Parents Shave Girl’s Head Over Bad Grades, Force Her Outside In Diaper

FRIDLEY, Minn. - I have no issues with parents being strict with their kids when it comes to their grades, mostly because public schools in the US are set up so that any booger-eater can pass.

But I don’t think I would ever employ the punishment method Stephanie Ann Broten, 38, and her live-in boyfriend, 34-year-old Darnell Alan Landrum, used on the woman’s 12-year-old daughter on Monday.

In response to her not doing homework and bringing home bad grades, the couple shaved her head and placed her in a diaper before making her run around outside in front of neighbors.

After being called by one of these neighbors, police arrived to find a crowd of 30 to 50 people watching the poor girl run up and down the street in nothing but a diaper and a tank top. The girl was crying hysterically and begging to be allowed back in the house.

When questioned, Broten told police she did not see what the problem was and was simply disciplining her child by embarrassing her. Police think the girl had been outside for at least 30 minutes before they arrived and one neighbor reported seeing the girl standing outside the back door begging her mother to let her in, only to have her mother stare back at her.

Both Broten and Landrum were arrested on a misdemeanor charge of malicious punishment. Lt. Mike Monsrud said that the entire time police interacted with the couple, and even as they were in a squad car on the way to jail, they were both laughing and thought it was ridiculous police got involved in their method of parental humiliation.

I found it interesting that Landrum’s bail was set at $6,000 with no conditions, or $2,000 with the condition that he have no contact with the child, while Broten was released and also ordered to have no contact with the child.

The 12-year-old and Broten’s three other children were placed in foster care. Not surprisingly, this isn’t the first time police have dealt with the family. They’ve responded to the couple’s home four times in the past two years, one of these calls resulted in Child Protective Services investigating allegations by neighbors of physical abuse.

Reminds me of a more extreme version of the mother that forced her daughter to wear a “I’M A THIEF” t-shirt as punishment. However, in that case the girl was a bit older and she’d been shoplifting…

Ground the kid, don’t put your 12-year old ( an age where grades hardly mean anything ) into a diaper and tank top. This sounds like a terrible way to discipline your child, but a great way to find out who the neighborhood pedos are.

If your daughter’s grades are suffering, you spend time with her and HELP her understand the concepts and get the homework done (or get a tutor if the concepts are too advanced for your feeble little brain). Being a GOOD parent means being involved in your children’s lives and schoolwork–it doesn’t mean humiliating and degrading them because they didn’t meet your standards.

For fuck’s sake…30 people. This absolutely broke my heart. How could a parent be so cruel? I mean, yeah, it’s not baby raping or beating but still a massive show of control and bullying. Let me preface this by saying, I’m not trying to garner sympathy or anything, but I have a 10 year old daughter with trichotillomania* and trichophagia**. She’s prone to bezoars** and has had 2 surgeries just this year and hospitalized one other time. Because of this impulse, I have no choice but to shave her head bald. Otherwise, it’s a health concern until she can control it better. It KILLS ME to shave her head…every single time (about every 2 weeks but it’s been about 6 weeks pull-free now….YAY!). To think of someone doing this as punishment is just, I can’t even put it into words. Fuck that cuntfaced dogmonkey whore. Not everybody has a full head of hair. Some kids (and parents) would do anything for a mother fucking ponytail that isn’t a wig.

I would have had my husband and daughter take her into our home until the police got there, then kicked her ass from here to Afghanistan. Then I would have laughed the entire time the cops were cuffing me and putting me into the cop car while they were loading her crying broken ass into an ambulance. It would be so worth it. Hell yeah! thanks. now that it’s getting long enough for her to grasp onto, I’m seeing small patches here and there. I hope I can wait until school is out on the 23rd before we have to shave again. BUT I promised her that we’d bleach then dye what little she has any color she wants before we shave it off as a reward for going so long.

Unfortunately, she has not eyelashes or brows but wears glasses so it’s not that noticeable…or maybe it is. I’m just used to her looking like this now.

It is. We’ve battled it to varying degrees since she was 3. I’d always find patches or just sparse spots but she’d never pulled it ALL out (except for one little patch in the very back that looked like a chili pepper once it was shaved) until this past December. There has been a lot of turmoil. She has 3 younger sisters, her father and I separated when I was 8 weeks with the last one (had my tubes done after the 3rd one just 7 months earlier) because he was having an affair, the divorce, and now, she has a half-brother that she’s not met yet. he’s a month old (9 months and 1 day younger than our youngest). We’ll get through this. He’s stepped out of their lives recently so maybe not having expectations for him to totally demolish weekend after weekend will help heal her little heart. It’s hard to focus and police her all the time with 3 other daughters.
