San Diego, CA – The body of Marine Lance Cpl. Cory Killgore’s missing wife, Brittany Killgore, was found near Lake Skinner in San Diego on Tuesday by a road worker clearing brush in the area. It wasn’t alive.
Brittany Killgore, 22, was last seen alive on Friday night, wearing an evening dress, reportedly leaving her apartment for a date with 45-year-old Marine Staff Sgt. Louis Perez. Cory Killgore, from whom Brittany filed for divorce just last week, was on active military duty in Afghanistan’s Helmand Province at the time of her disappearance and is not a suspect in the case.
He left Afghanistan upon receiving news that his wife was missing, but her body was found and identified prior to his arrival in the U.S.
The police are actively investigating two people in the murder, including Perez. It is not known whether or not Perez was directly involved but, prior to the discovery of the body, he was accused of having stolen an AR-15 assault rifle from Camp Pendleton, where he is stationed. Detectives noted that Perez was uncooperative during the questioning, and they seem to believe he knows more about the case than he is sharing with them.
Perez faced arraignment on the weapons charge yesterday afternoon. He pleaded not guilty and the judge set his bail at $500,000 despite his lawyer’s request for a lower bond, based on the fact that he has lived in the area for over ten years and has a wife there. The judge denied the request since Perez knows he is a suspect in an on-going murder investigation. He is being held at Las Colinas Detention Facility.
The second person being held in the murder is Jessica Lynn Lopez, 27. She has been formally charged with first-degree murder and will face arraignment today. It’s being reported that Killgore’s body was located based upon information stemming from Lopez’s arrest.
The exact relationship between Lopez and Ms. Killgore is not currently certain, but records would indicate that, at some point, they both lived at 317 East Fallbrook Street, though no one seems sure if they lived there concurrently.
On Wednesday, a source inside the sheriff’s department told NBC 7 San Diego that that home may have been a meeting place for sexually deviant behavior. Neighbors of the residence reported to have seen 30 or 40 detectives combing the house for evidence on Monday night.
Authorities first came in contact with Lopez on Tuesday after receiving a call for medical assistance from a Ramada Motel near the San Diego airport. Paramedics transported Lopez to UCSD Medical Center where she was treated for self-inflicted lacerations believed to be the result of a suicide attempt. Upon release, she was arrested and booked into the Las Colinas Detention Facility in Santee, where she is on suicide watch.
More information on the condition of Brittany Killgore’s body and a possible manner of death is expected within the next day or so.Tags: Brittany Killgore, California, Jessica Lynn Lopez, Louis Perez, Murder, stolen weapon
