Boy, 8, Shoots 5 Year Old Friend Near Montana Dog Park, Leaves Him To Die BILLINGS, Montana – An 8-year-old boy has been accused of shooting his 5-year-old friend and then leaving the boy to die.

The two boys were at a High Sierra dog park with their parents and had been given permission to go to a nearby wooded area to play. A short time later two girls, ages 12 and 13, were riding their bikes in the area and found the 5-year-old lying on a dirt path. He had been shot.

Covered in blood and drifting in and out of consciousness, one of the girls stayed with the boy while the other went to get her dad. Not long after the other girl had gone, John Crawford found the boy and girl while jogging through the area and called 911.

“I just saw a boy who was covered in blood and moaning, and a girl who looked up at me bawling,” Crawford told the Billings Gazette. “I didn’t know what to think. I just tried to keep the boy calm.”

The boy was rushed to the hospital and as of Friday, was listed in stable condition after undergoing surgery. Sgt. Matt Brewer stated the boy had been shot in the abdomen an estimated 15 minutes before he was found by the two girls.

Police would find a small caliber handgun at the scene. They would also find the 8-year-old boy at his home later that night. He and one of his parents were taken to the police station to be interviewed. No word yet on the circumstances surrounding the shooting, or how the boys got their hands on a gun.

These fuckers need to be treated as adults. Life in prison. Death Penalty. Screw slap on the wrist. Somebody’s child does not have a second chance at life so why give this little fucker a second chance(which they almost ALWAYS do)!

  • sugarpie

I am confused as to why the kid was at home. If my son was playing with a 5 year old boy and came out of the woods without him, I would have been concerned about the 5 year old enough to stay and go looking for him.

  • CT

I like the fact that the parent took the kid home. I imagine that shooting your friend results in one hell of a time out.

  • JohnQknowitall

The kid needs help and the parents need prison. You want your right to bear arms? Then with this right expect to go to jail and bear your ass in prison for Bustah if you cannot be responsible enough to keep your guns secured.

  • Sam

Downvoted not even so much for the sentiment, but for the sorry attempt at trolling. Come on man, surely you can do better than THAT??

  • Sam

My eldest is 5. I would NOT be letting him play out of my sight in some wooded area with an older kid who by all accounts is prone to getting into trouble.

  • Sam

Although devil’s advocate and all, i suppose it’s possible the kids found a discarded gun in some bushes and it went off accidentally in the whole “no let ME hold it!” kerfuffle.

  • http://akemi-mokoto.me/ Akemi Mokoto

Holy shit that was quick. As soon as I said something you don’t agree with you call it trolling. That normally comes from others a few post into a conversation. You are a first. Congrats. ANYWAY, if speaking(typing) my mind is trolling then the word “troll” has truly become so whitewashed, watered down, and bastardized to the point where it is completely ineffective and unusable in an intelligent conversation and using it in a debate will instantly result in you losing all credibility bringing that debate to an end. Like now. NEXT PERSON!

*downvoted, which has become the first post I ever decided to even vote on. I’m not a fan of politically correct people.*

  • Sam

    Of course dear. *eyeroll*

Class, as your Second Grade teacher, your homework for the weekend is to prove Sir Isaac Newton’s law of “two matters containing mass cannot occupy in the same space and time” using any means available to you.

  • JGo555

Your 8yr old shoots another kid. He comes home. You do not notice ANYTHING strange about him. He is not acting weird or like he’s guilty.

    Psychopath much?

  • Castille

Aw, you get downvoted for stopping after reading the headline. No one is dead – the 5yr old is in stable condition. Whatever you want to label behavior like posting inflammatorily while failing to actually read the article is your business. But it makes you look like a flaming ass, regardless.

  • Sam

I get the feeling like his parents didn’t really pay much attention to him full-stop, never mind being able to notice any out of the ordinary behaviour.

  • Jim Powell

Yes. How did a little kid get a gun? He probably found it at home loaded and not locked away.

  • https://twitter.com/#!/AngelsMom0806 Angels Mom

That’s what I was wondering. What 8 year old can shoot someone and then just go home and chill? Either he’s a future OJ/Scott Peterson or the parents are clueless.

  • http://www.dreamindemon.com Count Rackula

It’s funny how you complain incessantly about how “America in general is so violent that even our children are killing each other!!!”, and then you turn around and call for an eight year-old to be given the death penalty over something of which we aren’t even sure of the full circumstances yet. You are a hypocrite, and you often make statements on these boards that you know will intentionally incite fury (also known as a troll, but I personally reserve that word for special kinds of assholes, and you just aren’t worth that just yet…). So I won’t call you a troll, I will call you a fucking tactless moron with absolutely no clear knowledge of (just about) anything that comes out of your worthless face… Or in this case, your worthless fingers. Gosh, computers really are just so easy to use these days!

It’s not about being “politically correct.” It’s about choosing where you stand on a point, and standing firm based on the actual facts. And it’s also about knowing exactly what the fuck you’re talking about while defending that point.

And I know you’ll respond, you always respond to me whenever I tell you what a tard you are. Just like you did with Sam. And it won’t make sense, either, because it never does. And I won’t care. :-) I do get where you are coming from in picking up your pitchfork, but you had to know posting that would turn out. I’m quite confident you did.

And please, person who is American but LEGALLY changed their name to sound exotic because they probably hate their worthless life, do NOT pretend like you know a whole lot about intelligent conversation.

And by the way, we’ve had this whole discussion that you’re trying to incite (i.e. – juvenile detention and discipline) about fifty million times. Almost literally. It comes up quite often. Perhaps you should read some of Athena’s older comments on the matter since she actually knows about this particular subject; and maybe take a few notes, that way you don’t sound like such a fucking anus-face should you ever feel the need to bring it up in the future.

The kid could still die – stable condition of not, abdomen shots are very serious.Akemi Mokoto did say “may not have a second chance at life” – he never said the kid died.

I had to go thumbs down on the comment too however because I don’t know enough about this shooter to label him “The Good Son” (I hope you guys have all seen this most excellent movie).

  • donnakelli1

hmmm. it’ll be interesting to learn if the 8 year old has a history of violence prior to this act. older boy takes younger boy into the wood, assaults him and leaves him to die…it seems to me that i have heard this before in the stories of notorious killers.

Some of the comments are down-voted and it’s hard to understand why. They’re completely neutral comments that mean nothing to anyone really, but then they get a down vote. So I think some people are just a bit overzealous with the down-vote button.

Sam, FYI you’re engaging someone who a) describes himself as an “anti-pedophile activist” despite being a huge fan of Lolicon (so much that he sticks “Loli” between his first and last name) and insists that fans of the anime/manga genre are not pedophiles, b) claims to have gained legal custody of a 14yo girl when he was 18 and had sexual relations with her, while still decrying pedophiles and insisting on their summary executions, c) claims to be an expert on Japanese culture and went so far as to change his legal name to a pseudo-Japanese one (complete with misspelled female Japanese first name for a surname, lol) and d) fancies himself a budding journalist with the high ambition of winning the Pulitzer despite having been banned from Wikipedia dozens and dozens of times, not for vandalism, but for the piss-poor grammar and quality of his “contributions.”

So don’t expect much of any intelligent replies from him.

Honestly, I was LESS annoyed by that fucking racist clown that used to come around than I am with this asshole. And that’s saying something.

  • Athena

    That’s kind of silly, actually.

  • Athena

…and had he stabbed another kid, or used a rope to attempt to strangle?
I agree that parents whose children commmit crimes with their guns should be held accountable based on their level of negligence. However, the fact that a child can gain access to a firearm is not, in and of itself, proof of negligence.

  • newstarshipsmell

You’re welcome. And thanks for posting more often lately. You’re partially responsible for getting me addicted to this place, back in my lurking days (before I figured out how to unfuck Disqus what with NoScript and Ghostery both interfering with the comments section.)

  • JohnQknowitall

    Why?

  • JohnQknowitall

Well where does the gun owner’s responsibility begin and end? If a restauranteer serves bad food provided by a supply company known to serve dubiously safe food products, what is his responsibility to supply safe product to a customer? Responsible and reasonable: yes, but to which end?

  • http://www.dreamindemon.com Count Rackula

I’ve been trying to think of a proper response to this, but I just can’t. The fact that I contributed in some way to your addiction to this site… makes me feel… I don’t know. My head would not fit through a doorway right now if I tried. I love getting compliments from all my lovelies on this site, but coming from someone I’m hardly acquainted with, that is an incredible thing to say.

Thank you, honestly, for that very lovely compliment. It made my day.

I just love all you guys. This place is my home.

  • Texas Ranger

Or notice he’s packing a gun around like he’s fuckin Baby-face Nelson or something.

  • Athena

That’s to be debated by the court. Knives kill people every day in this country. If this kid had stabbed a 5-year-old in the stomach, people would still be screaming for his parents’ heads on a platter, but not because of the weapon used. Where does a knife owner’s responsibility begin and end?

Hundreds of millions of children have grown up in this country with access to guns over the last century. 99.999% of them have never used their parent’s gun to do something like this. Personally, I think parents have the responsibility to educate their children and make firearms difficult for kids to obtain. But making it impossible for a child to obtain impedes the owner’s ability to get to the gun in the event he needs it. So, there must be balance.

I believe the boy’s parents should be financially responsible for all the injured boy’s medical bills and they should suffer some punitive monetary damages. But, unless they made zero attempt to keep the gun out of their child’s hands (i.e., they kept a loaded gun under their pillow or on a counter), then I feel criminal sentencing is inappropriate.

LMAO! I know that you were joking but there are people who don’t know that all you have to do is re-click to fix an accidental click. But it being anonymous now also allows for the cowards and haters to come out.

When we first got it people were down-voting Ced for no reason at all. Then it started with a few more people.

  • newstarshipsmell

Ugh, well, I’m wishing I’d kept my mouth shut now. Tried to edit another comment before I passed out earlier this morning, and accidentally clicked the delete button on my dashboard instead of edit. Which apparently doesn’t actually delete your post – it just anonymizes it. Without asking you an “are you sure? Y/N” prompt. And can’t be undone. And prevents you from editing it. The irony of it isn’t lost on me, but I’m failing to laugh at the situation. Fucking Disqus.

  • Castille

Except when I like myself.. I do that shit on purpose. Ha.

  • http://twitter.com/MeliMachiavelli Meli Machiavelli™

For REAL! But I am going to have to agree with Sam above… they probably didn’t pay attention to him (clueless like you said). My thing is how did the kids know each other enough that the one boy went home, and the other doesn’t… assuming he had parents at his home waiting for him, there were no phonecalls going out as to where in the fuck there kid was?

  • http://akemi-mokoto.me/ Akemi Mokoto

Well if someone kills someone(or in this case, try’s to) innocent, it is completely reasonable to call for the death penalty. Knowing US law, he will likely never even see the inside of a prison. ANY statement I make is my true opinion(unless of course you have proof that I am not actually saying how I feel) and if saying how I feel is trolling then you need to grow up and stop being so sensitive. I don’t troll. I say what I feel. On a website that is pretty much dedicated to killing everybody’s day, it’s pretty hard to understand why “extreme” opinions cause all hell to break loose.

My life is fine, after I left the United States. I changed my name(which is irrelevant to what has..) because the US SUCKS and I damn sure won’t be a citizen for long. But then ag..wait, why am I even going into this? This is obviously nothing but a rant from an angry person so why reply? There are SO MANY straw mans and red herring in your babble that I have no reason to even take it seriously.

lol my mistake. I WILL offer some advice: Stick to the topic. Don’t stray off topic with baseless bs. I see you are angry but here’s a news flash: NOBODY CARES! Knives and rope do kill people every day in this country. However, they are items made to be used for utility purposes and as tools.
A gun, however, has one purpose.

I may be splitting hairs here, but I think the difference is important.

  • Kwumey

  • Heather4877

The article said it was about 15 minutes before the girls found the boy, meaning that it was probably less than an hour until the parents were notified. So they knew where their child was. It was just a couple of hours until the shooter was confronted by police. I’m sure the 8-year-old’s parents assumed the 5-year-old had gone home when their son showed up alone and the 5-year-old’s parents were too caught up with making sure thier child was alive to make a call to the 8-year-old’s parents.

Sam’s probably right about the 8-year-old’s parents not noticing anything different about their child because they don’t pay much attention to him. Kids generally develop a lack of compassion, etc., because of growing up in a home where they’ve witnessed such behavior. However, if the kid is a psycho/sociopath that’s a different story.

  • U.N. Owen

Thank GOODNESS, for the fine work of that NRA. Give out MORE guns – to anyone who’s unemployed with kids, and on assistance, and, to anyone with an IQ lower than 90… GREAT!
