Really? Pictures on a school issued laptop is pretty tame if you ask me. I remember walking in on people getting head in the bathroom when I was in high school.

As for a school computer… do they really think the kids are only going to use it for school related purposes? Give me a break. Kids did dumb things 10,000 years ago and they will do them everyday  for the next 10,000 years. Dunno where you were living in the ’80s, but we were doing this all the time. Except it wasn’t a a cell phone or a computer — it was a Polaroid camera.

I know right? How is this at all shocking? It’s not like it can’t happen to their own kids. It’s those parents who will defend their kids once they’ve convicted of murder or some other henious crime. It’s just not plausible in their minds.

I was at my kid’s school the other day and one of the students was in class talking about chat roulette to another student. We are talking about 12 and 13 year olds. He probably thought I didn’t know what he was talking about, or maybe he just didn’t care.

Look on the bright side, at least she was alone in the recordings. I’d be a lot more worried as a parent if there were a partner(s).

I think they consider everyone under 18 “underage” anymore, so the 16 year old would also be “underage” but it depends on the state. Another point to consider – had the stuff not been discovered till years later after the girl was legally grown then it would have been possible to prosecute her as a pedophile,even for possessing images of her own underage naked body. And don’t let the fact that it was a school laptop mislead you – some schools do in fact allow the student to purchase the laptops from the district and keep them.

 Actually they don’t sell the film anymore – it made news big time a few years ago when the stop date was announced – people were buying up all that they could get their hands on – hoarding it.

Possibly,but lots of schools issue out these laptops and the kids can in fact take them home – the laptops are treated similar to school books as to responsibility.The schools laptop policy is most likely the same as for most companies which issue out things of this nature and that is that the school does routine maintenance on them and filters/monitors each one.

Here is the thing, mostly I agree with you except for the “who cares what a 16 yaer old is doing” Well, HOPEFULLY her parents do…I know I know, that’s a rare thing to find anymore. But at the very very least, they should be able to protect her from herself by risking her privacy, cherry, and very life online. I guess I wasn’t clear on my distinction.  When live video images are viewed over the web a series of rapidly changing streaming sequence of numbers is sent. The image is not static nor is it permanent and does not remain in any form that might be traded or collected. At the end of the presentation, it does not exist… as compared with movies, pictures, etc.

How do you prove someone watched the live images unless they were recorded which is possible? How do you prove that the “star” of the video is a child since people from almost every country broadcast images everyday?

Maybe there is a way to show that this crime exists, but is there a way to prove who is guilty?

You make perfect sense to me. My answer is this :

“The image is not permanent and does not remain in any form that might be traded or collected.”
This is not always the case – while your PC,and the other person’s PC may be protected and secure from spies there are several ways to jack the images while they are in net space,so while you may not have a permanent form of it,that does not mean that someone else does not.

And what if the person responsible for sending the live stream,or who is receiving it,or who has jacked it is in fact law enforcement ? Can you say “Ass Fried ?”

I addressed the issue of someone taking the image and preserving it for later viewing, but I alluded to this as being an exception. I was on the site for about 5 minutes and saw many penises without identification, the faces of some teenage boys, and spam. It seemed unexciting, but what do I know?

How do you know which video was sent or viewed. Most images sit an internet sandbox with very little fingerprint if any.

Anyway, I am sure that someone is developing a control for tracking such things. I would really like to know of cases where this happened.
