabeth Escalona was arrested. “This is beyond abuse. This is torture.”
It also turns out this wasn’t the first time she has abused her daughter. After her arrest, numerous people came forward to say they had witnessed Escalona abuse the child in the past.
On the day she nearly beat her daughter to death, Escalona posted a picture of her and Jocelyn on Facebook and wrote: “Why does God put obstacles in my life?” I really hope someone informed her it was because she uses her vagina as a sperm bank.
Elizabeth Escalona is now scheduled to be back in court in September for sentencing. If convicted, she faces life in prison. Outside of the courtroom Escalona told reporters she had no comment and that, “only God can judge me.”
Jocelyn and three of her siblings were removed from the home and placed in state custody.
