Monk Charged With Murder Of Monk Inside Buddhist TempleIRVINGTON, Ala. – Police in Alabama are investigating the murder of a monk who died inside a Buddhist temple at the hands of a fellow monk.

Shortly after two monks at the Wat Buddharaksa Temple were seen arguing, a third monk would find one of them dead. Reports are that 45-year-old Chaiwat Moleechate and 32-year-old Veun Phidsamay where arguing over chores and following orders when Phidsamay beat Moleechate to death with a blunt object.

Veun Phidsamay was later arrested and charged with murder after admit to police that he murdered Moleechate. Police have obtained a search warrant for a nearby mobile home where they hope to find the weapon Phidsamay used on Moleechate.

“I’m shocked. I couldn’t believe it,” said temple President Visanou Khamphouy. “How many years people stay together and kill each other like that?”

Moleechate has been on the news before and can be seen in the following video from 2010 talking about the Wat Buddharaksa Temple congregation building a new temple after fire destroyed their old one in 2008.

First the Amish, now the monks.  Hell in a handbasket, I tell ya.

Tony Shalub is on the case.

  • rensuchan

Well when monk on monk violence starts happening, you know the world is fucked.

  • HotReadingMama

I’m thinking his karma is fucked for several incarnations.

  • JohnQknowitall

Plenty of time now for on your knees praying in prison. Veun Phidsamay will probably find that arguing over chores in prison is not such a good idea.

  • pinkparamedic

This just goes to show that every religion has its own share of hypocrites. Nobody of any faith is 100% capable of practicing what they preach all the time, except for perhaps a few charismatic cult leaders.

‘Ah, morning Jehovah, this is Buddha… yeah I’ve got a bit of a problem… no, this guy is never attaining enlightenment at the way he’s going. Plus, I heard he used a small statue of me to do the deed–you know how that makes me feel? So… you think Lucifer could uh, make some space for him?’

  • HotReadingMama

Man, I bet it is unnerving seeing a monk go apeshit.

‘Morning Buddha, I think that can definitely be arranged. Considering that I told everyone to put no other Gods before me and he still put up a small statue of you and not one of my son I’m a bit irritated. I was going to come up with a creative plague but sending him straight to the fallen one works out well for me considering my busy schedule…It’s good to hear from you. So…that diet you told me you were trying doesn’t seem to be working too well.’

  • takurospirit

I first learned Buddhist didn’t necessarily mean peaceful and kind in high school. In senior year art class me and this boy I called “Onion Head” (in my own mind, I’m not that mean) were tasked with creating a display of drawings in the hallway. He didn’t like where I decided to put one and smacked me upside the head and yelled  “No!” like I was some sort of dog.

Sometimes all the years of self-discipline come to a sudden and explosive end.

  • sugarpie

He must have been an imposter.

  • LeaveMeBe

The problem is that these monks have been exposed to too much in society and not been isolated like they were for hundreds if not thousands of years.

Y’all know the old saying: Monk He See, Monk He Do.

  • LeaveMeBe

No, the handbasket became too crowded. We are now using luxury busses with pottys, TV’s, mini-bars and A/C. I can’t remember who has our tickets though…

  • EveryVillainIsLemons

RudestBuddhist needs to weigh in on this.

As for me, I’m appalled that someone could so utterly ignore the Buddha’s teachings and murder a fellow monk. I guess this means that Islam and Christianity don’t have the monopoly on religious hypocrites that I thought they did.

  • LeaveMeBe

Listen up “O Lights of the World” – You two need to figure out what to do with this guy and handle it yourselves because I am way too busy and we have an overcrowding problem down here right now and armageddon hasn’t even hit. Due to the recession and the fact that the people want MORE government in their lives (which undercuts qualified people for prominent positions down here) I am very short staffed and I can’t do it all. Quit shoving all y’all’s unwanted riff-raff on me.

no surprise here, this is what happens when you put a Buddhist temple in the state of Alabama.  That’s just not natural, shit’s gonna happen.  Believe me, I was born there.

  • newstarshipsmell

Poor Veun Phidsamay got caught up in the heat of the moment, and fudged the Friendship sequence, accidentally executing the Fatality instead.

Dammit, I *just* finished cleaning off my monitor, too.

  • newstarshipsmell

lol, you thought it was an imaginary conversation…

  • JGo555

    I’m surprised he killed him.

Don’t they NOT kill anything, not even like spiders that can kill you?

That is one motherfucking creepy picture of the killer.

  • JGo555

Neither one of them looked like a fat panda though…

  • JGo555

Ok, raise your hand if your ass couldn’t read & proounce their names & last names.

I refuse to give up the minibar and squeeze back into the handbasket. I guess this means some of us are going to have to sit on people’s laps =0

  • Heather_Habilatory

That’s funny to me. I don’t know why.

  • Heather_Habilatory

Am I the only one who finds the fact that there is a Buddhist temple in Alabama the strangest part of this story?

  • Bill Cassinelli

After seeing one of those Shaolin monks throw a needle through glass, I sure wouldn’t want to get in a scrap with one over chores. They go all chop-socky on your ass.

  • http://truecrimereport.com iLLusionS

This somehow reminded me of the scene from Anger Management when Jack Nicholson takes Adam Sandler to meet his former bully who is now a monk…….Is that wrong of me?

  • cminus

Phidsamay’s lawyer is now arguing that Moleechate’s death was justifiable because, quote, “his kung-fu was WEAK!”

“How many years people stay together and kill each other like that?”  It is very clear to me this man knows NOTHING about being married.

And it’s even funnier to me that you thought that was funny.  You got a laugh out of me.

lmao – I would have kicked that bald headed Bastard’s ass … but then Ced has violent tendencies.

  • Chinchillazilla

Pretty sure I read once about a Buddhist temple that had to be abandoned because it became infested by ants and they couldn’t do anything about it and still follow their moral code.

  • BEastDuo

There is a Buddhist temple in Tulsa,OK too.  You’d be surprised how high Asiatic populations have become in the Midwest. Along with (surprisingly)  Russian, Eastern European, Indian and Middle eastern.

I used to do the legal portion of marriage licenses in Tulsa, and do to some laws, many go back and forth between OK and AK.  I found all of these nationalities have had a sharp rise in the last twenty years or so in the area.

Always thought that was kinda interesting.

  • pikeman

    Ced as in Cedric Denard?

    How did I know that?

  • Heather_Habilatory

Well, I’m in Bumfuck, North Dakota, and we’re still massively Caucasian. Like 97 or 98%.
