San Diego, CA – The body of Marine Lance Cpl. Cory Killgore’s missing wife, Brittany Killgore, was found near Lake Skinner in San Diego on Tuesday by a road worker clearing brush in the area.  It wasn’t alive.

Brittany Killgore, 22, was last seen alive on Friday night, wearing an evening dress, reportedly leaving her apartment for a date with 45-year-old Marine Staff Sgt. Louis Perez.  Cory Killgore, from whom Brittany filed for divorce just last week, was on active military duty in Afghanistan’s Helmand Province at the time of her disappearance and is not a suspect in the case.

He left Afghanistan upon receiving news that his wife was missing, but her body was found and identified prior to his arrival in the U.S.

The police are actively investigating two people in the murder, including Perez.  It is not known whether or not Perez was directly involved but, prior to the discovery of the body, he was accused of having stolen an AR-15 assault rifle from Camp Pendleton, where he is stationed.  Detectives noted that Perez was uncooperative during the questioning, and they seem to believe he knows more about the case than he is sharing with them.

Perez faced arraignment on the weapons charge yesterday afternoon.  He pleaded not guilty and the judge set his bail at $500,000 despite his lawyer’s request for a lower bond, based on the fact that he has lived in the area for over ten years and has a wife there.  The judge denied the request since Perez knows he is a suspect in an on-going murder investigation.  He is being held at Las Colinas Detention Facility.

The second person being held in the murder is Jessica Lynn Lopez, 27.  She has been formally charged with first-degree murder and will face arraignment today.  It’s being reported that Killgore’s body was located based upon information stemming from Lopez’s arrest.

The exact relationship between Lopez and Ms. Killgore is not currently certain, but records would indicate that, at some point, they both lived at 317 East Fallbrook Street, though no one seems sure if they lived there concurrently.

On Wednesday, a source inside the sheriff’s department told NBC 7 San Diego that that home may have been a meeting place for sexually deviant behavior.  Neighbors of the residence reported to have seen 30 or 40 detectives combing the house for evidence on Monday night.

Authorities first came in contact with Lopez on Tuesday after receiving a call for medical assistance from a Ramada Motel near the San Diego airport.  Paramedics transported Lopez to UCSD Medical Center where she was treated for self-inflicted lacerations believed to be the result of a suicide attempt.  Upon release, she was arrested and booked into the Las Colinas Detention Facility in Santee, where she is on suicide watch.

More information on the condition of Brittany Killgore’s body and a possible manner of death is expected within the next day or so.

Oh what a tangled web we weave.

  • rensuchan

Prettiest face I’ve seen on this site in a while… too bad she’s dead.

  • JohnQknowitall

Nobody deserves to be murdered, but in life I would not have wasted my time associating with a person this nasty and selfish.

  • I don’t understand why people get married so fucking young.

  • So sad. What an absolute nightmare for her family, and yes, even the husband she was planning on divorcing. I can only imagine how he feels about all of this. Military life is NOT for everyone, I meet people daily who are bad long separations and being on their own-it sounds like this may have been the part that was harder for her. I am glad they caught the people responsible and am interested in what exactly went on here. Now lets hope they find the soldier from Bragg who is missing healthy and happy-but my doubts are great for her as well.

  • This article was just posted: http://abcnews.go.com/US/brittany-killgore-suspect-arraigned-murder-charge/story?id=16173896#.T5Bx-r_7VG0

Seems as though a suicide note left by Lopez triggered her arrest.  I’m still interested to know if that assault rifle was used to kill her.

  • HotReadingMama

I am still laughing at “It wasn’t alive.’ Har! I like PetePuma.

  • Arthur Ball

She may have had a pretty face but, it sounds like she was rotten ugly on the inside.

  • Arthur Ball

He’s probably jumping for joy after realizing the skank was cheating on him and was going to divorce him anyways.

  •  IF he knew about impending divorce. I have known multiple guys that came home to a house full of nothing and no sign of their wives or stuff, with papers left for them. :/ I hope he knew.

  • tdavid6

I’m going to have to remember that if I ever decide to spill my guts about all of the bodies buried under my house in a suicide note, to be sure I succeed in commiting suicide.

  • DangerousKindOfSnark

Societal pressure. People seem to think the point of a relationship is to get married rather than just enjoying the other person.

  • DangerousKindOfSnark

Hell she was a 22-year-old girl. She got married too young and realized it too late. Sure she shouldn’t have cheated, but what was she supposed to do? Send her husband divorce papers while he was in combat? I’m not going to condemn her right off the bat, it’s a situation I wouldn’t want to be in. She made a stupid decision, but that doesn’t make her a bad person.

  • Califboy

My friend came home to a note and a ice cube tray, everything gone but the dirt and dust!

  • Califboy

Not sure how old you are, but at 22 you really don’t know shit.

  • reapre

    Thank you, DKoS.

A lot of women view a non-marriaged relationship as a dead end, and worthless.  They refuse to believe that someone can “love them” w/o marriage.

You don’t need a financially binding contract to another person, to say “I love you”.

  • I think military couples may feel a deeper need to get married, especially ones where one of them is in combat.  The benefits for military widows beats the shit out of those for the girlfriends.

  • JohnQknowitall

Don’t you go to the movies? Don’t you believe in happily ever after? Don’t you even believe in lust love Pete? Don’t you?

  • JohnQknowitall

You are so insightful… I guess when he didn’t die, she felt she was wasting time. So she found another husband: somebody else’s.

  • Chinchillazilla

  • JohnQknowitall

You are right. Someone just has to imply sex for me to say, “I love you.”

  • newstarshipsmell ™

Married servicemembers also receive substantial additional pay for being married, which singles with unmarried dependents don’t.

  • reapre

Lol, I used that when I was like 15, “Let’s fuck, I love you”.  That shit worked wonders, gets you whatever you want…Sigh* being young, dumb, and full of cum gets you in a lot of trouble…

  • VeronicaMarie

I tend to agree with you, but just to clarify, it sounds like she did both: she cheated, AND she sent her husband divorce papers while he was in combat.

  • PinkiG

    You say, “deviant”…
    I say, “Thursday”…

  • reapre

God, that shit sucks.  Yeah, I know those guys too.

Sometimes, you just don’t know.  The wives of the deployed…have you ever been to the bars around Oceanside, and in San Diego in the first 2 weeks after deployment?  Bunch of military wives w/o their rings on, goin home with someone new.  I picked up a woman in socal while I was active…just didn’t know she was married, until I saw her on base with a rock on her finger a couple weeks later.

  • Athena

Not to defend them, but I think a lot of military wives honestly thought they could handle the job before applying, so to speak.  Me?  I knew better.  I wasn’t about to mate with someone who was going to be gone for god-knows how many months a year, for how many years.  So when my husband (when he was a boyfriend) told me he was considering joining, I told him flat out that, while I wanted him to pursue his interests, I would leave him. I admire those women who can hang around, I just don’t think I’m one of them, and I wasn’t about to take the risk.

  • JGo555

Because there are idiots out there that have been raised believing that premarital sex is this huge sin & that they must get married in order to have sex. This is WHY they get married. To fuck.

IMO, it’s worse to KILL or rob someone OR MOLEST a CHILD than to have sex before you get married.

But that’s just me, plain old premarital sexer that had sex at 24yr old with the guy who she is now married to.

Try that dick on for size, if he’s worth it AND has shown that he deserves it.

  • You shouldn’t let that stop you.

  • reapre

Enlisted age max w/o a waiver when I joined (10 years ago) was 28.  Idk if they’ve changed it, but 45 is getting to be ancient in the MC, especially as a SSgt.  I can see a MGySgt, or SgtMaj at 45…but a 45 y/o SSgt, seems off..(even being a reservist transferring over to active duty).

  • So I kind of feel extra sad for the husband here. Here she was about to divorce him, out running around with another married man, and she’s dead. And he is coming home from Afghanistan….it sucks. It surely sucks that she died over it. Wonder what this other chick has to do with this tangled web?

  • HeatherA80

The men that are deployed can be just as bad……My ex-husband cheated on me the whole time he was deployed.  I even found out that he had multiple online dating profiles while he was deployed looking “for someone special to start a family with” (even though he had a wife and a new baby at home missing him and waiting/praying for his safe return).  I never once cheated on him (even after I found out) and couldn’t bring myself to file divorce papers while he was over-seas.  I just felt like it was wrong to file while he was away at war…….and I couldn’t sleep with someone else even though I knew our marriage was over.   Looking back, I shouldn’t have cared about his feelings or what felt “right or wrong”, I should have just looked out for myself, my child, and my best interests and filed anyways.

I’m not saying every deployed soldier cheats…..but not every wife left at home cheats either.

I agree with athena, and also want to point out it’s not just the wives…the amount of cheating that goes on by the spouse who is in the military is phenomenal. We don’t know the whole story, and we don’t know if both were cheating. I have many female friends who are military wives, and just about all of them have dealt with the heartbreak of finding out their spouse is cheating on them while overseas.

  •  While I know my fair share of dirty wives, there are of course, always dirty husbands too. But that goes for the civilian sector as well. I actually stood behind some gentlemen in the PX one day who were discussing “what happens on TDY, stays on TDY”-I just smiled really big when they turned around. They then looked kind of taken back and afraid. I hope it at least made them worry a little bit, Military can be a very small world. If you don’t love your spouse anymore or whatever, get a divorce. To the lady above who waited until he came home, you know you are right you probably should not have cared, but what you did was classy and right by yourself more than him! Divorce is devastating enough without adding more to it.

I am married and my husband and I dated for 9 years before we got married.  I wasn’t the one who wanted a big wedding (what a fucking waste of money) and wasn’t that worried about the whole marriage thing in general.  His family pressured him beyond belief.

If something ever happens to my spouse – I already know I’ll never marry again.  There is a big difference between being alone and lonely and I’ve never been lonely.

  • CT

The guy won’t leave the area because he has a wife in the area?  Oh brother.  He was going on a date with a another woman!  Doesn’t sound to me that he has a stellar relationship with this woman and if he did – doubtful he does NOW.

The article said that the home was meeting place for deviant sexual behavior and all I could think – wonder if someone can define that for me?  Perhaps I’ve been on this site way too much.

  • DangerousKindOfSnark

Thanks for the heads up. Still, I think she was stuck in a pretty shitty situation.

  • DangerousKindOfSnark

Not sure about this house, but there are private homes in my area that serve as sex clubs. One is called OZ and you can google it if you are curious. Generally, they are clubs you pay a membership fee to. They have toys, rooms, and other things. Most provide food, but they are usually BYOB to get around some law loopholes.

  • This is why I wasn’t dumb enough to get married when I was in the Marines.  Murder is a rare occurrence, but wives cheating on their husbands while they are deployed is apparently the thing to do for a lot of young bored whores.  One of my dumbass friends met some chick and married her after 4 months and deployed to Iraq a month or so after that.  She had 3 kids from 2 other marriages and he was stupid enough to give her power of attorney for some reason.

After being in Iraq for 4 months he showed up back at Camp Pendleton suddenly and we HAD to know why since he wasn;t injured or anything.  Turns out his wife was having meth parties on base housing and letting 4 or 5 guys stay there and sell drugs.  She drained his bank accounts and snorted pretty much everything he earned serving our country overseas.  He is pretty much a dumbass, but he is far from the only dumbass that has happened to.

  • They want to have the military give them a free house rent free and health benefits.  Not to mention a spouse that is going to be gone for 9 months at a time every other year.

  • “The exact relationship between Lopez and Ms. Killgore is not currently certain, but records would indicate that, at some point, they both lived at 317 East Fallbrook Street,”
Just FYI, it’s Lopez and Perez that are connected to the same house not the victim and Lopez.

  • Selfish maybe, but what makes her a nasty person? When she got married at 20 years old, I’m sure she had high hopes for her future life. In reality, she was thousands of miles away from her friends and family and married to a man that was away from home for long periods of time. She was young, alone and without a support system. As difficult as it would be for her husband, I think filing for divorce was the right thing to do. She was being honest. She could have stayed married and just cheated. What did it matter? Her husband was halfway around the world. If anything, it would have been to her benefit to stay married. She had a free house to live in and the freedom to do whatever she wanted. So instead of being a shitty wife, she chose to free herself from an unhappy marriage. That doesn’t make her a nasty person.

  • I know a few servicemen and women that had sham weddings specifically for that purpose. When there’s a loophole there’s a way.

  • LOL I can’t speak for them all, but I’ll bet that a good majority of those prudes and the religious zealots who raised them would agree that murder and child molestation trumps premarital sex on the list of sins.

  • Apparently she didn’t, which explains why she filed for divorce.

  • She did marry him in the first place and was a hooker though.

  • I agree! All of these comments are based on assumptions. We don’t know if they had discussed divorce before he was deployed or perhaps over the phone while he was there. Maybe they had an open marriage or perhaps some kind of an agreement that they could each be with other people while he was away. It’s way too soon to be making judgments, especially when it leads to negative comments about a murder victim.

  • JohnQknowitall

Well let’s see… She could have caught a flight home if San Diego was not her home and was only a place where her needs were paid for by her husband’s labors -and- she did actually make friends with the guy she had a date with the night she died (i.e., the man who was somebody else’s husband, the man who had possibly stolen a military weapon from his base,  the man who is the main suspect in her murder) -and- she served her husband with divorce papers while he was in combat making sure she had the money she used to buy the dress she wore to go out with married man who may have killed her.

Using someone for her well being, using someone else’s husband, and causing emotional pain to someone already under an unimaginable amount of stress before even getting the divorce papers? I stand by nasty.

  • CT

    I’m in.  Oh wait.  Nevermind.

  •  Yes, I read that in a subsequent article…I was juggling so many sources at the time that I got that wrong.  I swear that the source article was wrong too, but that’s water under the bridge now as far as I’m concerned.  I’m such an amateur.

  • JGo555

Nope, to them it’s worse to have sex &/or be gay than to molest a kid.

Woman held on $3 million bond, charged with murdering Marine’s wife

A 25-year-old woman has been charged with first-degree murder in the California death of a deployed Marine’s wife, San Diego County authorities said Friday. Jessica Lynn Lopez, 25, was being held Friday after she pleaded not guilty at her arraignment a day earlier and her bail was set at $3 million, said Steve Walker, a spokesman for the San Diego County district attorney. The investigation into the murder of Brittany Killgore, 22, is ongoing and additional charges could be filed, Walker told CNN Friday. Marine Staff Sgt. Luis Ray Perez, 45, who was on a date with Killgore when she was last seen alive a week ago, was charged earlier this week with two felonies unrelated to Killgore’s death — receiving stolen property and possession of an assault weapon — and he has pleaded not guilty, authorities said. If convicted, Lopez would face 25 years to life in prison; Perez would face up to three years if convicted, Walker said. The San Diego County Sheriff’s Department said this week that Perez was being “actively investigated” in connection with Killgore’s death. “We believe he knows more than what he initially told us,” said Sheriff’s Capt. Duncan Fraser. “We do not believe he is being cooperative with us.” Killgore, 22, was seen last Friday night when she left her apartment wearing an evening dress, heading out on the date with Perez, who is based at Camp Pendleton in San Diego County, investigators said. Perez was questioned after a friend filed a missing person report for Killgore and he was later arrested on charges of possession of a stolen assault rifle, authorities said. Investigators later found Killgore’s body in a rural part of neighboring Riverside County. Authorities have not said how she died. Lopez’s relationship to Killgore has been unclear. CNN affiliate KGTV in San Diego reported that authorities found Killgore’s body based on leads stemming from Lopez’s arrest. […] San Diego County District Attorney Bonnie M. Dumanis issued a statement saying: “This is an ongoing investigation and, as the county’s top prosecutor, my responsibility is to protect the integrity of the case, ensure a thorough investigation, and ultimately hold those responsible in a court of law.

Man arrested on suspicion of killing Marine’s wife

CNN) — A man who was with a deployed Marine’s wife the last time she was seen alive was arrested on suspicion of murder Tuesday, authorities said. Homicide detectives arrested Marine Staff Sgt. Luis Ray Perez, 45, the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department said. “This matter has been submitted to the District Attorney’s Office for review,” the statement said. Perez was scheduled to be arraigned on a homicide charge Thursday afternoon, CNN affiliate KGTV reported. The sheriff’s department said last week that Perez was being “actively investigated” in connection with the death of 22-year-old Brittany Killgore. “We believe he knows more than what he initially told us,” Sheriff’s Capt. Duncan Fraser said at the time. “We do not believe he is being cooperative with us.” Perez was charged last week with two felonies unrelated to Killgore’s death — receiving stolen property and possession of an assault weapon — and he has pleaded not guilty, authorities said. Los Angeles (CNN) — A third person was charged with murder Tuesday in the California death of a deployed Marine’s wife, the San Diego County prosecutor’s office said.
Dorothy Grace Marie Maraglino, 36, pleaded not guilty in court Tuesday, said Steve Walker, a spokesman for the district attorney’s office.
Brittany Killgore, 22, the wife of Lance Cpl. Cory Killgore, was last seen alive April 13, and authorities found her body on April 17 in a rural part of Riverside County.
A San Diego County judge set Maraglino’s bail at $3 million on Tuesday and scheduled a May 22 hearing on readiness and a preliminary hearing for May 30, Walker said.
If convicted, Maraglino faces 25 years to life in prison, Walker said.
Also charged with murder in Killgore’s death is Marine Staff Sgt. Luis Ray Perez, 45, with whom Killgore was last seen alive, when she left her apartment wearing an evening dress on a date with Perez, who is based at Camp Pendleton in San Diego County, police said.
The remaining defendant is Jessica Lynn Lopez, 25, also charged with murder. She was found at a Ramada motel near the San Diego airport last month after paramedics responded to a call for medical help. Lopez was briefly hospitalized with lacerations, and her relationship to Killgore hasn’t been made clear by authorities.Third person charged with murder in death of Marine’s wife

  • It’s no mystery from other evidence: she was getting divorced, had an affair with with Perez, and Lopez killed her and had Perez and the third person help her dispose of the body. Simple and wack wasteful crime of passion.
