Pregnant Woman Survives Being Abducted, Set On Fire And Then Shot

Warren, MI — A 22-year-old pregnant woman and her unborn child are lucky to be alive after the expectant mother survived being abducted, set on fire and then shot.

The woman, who is 9-months pregnant, told police that the incident started after seeing a movie with her baby’s father and dropping him off at his new girlfriend’s home.

After pulling into the garage and getting out of the car, the garage door unexpectedly closed and someone grabbed her by the throat, put a gun to her head and told her to get on the ground.

According to Warren Police Commissioner Jere Green, duct tape was placed over her mouth and wrapped around her hands and feet. She was then blindfolded, placed in the back of her car and driven to an alley in Detroit.

The woman said her kidnapper had a male voice and implied that this was happening because of her pregnancy. He asked how far along she was before she felt lighter fluid being poured over her. To her horror, the next thing she heard was a match being struck before she was set on fire.

The terrified woman was able to get out of the car and extinguish the flames by rolling around on the ground. Her kidnapper then fired two shots at her, hitting her once in the back. At this point, the woman thought it would be a good idea to play dead. The ploy worked, and the suspect fled the scene.

Because this woman is a badass, she freed herself from the duct tape, got back in her car and drove to her mother’s house who took her to the hospital. She is expected to make a full recovery and is being treated for burns to her back and head. Police say the bullet wound did not do any serious damage. An ultrasound showed that her baby, due to be delivered in three weeks, is healthy and was unharmed in the attack.

Her ex-boyfriend’s prognosis isn’t looking as good after police took him into custody later that day and named him a person of interest in the case. The reason? He never called 911 after his ex-girlfriend was abducted right in front of him. He told police he didn’t see the attack as he was sleeping when it happened.

On Sunday, police took another man in custody, presumably the man who abducted her and tried to kill her. Both he and the ex-boyfriend are being held on attempted murder charges. The ex-boyfriend has a criminal record that includes armed robbery.

10 days is too long to spend with two 4 year olds and a spouse that you typically only see a total of 15 days out of a normal month due to his work travel. Other than that we had a great time.

He did but by day 7 he came awful close to being hospitalized due to a foreign object shoved up his ass then I rethought that I wouldn’t do too well in jail due to my cuteness and bad attitude and did not follow through.

Maybe I’m wrong, but I would like to think that if at any point in my life I was pregnant with a man’s child and he had a new girlfriend that was not me, I would not go to the movies with him. Nor would I take his happy ass back to her house to drop him off after the movie date and I most assuredly would not pull into her damn garage. But hey, that’s just me and I can be a little bit paranoid and cautious.

How about she did nothing wrong but go to the movies, drop him off and want to go home. Most everyone has made a bad mate decision at least once. She is taking responsibility, she’s trying to raise her child and from what I can see she is a very strong woman so the baby is off to a better start then many.

he lived at his moms house with his new GF and the other guy that shot and burnt her
it wasnt the new GFs house
New GF maybe didnt even know about the baby
b/c his own mother didnt know she existed until he was arrested
didnt know he had a girl preg,knew nothing about anything to do with her
So maybe the GF didnt know she existed either and thats why he was trying to get rid of her
I havent seen anything on anything about mom and GF being there at the time
They couldve been sleeping since it was middle of the night because she was gagged with duct tape and taped up and driven to another location where she was attacked
and by the sounds of it Jamal stayed at the house and Antonio went and did it
leading me to believe Jamal went in and went to bed to make it all seem normal to his GF
b/c Antonio wouldnt be missed by anyone at the house if he was gone

WARREN, Mich. (WXYZ) – Latonya Bowman calmly recounted in court Friday the
terrifying attack that nearly took her life and that of her unborn son.

It happened back in May and started when she pulled into the garage of Jamal
Rogers, the father of the child. Suddenly someone assaulted her.

“I felt someone grab the back of my neck and put a gun to my head,” Bowman
testified at today’s preliminary hearing.

Prosecutors say it was Antonio Mathis who attacked her, then duct taped her
hands, feet, mouth and eyes. Bowman says Rogers did nothing to stop the
crime.

Bowman testified she was then driven to an alley in Detroit.

“He doused the left side of my body with lighter fluid,” said Bowman. “I
heard the popping noise of my hair being on fire and I felt the heat.”

Bowman says she tried to roll around and put out the flames.

“I started to move to get the fire out and I heard a gunshot and I kept
moving,” Bowman said. “I told myself to play dead.”

That worked because the attacker left. Bowman says she was able to remove the
duct tape and put out the flames, and then she drove herself to her mother’s
house in Detroit and the two went to a hospital.

The preliminary hearing is held to determine if there is enough evidence to
proceed with a trial.
