IRVINGTON, Ala. – Police in Alabama are investigating the murder of a monk who died inside a Buddhist temple at the hands of a fellow monk.
Shortly after two monks at the Wat Buddharaksa Temple were seen arguing, a third monk would find one of them dead. Reports are that 45-year-old Chaiwat Moleechate and 32-year-old Veun Phidsamay where arguing over chores and following orders when Phidsamay beat Moleechate to death with a blunt object.
Veun Phidsamay was later arrested and charged with murder after admit to police that he murdered Moleechate. Police have obtained a search warrant for a nearby mobile home where they hope to find the weapon Phidsamay used on Moleechate.
“I’m shocked. I couldn’t believe it,” said temple President Visanou Khamphouy. “How many years people stay together and kill each other like that?”
Moleechate has been on the news before and can be seen in the following video from 2010 talking about the Wat Buddharaksa Temple congregation building a new temple after fire destroyed their old one in 2008.
